Pokemon Card of the Day #3237: Mew (Expedition)

Mew wasn't going to be hitting anything very hard or taking too many hits. It could, however, hit the opponent's Bench. This was a limited take on the concept, but Bench hits weren't that common back then. That could give at least a bit of a role, in theory, for Mew in Psychic decks. Enough to think about, anyway.

50 HP wasn't the best, as that was a very common damage number at the time. A Weakness to Psychic did make life a little easier on the likes of Espeon, though in most cases you wouldn't see the biggest difference. At least the Retreat Cost was just 1 if you had the chance to switch Mew out.

Super Psywave required a Psychic and a Colorless Energy. It had you choose 1 of the opponent's Pokemon, count the number of Energy cards attached to said Pokemon, and then put that many damage counters on. This could get some damage on attackers while they powered up, usually against decks without good acceleration. You could even use this in a pinch to get damage in on something like a Scizor that had stacked Metal Energy, though Mew wasn't exactly taking a return hit well.

Mew did something interesting for Psychic decks, though it was on a frail package that relied on hitting something with a lot of Energy attached. Its best job was probably being able to hit through Metal Energy since weakened Benched Pokemon tended to have little Energy on them in many cases. The idea was nice, but in reality you'd rarely include this in a deck.

I finally have every fully evolved bug pokemon available in Fire Red and Leaf Green. I tried Koga and I don't think he'll be hard, but I was under-leveled and just need to grind some more. Butterfree and venomoth both know psywave so with a few more levels I'm looking forward to them mopping up his stupid ass muk before it has a chance to use minimize a million times.

Oh so when YOU decide you want to only raise one specific type of pokemon (and let's be real bird pokemon are almost exclusively flying types in Kanto, so he's a mono-type trainer unless he decides to get a psyduck) it's 'your one true love' and no one bats an eye or tells you that your type specialization is 'nearly useless', but when I, a humble bug catcher,

Mewtwo can also use Confuse Ray, Mist, Light Screen, Will-O-Wisp, Iron Tail, Thunder, Flamethrower and Psywave.

She was no stranger to creative expression. However, showing those skills off was another story. In the midst of the crowd's cheers and distractions Lynn slipped out, making her way toward one of the members of the orchestra that was playing that night. It wouldn’t be long after a leaned-in whisper would be revealing her intentions.

A shiny luvdisc floated its way toward the center stage. With enough control a water pulse was emitted, creating a shimmering veil that would act as a backdrop. The music began to play. An upbeat tune to match. For each note that was heard circular ripples in the water veil appeared as if it was synchronizing.. 

Now the stage was set, all she had to do was take a breath and … 

Her own voice echoed in a playful staccato. A few of her other Pokemon joined her in a dance. The first was Lamia. The gorebyss coiled around her arms as if were a silk ribbon then ‘diving’ through the water pulse veil behind them.

Just as the song was coming to a crescendo Lynn revealed that trick from up her sleeve. Literally. The capsule resembles a starry sky. Chidori finally made her appearance.The nihilego was her beloved ultra beast. There was no time to worry about what others thought. Keep up with the song. At least until the end. When it came time to wrap it up the water veil evaporated against a timed psywave as the last note was played.

If you were a pokemon what type would you be and what are your moves?

Okay I've been kinda busy lately but I'm finally taking some time to think about this. It's such an interesting question for me, I wanted to find a proper answer lmao

I don't know why but I felt close to water types when I was younger. Hmm, maybe because I was into swimming and particularly loved the sea/summer back then. But I don't think this can still be said for present me, at least for now.

Hmm, thinking about my personality and characteristics, the ones that came to my mind first were grass/psychic/normal types mostly. I love being outside, very close to nature and I enjoy sunny days the most. So grass type could be one.

I'm very thoughtful, I like to sort and organize things. Questioning a lot, criticizing, carefully planning and taking notes too. That could be a psychic type.

I'm not really attracted to something in particular and I don't really have a clear life goal or path to follow. I prefer to test many things out, have and try different interests and hobbies. I tend to change my mind over things and always point out all the possibilities. I could relate to normal types too I think.

I've always kinda been attracted to fighting styles and martial arts in general (never really practiced anything of those but yeah, I would love to feel that kind of freedom and adrenaline). So that could count fighting type.

Hmm, lots of options for me haha. I guess I could just be a mix of one of these: grass/fighting, normal/psychic, grass/psychic, fighting/normal etc

As for the moves... I'll choose in the same way as I did with the types, based on personal skills/behavior. A lot of useless moves actually came to my mind lol. Sunny day, meditate, rest and grudge for example haha. Thinking about more useful moves I could say dream eater, self destruct, secret power, nature power and psywave. These are somehow veeeery related to how I am as a person lmao

Coyotes been extra bold lately so I'm gonna be trying to go out on patrol more to scare em off. They got several chickens already and I'm very against the idea of them possibly getting anymore critters especially the turkey or my favorite goose so I most likely won't be on my computer as often throughout the day.

I need to run through the forest making loud dumb noises. Coyotes are scared of that. Or at least the really ginormous one I got near once was. It took off at the sight of my small-self making noises that can only be described as an alien-caveman while running towards it

You know what I think would be a cool idea for a Pokemon?

An electric/psychic type that's themed after a radio tower/transmitter and has an AoE-oriented moveset with examples being Discharge, Shockwave, and Psywave. Perhaps it could be a variant of Sudowoodo with a design based those "fake tree" cell towers, although a rhino with a radio tower horn might also be cool.

Lore-wise, they could perhaps help their Trainers communicate long-distance by sending and receiving signals for them like a man-made radio tower would.

Psywave! Is there an important memory your muse would not like to forget!

(I'm making this a whole short story )

Back then it was a day like no other. Out with my father helping him work. He was a conservationist. Going out checking the populations and tagging any new mons to keep them safe from poachers. No one knew at the time it was my last time going with him. I guess I just grew out of it. Me and him hiked all the way up to the tallest peak looking for absol. They get hunted so much for their pristine white fur, we would go up there with blue dye to stain it and make it less valuable to poachers. I was finally old enough to go out and tag one without help. When I tell you I nearly jumped on that little guys back to get him. Still have the scar on my arm from it attacking me after which was very much deserved. I did grab it's horn with my dye covered hands over all. I always loved heading out to work with my dad. He was the coolest.
