Comics drive me nuts bc what do you mean that in New Teen Titans, Dick Grayson willingly gave up being Robin to try and figure out what he wanted to do next, then three real years later in Batman it's shown that he got shot and Bruce fired him?? I'm losing it fr...

What Makes Confluence New?
Right now on Backerkit, Confluence: The Living Archive is in its final 11 days of funding. This is a Table Top Role Playing Game unlike any other, but not just for the reasons you might think.
Look, yes, it's a 6 book set with incredible art and layout and an amazing world to explore. This is all true. It's a true living world you get to dive into and experience at the table. That's great, truly!
Tumblr media
But the thing that made Confluence different from any other project out there that I've ever heard of, is that in this industry, freelance writing for TTRPGs pays pennies on the word you turn in.
Some people were recently talking about how 10 cents per word is pretty good! You write 5000 words for a project? That's a nice $500. Other indie people were talking about paying 7 cents per word. But what they almost never offer is hourly pay, or pay for work you do outside the writing (including researching the game material you're writing for, or research for what you're writing!)
The Confluence Contract
Confluence has always meant the world to me. Truly. I tried to fund it and make it on my own multiple times in the past. When the Alleyman's Tarot was successful, I immediately wrote the contract with my lawyer for Confluence.
Everyone who worked on the project would make $25/hr for any work they do on the project. We would all feel we had equal pull and power here in that way, as it had to be collaborative.
Everyone would be paid an up-front Retainer of $10,000 if they were going to work part time, or $20,000 if they were going to work 30 or more hours a week. This was to alleviate current financial stress and give them space to explore the game with more freedom.
Everyone who worked on the project would share ownership with things they make. New cool mechanic? It lives in Confluence AND the creator can take it to their own games later. Awesome NPC? In Confluence and can be adapted anywhere else! I didn't want anyone to hold anything back. As far as I know, this has never been done before.
Tumblr media
I did all this because, you see, I had an amazing team of people who came together to help bring this to life. People in the US, yes, but in Canada, the UK, Brazil, India, the Philippines. You can learn more and get links to them on the Pub Gob website here!
Do You Expect This to be the New Standard?
No, I don't expect all indie publishers to start doing this for TTRPGs. It's costly and not easy. But I want to stress that this is a unique situation we will likely never see again. And Confluence can only exist into the future with such an amazing team if we can step up support on the crowdfunding project!
This experiential game doesn't want to change the industry, but it changed the process behind the scenes already. If you believe in such a thing, a possibility for people to be paid fairly and have equal say and keep the rights for their works, consider believing in this project with us. Confluence needs your help to reach its funding goal, but it also needs your help to push further so the team can continue working in this amazing space to bring you even more materials in the future!
So check us out on Backerkit today!

might be controversial here - but if quakerism dies out, it'll be their own fault. I've been told that other yearly meetings aren't like my own, but in my own yearly meeting, there is such a strong undercurrent of elitism and snobbery. it is so difficult for young people to join and stay. too much is expected of them, and they aren't supported in any real sense. there is no pastoral care. there is an inherent assumption that people have ample resources, both financially and time-wise. I'm being so for real here (maybe a lil dramatic) - I feel actively pushed out more often than not.

Noora Tulus looking to return to Sweden
(The following is machine translated from Swedish from HockeySverige. Originally it was reported by NSD, but this is the version with no paywall. Both are very reliable for the SDHL. The headline above is my own.)
Last year, Noora Tulus left Luleå/MSSK after winning the SDHL's points league and leading Luleå to its sixth consecutive Swedish championship. She then signed a two-year contract with the New York Sirens in the PWHL instead. But now NSD states that Tulus is considering breaking her contract with the Sirens, where there is one year left on the contract, and instead returning home to Sweden. The Finn has had limited ice time in the PWHL during this season and has only been noted for 1+1 in 30 games.
However, it does not look like there will be a return to Luleå for Noora Tulus. Instead, NSD writes that the star is likely to play for Brynäs IF next season. In such a case, she would join former teammate Viivi Vainikka in Gävle. However, several clubs, in addition to Luleå and Brynäs, have reportedly expressed interest in Tulus.

Dear Ms Windling and Mr Barker, I know I have no right to ask this seeing as how I've never published a book, but, if either of you felt like finishing your duology/series before either of you sadly pass on, it would be very very very appreciated.
Mostly you Clive, you're in your 70s and were a chain smoker pleeeease finish Abarat I started reading it in middle school and I'm in my 30s now. Terri Windling, being mid-60s, still has time, but also, the first book came out when I was 4, I think that's been a sufficient wait. Bruce Coville strung me along as well with those unicorn chronicles but at least he did finish.
Per Robin McKinley, well I can understand that she probably doesn't have the heart to write anymore and have long since reconciled there will be no sequel to Pegasus, so that's ok I guess
Abadazad team, I know if it wasn't your fault. Cuss Disney.

Jacob said in an interview ‘The burning of the laptop, Louis doesn’t really have a good understanding of how the cloud works,’ so I think Louis meant to destroy the interview recordings but didn’t count on Daniel having a back-up
I always took that to be an offhand joke from Jacob, anon, but even if Louis did burn the laptop to try and stop the book from being written, he would've had ample time to actually stop it. Books take a long time to get published, even when they're under contract (or at least under first right of refusal) which presumably any book by Daniel this late in his career would be. From memory, Louis also has an advanced reader copy of the book too, which I think is pretty telling as to him having been relatively looped into the publication process, which again, would've taken enough time for him to stop it if he wanted. He wouldn't even have to do that as a vampire - he has more money than God - plenty of billionaires have buried publications or sued publishers before.
The fact that it's published at all means at the very least, a part of him wanted it out there.

Hey writers! ✍️✨ Welcome back to Manuscript Monday! This week’s question is all about contracts. If you’re an indie author working with illustrators, book designers, or editors, what should you include in your contract?"
"Clear Scope of Work: Define exactly what’s being done—deliverables, deadlines, and any specific requirements.
Payment Terms: Outline how much you’ll pay, when, and any penalties for late payment or missed deadlines.
Rights and Ownership: Who owns the final product? Be specific about licensing and usage rights.
Revision Policy: How many edits or revisions are included in the agreement?
Termination Clause: What happens if either party needs to end the contract early?
If creating contracts feels overwhelming, platforms like Fiverr can simplify the process by including terms for you. Or, if you need a custom contract, I’ve got you covered! I’ve been a freelance illustrator for 8 years, drafted over 300 contracts, and I offer affordable contract writing services to help you create a reusable template. DM me for info! Let’s make sure your projects are smooth and stress-free! Drop your contract questions in the comments, and happy writing!
