Understanding the 3 Types of Sigils

Sigils are one of the most versatile tools in witchcraft, acting as symbols infused with your intention and energy. What makes sigils so effective is their adaptability, you can choose how to work with them based on your goals and needs. When deciding how to use a sigil, it’s helpful to understand the three main types: destructible, temporary, and permanent. Each type serves a unique purpose and adds a layer of magickal flexibility to your practice. 

Destructible Sigils 🕯 

Definition: These sigils are created with the intention of being destroyed, often as part of the activation process. 

Purpose: Used for immediate, transformative, or highly specific goals. The act of destruction releases the energy. 

Examples of Use:  

⟡ Burn a sigil for quick manifestation. 

⟡ Bury a sigil to symbolize letting go of something. 

How-To: Draw the sigil on paper, charge it with your intent, and destroy it by burning, tearing, or submerging it in water. 

Tip: This method is great for goals where you want to release energy into the universe quickly. 

Temporary Sigils ✿ 

Definition: These sigils exist for a short time and are erased, washed away, or allowed to fade naturally. 

Purpose: Ideal for ongoing but temporary needs, like a daily boost of confidence or protection during a specific event. 

Examples of Use:  

⟡ Draw a sigil on your skin with makeup or henna. 

⟡ Sketch a sigil in sand or dirt before a ritual. 

⟡ Write a sigil in chalk on your door for short-term protection. 

How-To: Use materials that naturally wear off (chalk, marker, or skin-safe paint). Focus on charging the sigil when you draw it. 

Tip: These sigils are perfect for quick and discreet magick, as they’re easy to create and remove. 

Permanent Sigils 𓃠 

Definition: These sigils are created with the intention of lasting indefinitely. They are charged to continuously radiate energy over time. 

Purpose: Used for long-term goals or intentions, such as protection, abundance, or anchoring a space with positive energy. 

Examples of Use:  

⟡ Draw a sigil onto a piece of jewelry or altar tool. 

⟡ Paint or carve a sigil on a doorframe for home protection. 

How-To: Choose a durable medium (wood, stone, metal) Ensure the sigil is charged and activated with care. 

Tip: Permanent sigils require deep thought and a strong intention, as their energy is meant to be constant and enduring. 

 ⛥ No matter which type of sigil you choose, remember that their power comes from the energy and intention you infuse into them. Whether you’re releasing energy through destruction, working with short-term goals, or embedding your magick into something permanent, sigils can adapt to your needs and bring your intentions to life. ⛥

Dropping the latest Sketch-a-Wish voted on by my lovely Patreons for July! Fourth Wing (by @rebeccayarros) making a quick reappearance as we reset our author list for Sketch-a-Wish! This time featuring a sparring scene between Violet and Xaden as the former snatches daggers away from the latter. This was such an odd perspective angle to tackle, I was chastising Past-Rosie for considering this a good idea throughout the entire process. But we got to the end! i feel like thats so raven rn cause i see that mf vision, my darling. he is so freaky himself that it only makes sense to find someone to match the freak just in a different font. fellow slushies, recently hamzahs been in his art boy era and on the patreon bts he showed his little routine of sitting in the corner of his room and listening to true crime while sketching and i cant help but iMAGINE:

"what would you say your favourite type of pattern was?" he asks you from his desk. "that's private informa-"

"baby."

"hmm i always love a good checkered moment. stripes are always fun." you respond from his bed which you lay upon with your current read and your headphones. "so which one?"

...

"flowers."

"heh." he chuckles because he already knew you weren't gonna say either of the other choices you gave before. "thank you, baby." "anything for you."

about 45 minutes later he stands from his desk picking up his sketchbook which catches your attention. "can i show you what i drew?" "please." you take your headphones up and sit up. "here." he turns his sketchbook towards you in his hands.

"oh my god, hamzah." you put your hand over your mouth.

its a drawing of you but not ONLY is it of you physically, its of you spiritually. hes drawn flowers all around you in your favourite wacky colour combos. your drawn hair is just as funky and styled as your own real hair, he's added these small details and more to show you how much he loves you because to be loved is to be seen. he loves everything about you in such a caring way that you start to actually feel a little emotional over it and start to tear up over how special this moment is to you.

but hamzah doesnt know that. he's only reading your face. and you look scared.

"DAMN ITS THAT BAD?!" hamzah yells out while turning the notebook back to him in a panic to make sure he's showing you the right photo. when he turns the notebook you catch a quick glance at his drawing of martin and now the moment is over.

Good Omens graphic novel update: December 2024

We promised a graphic novel treat for December to send off 2024, which we have at the end of the update, so let's dive in!

Colleen has been working diligently ahead of the graphic novel going to print next month, which she discussed over on Patreon. For those looking for more behind the scenes on both Good Omens and Colleen's work more broadly, we recommend either following her Substack, or subscribing via Patreon, as she approaches the finish line.

A snapshot from our production HQ where dummy books of the graphic novel, slipcase and other editions of Good Omens have been arriving thick and fast. The graphic novel (slipcased version shown) has quite the heft to it. It's going to be such a magnificent object inside and out.

Here, we're testing out the various papers, finishes, embellishments and more – everything is falling into place!

Merch-wise, some more delights. The A.Z. Fell & Co tote bag design is in, one side in celebration of our favourite angelic bookseller, the other as if it's been purchased from the bookshop itself, so you can take your pick.

We've got more pins that will be available in the 3-pin set add ons. While the full list will be available in 2025, we're happy to share a few more to get excited about:

Good Omens: You Get...Stuff Like This

In the most recent Good Omens update at the Kickstarter, a few people got upset at the suggestion that you have to get past my paywall here to see Good Omens updates.

Except you really don't, and the post doesn't actually say you do. You get a bit more, like pics of my studio, a discussion of tools and process - but not all of that is exclusively about Good Omens.

I think the Dunmanifestin team just wanted to draw a little attention to my blogs and other works, for which I am very grateful.

As my Patreon supporters already know, Good Omens info posted here gets to the Substack and Kickstarter eventually. And since most of my posts here aren't just about Good Omens, but my other projects and personal stuff, as well as links to our weekly Virtual Art Studio sessions, I think I'm justified in keeping that material behind a paywall.

In fact, I don't think I've posted much stuff about Good Omens since the summer: pages of flats like the one you see above, a few studio photos, and color tweaks.

Also, me boo-hooing about my nerves and health.

But for those who feel left out missing even this small amount of stuff, then the screen shot above is for you.

That's called a flat.

It's a prelim color before adding final color.

Here's what the final color looks like.

So I've posted a handful of this sort of thing since this summer, but frankly, there's even more of my sketches and so on posted at my Instagram that aren't here at all.

For those who don't know, I am doing most of the color myself on the book, but I am working with assistants. I'm not sure how much the Dunmanifestin team wants out there before the big reveals, but here's a snippet of a sky.

Here, I've done a repaint. Sometimes I do very extensive repaints after the assistant works on a page. Sometimes not so much. I didn't use assistants on many pages at all. About 80% of the labor on the color of the book is my work.

However, the assistants have been a big help, and I am very appreciative of them.

I will make a point to go through all my prior posts and get every single bit of art that you haven't seen and make it public for all of you in the coming weeks. I need to excise it from previous posts. As I respect the privacy of all my readers, I never make prior posts public without their permission as they may not want their comments or identities to be public.

I’m always way more hesitant to post sketches than finished pieces, but I really liked how this little throuple came out!

These are a few more of my original characters.

Riley is the one sleeping in the first image. Rowan is holding her, and bringing up the back, we have Kade.

Rowan and Kade are werewolves who happen to meet Riley on a supernatural dating app—The Knot.

From the get-go, Kade and Rowan are very upfront about what they are, but Riley just thinks they’re two really hot dudes who are way too into cosplay—and honestly, that’s kinda hot in itself.

Not that Riley would ever admit that.

Rowan is the tall, broody, and calm sort. He thrives on order and routine, but only when he has a goal or a project. He’s often the voice of reason between himself and Kade, keeping the younger man in check—most of the time. Rowan is a big-time planner—the kind of guy who checks the menu before making a reservation to be sure there’s something for everyone. He’s also the type to read Riley’s profile three times, just to make sure he’s memorized her coffee order... even though it’s obvious from her photos she prefers energy drinks.

Kade is... a golden retriever. He’s all sunshine, warmth, easy smiles, and quick affection. He teases and jokes often but is always careful never to cross into cruelty. He’s a ball of energy who channels his chaos into working out—even though he still requires at least two walks a day. He’s spontaneous and flirtatious, usually the first one to “accidentally” send a shirtless selfie in the group chat, followed by about a thousand wolf memes. (MoonMoon is one of his favorites.)

As for Riley… I’m not sure if I want to reveal too much about her yet. I’m still deciding what I want to do with this story. All I know is—I want to do something.

I can EXTREMELY tell that Cynder is my blorbo because the instant I got paid I basically finished this all in a dreamlike haze over the course of like 13-ish hours lmao I think it turned out super cute, I'm so happy with it!!

Sorry about this, I know people are probably Sick of seeing non-comic posts from me on here. I might clean up the blog later.

Opening commissions 💖 I know I said I'd never open commissions again but I've run into some issues

Went to the vet today for a checkup of both my cats and it cost £95. So I'm lacking in the money department atm 😭

Also - I was told that my cats have been losing weight (unsure of the cause) so I have to go to the vet *again* on the 17th to get bloodwork done and I'm unsure how much that appointment will be. Dreading finding out. It would be affordable it it were just one of my cats, I need help cuz its Both of them at the same time.

The cats aren't the only ones either - my own health has been acting up lately so I have to go to the doctors too .. mine's free though 🙏

For now I just need some extra money to help me till I next get paid (in a week) - I gotta buy some cat litter and cat food which is fine, the issue is it won't leave me much for *myself* to eat.

Simple + quick doodles like this will be £7.50 GBP (pricing cheap stuff is hard, cause PayPal fees are a bitch)

“It’s our last night on Earth,” Crowley says, voice wrung together in chapped, rusted parts. “Six thousand years of this. Of never– of not getting to– *eurgh!”* Uncaring of the styling, Crowley runs frantic hands through his hair, mussing it up in tight, torturous fists. “Six thousand years. And it’s a bloody *photograph* that does us in.” 

His eyes are golden, molten in the warm, ambient light. The pulse at his long, taut neck is fluttering like a trapped bird, the skin there thin, delicate. “Hm,” Aziraphale says distractedly, without thinking too much of it. “I’d always thought it would’ve been what we’d got up to at Job’s.”

Crowley zeroes in on Aziraphale, at that point. All of this has been musings to himself, of attacks towards nobody in particular. Perhaps God. Most likely God. But now he’s not looking at God, and he’s looking at Aziraphale instead. It sets Aziraphale on edge, prickles the angelic sense at the back of his neck. It quickens his pulse, settles the heat of his body decidedly southward. But more than that, perhaps most of all; it makes Aziraphale be as reminded of Crowley’s human body as he is of his own, at this exact moment. 

The demon takes a step forward. Aziraphale, a stuttered step back. His fingers are curled into the top of his opposite sleeve, tips brushing the edge of the polaroid he’d nearly grabbed.

“Calm down, Crowley,” he says waveringly. 

“Calm *down?*” Crowley repeats quietly, dangerously. He’s looking Aziraphale in the eye, now. He’s looking nowhere else. 

Another step. Forward, back. Aziraphale licks his lips. 

“It’s all going to be alright, my dear boy,” he tries. He clears his throat, shifts his fingers further into his sleeve. “You see–”

He’s cut off. Quick as a flash, Crowley’s gripping him around the shoulders, shoves him back so his arse is pressed to the lip of the vanity, the lit-up mirror alighting him from behind. Aziraphale’s arms draw up around the demon’s shoulders in surprise. There’s nowhere else to go, no more steps to take. The look in Crowley’s eye speaks of a hunger all-too-familiar to Aziraphale. Reminiscent of meat, of basements, of languishing drunkenly at the end of another man’s Earth. Behind Crowley’s head, Aziraphale has the photograph clenched in one hand. 

“Crowley,” Aziraphale whispers. 

“Don’t–” Crowley’s expression is fierce, desperate. “Don’t say *anything–*” 

Aziraphale opens his mouth to say something else.

*“Angel.”* Crowley makes a desperate sort of sound, and then their lips are pressed together, and Aziraphale freezes altogether.

Sylphiel

My first Sylphiel fanart! Really wanted to draw him for a while now, and oh boy did it take me long to finish this. The total time I took drawing this piece was almost 8 hours scattered across several days.

More below the cut!

You might have noticed that Syl looks a lot different from his official design by Jakei, and that’s because I took the liberty to draw my own interpretation of this character (aka headcanons)!

Sylphiel, up to the time that I’m writing this post, has only been drawn in black and white, sketches/doodles and comic pages, with no separate ref sheet or a page dedicated to showing his features (he hasn’t had a single line of dialog yet). So I decided to make his hair a mix of black with white highlights.

For the eyes, black iris with white, cross shaped (or + shaped) pupils, I think this kind of eyes are the prettiest.

Clothing I didn’t change much, extended his hood to cover his shoulders and added a star on the tip of the hood, matching the tail (that I gave him), added more details to his shirt, in which still is sleeveless, pants are pretty much the same. Added a piece of glass to his belt for more diverse detail.

Made the wings more realistic and added a tail with has a star in the tip.

Also since I don’t really like monster designs that resemble humans too much, I also decided to give Syl some spots throughout his body! It’s a pettern that resembles a baby deer coat. Why baby deer especially? No real reason behind it, I just thought it looked cool and cute.

On more thing, I didn’t draw his feet here, but I do imagine him having hoove-like feet, not full blown horse hooves but something similar seen in Imps from Helluva Boss/Hasbin Hotel!

Gonna make some predictions about his personality:

I imagine him to be bold in nature and sassy when the opportunity comes up. But he also can be incredibly gentle when things get serious, teasing but caring. A little bit of a troublemaker and unorganized, but independent on most aspects. He’s also visibly an extrovert and confident but say the right words and he’ll get embarrassed and start stumbling on his words, although he’s quick to make a comeback. When he’s sad or really emotional, he tries to hide or do breathing exercises to try to recompose as quickly as possible, since he doesn’t like crying in front of others he thinks it’s cringe. More specifically, he thinks it’s cringe for him to cry in front of others, it’s fine when other monsters do it.

HEYOOOOO Ya'll! I'm about to head off for bed but wanted to give this quick announcement before I did so:

I will be returning to streaming regularly, starting tomorrow! As seen in the lil sketch of bean Ash there, the streams will be held on TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS at 12pm to 2PM est. Sometimes they may extend past that, sometimes they may end a little early depending on my personal schedule, but you can expect the following from said streams:

-Art Streams: I'll typically work on personal art, brand art, Twitch assets art (like my PNG yapper model and emotes), lore art. and working off my "art debt" from my old Patreon ambitions as it were

-Just Chatting: Exactly on the tin! These will likely be much shorter streams and they will be relatively varied. So far, you can expect me practicing my guitar, a few tier-list + discussion of movies/games/shows, and maybe a few literally just sitting about and chatting. :]

-Gaming Streams: Not yet to be seen since my computer needs an upgrade first, but once I have that you will eventually be able to expect me streaming some games in the future! A lot of them will be games I've been dying to play but never got around to, but sometimes they'll be super chill games to pass the time. uwu

-Watch Parties: Specifically of gaming events (think Nintendo Direct, State of Play, ect) that'll allow co-streaming.

Once I have my schedule art ready to go, you'll be able to see the general outline of what i'll be doing specifically each stream, such as concept design for the next installment of Melon's Adventure, for example, or new lore art for the ARPG baked into the server.

Whatever the case, that's what I got goin' on so far! :> I wanna thank everyone who's joined the community today; the number that popped up literally blew me away, I really appreciate ya'll joining us and I hope to make it a fun stay for ya'll!
