7 Ideas for Improving Your Approach to Working and thus Your Experience and the Outcome
Tumblr media
"To embrace leisure, we don't have to let go of progress. [Our] constant pushing is now impeding our progress. We work best when we allow for flexibility in our habits . . . [w]e can and must stop treating ourselves like machines that can be driven and pumped and amped and hacked. Instead of limiting and constraining our essential natures, we can celebrate our humanness at work and in idleness. We can better understand our own natures and abilities. We can lean in not to our work but to our inherent gifts." —Celeste Headlee Do Nothing: How to Break Away from Overworking, Overdoing , and Underliving
For the past 10 weeks I have had the good fortune to go to work with both of my dogs. Why? Because I have been working from home.
I am able to take them for a short walk about the neighborhood before I step into my office and remote classroom, then take a break around 10:30 am as we sit on the garden porch, soaking in some sunshine and thinking about what I might want to enjoy for lunch in a few hours time. Lunch is leisurely because I can cook it, savor it, not be rushed to eat it or interrupted and our afternoon outing after about 70-90 minutes of work after lunch is to the mailbox and about the neighborhood. Returning to the office if need be to tie up loose ends, check my work email one more time (I only check my school email three times a day), when the day concludes, I am not exhausted, but I do feel productive.
Admittedly, the scenario I shared above is due to an unwanted global occurrence, and I miss my in-person connections with my students and colleagues, but what I do not miss is the excessive expectation to always be checking my email, regularly being interrupted so that I lose my focus/students' focus and requirement for a long inflexible work day (meaning not healthy breaks, a constant expectation of being "on"), and being rewarded for giving more beyond the work day even if it reduces the quality of my home life and personal relationships.
I am not complaining directly about a system that surrounds so many of us, but trying to be honest about the reality of why I was quietly thankful to have the time at home these past 10 weeks to catch my breath. I did my best to examine why, and while the emotional toll for those of us fortunate enough not to have our health and livelihoods taken away was unhealthy and exhausting, overall, I found great refuge and restoration this spring whilst staying at home, finding a schedule that worked for me as I continued to remotely teach and blog and just be home.
I also found much more time to read books that have been patiently sitting in my shopping cart, and two books furthered my exploration into how exactly improve the working environment when we begin to step back into the workplace. I have a few ideas. Take a look below.
1.Understand the history of the current work culture
"We are investing our time and energy and hard-earned money in things we think will make us more efficient, but those things end up wasting our time, exhausting us, and stressing us out without bringing us closer to or our goals." —Celeste Headlee
Journalist and bestselling author Celeste Headlee reminds readers in her recent book Do Nothing: How to Break Away from Overworking, Overdoing , and Underliving (Amazon; Bookshop) that "[o]ur working habits changed dramatically a little more than two centuries ago" (aka as the Industrial Revolution), and not largely for the better. In fact, humans came to be seen as being capable of producing regularly and steadfastly with minimal breaks much like a machine. Humans are not machines. Our ability to be productive and creative and resilient comes from adequate and regular and in equal measure amounts rest to that of the amount of time we work. No wonder we're exhausted.
2. Enable the mind to think well so you can respond compassionately
Often we are reacting instead of responding to situations in life that arise unexpectedly or unwantingly. At the time, we are not aware because either we have always behaved in such a way or because we do not know or have not been taught a better way. Dr. Sylvia Boorstein speaks about equanimity, and as it pertains to the mind, equanimity "is the capacity of the mind to hold a clear view of whatever is happening, both externally and internally, as well as the ability of the mind to accommodate passion without losing its balance. It's the mind that sees clearly, that meets experience with cordial intent. Becuase it remains steady, and thus unconfused, it is able to correctly asses the situations it meets."
How to become clear thinkers? We acknowledge we do not know everything, and we take a step back and ask helpful questions with a calm tone. We choose to educate ourselves seeking out experts in the field we wish to learn more about - whether in book, audio, video or conversation form. We become comfortable with not having a concrete and absolute response immediately or at all and acknowledging the gray in nearly every situation that presents itself. And lastly, but perhaps most importantly, we rest the mind regularly and well. This includes good nights of sleep, regularly a slower pace in our schedules, days and weeks and a cultivation of environments that enable us to lower our stress levels and feel safe.
"And because we are humans and have empathy built into our brain structure, when we are touched by what we encounter — and when our minds are balanced — we respond with benevolence." —Sylvia Boorstein, Ph.D., author of Happiness is an Inside Job (Amazon; Bookshop)
~Responding vs. Reacting: The Difference, episode #145
3. Let go of the busy mentality
When we reduce the constant go-go-go mentality, we give our lives breath, and figuratively speaking, we give our lives oxygen to live better and thus to improve the quality of our lives. Letting go of busy feeds a cycle of life improvement because as you are letting go of busy, you are improving your decision making skills, reducing the unnecessary stress and constantly cultivating the life you want to live rather than creating more problems, more headaches and less time to adequately address and handle them.
Interestingly enough, studies have shown that we may actually think we are busier than we actually are, but it is the delusion of busyness that is the cause for our mind to feel harried and thus our decision-making abilities to suffer. For example, if you feel pressed for time, this perception can lead you to making bad choices about how you spend your time. Conversely, if you feel you have time to spare, the study revealed people feel healthier and happier. So much of the quality of our lives rest in our minds. Harness the awesome tool of your mind, and you will improve your approach to living.
~Listen/Read episode/post #115 - The 8 Benefits of Banishing Busy
4. Quality productivity is not a result of excessive time given.
"If you silence your phone, close your inbox, and really focus on getting a report done, research shows you'll finish 40 percent faster, have fewer errors, and have plenty of time to take a short walk around the building and let your brain relax." — Celeste Headlee
Studies that were done decades ago have proven that more time does not equate to more output and certainly not a quality output. In 1951, researchers at the Illinois Institute of Technology discovered that people who put in excessive hours were the least productive of all. The most productive were the workers who worked 2-5 hours a day, so 10-20 hours a week. Recently, in Sweden, a hospital attempted to improve the working conditions for the workers, reducing their hours to six hours a day, and no more than 30 hours a week. The hospital was prepared to hire extra workers to make up for the loss of productivity, but do you know what happened? As reported in The New York Times, "The unit [performed] 20 percent more operations, generating additional business from treatments . . . that would have gone to other hospitals." Quality over quantity and in this case it surpassed even that of the hopeful that it would simply be equitable in output.
5. Allow yourself to focus on a single task entirely and without disruption
Simply, turn off the notifications. If you work at a job that expects you to be constantly responding to emails broach the topic of productivity as studies have demonstrated if we cannot give ourselves fully to a task, we cannot do our best work. What this means for me at home is that I have been checking my school emails three times a day during the school day - when the school day begins, at noon and at the end of the day. If this will be a shift for those expecting to hear from you, perhaps send an automated response for the first month or two (or leave it in your footer) when people can expect to hear from you, how frequently you check your email, etc. so that they are not expecting an immediate response and should not worry when they do not receive one.
6. Invest in leisure
"Research shows employees who feel more detached from their jobs during their time at home are emotionally healthier and more satisfied with their lives. They're less likely to feel emotionally exhausted, and they report getting better sleep." —Celeste Headlee
Leisure time is separate from "free time" or "spare time" as Headlee defines it. Spare time is the time we find in between the work we do for our income. Leisure time is entirely separate from work. As she describes it, leisure time is "unpolluted" by work - no emails, no work calls, nor worrying about how your activity might impact your work life. Speaking for myself, while I and many other educators have been at home these past 10 weeks, it has not been leisure time during the work week. I am still, if I am not teaching online, checking my emails, responding to expectations, grading papers and aware of my actions during the school day, etc. My leisure time begins on the weekend, after the school day has ended each work day and will fully begin when our summer holiday starts later this week.
The mind behaves differently when we are on leisure time, and it is imperative that we regularly welcome it into our daily schedule. Each of us will do it differently during the work week and weekend, and perhaps even our holidays, but do make sure you have leisure time in your life to savor and enjoy. It will make a tremendous difference in the quality of your life.
7. Give your mind space to become clear
"Just take one breath and another and another, with as much attention in every way as you can. The confusion will sort itself out. Inclined in the right direction, the mind takes care of itself." —Sylvia Boorstein, Ph.D.
The untrained mind can be a weapon of destruction to ourselves and others. A trained mind, one that is understood, that is strengthened to think well, critically examine and refrain from rash assumptions due to lack of emotional intelligent understanding is an artist's prized possession. However, it is a choice to become a student of our mind. Boorstein writes, "I do not think the mind needs lots of instruction, but I do think it needs to be encouraged and continually inspired." Feed your mind well. Be conscious of what is presented to it (limit social media, be aware of the news and how much you intake, observe how you feel around certain people, the books you read, the videos, shows and television you watch). Choose to feed it with what you are curious about. Delight in learning something new and do not feel guilty for not knowing what the zeitgeist believes is most popular or most noteworthy of the moment. Give your mind space to have clarity, and when it has clarity regularly, it will be your best friend.
~How to be the Master of Your Mind, episode #20
So how can we institute these needed changes if research has repeatedly demonstrated the need to observe that we are human beings, not machines? We need leaders who are well-educated with the resources that demonstrates convincingly that the quality of work will not diminish and likely will increase when we see our employees as human beings. Yes, it is a culture shift, and it will take time, but it takes courage and strong, patient leadership to clearly communicate the benefit to the worker first, knowing that the company, the department, the school, our futures, will be all the better. And even if you are not in a position of leadership at the moment, communication with your leadership body, build a consensus amongst your co-workers. Schedules and approaches change with data, trusted experts and informing the public as well as those it will directly effect, as well as indirectly.
If nothing else, you can start at home and setting boundaries on your work and home life. Cultivate leisure time, practice the strengthening of your mind and begin to see your being settle, relax and enjoy your daily life far more.

What NEVER to Publish on a Real Estate Company Site or Blog
Tumblr media
You're thinking about starting a blog, podcast or vlog. Weeks and months pass by, and you’re still no closer to your goals. You want to be heard. You have a message, and you’re anxious to impact the world with your real estate listings, findings, insights and experience, but… I know... You don't want to look or sound unprofessional You don’t have enough time to dedicate to a regular content marketing schedule You don’t have a budget to outsource this process or have not even considered doing it You don’t know where to start, or what to talk about first Let’s face it. Every real estate business needs a website, and every website should have a blog. (1) But most don’t. (2) Or they’re not regularly updated. (3) Or their content is uninspiring and dull. That’s where YOU come in! Here’s what I mean. We both know that nobody likes to read average articles, stuffed with keywords, and posted on a poorly designed website. If you’re reading this, then you already know your real estate business requires: (1) A pro website design You’re losing money and trust if you go with an average, ‘me too’ website look because... A professional website design reflects your real estate brand and vice-versa. So, it has to reflect a color combination and layout elements that are in sync with your real estate company’s mission, core team values, and principles. (2) An SEO blog setup with Wordpress (preferable) Wordpress is ideal for real estate websites because you get a fast, secure, and easily manageable platform to future-proof build and grow your real estate business. (3) A series of high-quality and highly relevant articles AND blog posts, meant for both humans and Google. If your website is the KING, then your content marketing is the QUEEN. What is high-quality content, and how can you ensure that you create more impactful content even when you lack time?
The Secret to Creating Content of Value as a Busy Real Estate Agent or CEO.
Transform your real estate agency into a micro multi-media agency. Here’s how to accomplish this: Start by producing micro-video content. This less-practiced method saves you plenty of time because you don’t have to manually type in new content. The simple solution is to jot down some ideas, create 3 slides, and expand on the pillar concepts, while you record your screen and speak. Imagine this. 10 minutes worth of recorded video can provide you with enough content for multiple blog posts and short email follow-ups. You can load these into your autoresponder service or CRM to convert prospects into leads, and transform leads into customers, via email and SMS, for many months to come. Here’s what you need to do: You can simply answer the most common and frequently asked questions from your target audience while recording yourself with Screencastify, or other screencast recording platforms. They’re so easy to use and make you look and sound professional, without costing an arm and a leg. The free version has some limitations, but you’re ready to go within seconds to start broadcasting your way to the top. This video content may include questions on what to consider when processing approvals for loans, searching for a house, or even buying a new apartment in your city or county. You get the idea, but you know your audience better than I do, so you’ll know what their requirements are or what key topics to focus on. Prepare a list of the most common questions that prospects might have about your service and listed properties, within the realm of your specific Real Estate location. Here is one simple and proven tool (website) that can help you come up with quick ideas for your top FAQ list: visit Quora. With Quora, you can search for questions and the results will show the responses of others. You can identify the related questions, and get an idea of what people are asking.
Tumblr media
Next, record yourself for an hour at the beginning of each month, and answer all the relevant questions. You’ll have enough content for 30+ days to post to your website or blog. You can take this idea a step further, and hire a VA or have someone from your team distribute this content to your YouTube channel, as well as engage with prospects via Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram. The best invention ever is social media. If used correctly, it can capture attention your target market attention and start significant conversations. All you have to do is hit the record button, and start sharing your screen and slides (you can find lots of slide templates online for free).  Ultimately, these amazing video messages will be your best lead generator and traffic machines. Here are some amazing additional content ideas to help you create premium video content and blog posts to attract your ideal audience. Using these, you can convert prospects into leads, and turn leads into customers - for many years. 100+ Topics and Ideas for Your Real Estate Blog 72 Rock Solid Real Estate Blogging Ideas With Examples 25 Best Real Estate Blog Ideas & Examples (Expert Insights) 7 creative ideas for successful real estate blog posts Real Estate Blog Topics You Can Write About in Less than 30 Minutes Your video content should encourage and entice your prospects to join your lead magnet, and subscribe to your mailing list. This is where most real estate marketers fail miserably. They have their website, location and phone number listed in the video description, or at the end of the video presentation. However, they lack a lead capture offer, or button in the video itself. So, they get stuck, unable to comprehend why their video marketing generate only minimal or no results. However, setting up this lead gen machine doesn’t mean your done. Most automated email campaigns fail, due to multiple reasons. I’ll cover one of the most important ones next.
Here’s why the standard follow-up ‘drip email’ strategy is exceedingly ineffective, and how to create high-converting emails for your real estate campaigns instead
Tumblr media
Plenty of these emails are written in an extremely professional way but lack a personal touch. Drip emails are automated and really reduces you to feeling like a number in a mailing queue. If you are sending these emails, the person on the receiving end will not feel any warmth or love, and will definitely know that no-one took the time to craft the message with care. With the rapid development of automation and artificial intelligence, you need to separate yourself from all the other real estate professionals, while using the same technology.
Tumblr media
Here’s how to make this strategy work for you instead, and increase your chance to bond create trust, and forge new relationships with leads, from day one, week after week, month after month: Stop trying to be perfect. Consider the tone of the email, and create it to sound like it’s meant for a human, instead of creating a mechanical ‘do this, or else…’ demand that will just end up in the ‘deleted’ folder or recycle bin. Therefore, your prospects should feel respected, and not like their intelligence is being underestimated. Use very short, personal email messages. These friendly ‘letters’ will create a personal connection with your prospects or previous clients. This will exude an aura of ‘they care about me’ and would encourage the person to respond, attend your event or refer a friend, colleague or family member. Here are some examples of brief and friendly email messages you can model that actually have a chance of receiving that “tell me more!” reply:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can also send out these messages via text / SMS to further build trust and remain in the mind of your prospects, for longer than those from your competitors. Long gone are the days when real estate CEOs and agents wanted to sound like a big corporations whose only intention was to impress and ‘close the sale’ as fast as possible. What happens if people still don’t respond? Or, how do you reactivate previous clients or lost leads? What is the secret, really? The answer may surprise you. It is so simple, yet you rarely hear that real estate agents use it with any significant results. Here’s what I’m referring to...
How to Bring Real Estate Leads Back from the ‘Dead’
The tips I’m sharing with you to help revive leads that have point blank refused to move forward with you before, are often overlooked by most real estate professionals since they are more interested in generating new leads, instead of taking care of lost opportunities. That goldmine sitting right under your nose can be your most precious asset. Call them. As simple as that, it works wonders. In the conversation, you should always share how you acquired the lead, whether from Trulia, Realtor or maybe Facebook. This will remind the lead that they once inquired about buying a home, finding a location, etc. Be ultra-specific, relaxed, and don’t hide the context. This may lead you to responses like, ‘Already bought a home,’ ‘Still saving my money for a down payment,’ or ‘Fixing my credit.’ With these clients, there is a possibility that they will buy, dive or unsubscribe. It should be noted that there is a small fortune to be had if the follow-up is done right, with a proven strategy on paper, and kept consistent. That’s the KEY. What to do if bad things happen. Like for e.g., … It often occurs that the lead does not pick up your call,  in which case you should leave a voicemail. Despite their busy schedule, the lead might find time to listen to your message and act on it. Voice mail messages can make or break your lead gen campaign. That’s why it is so crucial for you to spend a few minutes, maybe half an hour to perfect the irresistible voicemail message, as well as additional follow-ups. Over time you’ll get better and learn to structure these messages more naturally, while improving your response rate as you advance through life and business.
Private message (PM) leads on their most active social media platform.
Some individuals are faster to reach on Twitter, or Linkedin, while others may prefer Facebook. Take advantage of all platforms, go ‘fishing’ where they can easily be found. Testing  your message across all these different channels will help you make an informed decision, while eventually perfecting your approach. This method will help you address the fast-paced life of leads and everyone else.  If somebody is active and ready to go, they will reach out to you. If not, there are enough leads for you to consider, and you’ll never look back.
What to say in order to catch the fishes and profit from leads:
Offer time-sensitive or exclusive information that is not available on the top sites or in the local markets. This will pique their interest since everyone would like to be the first to acquire the information before it is distributed to the rest. Be a natural ‘actor,’ improve your role playing, and show passion when delivering your messages, one person at a time. If you know someone who does not know what to do with their list of ‘dead’ leads, you may consider buying the list from them, and apply the above tips to win and/or revive some of these back into your funnel.  Or, you can partner up with them, and create a joint venture where you split the profits from all revenue generated. Sounds like a win-win situation, right? There is money and opportunities in ‘dead’ leads. Get out there with a simple, and consistent plan. Use the best CRM available for real estate and follow-up extensively. Here are some more drip email & follow-up ideas: 17 Best Real Estate Email Templates & Scripts (I simply love the 2nd idea!) 14 Real Estate Email Templates to Use (Hubspot knows their game) 10 Real Estate Email Templates for Building Leads & Selling Listings (you may want to pay close attention to the very first template because it usually gets the highest response rate) 10 Real Estate Lead Conversion Emails (don’t overlook the first two examples) From learning about…
What NEVER to Publish on a Real Estate Company Site or Blog
You’ve discovered how to rapidly create high-quality content, using the 10-minute micro-video formula. More importantly, you learned how to properly follow-up with prospects and leads - even during busy days. This is one of the best ways to stand out in a crowded, busy, and mechanical real estate market. My Watch is.. still going
Since starting a new position at work and waking up at 2:30 every morning I have become a hermit - bad for my social life and general wellbeing, but a great time to start watching a new TV series. Or rather, a show that’s not new at all, just one that everyone has been watching for 8 years, and I’m just jumping on the bandwagon now. Yes, I have finally gotten into Game of Thrones. As I write this I have five more episodes of the final season to watch, so I figured now was as good a time as any for some self-reflection on the fact that, in between working ten hours a day, the rest of my time has been devoted to finding out who will end up on the Iron Throne and sleeping.
I’ve always been of the credence that yes, one day when I’m 60 and have enough time, I will in fact sit down and watch Game of Thrones. That all changed at 4am in the last week of May, when I arrived at work to find a package on my desk -  w the words ‘unbowed, unbent, unbroken’ written on it - I later learned that was the motto of one of the great houses of GoT - and a USB inside, with the first season all ready for me. Thanks to my colleague Will, my watch had begun.
Throughout each episode I’ve live texted Will my thoughts, emotions and reactions to just about every scene - usually in all capitals. I’ve noticed this has greatly added to the quality of my viewing - it’s nice to know you can send a one line quote from Season 2 episode six and he’ll know exactly where I am in which episode and can respond in kind with a follow up line, appropriate gif or meme. It’s different to the normal viewing experience because while you don’t have the immediacy and intimacy of an in-person response, the anticipation of a text reaction feels like more of a shared, special event - I’m taking time while watching this thing to let you know I’m watching the thing: here are my raw thoughts. Far more exciting.
My phone had to be put down for some moments though - particularly for the Battle of the Bastards - it was such a sensory overload I couldn’t be trusted to text properly AND keep track of Jon Snow.
So I began, a novice in season one (in love with Jon and Robb and protective of Ned - how well did THAT turn out?) and I quickly realised I wasn’t going to be able to get through this without some help. So I had some red wine to cope with the first big death of the season (it’s been so long I can’t really remember who it is now) and got on with it. Then came Ned’s death (cue gasps) and onwards to the most important part of season three - no, not the Red Wedding - you better believe I’m talking about Robb Stark’s first relationship and sex scene w cute healer Talisa. I will say I never thought a scene with a leg amputation could be choked with sexual tension, but let me tell you GoT made it happen (context: Robb is on the battlefield being smouldery, Talisa comes to help a wounded enemy soldier and has to cut his leg off while she and Robb exchange heated flanter) and then they finally get it on after she tells some heart wrenching story about her brother (sad but it went right out of my head as soon as I saw Robb’s bum. It’s the important things).
There’s been a lot written about the shock value of Game of Thrones - killing main characters for the sake of killing them, using sexual violence as a plot device, and gratuitous violence. Regarding the sex and violence; first, there’s a Lot if it. A lot more than I thought. Lots of boobs and bums and moments where I had to pause when a family member came into the room. I was pretty surprised at how normalised this became for me - before long I found myself glad and inwardly cheering when someone got axed, poisoned, or ripped apart by dogs (you all know who I mean here.)
When violence was used, sometimes in not-so-great moments (shall we be reminded of Sansa’s awful rape scene) - it did  sometimes serve as a real catharsis to see some truly terrible people be given their comeuppance (Ramsay’s great ending, Joffrey’s wedding, ) Other people who don’t deserve it are brutalised as well (once again Sansa, and how many others I can’t remember). There’s definitely no discrimination on that front.
There’s also a weird sense of redemption. Not in every character (obvs - what show is this again?) but being able to follow a character’s arc in one go without break has made their journey all the more meaningful. Particularly for the character of Theon: (a brief summation: he betrays his adopted family and best friend, then gets mutilated and psychologically tortured and broken down before he breaks down and changes). Seeing him come to back to life and find his morals again has been a real highlight and emotional strongpoint of the show for me. I cheered and teared up for each bout of progress he made - fair play to him, he took his fucking time and made loads of mistakes along the way, but he got there.
Regarding the controversial Ending™ my dad told me he read about one guy who binged the whole show like I’ve done, and he had a markedly improved opinion of the final season compared to other people. Everyone I’ve spoken to has, in their own words, said there’s a Golden Period (roughly seasons 2 - 6), and then everything from then on is basically horse shit. I don’t know if that’s right or I’m in a position to judge yet, but right now there’s nothing more satisfying to see characters who have been on separate journeys for literally 8 seasons come together and interact after so long.
So to sum up watching seven and a half seasons, roughly 68 hours and 4080 minutes of TV in under a month - it’s been A Lot. I think I have popular and unpopular opinions about the characters and storylines (pop: Jaimie and Brienne need to bang) vs (unpop: Dany’s character development - nope and she needs to stop conquering cities pls). I am glad I’ve waited this long to watch it all in one go (if I had to wait a year to find out what happened to Jon Snow after the season five finale I would have fucking RIOTED). I’ve appreciated the small moments: the Night’s Watch banter, the dire pups, Jon and Ygritte’s excellent enemies to lovers relationship (a personal favourite trope of mine), and everything Varys says, to the bigger pieces of the puzzle: Jon’s true heritage, the Stark’s getting avenged, Arya’s and mainly Sansa’s transformation from the girl who wanted to marry Joffrey to the absolute badass bish she is from where I currently sit.
So is my life changed? Nope. But at least now I’m part of the cultural carpet. My watch is nearly over, but what an absolute time its been.
HONOURABLE MENTIONS OF GREAT MOMENTS FOR THOSE IN THE KNOW (AKA EVERYONE ON EARTH)
Sam getting ripped for reading by all the dudes in the Night’s Watch
Dany’s excellent outfit choices in s7/8 - a particular shoutout to the winter outfit of season 7 episode 8 and the grey frock with the red dragon cape (LIVING for the texture)
Ditto Cersei - taking power suits to a whole new level since taking the Iron Throne (this particular outfit is an absolute LEWK and the picture doesn’t do the spiky shoulders justice)
Jon’s transition to the man bun post-resurrection (I personally detest man buns but I absolutely loved this change for him)
Sansa’s dead straight curtain of hair - there’s something super satisfying about it after years of her wearing those Padme Amidala style ‘Southern Style’ hair
The entirety of House Tyrell (particular mention to Lady Olenna who deserves all the awards in the world for only killing one character in this show)
Lady Margaery’s sassy backless dresses (she knows how to make the most of the King’s Landing climate)
Jaime and Brienne’s entire relationship (from the enemies to friends trope to him GIVING HER HIS SWORD AND A WHOLE SUIT OF ARMOUR) - if that’s not a love confession then I will just cut off my own damn hand
The entirety of the shirtless Flex Scene™ of the pilot
Sansa saying the iconique phrase ‘How do you answer these charges, Lord BaELISH’
Any time anyone said the words ‘King in the North’
Battle of the Bastards - need I say more. I won’t big it up like so many of the magazines and entertainment websites did, but it felt like one of the most realistic depictions of a medieval battle you could find. I felt it in my gut. I don’t know how you couldn’t. When Jon couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t breathe.
Bran literally being the group member of the assignment who drags you down bc he just sits in a cave

Testing the GUI’s
In a previous post I stated the three ideas/concepts we have that are applicable to GUI’s. I believe that these ideas can be implemented in a physical realm as well, but I want to see them evolve that way naturally in that case. For now we have come up with three GUI ideas that might easily be merged into one whole concept.
As for the testing, let’s start with the first concept: “Subject of call”:
Tumblr media
To make a prototyping activity out of this idea I had an idea of sending a text to a family member with the subject that I wanted to call about before actually making the call. This is not something I usually do, I usually just call the family member first and then states what it is I called about. This is the other way around, which we had some ideas about might ease and relieve the stress and anxiety that might be involved when receiving a phone call.
I tested this prototyping activity on my sister, and the conversation went like this:
Me (Clara): “Hey I want to call you and talk about [Netflix show] haha”
Sister: “hahah but I’ve only seen 2-3 episodes :( can call you on like friday? I have a student party tomorrow”
Me: “Yeah do that”
Sister: “Then I’ll have watched some more”
Me: “By the way this was a part of an experiment we’re doing in school where we research family communications like the dice game you played yesterday. You’ll get some questions you can answer when you have time:
How do you view calls in general? Do they cause stress or not?
Why do they cause stress? Is it because you don’t know why someone is calling?
How did it feel to get to know the subject of the call before I make the call?”
Sister: “hahah so you didn’t actually want to call me.. Answers:
It’s coool they do not cause stress.
I find it interesting when someone calls, it might be someone from the camping so it’s as exciting every time.
It’s fine, then you know what you’re supposed to talk about but I don’t usually think it’s strange to call without a reason either.
I don’t have “phone-phobia” as half the population of Sweden has”
(To give some context behind the camping situation - my sister has a phone number very similar to a phone number to a camping spot which sometimes causes strangers trying to reach the camping spot reach my sister instead.)
The feedback I gained from this was that it wouldn’t be a problem to see the line of subject, but it’s not necessary for people without phone phobia. I would like to extend this test to include family members that actually have phone phobia to see if the feedback would be different or not. With this feedback we have an idea that might be easily integrated in the everyday life of families, but it’s not a problem-based solution. I remember the lecture we had on problem-based solutions early in this program and value what was said, that the best designs spawn from real problems.
Karin did some research yesterday Wednesday the 5th on phone phobia and came up with some interesting findings that might back up our idea and make it problem-based instead of a solution to a non-problem. Phone phobia is essentially a fear of making and taking phone calls, which in the long-run might negatively impact family communications. Karins research resulted in (amongst others) these two findings that are relevant to our concept of having a line of subject of the call beneath the caller ID.
Anxiety may be triggered by concerns that the caller may bear bad or upsetting news.
Past experiences, such as receiving traumatic news, or enduring an unpleasant and angry call, may also play a part in creating fear.
Our common idea of how to make receiving calls easier and less stressful for family members with (or without) phone phobia is to have a line of subject to convey what the call is about. This would solve the two bullet points above of the receiver not answering the call due to not knowing whether or not the caller may bear bad news - since the line of subject will enable the receiver to know what the call is going to be about.
I like this idea and want to test it more on a greater variety of people and family members. More with phone phobia and more without phone phobia - to see how they all individually experience phone calls and if our idea might solve some family communication issues.
_____________________________
Moving on to our concept of availability, to be able to see when your family members are available or not and to adjust your own status to convey it to your family.
Tumblr media
We haven’t been able to really test this idea yet, simply because we don’t know how. Although, we’ve done some research and came up with this:
Time zones can often be in the way of knowing when it’s reasonable to call or not.
Separated parents need to contact each other sometimes due to having a child together, but sometimes the separated parents might need their own space and choose to not be contacted.
A cause of phone phobia might be that you don’t know if you’re going to disturb the person you want to call. Sometimes it’s hard to know when it’s appropriate to call.
Karin also sent these mock-ups and explained our idea to a friend, which gave us the feedback that it might be a problem that the family members won’t update their status because it takes an extra step. This is something we will considering moving forward. Maybe we can make the app “smart” enough to change the status for us?
I enjoy the thought of implementing this in a phone’s contact list. Collectively as a group we have ideas and thoughts of merging all three GUI ideas into one. All three ideas might bridge the gap between people with phone phobia and people without it? Always knowing when it’s okay to call and regulating when it’s okay for someone to call you as well as knowing what the call is going to be about. The third idea we have is an idea to distinguish family notifications from the rest of the constant flow of notifications we get throughout the whole day.
_____________________________
Our third GUI concept is a color indicator for when it’s notifications from family which will separate these notifications from the rest of the notifications on your phone. We also have a thought of implementing these colors into the screen when a family member calls you.
Tumblr media
We have not been able to do any real “prototyping activities” on this other than, just like above, sending the mock-ups to friends explaining our idea and asking them to give us feedback.
The feedback we got from showing these mock-ups were:
Enjoys color themes to separate family from other, kind of like a calendar where you can have different categories for e.g. school, work, spare time.
This person would use it if it would exist.
This is a simple concept that is quite closed in itself, but maybe it can serve a purpose in a more open and novel idea? I want to explore what will happen when we try to merge all these three GUI ideas into one GUI.
_____________________________
I am also very interested in how the physical game idea can open up some aspects of family relationships and spawn deeper conversations and connections. I think our purpose of all of our ideas (except the lamp) is to enable deeper connections with your family. The majority of the ones working with this Project 2 have family in other places than where we are right now - which makes the qualitative family time limited. I think our collective idea is to enable new ways to spend quality time with your family. We are all interested in exploring what spawns deeper conversations and how they help forming stronger bonds in a family.

15 Critical Website Fixes to Make Before Launching a Mobile App
Your target market has gone mobile. Mobile users spend up to 12% of their time browsing on their device, which works out to 87 hours a month or 1,044 hours a year spent on their phone; 90% of that time is spent using mobile apps.
Which is why having a mobile app can be so valuable for your business. No wonder everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon. Even 67% of small businesses now have a mobile app.
The problem is, many apps are just awful extensions of already bad websites. While you might feel the urge to dive straight into developing your own and racing it to the market, it’s a huge mistake. Mobile apps are a gateway to your site. So trying to implement them without some critical website optimization can directly impact the amount of time and money it takes to create the app.
Here are 15 website tweaks you should make before considering a mobile app.
Speed Optimization
Speed is critical to the user experience. Which means that if you want your website and your mobile app to provide a great user experience, the first thing you need to do is optimize your site speed.
Here are the tweaks you need to make, to do so:
1. Minify
Minification reduces the size of your website CSS, JavaScript, and HTML content. It works by removing any unnecessary website code, such as:
Unnecessary code in your JavaScript;
Unused spaces in your CSS;
Unnecessary line-breaks in your HTML.
If you use WordPress, there are plenty of plugins available that will take care of this process for you, including Fast Velocity Minify and Autoptimize.
2. Compress
Text compression can also boost speed, especially on text-heavy websites such as blogs. Most Content Delivery Networks support the sending of compressed files so you can set up default compression through a tool such as Gzip.
If you don’t host your own website, you can use Check GZIP Compression to see if compression is already set up. If it’s not, the easiest way to install it is through a plugin such as W3 Total Cache, WP Super Cache or WP Rocket.
3. Maximize Caching
HTTP caching is when a browser stores copies of resources so that they can be re-accessed faster. Using an HTTP cache header, you can define when, how, and how long a response should be cached.
You can configure your server to attach the HTTP Cache-Control header and modify it for how long you want data cached. One way to do this is to add the header directly into your code.
Here is an example of a PHP header with a Cache-Control setting of max-age equal to 84,600 seconds (1 day):
header('Cache-Control: max-age=84600')
By setting a max-age expiration header, you will ensure repeat visitors are not slowed down accessing resources they downloaded before. Aim for caching as many resources for the longest period of time as securely possible. Then provide validation tokens for efficient revalidation of the resources that got updated.
4. Reduce JavaScript Load Time
JavaScript can cause delays, especially if you have large bundles of it. On an average mobile phone, processing these bundles can take 5–10x longer than on a desktop. You can combat this with code splitting.
Code splitting breaks your JavaScript bundles into pieces to deliver them faster and only as users need it. It can be applied at a route level or component level with tools such as React, Parcel, and Webpack.
5. Optimize Images
Visuals are important for user engagement, but the last thing you want is for them to slow down the user experience. Thankfully, there are plenty of tools on the market that will help you compress and optimize your images.
Here are a number of options to choose from:
One-off optimization tools:
ImageOptim
XNConvert
Automated optimization:
Imageflow
Imagemin
Thumbor
Hosting and optimization:
Akamai
Cloudinary
Fastly
6. Format Animated Content
The GIF format is popular for animations, but it was actually never intended as an animation platform. By switching to a more suitable video format, you can greatly reduce file size and speed up page times.
You can use the FFmpeg tool to convert animation GIFs into mp4 files. You can also use the Effective Type API tool to identify slow bandwidths, and automatically convert from delivering your animated images to much smaller JPEGs. While it does remove some of the user experience, it’s better than the site failing to load or operating unreasonably slowly.
7. Reduce Plugins
WordPress has over 54,000 plugins. While it is the largest platform on the market, even competing options still offer plugins in the thousands. There are plugins for practically anything you can dream up these days — ecommerce plugins like BigCommerce for WordPress, email marketing plugins like Mailchimp, and conversion rate optimization plugins like OptinMonster. Many of them add valuable functionality.
The problem is, too many plugins can slow down your site speed. First, make sure you don’t have anything installed that you’re not using. Next, uninstall any plugins for services that you can integrate with your website through other means. Google Analytics is a prime example. There is no reason to use a plugin for this integration when you can do it with an API key.
Finally, if you still have a lot of plugins look for some all-in-one solutions that can replace handfuls of niche ones. For instance, don’t use separate plugins for minification, compression, and caching when there is one solution for all three. However, perform your due diligence as some all-in-one plugins like Jetpack slow down your site more than any others.
How many plugins are too many? Here’s a general rule of thumb:
No more than five if you have shared or budget cloud hosting;
No more than 20 if you use cloud hosting, VPS hosting, or a dedicated server.
8. Use AMP
Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) refers to an open-source web programming language that delivers static content instantly to mobile devices. It’s basically a lean, stripped down version of HTML built specifically for speeding up non-interactive web pages on mobile devices.
Because it’s a stripped down version, you do trade-off some functionality for this rapid speed. Here are two potential drawbacks to be aware of:
JavaScript is limited to an off-the-shelf AMP library;
Lazy load functionality is enabled (images load as you scroll down to them);
Lead generation may be impacted, as AMP often removes opt-in forms.
On the other hand, one of the biggest advantages (other than the improved speed) is that Google’s mobile-first indexing tends to promote AMP pages in search results. There are plenty of plugins to choose from for enabling AMP, including AMP, AMP for WP – Accelerated Mobile Pages, and AMP WP – Google AMP For WordPress.
9. Address Redirects and Broken Links
Redirects and broken links can kill your user experience as well as slow down your site speed.
Redirects
You’ll want to minimize redirects as much as possible, as they impact page speed and even the overall load time of your site. The delay tends to become even more noticeable when users are on mobile devices.
You can use a free tool such as Screaming Frog to check your website for any redirects. Once you’ve found some, remove any that aren’t needed and make changes to any that need to be updated.
If you have a secure site, you can also use HSTS to remove the SSL redirect.
Broken Links
Thankfully, there are also free tools you can use to find and fix broken links across your website. Two examples are:
Broken Link Checker
Xenu
Once you identify the broken links, you can either update them with the right URL or remove the linkage.
Both of these checks should be a routine part of your website management as redirects and broken links can crop up again over time.
10. Continually Test
We’ve covered nine significant methods for optimizing your page speed before introducing a mobile app. While this should significantly increase your site performance, you could still have more opportunities for improvement.
There are hundreds of tools for testing your website page speed and mobile readiness, but the best place to start is with Google’s PageSpeed Insights tool.
It will give you a current page speed score for both your desktop and mobile versions of your site and make specific suggestions on how you can improve.
The next step is to use Test My Site to further analyze mobile page speed and friendliness.
All you need to do is enter your website URL, and it will scan your site and evaluate. You can also get a free report containing optimization advice in exchange for submitting your email.
Site speed also provides huge SEO benefits. In addition to writing high-quality, long-form content and getting backlinks, site speed has a major impact on increasing website traffic.
In early 2019, I conducted a personal case study where I wrote as many guest posts as I could in 15 days. In that timeframe, I received 247 backlinks and a 372% increase in organic traffic.
However, this pales in comparison to the impact site speed has had on my mobile traffic. By boosting my mobile speed from 33 to 75+ over the same time period, I saw my mobile rankings increase 1,775% according to Google Analytics data.
UI Optimization
Speed may be at the top of the UX hierarchy, but it’s not the only factor. There are other components to consider, such as:
How easy it is to find what you’re looking for;
How well the site fits your mobile screen;
How simple it is to use;
How attractive it looks.
You can use the following site tweaks to streamline and maximize the user interface.
11. Simplify Your Structure
Your website needs to be intuitive and easy for users to navigate, especially when they’re trying to do so on the small screen of a mobile device.
Make sure your hierarchies are streamlined and that you have no more than one nested content level. Your ideal site structure should look like this:
Homepage
Categories (or sections)
Sub categories (only for larger sites)
Individual pages and posts
Focus on what your users are typically looking for and map out the common paths they will take. Then you can arrange categories in a hierarchy that will make the most sense to your audience.
You should also use knowledge base software to create a central resource or knowledge base for any users seeking answers to common questions.
This is about the simplest design tweak you can do that makes a lasting impact for both desktop and mobile usage.
12. Focus on Content Design
Designing your content around mobile can be a bit trickier, but it’s crucial for a successful mobile experience. A bad website design can kill your content on your app.
The bottom line is that you need your content to shine through with as few distractions as possible. To do this, you may need to remove elements such as tables, graphs, and other clunky elements that don’t translate well to the small screen.
You also need to strip down features such as headers, footers, menus, and sidebars so that they can be hidden or collapsed on smaller screens. Disable any hover-effects for your content as many mobile devices don’t have this functionality.
You don’t want to use too much text either. You can cut down on text by using tools such as Grammarly’s goals and audiences to help you create more concise copy that’s on point. Or, even better, focus on replacing text with more video content to maximize your mobile experience.
13. Reduce Banners and Sliders
Sliders have been popular for a while, but people typically add 5-6 high-quality images to a slider, which increases the overall load time of your website. Plus, studies show sliders annoy users and reduce visibility, especially on mobile.
Banners can result in similar problems, especially if they have any embedded text within the image. If you currently have any banners with text you should render the text with HTML & CSS instead of embedding it into the image. This will make it more flexible and easier to see on a smaller screen.
14. Optimize Forms and Touch Points
If your website has forms on it, pay attention to the field types, lengths, and labels. Everything should be clearly visible on any device. Enable functionality so that if a user taps on a field to enter information, the view zooms-in to the correct spot.
Check to see if you have field types that require a different keypad or touchscreen, such as a ZIP code, phone number, or electronic signature. If so, you should set the field to trigger the correct keyboard when tapped on, so users don’t have to switch manually.
Make sure all touch points and buttons will be visible and large enough to easily tap with a finger on a small screen. The standard recommendation is that they should be roughly 48 x 48 dp in size. Place text inside of the buttons rather than above or below it for easy identification.
15. Streamline Checkout
If you run an ecommerce website, this final tweak is for you.
About half of all ecommerce traffic comes from mobile devices, but when it comes to buying more people still do it on their desktops. This is likely because the entire flow of ordering, checking out, and paying is not properly optimized for mobile devices.
To identify where your process needs improvement, go through all of the steps across multiple devices and screen sizes and identify any pain points. The issue may be something we’ve already covered such as difficult form navigation or too small touch points.
However, even with these optimized, if you require a lot of data, it can still be painful to enter it all from a mobile device.
You can remedy this in one of the following ways:
Allow users to create profiles that will save and pre-populate their checkout information including shipping address and credit card number
Integrate with other payment gateways, such as PayPal that won’t require them to re-type their information.
Conclusion
Phone screens are getting larger, and tablets are getting more sophisticated, so it’s no wonder more of your audience is logging on and interacting through a mobile device.
A mobile app can be a great way to further engage with your users. But only if you optimize your website first to ensure a smooth user experience.

How easy it is to find what you’re looking for;
How well the site fits your mobile screen;
How simple it is to use;

My first experience in Nepal was filled with earthquakes and relief work, so it was not until my third trip to Nepal that I finally got a chance to go trekking Annapurna Sanctuary, something most people do their first trip. Was great to cross another thing off my travel bucket list (because we all know my lazy ass isn’t making it up to Everest Base Camp).
View of the Annapurna mountain range from my hotel room at the Pokhara Grand. We didn’t check-in until late in the afternoon, hence all the dust in the air….but still a great view 😉
How To Get To Pokhara
All Annapurna adventures begin in Pokhara, arguably Nepal’s most beautiful city. Flights in/out of Pokhara offer an amazing view of the Annapurna Mountain Range, including Machapuchare aka Fishtail. (Had I not been sitting in the aisle of out little Buddha Air plane, maybe I would have actually gotten a photo.) Arriving via road is also a scenic sight, albeit decidedly less fun on your posterior. Nepal is like a mountainous wild west, and while there are luxury accommodation options here, getting to/from them is often everything but luxurious.
Twenty years ago Pokhara was a village, a bump in the road, but now as a result of modern tourism and increased numbers of trekkers pouring in to the region, Pokhara has turned into a thriving city that rivals Kathmandu in modern technology and soon smart phones may even be available for sale here.
What To Pack For Trekking Annapurna Sanctuary
Follow @the_HoliDaze
Trekking in Nepal nowadays is not like it was 20 years ago. Most of the guesthouses have hot water available for showers (for an extra charge) and wifi available, although yes it is as slow as you guessed and not useful for much more than sending tweets. Items like water and toilet paper are not hard to find while trekking, but other supplies you should get before leaving Pokhara:
A quality backpack   Even if you hire sherpas to carry your gear (see below), you will still want a small camera bag or backpack to carry your camera, water, snacks, first aid kid, wallet, etc.
Walking sticks   Not everyone uses these, but those who do swear by them. I personally prefer to have my hands free to operate a camera or catch myself if I fall, but if you fall less than me…
Your camera equipement   Don’t be that guy who flies halfway around the world only to forget his camera battery charger in Pokhara because trust me, you won’t find one up in the mountains.
Consumables   There’s plenty of tea houses in Annapurna Sanctuary but if you like granola bars, trail mix, or any other foreign foods, Pokhara is your last place to grab them.
Beer / Alcohol   There is nothing more refreshing after a long day of mountain trekking than a nice cold beer. Unfortunately alcohol increases in price drastically the higher you get up the mountain, so if you plan on drinking a lot during your trek, it is best to start prepared. Bring a couple bottles of beer with you, or better yet a bottle of whiskey. If the weight is too much for you, just toss the bottle in the sherpa bag.
Forgetting any last-minute supplies?
Nepalese people from around the country come to Pokhara to find work but foreigners come here to trek. Any last minute items you need to prepare for trekking the Annapurna Circuit can be found at one of the many shops around town. This includes camera gear, SD cards, GoPro accessories and/or solar chargers — here is your last opportunity to get them.
View on the way to Nayapul
How To Get To Nayapul
Nayapul is your gateway to the Annapurna Conservation Area. It is also where the roads end. Small groups would probably find it most affordable to take a public bus from Pokhara to Nayapul (less than 200 rupees / $2 USD) but larger groups and more discerning trekkers will want to hire a driver from in town. It is around 2000 rupees ($20 USD) per vehicle for a ride to Nayapul, however rides back to Pokhara after your trek can be negotiated for cheaper, as there will be extra drivers around “town” eager to make some money. (I use the word “town” loosely.)
We opted for a private jeep. Two, actually.
While much of our group slept on the 40km drive from Pokhara to Nayapul, the view was too beautiful for me to close my eyes. The road switchbacks up along the mountain edge until you reach Nayapul, which is essentially your last access point to the human world. From here on you’ll have to rely on your legs. Or in our case, our sherpas.
Our group photo before trekking Annapurna Sanctuary….wait until you see the after photo at the end 😉
With our sherpas already a good hour ahead of us, our ragtag group of questionably-prepared travel bloggers, writers and photographers hit the road — I mean, the mountain — running. However despite high hopes for this adventure, only one of our group decided to start the trek with an ice cold “Gorkha beer to give me strength like the Gorkha”….can you guess who?
Love how you are holding a beer before trekking a mountain in Nepal. Good lad.

Trekking Travel Tip: *Do* Get Sherpas
While much of the Annapurna Conservation Area offers mild to moderate trekking, there are definitely some steep spots and hard stretches. These are even trickier when wet and/or covered in buffalo poo. Unless you are traveling very lightly then I recommend hiring sherpas to accompany your group. Our tour package included several sherpas, so we didn’t have to pay extra for them, merely tip each one 500 rupees a day ($5 USD) for their services.
Sherpas make trekking Annapurna so much easier!
Where is the Birethanti TIMS checkpost?
From Nayapul it is a 15-minute walk along the Modi River to the “New Bridge”, entrance to the Annapurna Conservation Area. Register at the TIMS checkpost before crossing the bridge — after the bridge is another checkpoint and you’ll need to have all your paperwork in order. Do not lose your card as there are checkpoints scattered throughout the ACA. (Although there was much talk of updating the TIMS system after the Nepal earthquakes in 2015, nothing appears to have changed yet.)
Which Route To Choose?
The beauty of trekking around the Annapurna Conservation Area is that there are small villages scattered throughout the mountains here. Not only does this allow you some flexibility to “create your own route” but it also prevents you from getting too lost, because within a few hours of hiking you are guaranteed to pass through another small village or past a couple of tea houses or guesthouses.
The Annapurna Conservation Area
Our group of professional bloggers only had 4-5 days free for trekking, so unfortunately going all the way to Annapurna Base Camp was out of the question. Instead we headed for Ghorepani and Poon Hill. From there we went to Tadapani and then on to Ghandruk. However rather than continuing to on Chnomrong and ABC we trekked to Kimche and from there caught a jeep back to Birethanti.
You Cannot Fight Mother Nature, So Don’t Even Try
One thing you learn very quickly when traveling is that you cannot fight Mother Nature. Don’t even try it. She always wins. And unfortunately for us, she decided to make our Annapurna trek as rainy as possible from the first day.
Nepalese Raincoats   The tea shops and guest shops will happily cut one side of a plastic trash bag to make you a Nepalese jacket for the modest fee of only $1 each. That may sound expensive, but if you encounter more than just a few minutes of rain, this will be the best dollar you spend in Annapurna. 😉
Charlene ditched her expensive rain jacket or a $1 Nepalese rain cover 😉
If the rain gets really bad it can take the fun out of trekking, so don’t be afraid to take a day off and lounge around your guesthouse. Beds only cost a few dollars a night and food/electricity/wifi costs are minimal, you might as well stay another day. Crack and beer, put down your phone and soak up the surroundings.
Warning   Haggling around Nepal is normal but inside the Annapurna Conservation Area all prices are set by ACAP and there is no haggling allowed. After the second tea house you’ll realize all the menus on the mountains are also the same — this is why. ACAP regulates everything.
Our group gathering for food and drinks at our guesthouse in Ghorepani
Souvenir Shopping While Trekking
The souvenirs for sale in Kathmandu and Pokhara are exactly the same as the ones for sale up in the mountains around Annapurna EXCEPT for one important difference — here all the profits will go to a family that can really use them, instead of to some middleman in Pokhara.
We all purchased Nepalese wool hats for 400 rupees each ($4 USD)
I purchased all my clothing and other souvenirs in Ghorepani and Ghandruk where the money will go to good use. I also bought a lot of postcards and mailed them out to friends, fans and followers via Twitter. Thankfully there are plenty of post offices on the mountain trails 😉
Annapurna post office 😉
Oh The Sights You’ll See!
Trekking in Nepal is first and foremost about the scenery….unless you are climbing Everest, then its about the challenge, obviously. But for most of us the scenery is enough. Remember to soak up as much of the view as possible, even if the weather is cloudy or less than ideal.
More photos from our Annapurna journey:

The trekking starts smooth
The stairs aren’t easy but nice
Passed a beautiful sanctuary in a dry river bed

How To Get Back To Civilization
Getting down the mountain is decidedly much easier than getting up. And much faster, as one might expect. However the views are no less beautiful so be sure to soak up every minute of it. After all, when is the next time you’re going to be trekking in Nepal? Plan ahead and make the most of your trip — Bookmundi has 400 separate Nepal tour packages covering not just the Annapurna Circuit but every corner of Nepal. Earthquake repairs are still ongoing — come here, spend a few dollars, and rest easy knowing that you’re helping Nepal, one of the friendliest and most beautiful countries on earth.

I likewise advise to go and also talk to the customers (5-6 can be sufficient). Deal them a free lunch as a praise, chat with them a little bit, and ask why they like your restaurant to other. It can occasionally take place that people state that they concern the restaurant due to the fact that it has its very own oven and constantly serves delicious fresh bread, and also you had also no idea concerning that. Compare 2 listings: the very first one where you listed your personal understanding of your company and the second one with your searchings for after talking with the clients. Therefore, such an analysis can assist remodel voids and also reassess the benefits highlighted on the previous phase. 4. Determine your target consumer. If you want to produce the best restaurant web design, the customers are, certainly, one of the most considerable components to take into account. After all, a full-fed as well as satisfied diner is a dream of every restaurant proprietor. The concern you should ask yourself is "That am I trying to target?" Aim to determine as more concerning your customers as feasible, from the age group to choices. Does the facility placement itself as a vegan dining establishment? It will most likely bring in millennials valuing authenticity above almost all else. Is it a restaurant with remarkable interior and also scrumptious regional food situated in the city center? Let's suggest that there will certainly be crowds of travelers. Is it a Michelin-starred, elite restaurant? Well, you probably got it. Establishing your target client is crucially crucial. If you miss the mark, your website will certainly attract a wrong audience, clients that will certainly more than likely to be misled by your brand name pledge. Consequently, the basic idea of your future restaurant internet site ought to assist that specification. A detailed map and also driving instructions are for disoriented vacationers. Computer animated images of fresh salad and also crisp carrot are for hard-headed vegans. A psychedelic video clip of dance half-naked chef is for fans of exotic cuisine. Usage extensive language when resolving to a certain target market. Individuals will value it, be sure. 5. Define the most effective rivals and also analyze their websites in order to avoid to be alike. Pick direct (comparable sort of restaurant and also earnings goal), indirect (comparable kind of restaurant but various income objective), and replacement (dining establishments people can go instead of picking your own) competitors. Look closely at their sites and highlight good as well as bad features. It is essential making this evaluation only on the 5th phase, not earlier. Or else, you might obtain stuck concentrating on your rivals' websites as well as it will be simply difficult to discover advantages and downsides of your very own restaurant. So assess your rivals just after fully examining yourself. 6. Produce web content. Material includes, to name a few points, all sort of texts, video clips, images, appears, as well as computer animations putting on the web site. All this should be developed based upon a distinguishing characteristic of the facility from the steps 2 and also 3. By seeing your internet site, the globe is going to learn that you are. So inform people your tale, intrigue them with your unique food (but not prices), reveal them your superfine chef and chef group. If you have a dining establishment that supply creative cuisine, hire a specialist food professional photographer to take some images of one of the most extraordinary recipes. After all, images are the first thing individuals take notice of when going into a restaurant site. If the dining establishment can boast its spectacular views to bordering plains as well as hills of Italy, make a few speed scenic shots of sundown as well as sunup from the home window of the restaurant, submit a 360-degree video clip, and all that. Video clip of cooking process on the history can likewise include exhilaration as well as immerse users right into the experienced craft of a cooking team. The best dining establishment internet site, whether it is a pizza website or Japanese dining establishment web site, implies an absence of the photo gallery in itself - an individual recognizes just how cool the facility is even without it. 7. Style the areas of the web site. There are 8 crucial elements of a restaurant site: 8. Evaluation the structure of the web site and also comprehend which sections might be left out or included. The 8 aspects explained over are standard however not obligatory. If the restaurant does not host occasions, exclude an event map from the list. You may additionally abandon the picture library with a peace of mind. Does your dining establishment have its very own ranch? Include a page about it. Is your chef a superior individual? Present him or her to your site visitors. Also, if the restaurant allows company events, wedding events, or b-days, it is important making a separate page for this details. The business language of this page must absolutely differ from the casual language of the website itself. As opposed to talking consumer's language there, make use of an official language of occasion supervisor. Just what is the eating location of the restaurant? Are there a projector, sound system, children's space, babysitter? Is it possible to close an auto parking for party guests? In addition, it is desirable to include a contact of an individual responsible for company occasions: an international phone number, individual image, e-mail, and so forth. 9. Send out the web content to designers as well as programmers, they will shape the site. Right here is one of the most essential component - the birth of your future internet site for dining establishment. Do not fail to remember to consist of social sharing switches (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) to private pieces of web content. For instance, let users share their preferred items from your menu or share your most current post. Besides paying very close attention to aesthetically appealing layouts as well as alleviate to utilize, do not forget to adjust your website for mobile phones. Responsive website design adjusts to any kind of display size as well as resolution consisting of any kind of smart phones that might be launched in the future. According to a Google research study, 60% of local searches on mobile exchange acquiring clients within the hour. Starbucks, the latte-shining titan, estimated that 16% of all United States transactions are made through smart phones. That is over 7 million mobile settlements each week! Just what's even more, the variety of mobile payments made at Starbucks' shop is expanding by practically HALF every year. As a matter of fact, the latest surveys revealed that individuals are most likely to browse from mobile devices compared to desktops (58% for mobile, 42% for desktop). Adapting to the tv is currently triggering a lot of problems also to world's top dining establishments. So see to it that your dining establishment web site looks terrific on at least 3 screen resolutions (mobiles, lite-version of tablets, as well as full-version of desktops), lots fast, and does not have finger scrolling obstacles. Frequently, people are looking for areas to eat on the run, so if your lovely dining establishment web site is not mobile-friendly, you instantly shed a large piece of your target market. Bear in mind, hungry customers are mobile. 10. Update the info. One last word - remember to upgrade your site info consistently. Rejuvenate images, food selection, and also event map and also make sure that the information is current as well as appropriate. If you do not host regular occasions, it is better to leave some free space for new menu banners as opposed to establishing a separate web page on the site. I obtain it, it requires time to update your site, time that is usually spent planning for the following corporate occasion as well as getting new bar feces. However one of the most prominent areas I've seen appear to take wonderful satisfaction in having a constantly-updated website or at least periodically upgraded social media sites or event map. Bear in mind that non-updatable news or occasion pages are much worse than their lack. There is nothing more ridiculous than to check out a web site in April and also to see that the latest updated news there was "Satisfied Brand-new Year!" The first point a customer will probably think of would certainly be "Are these men still active?" Just how much Does the Best Dining Establishment Internet Site Expense? Developing a first-rate website includes a lot of service concepting phase, producing ideal video and also photo materials, writing web content. The website design need to be 100% custom-made and consist of have a best mobile version - the portion of mobile traffic of dining establishment sites is generally around 30%-50%. The top quality of website and also animations must be additionally world-class: you can't manage to reduce costs on any of these aspects if you desire the website to mirror the essence of your brand. From my experience, developing a first-rate internet site takes 3-4 months for a team of a designer as well as programmer to achieve the task, and also entails a work of various other professionals like marketing planner, copywriter, UX engineer. Being made in the United States the site of an acclaimed level can cost you $150,000 - $200,000. Though, you can get a job of the same level for a much more decent price collaborating with dining establishment web design business in Eastern Europe, which proved to have a high taste for design. For a budget of $30,000-$35,000 you might get a piece of electronic magic that will certainly leave your competitors far behind.

Usage extensive language when resolving to a certain target market. Individuals will value it, be sure. 5.
