Does your OC find it easy to resist temptation? Are they always strong-willed and abstinent? Or does it depend upon the nature of the temptation in question?

Mimble is not one for self-denial when it comes to things he likes - especially in the eating and sleeping departments - but he is not necessarily avaricious, since he would always rather share than see others go without. If anything he believes that indulgence in small pleasures is very much what makes life worth living and wishes for everyone to have access to as many treats and frivolities as possible.

However, when faced with temptations of greater significance, such as those around control and power, Mimble has shown a studied lack of interest in exerting domination over others.

For U’lohi

Does your OC's body language sometimes give away what they might prefer to conceal? Or are they practiced at ensuring that their physical presentation matches their stated positions?

Lohi is a VERY physical speaker, so his body language is important to clock. Oftentimes, yes, his body language will give away certain things he'd prefer to keep hidden. Thancred's gotten very good at reading him in particular nowadays.

There are times and places where he will make a conscious effort to control it, like in meetings with the Grand Company of Eorzea. But if he feels strongly enough about something, no amount of restraint will be able to hide his thoughts on the matter.

I honestly think that's why he's the most fun for me to pose in MSQ situations. Things like this I could not have squeezed out of pragmatic Ki'to, and Eros generally only speaks with his face.

What is your favourite depiction of romance (or sex if you prefer) that you have produced? Or if you haven't produced one yet, then what is your favourite example from another creator?

my favorite romantic moment i've written is in this shb era fic, which was a response to the prompt "a touch because you are dying." it's set right before the scions go to face the shb Big Bad and it's a v important moment in the Corishtola romance that i think is also a good distillation of their whole romantic arc up to that point. they both are in love, and they care about each other so much, but cori is in pain and is doing their best to hide it from y'shtola. but y'shtola can see it anyway! and is the only one that really can see the depth of it. it's a more literal manifestation of cori's grief since the vault keeping them apart romantically.

also i just love that cori looks literally like a monster to y'shtola but she reaches out to them anyway, and it's the first time she really does that. and her promise to stand with them through anything feels like an i love you, and tbh is more important for them to hear in that moment!

Does your OC have a large collection of shoes and footwear? Or do they have just one pair of servicable boots? Do they have different footwear for different occasions? Do they have a favourite pair?

What is something that your OCs partner, lover or friends are scheming to get them to wear one day? What is their motivation? Are they likely to succeed?

Johnny does own a lot of footwear, as he owns a lot of clothes in general! It can be separated into two very distinct categories: work boots, of which he always owns two pair at any given time and replaces them only as they wear out, and then the large array of various dress shoes for the outfits Tataru makes. He grew up in a mining town, and so was taught from a young age that good boots were critically important. Were he not married to the head seamstress of Tataru Taru's boutique, the work boots would likely be his only articles of footwear.

Speaking of that head seamstress, she is constantly thinking up new outfits to dress up her husband with! She's able to get him to wear pretty much anything under the guise of experimentation for the boutique, but there definitely are some styles that require scheming on her part if she wants him to wear them out of the house. Johnny usually prefers durable travel clothes that are easy to move around in, so it usually requires a specific occasion if Tataru wants to get him into formal attire. Planning those occasions is never too much trouble though, which is good since she's of the opinion that he cleans up pretty well :)

How confident is your OC at writing? Do they regularly write letters or even academic papers? Or is their writing stilted, awkward - or even a source of embarassment to them?

i really had to think on this one!! sumire is soft spoken, and not going to be the first to speak up, so i generally know how she's react verbally, i really wasn't sure about writing.

i wouldn't say it's an embarrassment for her, but i don't think it's the thing she excels at. i think she's just generally indifferent to it - she's definitely not writing academic papers, but she writes letters every so often. she won't seek out writing to someone when she could speak to them in person instead, but if she also isn't actively avoiding writing. it's just not her first choice, at least for communication.

If your OC is in a relationship then what do they suspect they do that most annoys their partner? Are they correct in this belief? If they are single then what do they worry might annoy a prospective partner?

Helvi has always been low-key worried her renown and duties, and lack of time might be a little too much for her partner to bear. Being a Hero Who Saves All Nations means she's often needed in every corner of the world and being God's Favourite Plaything means she goes where they cannot follow (remember how Haurchefant had to be restrained when she went off to fight Shiva?), and her exploits seem too grand to be real and may overwhelm everyone who hears about them, and, and...

Is she correct, though? Despite all his concerns, Haurchefant was her most enthusiastic cheerleader and in his eyes, everything she did was SPLENDID - but what would he say if he witnessed her being called to other worlds to face even more unimaginable dangers? She'll never know. And X'rhun is too much of a "cat who walked by himself" to call her out on her frequent absence, and understanding enough to listen to her vent out, and also clever enough to spirit her away every now and then, and steal a few sweet moments only for themselves.

Perhaps in the end it is she who's the most annoyed with herself.

Shortly after arriving in The First, The Crystal Exarch tactfully suggested Mimble explore alternative wardrobe options, as the sight of a shining white figure was understandably causing mass panic amongst the people of Lakeland. Mimble was a little disconsolate about having to temporarily forgo his normal white attire, but did consent to wearing a loose ensemble in dull black for a time, as befitting the Warrior of Darkness. At least around the civilians of Lakeland and The Crystarium.

In the world of romance, I actually don't really think there's a lot that Nomin and Estinien actively think about consciously in their day-to-day. I believe it's more when it's in their face that, like, it's a reminder that like, "oh, right. Romance is a thing isn't it..."

I'm talking, like, streets decorated for Valentione's; the prevalent scent of chocolate and baked goods permeating the air for the holiday, banners of the celebratory colors (red, pink, white, gold), themed stuffed toys at the local toy shop and weaver's, etc. Otherwise, it's just another day on the island or travel. Haha.

In any case, Nomin starts going out of her way to learn traditional recipes from Coerthas for Estinien's sake. She even speaks with Alberic to learn what meals he remembers Estinien likes or was fond of so that she can learn how to make them and give something to Estinien that she can readily prepare. She also has plans of learning all she can about Ferndale and what it looked like before the Calamity -- trying her damnedest to control her Echo so that she can see it and later paint it for him. She wants to give him comforts of his youth because they were such a driving force for him, that she wants him to have something comforting and nostalgic because she loves him.

When it comes to how I see Estinien engaging in romance and romantic gestures toward Nomin, definitely going out of his way to learn about Nomin's scale-care and sitting down with her to aid where he can. Bringing back seeds from places he's been because he knows Nomin would be interested in them. Even going out of his way to bring Nomin to a place where he found the natural beauty striking that he would want to share it with her -- even being considerate enough to bring her painting supplies.

I believe they are both very observant, perceptive, and considerate enough of one another, that they pick up on each other's habits and interests very easily to go out of their way for one another. Though they do not actively think about romance, or the exaggerated ideas of romance, they are very, very romantic when it comes to just thinking about one another to give gifts, acts of service, and other parts of the five languages of love to one another.

the character everyone gets wrong (I didn’t know what a lot of the other questions meant sorry!)

Ummmm… well, if you know what my other ship for my other WoL is, then you’ll know who I’m about to say…

((To my fellow Zenos enjoyers, I love you all and I give you all headpats!))

I swear, I think the vast majority of players just don’t get Zenos. I have seen such bad takes over the years that it really gets to me. It’s probably why I didn’t consider shipping with him for such a long time, because so many people just… don’t understand him.

Now I’m not here to say that you MUST like him as a character. I absolutely understand if you just don’t like him and/or you don’t really care about him either way. Zenos has plenty of enjoyers out there so I’m not here to sway you over enjoyment of his character.

HOWEVER… what I will say is that I have pondered this question many times before:

“How many people say they either don’t care or outright hate Zenos because they don’t understand his character?”

Before this turns into a full blown essay, because really I could write one, all I’ll say is this:

If you think he’s a one dimensional character that didn’t have a character arc, then I’m here to say that you misunderstood Zenos. Simple as that.

Obviously many of these things have different symbolic meanings in different cultures and have had different associations at different points in history - this list is intended more for diversion than serious historical analysis.

End of the Year Asks!

man, where do i even start? like, yein is an amazing character, sparrow's gposes are amazing, and i got to read a number of iron-sparrow's entries for ffxiv write this year.

i am so glad i took the time to read what i could (and i still have tabs for entries i've yet to read from a number of people; including several of sparrow's i've yet to fully get into). like...the raw passion and romance of sparrow's writing i've read so far is so incredibly intimate and...hungry. and i'd like to think that's a high form of compliment, because that's such an emotion i'd like to get out of how intimate the writings i've read from them feel to me. the hunger to be with someone -- to love them, to hold them, to taste them.

like, i strongly, strongly implore people to see iron-sparrow's writing. you think their gpose is good? their writing is just as much. do not miss out on it.
