So, Querl Dox is also known as Brainiac 5, he is the great-great grandson of Brainiac. You can read about him in Legion of Super-Heroes, and he also makes appearances in Superman comics from time to time. He has had a lot of variation and reboots as a character with altering origins, so to keep things simple I am going to refer to the Post-Zero Hour version because he is my favorite fucked up little guy.

As for what his mother did... well...

Legion of Super-Heroes (1989) #108

The basic version is she abandoned Querl seconds after giving birth to him, which would not have been such a big deal if Querl wasn't immediately thrust into a system of extreme abuse and ableism where his autonomy and freedom was under constant duress as a commodity.

Querl being abandoned in that way, with no support system, and being raised in a loveless environment, gave him extreme trauma.

Querl always wondered where she was, and his heart yearned for his mother because he had no answers why she left him. The comic is pretty blatant in informing that reader that when Querl was born, he experienced deep love for his mother who felt nothing for him, and then left. It haunted Querl for a long, long time.

Then it was revealed later that she was one of their primary villains and she tried to murder Querl - not because he was in her way, not because of some greater agenda, but to feel.

She had discovered through her villainy that murdering people made her capable of feeling. The reason why is because of a deal Vril Dox II and Neron made over a thousand years prior, but that's something else entirely.

TLDR: She had Querl because she thought being a mother might make her feel something, it didn't, so she abandoned him with no plan or support system, then turned to a life of murder then tried to murder him for thrills and it was all because of a demon from a thousand years ago and no one figures that out and only eagle-eyed comic readers figured out as well.

Danny messed up...

During a fight in the zone he accidentally went through a random natural portal that closed once he went through and he's been looking for a way back ever since.

While looking he's come into contact with a colourful bunch of people who call themselves the legion of superheroes.

It appears they are a collective of heroes from all kinds of planets working together to help all over the universe.

Despite the whole; several heroes his age thing and, the aliens thing, Danny can't really enjoy the experience because they were also the ones to tell Danny that time travel is illegal, so they can't really be of any help.

And Danny might be a little more stuck than he originally thought.

The situation is getting somewhat worrying, he's not gonna lie...

But! He did get introduced to this Brainy guy and maybe, just maybe, if he's nice enough or something, he can convince him to make a portal back into the realms anyway.

Meanwhile Querl has now met someone who can emotionally read him completely.

It's a surreal experience to have someone around him who just knows how he's feeling without him having to explain himself.

Now if only Phantom had a higher level of intelligence and they could have some really interesting debates...

Alas, can't have everything. Too bad.

Still, Phantom's stories about this 'Infinite Realm' place sounds absolutely fascinating.

And it just so seems to be that the ghostly hero has blueprints for the construction of a gateway to the place on his absolutely archaic communication device.

"Phantom, allow me to have a look at those blueprints you mentioned."

Querl already holds out his hand to accept the device from Danny without waiting to hear if he'll accept or not.

Danny can see some of the people around them giving him an apologetic look, probably figuring Danny would find Querl to be rude.

And maybe Danny would, if he couldn't feel the curiosity pouring off of him.

So before anyone can say anything Danny chirps, "sure! Here you go."

And hands him his phone.

As Querl pours over the data, Danny internally figures that its now only a matter of time until he's back home.

There's a lot of GOOD suggestions for a ship name, but I think I really like Brainflash.

Querl being able to think 12 separate independent thoughts at the same time meets Bart who can think 12000 thoughts in the space of one second and both get irritated at the same things; everyone else is too slow.
