sometimes I'm confused/annoyed by how many people draw out!queer!Dean wearing pink. I get that its about him rejecting traditional/toxic masculinity and not being afraid to explore softness, etc, but...
yall do understand that Dean can be queer, and soft, and non-traditionally masculine, and still wear what he always wears, right?
Idk. when I think "how does comfortable out, queer Dean Winchester dress", I think (on the tame side) of long hair, pride pins/patches/shirts, really dorky t shirts from scooby-doo and stuff, rainbow flannel, badly distressed cutoff jeans, bead bracelets, stacked bracelets in general, pierced ears, simple pendant necklaces, grandmacore jewelry, weird or trashy joke socks.
on the WILD side, I think of those sleeveless tiddy-window turtlenecks, distressed bleached-denim short shorts, flannel tied around his waist, cowboy boots, lipstick, and glittery gold sequin-studded fishnet tights.
ig what im saying is i understand the pink as a metaphor and do think he'd try it. I just dont think it would stick. "gay Dean" is still Dean. he's not going to turn into a head-to-toe pink, Kencore himbo drag queen (Which tbh, some of yall seem to rly like to portray him as). he's going to be the same joke socks, double-cuffed jeans, eating pizza in bed kicking his legs, adhd as fuck, flirty, cowboy kink, Certified Weird Bisexual(tm) Dean Winchester that he's always been.

So I saw that post I reblogged earlier when half asleep and it put this comparison in my head. Not sure if it's interesting or just an odd thought, but I'm gonna share it:
Media that mainly focuses on platonic bonds its entire length only to have the characters go their separate ways at the end with romantic partners? Comes from a similar place as magic stories where at the end the character(s) have to go back to the "real world" or magic dies out.
I'm not saying those stories are never valid or enjoyable, but they're both based to some degree around backwards, formulaic messages about underlying cultural ideas of stereotypical "maturity" and being "grown up". The should-be-obvious flaw is that platonic love isn't inherently lesser or childish in a similar way that wonder and seeing the world as magical aren't inherently childish.
It's not necessary to prioritize finding a romantic partner to be a fulfilled, mature adult. It's not necessary to put aside the silly fun things you enjoy (or turn them into ways to make money) to be a fulfilled, mature adult. In fact, I'd say the idea that you NEED to do either regardless of what you personally want is actively harmful and demoralizing for a lot of people.
So yeah, for Supernatural to finish out in a place where all the big apocalypses and demon/angel meddling stuff is over ... and Sam and Dean still choose each other? Because they don't need romantic partners to be happy and romance does not magically make your life fulfilled?
That's a far better and more subversive message than arbitrarily shoving them both at romantic partners they either barely know or never showed that kind of interest in - because it "has to" end in romance for the characters' stories to not be unfinished/they can't REALLY be happy without it! No.

Sam takes the window seat while Dean always prefers the aisle. It's about what you value most, peace or freedom.

Random thoughts…
So, in 10x07 “Plush”, Sam said that Cas dug up everything he could from Gaza and brought it to the bunker.
So, they sent Cas on a flight to Gaza? Didn’t they have super strict protocol in airports at that time? How’d he get past TSA xray equipment? What does an angel in a human vessel look like through an xray??
Can you imagine a TSA agent waving a metal detector wand at Cas’s?

They straight up couldn't have Cas interacting with demon Dean more than they did on account of the fact Dean would have tried to fuck him.

I love how it takes Cas accidentally stumbling into a case when he's "on vacation", then proceeding to project on and over stab a djinn for him to realize that he needs to be back in the game.
I also love how Cas' whole "vacation" was basically just fishing because Dean once told him that it has good meditative qualities. Like. You wanted time away from Dean, so what do you do? A Dean activity. Because that makes perfect sense.

Imo the best ending to Supernatural would have been to just stop with them alive on a random hunt or them finding jobs and living the life they just wanted or whatever.
And then the story just fucking STOP, because Chuck is not here anymore, so they are no longer part of a story they are finally free. And we could still write and read fanfic about how they live after they won.

I think its absolutely hilarious that Dean and Castiel go through inhuman amounts of trauma over the course of a decade plus, and somehow they still arent the human x angel ship on the show that has gone through the most detrimental mind bending shit. Michael and Adam were literally trapped in hell together alone for over 1000 years and they walked out the other side healthier than Dean and Cas could ever possibly be. Iconic really

in some alternate reality, spn actually ended after s5, with dean living his life without hunting, until in the end, castiel comes back to him because he just missed this little, stubborn human-

Tumblr has taught me two things:
1- There's never enough TMA references
Tumblr media
(Transcript: Holy shit!! Is that a motherfucking TMA reference???)
2- There's a GIF from Supernatural for EVERYTHING
Tumblr media
(Transcript: Misha Collins from Supernatural saying "We have a GIF for that")

I think there's an extent to which every interpretation of the show is biased to some extent. We all watch the same show, sure, but with fifteen years of canon? Where we all have our favorite characters and favorite arcs and we're all going to remember certain parts more prominently? That fundamentally shapes how we interpret it. The fascinating thing about stories is that two people could consume the same show, remember it equally well, and still come out with wildly divergent interpretations of it. In many cases where neither is more objectively true than the other!
This does not, however, mean all interpretations are equally valid.
If we're looking at a canon and someone bases their fundamental understanding of it on something that happens hundreds of times versus someone who bases said understanding on something that happens a bare handful of times?
If we're looking at a canon and someone evaluates a character because of the choices the character makes, the things they say, and the things they do in the show versus someone who bases their evaluation on the character being 'just like X' who is them/someone they know IRL?
If we're looking at a canon and someone bases their interpretation of what is important on season-long arcs all the plot action revolves around versus someone who bases said interpretation on arcs they insist must exist because of throwaway jokes and background details that never drive the action?
If we're looking at a canon and someone bases the way they see the story on things the characters literally do or say on screen versus someone who bases the story they see on what they want to read between the lines as probably happening off-screen because because?
Those are not even on the same planet as equally valid interpretations of the canon, because all of the latter cases are more about pointedly ignoring large portions of the canon or just making something up you wish was the canon. That's fine for fanfic ... but it has very little to do with the show itself.

man nearly everyone but Dean knew that Castiel loved him i swear
Gabriel calls Cas Dean's boy toy, Balthazar calls him "the one in the dirty trench coat who's in love with you", Meg says "he was your boyfriend first", ".. all in a desperate effort to save your boyfriend" from Crowley*, and I know there's more I can't remember.
yeah, they're being dicks and trying to mess with Dean but like- it is actually kinda obvious that Castiel loves Dean. he never really hid that he liked him and rather quickly got attached, he didn't really hide any feelings (maybe because he didn't know he had them a lot of the time), and he shows his care and concern for Dean a lot more than Sam or his other friends, but Dean and Sam just somehow didn't put it together. if Sam noticed, i guess he didn't put any more thought into it beyond that.
oh Dean, you sweet, repressed, clueless man.

In the 2.08 episode insider Jacob says, about the final interaction between Louis and Daniel, that Daniel has kind of become like an annoying little brother to Louis and I don't know where to begin to express how much I love that because the Daniel and Louis friendship is so special to me

You know that it was Dean and Dean alone who cradled Cas' lifeless body in his arms and carried him into that house. You know Sam tried to help but Dean simply would not have it.
You also know they did not show us this because it would have officially canonized Destiel at that very moment without a single word being said.

Castiel once criticized Sam and Dean's habit of picking up wayward orphans and yet he himself became one of those wayward orphans.
