Signup Tutorial - Aufest 2025
This tutorial will walk you through the process of signing up for Aufest 2025, in preparation for signups opening at 0:00 EST on the 24th of May. Note that you cannot sign up when this tutorial is posted, or nominate tags— tag nomination starts at 0:00 EST on the 17th of May. You can, however, suggest freeform (trope and theme and au) tags— freeform tag suggestions are open until 23:59 on the 19th of May! Suggest freeform tags here!
If you've signed up for an Ao3 exchange before, the process is very similar, but there are some key differences for this event that we thought we'd mention.
First off, you decide whether you want to sign up in the all-ages or the 18-plus collection. If you sign up in the all-ages collection you can't post or prompt any e-rated work during the event, and you can't sign up for the 18-plus collection if you're under 18. Each collection will receive a slightly different list of tag goals to aim for during the event, so feel free to consider which tags you want to aim for before you decide! (Unless you are under 18. In which case you have the one option, shooing you to all ages.)
You pick which collection you want to sign up in, and you go to the sign-up button over on the left-hand side.
That will bring you to a page like this!
It looks like a daunting amount of information at first, but once you start filling it out, the logic starts to make sense. Let's start by filling out my emduo request, which will tell other people in the events what kind of gift would be good for me if they want to write me emduo!
So I selected every fandom that I wanted for these characters— you could split it up with each fandom in a separate request, but I intend to request a lot of different characters, so I'm saving space that way. I'm open to every type of gift, so I selected all of the gift types. I included the relationship types I'm open to for each server, with & meaning platonic and / being romantic. (You'll note that one of the tags has DFE on it— that's just a tag-management thing that mods have to do to keep tags from showing up in the wrong fandom! It stands for Disambiguated for Fandom Exchanges and when you see it on a tag you can just ignore it, it's extra letters added to a tag to make it unique so we can use it properly.)
Note that it's a good idea to make sure you're including every server version of a tag you're requesting, if you're requesting multiple servers, so people know for sure that you're okay with writing server-specific characters! You're only able to request tags that are in the tag set, so if you can't find the tag in the drop-down, you can go over to the nomination form and nominate more tags, as long as you're signing up before midnight EST on the 28th. After that point mods are in full game prep mode and can't process any more nominations, unfortunately.
For archive warnings I said that I'm okay with either no archive warnings apply or graphic depictions of violence— so people know that both of them are options— I could get either one, but I don't want major character death. And then in the prompts box I did some likes, I specifically mentioned AUs I like, I did some likes about this ship specifically, and I did a DNW list of things that I don't want in my gift. It's time for part two of a request— the additional tags!
So during the event each team will be trying to hit a total of 400 tags. I go through the list of tags and I decide which ones would be a good fit for a gift for me for this ship! And for that, I could just read the tag set (All ages here, 18-plus here) and copy it into a notepad, but I could also use the handy dandy tag selector spreadsheet that we have repurposed, originally made by firebird. It looks like this. (all ages here, 18 plus here.) [Note that this tutorial was made before freeform tags were selected for this event, so these are not the actual tags we're using, I did a random assortment from battleship last year for this tutorial.]
To use it you make a copy you can edit, and then you go down the list selecting every tag you think would be good for each request you're making. The individual columns are so that you don't necessarily have to untick 400 tick boxes every time you move on to a new ship and go through the whole list over again, you can just go down the list once and think "this tag would be great for desert duo and this will be great for cletho, and this one is for bedrock bros" all at once, sorting the tags into different column and thus different ships. I'm going to sweep through it and select the tags I think would be good for emduo, in column 1.
So as you can see, there's a lot of tags I think would be good for me. Selecting the tags mades them show up in a list over on the right— the first 20 tags go into the first box, and once I go over 20 the column turns blue just to tell me that I hit 20, and and then any extra tags go into the second box! All I have to do is copy and paste this list of tags into Ao3— the first box goes into "additional tags" and the overflow ones go into "optional tags".
Once I copy them into Ao3, my request looks like this!
You can only put 20 tags in the "additional tags" box, but you can go up to 380 in "optional tags" box! These tags are themes, tropes, and a whole list of AUs— I just did a couple here but in my real signup I might have selected a good hundred tags that I think would be good for me during the actual event, especially once I got to the AU part of the list. Feel free to select as many or as few tags as you want!
Now how this works during gameplay is that people don't have to hit all of those tags, they can just give me a gift that includes one of these tags that I listed. But they can also give me a gift that includes other tags I didn't select, if it works for the story! Like for example on the tag selecter page there was the tag "buttons". I didn't select it, but someone might use it in a gift for me, and gain that tag for their team! So as a result, this really means that when you go through the list of tags, it's a very good idea to make sure that if there are any tags you Do Not want, you added them to your DNW so someone doesn't add it in. I just added "stabbing" to mine, just to be sure— I don't want someone to try and hit that tag in a gift for me.
Note that if you're signing up in the 18-plus collection, there is an additional tick box, which looks like this.
This turns on or off e-rated for each request. Explicit is e-rated fic (both gore and NSFW), and and general is everything else! If you are okay with just one, you only select one, and if you are okay with both, you select both. If you are selecting Explicit, it's a good idea to have an additional NSFW likes and NSFW DNW list, cause there are some very varied smut topics in the 18-plus tag list, and there's bound to be at least one thing that you absolutely do not want— and some things you do! So make sure you specify.
One last thing— you'll notice that there's an off-site letter box (optional). That's because the Ao3 box is only 5000 characters, so maybe you have a lot of likes or prompts, or your DNW is very detailed, and you go over that! I didn't need it with this signup, but maybe I went REALLY into detail about scarian— in that case you can host your likes and prompts and rambling about the characters on a letter like a google doc or a tumblr post or a dream width post, and just put the link there! You still have to keep your DNW in the AO3 box, because it needs to be a format that locks and is un-editable after signups close, for modding purposes, but feel free to go into GREAT detail in a letter if you want.
That's my first request, I need three requests for a valid signup, so let's go on to another ship. You know the theory, I just do the same thing over again, but specifically with the tags and mediums that I think would make a good gift for me with this ship in mind.
On QSMP, let's look at codebreakers and etoiles/phil/missa!
So for this one I don't want podfic, and I went through that tag selector list and made a slightly different list of tags! I'm keeping my DNW the same and my general likes list is the same, so I can just copy-paste that down from the first one. Once again, i'm okay with either no archive warnings or graphic depictions of violence, and I gave people a little list of likes to jump off of but I mostly wanted to keep things wide open. You can offer specific prompts if you want, or just a list of likes, or even just a DNW and the list of additional/optional tags that you think would be good for you! Whatever makes sense for you to describe what sort of things would be a good gift for you.
Let's go on to my next request!
And I wanted to make sure I did at least one solo request! These are especially good for artists to use, or people doing shorter works, so I wanted to make sure I requested solo tags as well as relationship tags! The vibes are a bit different because I was thinking of single-character focused work when I was selecting tags. And same as before, I did a list of likes, I did a DNW, and I did a little portion to talk specifically about this character. Because it's a solo request, I mentioned other characters I normally like to see with this character, (because it's often hard to write a fic only about one character), but the focus of a gift given for this request should be just the single character, so I tried to keep that in mind with my character likes.
And there you have it— three requests is a valid signup! I could keep on going and add another request— up to ten requests are allowed in a basic signup.
I can even go beyond that and go into the prompt collection (all ages here, 18 plus here) and add up to 50 more requests there! The prompt collection doesn't close during the event, even, so if we're halfway through gameplay and I go "I forgot to add baghera I need to add baghera immediately", I can go to the prompt collection and add a request for her, as long as she's in the tag set!
So we're all set to go, right? Wait— almost. First off— there is no matching in this exchange, so you don't have to fill out offers. You'll pick for yourself which requests you want to fill, during gameplay— you'll get to look at everyone's requests like the ones you just did, and pick out relationships and tags that look fun for you to make something based on. However, we have to put something in the Ao3 box in the offers section or the signup machine snarls up and doesn't know what to do. I put some kamoji.
And THEN we can hit the submit button.
And now you are signed up on Ao3! You can go back in and edit your signup any time before signups close at midnight EST on the 30th of May, so feel free to tweak your DNW and likes, or add more requests!
And then did you see that instructions text above the text box? There is one more thing.
Mods need to know a little bit more about you to place you properly on a team! What sort of fan work you make, if you make long or short works, how competitive you want to play— this lets us make sure we have balanced teams, as much as possible.
Follow the link in the form to fill this out once your signup is in, or we will have to place you on a team at random.
And NOW you are fully signed up and ready. Let's play battleship!

Demon Junction AC Style
Finally finished working on this. So, funnily enough, this blog was originally meant to be a fun place for randomizing A/nimal C/rossing like villages before I left you know what fandom. So, I decided to complete that idea using my OCs. I've placed them in a list, some being super rare (one instance on the wheel), some being rare (two instances on the wheel), some being somewhat common (three instances on the wheel), and others being common (four instances on the wheel). The locations, house types, trees, and animal types were created together, inspired by the sections in Heaven and Hell, along with just Heaven and Hell themselves, but put into wheels for the ultimate chaotic randomization. You can find them below.
The Wheels
Villager Selector (max six or ten)
Location Selector (one per villager set)
House Type Selector (one per villager set)
Tree Selector (one per villager set)
Animal Type Selector (one per villager set)
Feel free to share your results! I'd love to hear the funny combinations.
Personality Information
Hell
Cool - Keeps a level head in most situations.
Impish - Playful, mischievous, and loves messing with others.
Fashionable - Sticks with the trends with a bold personality.
Prickly - Guarded and slow to make friends or open up.
Hot headed - Easy to anger and notably whiny.
Mature - Knowledgeable and polite to others, if not distant.
Zealous - Hyper and always looking for new excitement.
Evil - Love watching the suffering of others with big schemes.
Heaven
Righteous - A fighter with great enthusiasm who values fairness.
Laid-back - Relaxed and tries to keep everything low pressure.
Courageous - Thrill seekers who adore new and exciting situations.
Tender - Loving sweethearts who are extremely affectionate.
Skittish - Kind individuals who need help getting out of their shells.
Driven - Focused heavily on success, sometimes too much.
Warm - Encourages everyone to have fun and be their best selves.
Adaptable - Difficult to fluster and easily go with the flow.
Note: Characters may be added to the wheel in the future.
Prompts
You all asked for it, so here it is! Prompts you can use to write with the villages you get. Please tag me in your posts!

You know what, I'll bother making this post. It's long overdue.
PSA: Please don't install uBlock Origin rules for Tumblr that use :nth-of-type(), and please remove or fix any you have installed. They can and will hide the wrong things. I'll show you a few alternatives below.
First, an example of how we get here. I've used the uBlock Origin element picker to try to hide the "Get a Domain" sidebar item:
With some different adjustments of the sliders, it gave me these two snippets, one of which targeted a whole bunch of sidebar items, and the other of which selected the right one. Great, right? Read on.
www.tumblr.com##li.g8SYn.IYrO9:nth-of-type(7) www.tumblr.com##.gM9qK > li.g8SYn.IYrO9
As you can see, these both target a particular kind of sidebar item via "li.g8SYn.IYrO9"—fine—and as you can probably guess, the second one counts them all up and hides the seventh it finds.
This is bad, because what it actually hides depends on exactly how many sidebar items there are! Users can "snooze" Tumblr Live, which will make an item appear or disappear, and users with/without Ad-Free subscriptions will have or not have another. I have seen many, many people accidentally hide their activity, messages, inbox, etc using someone else's rule that's supposed to hide Live. Worse, some rules intended for e.g. recommended post carousels that use nth-of-type translate to something like "hide item number three on the dashboard no matter what it is," which will lead to a seemingly random post on your dashboard disappearing!
This isn't a problem specific to Tumblr, of course—I personally think uBlock Origin should never autogenerate these rules—but Tumblr has a ton of elements that aren't in fixed positions, so I feel comfortable wording that PSA the way I did. On a very static site, those rules might be fine. Here they almost always aren't.
So how do we fix this? First of all, as a developer of XKit Rewritten (check out @addons!), I must suggest you check if it has a feature to do what you want. Plenty of times it won't, though, and if not, we want to make a rule that hides an element based on what it is, not where it is. Here are three ways to make a robust rule:
First, I'll right-click the element I want and use the inspect element tool in my browser's developer tools to look at the element I really want (Firefox and Chrome/Edge/Opera have different but overall similar interfaces for this):
The HTML looks, for reference, like this (Tumblr sucks at code blocks but I'll try):
<li class="IYrO9 g8SYn" title="Get a domain"> <a class="tDT48" href="/domains"> <div class="kn4U3"> <svg> <use href="#managed-icon__earth"></use> </svg> </div> <div class="a132D"> <span class="ZC1wz">Get a domain</span> <!-- other unimportant stuff removed--> </div> </a> </li>
What's something unique about this element, preferably about the outermost element, and preferably contained within the <angle brackets> (HTML tags)? In this case, we have it easy: title="Get a domain" is definitely unambiguous and fulfills all of those three. If you're very familiar with web design using CSS, you'll know how to target that; if you've vaguely heard of CSS, you may be able to look at a reference sheet of CSS selectors, see [attribute=value], and figure it out, and if neither is true, I'll spoil it for you and say that we just put it in square brackets in this case.
So—taking the rule uBlock Origin made, removing the :nth-of-type() and replacing it with our better selector—here's our first working, bug-free uBlock Origin rule:
##li.g8SYn.IYrO9[title="Get a domain"]
Okay, great. But what if we didn't have that attribute to target? What if our top-level element looks the same as the other ones? What if we want this rule to work if we change our Tumblr language to Spanish? Let's move on to :has().
:has() is a CSS selector (supported in uBlock Origin even in browsers where you can't use it for web development yet, i.e. Firefox), that lets you check the contents of an element for whatever is in the parentheses. Let's assume that Tumblr would never make two sidebar items with the same icon, and target that href="#managed-icon__earth" property:
##li.g8SYn.IYrO9:has([href="#managed-icon__earth"])
Yep, that works too!
Finally, what if we couldn't use either of those because we need to target the content of the page that's not contained within the <angle brackets>? We can take a look at the uBlock Origin documentation and find that it has something for that too: :has-text(). You can do very powerful things with this (e.g. you can sort of implement Blacklist entirely using uBlock Origin using something like article:has-text), but it doesn't perform well and can pretty easily be used incorrectly, so I'd suggest you avoid it when possible.
However, let's try using it here to target the "Get a domain" label text:
##li.g8SYn.IYrO9:has-text(Get a domain)
And that also works!
With these techniques, you should be able to target any specific thing you'd want to hide without using any fragile positional selectors. If you're going to share your uBlock Origin rules with others, please make use of this! If you're just using your rules for yourself, then hopefully I've given you enough information so that you can understand what a rule does and decide for yourself if it's worth bothering to fix (menu item order might not change that often, so maybe you're fine with certain rules being a bit prone to breakage; if your rule hides the first post in your timeline you really do need to fix that one!)
-
And, of course, a note for you web developers out there: :has() isn't natively supported in Firefox quite yet, so you can't really use it (I would not recommend using JQuery's simulated version—it's not quite the same). And :has-text() is just not a thing for CSS at all. Just use javascript at that point! Edit: No longer true in 2024; style away!
Final note: any rule with a random 5-character string like g8SYn will eventually break when Tumblr rebuilds its CSS map, though they haven't done that in ages. But when they do: no, it's not "Tumblr devs breaking our rules because they hate us." (Yes, I hear that sentiment a lot in contexts when it almost always makes zero sense.) If you're fairly experienced with CSS you can sometimes make Stylus/uBlock Origin rules that don't reference any, but it's usually convoluted and more trouble than it's worth.

There's a really interesting experimental CSS feature called the :has() selector. It works like this:
You put something in the :has() selector. For example, div:has(p) would search every div container and look to see if it has a paragraph in it.
If the thing has the thing, then it can now format that thing!
This is. A really bad way of explaining it, but it can do a lot of interesting things on AO3; namely, it's used to perma-filter tags using skins, which hasn't been possible up to this point.
Using this feature, I realized that you could, essentially, read a blurb on AO3 (the thing you see that describes a fic when you're searching fics) and format the entire blurb based on whether it contains a specific link - and if you specifically look for the fandom link, you could format every blurb for a specific fandom.
I was messing around with proof of concept using MHA fics earlier, and it works!
(This is a random fic taken from whatever had been posted most recently, and I'm aware it's not very readable - it was proof of concept because I wanted to see if I could get it to work with background images.)
Theoretically, though I didn't create a proof of concept, this could also be used to format what a fic looks like as you read it - so if you read fic in fandom A, maybe it would have a black background with light green text, whereas fandom B would have a pink background with black text. Fics in different fandoms could have different fonts and such too.
Unfortunately, this skin isn't practical for a lot of reasons. One, like I said, the :has() selector is still experimental, and may not work on all browsers or may require special permissions on the browser (and while I have it working on Firefox on my PC I can't get it to work on my phone).
Two, AO3 blurbs are actually super finicky to format, unfortunately - that's not really avoidable, but it does make it a lot harder. That's not to say you can't do it but it's just not easy.
Three, I simply do not have the motivation to carry out a project like this.
And four, and I simply do not understand this, some fics just?? Were not working? I was looking in the MHA tag and theoretically choosing every fic that has the link to the MHA tag, which means every fic I was looking at should have had this formatting, but some of them random weren't getting hit with it. Here's a screenshot from a little earlier than the above proof of concept screenshot was taken, when I was messing with another background, and I have no idea why the second fic looks normal.
But oh my god, in my mind this is such a cool AO3 skin.
had a really cool idea for an AO3 skin today that is, unfortunately, not at all practical to carry out for a number of reasons

Hey guys !!! I hope everyone in this wonderful fandom is doing amazing <3 Recently, my friend and I have come up with a very interesting and fun event that we're hoping you all would like to participate in. We haven't really seen surprise prompts and drabble weeks for Levihan before, so we decided to make one! Also a very fun contest with cool awards too.
Getting straight to the point, the reason why this event is different from an usual prompt week is because we are only going to be focusing on drabbles here. (And also because the prompts won't be predetermined and given to you beforehand)
(Note: this is also open to artists and other content creators. We will be making another post tomorrow explaining how the event works for them. Till then, the writers can continue)
✒ A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful ideas in a confined space. (YeS I stole it from google)
As a writer myself, due to the limited word limit, drabbles can be a bit of a struggle sometimes, and that is primarily the reason why this whole event is also somewhat more of a writing practice (other than the fact that we need to get those numbers on AO3 up haha)
Without wasting much time, let's get straight into the details, and how this is really going to work, what are surprise prompts and the contest and its awards of course.

▶ How long are your entries really supposed to be? Well Google says 100 words but that's way too unfair so your fic should be = to or under 1000 words. The maximum you can go up to is 1500.
▶ Are there any certain prompts/themes these drabbles should be on? Yes, and that's what we are going to talk about next.
▶ And what are surprise prompts? Okay so remember back when in school, your annoying math teacher would take a surprise quiz out of nowhere without informing you? Yeah something like that but its not that bad. Also, its a lot more fun than math.
Basically your prompts will be given to you a day before you need to post them. so its really just a writing practice and there is no pressure, so don't think about the quality or something. This is about scribbling down something quick without a lot of planning.
The prompts are also going to be chosen from an OTP prompt generator, so they are going to be uhm interesting and fun to work.
We have a theme for each day (like angst, fluff etc) and the mods will choose 4 random prompts beforehand for each of these days. At the time of giving the prompts to the participants, we will run a machine to choose one randomly out of the 4. So even the mods don't know what the actual prompt is going to be for the day.

The themes for each day (except Wednesdays and Thursdays, we will get to them later)
Angst Mondays
Trope Tuesdays
Fluff Fridays
Comic Saturdays (this is for the artists, so you can ignore it)
Smut Sundays
Now, here's the challenge (and probably my favorite part about the event) -- The prompts you get are not exclusively going to be in accordance with the themes for each day.
For example, you can definitely get this for Angst Mondays :
Prompt : "Levi having to rescue Hange from a pack of kittens/puppies."
Now its up to you, with the power of levihan on your side, to write an angsty drabble based on this prompt, (okay fine, the prompts probably won't be this off bat but still)
**Exception, : for trope Tuesdays, you won't be getting a prompt but a particular trope like (enemies to lovers, protective levi, caring hange etc)
▶ What time will you exactly get the prompt then? So basically, if Levihan drabble week begins on Tuesday, 25th May, you will getting your trope (prompt for the other days) around Monday afternoon-ish. And you are allowed to post until Tuesday midnight, before Wednesday begins. (Wednesday and Thursday are contest days which we will talk about later, so you don't have to worry about getting another prompt on Tuesday and finishing it on Wednesday itself)
▶How will you get your prompt? And any other details? We'll be making another post later where we will dive deep into the timezone specifics and how you will get the prompt, and what you will tag your posts with so we can see your stuff and reblog it.
You will get the prompt for fluff Friday around Thursday afternoon, and then the writers will have a break as Saturday is for artists. Friday night, you will get the prompt for smut Sunday you will have Saturday as a break in between before posting your smut on Sunday.
The same formula applies to angst Mondays.
1st June, Tuesday, last day of the week will be the prize day. We are gonna talk about the prize day in the next section.

Wednesday and Thursdays (The contest days)
So, first of all, this is optional. If you are participating in the rest of the drabble week, its okay if you leave to opt out of the contest. Similarly, you can also just participate in the contest and not do the other days. It's up to you.
The people participating in the contest would be divided into two groups. There are going to be two winners.
Suppose we have group 1 and group 2, a random participant from each group will be chosen. This chosen participant is called the selector. Its purely luck and a machine that chooses the selector. The selector gets to choose a prompt (from a list the mods will give them) Suppose the said selector is from group 1, then the prompt they chose will be given to group two, and everyone in group two have to write on that. The selector from group two will do the same thing for group 1 members.
All of the preparation for the contest will be done beforehand, and the selectors will be informed before the week begins. The selected prompts will be given to both groups Tuesday night. By Thursday evening their works should be posted.
The word limit for Contest Drabbles can be extended to 3000 words. This is ONLY for the contest.
After all works are submitted by Thursday evening, there will be a voting period which will stretch till 1st June, Tuesday. During this period, group 1 will read group 2's stuff, and group 2 will do the same for group 1. Then they will vote for their favorite fics accordingly, the fic with the maximum votes from both groups wins. The mods will be supervising this, and reading the stuff too.
▶How do we vote? All the details related to voting will also be explained in a different post.
▶What are the awards? Okay, so one thing unique about drabble week is that there are going to be no permanent mods. We will probably have these events rather frequently, and the mods will change for each event. The mods will decide the awards so different awards for different months.
This month, the gifts are :
Well detailed and long comments on 2 chapters of a fic of your choice. These can also be two different one shots if you want.
Beta reading for a few (3-4 chapters) for any fic the winner wants (the other details can be discussed in dms)
The winners will have the opportunity/chance to become mods for the next week, next month. This is also a great way to make new friends and work with them while holding an event!

To participate, PLEASE FILL OUT THIS FORM. The last date to fill in is 20th May, so do it before that. We'll be making another post for the artists soon, posting it tomorrow most likely. You will be constantly updated, so don't worry!
if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. Thank you so much, we will be looking forward for your participation! Much love.

Random AU generator challenge!
Okay so, I’m kind of creatively bored recently, and I thought I’d come up with a kind of writing/art prompt meme/challenge thing. It would be really great if people actually wanted to do this!
How it works
Step one
Easy mode - choose two (or more if you really like) characters you really want to write about
Hard mode - Use a random selector wheel, and stick with whoever it is. I have the ass class fandom in mind for this, which has the ass class characters . You’re free edit out any characters etc.
Step two
Choose your profession for character A. You can use this wheel, or use any kind of generator list. I purposely made it 20 so you can use a D20 if you have one.
Step three
Role/spin again for character B
AND/OR
If you want a strictly canon story, or even more of a challenge, choose your situation
Step four
Choose your trope. You may have multiple of these things happen, but this random trope needs to be there somewhere.
NOTE: Before I get cancelled, if you get a situation that’s gross for the characters to be in for whatever reason, or if you just don’t want a romantic one, just roll again. I was just thinking of very common tropes here.
Step five
Make your final choices. Decide if you’re going romantic, friendship, enemies, whatever. All other characters are free to fulfil whatever role you want them to.
Honestly, if you completely randomise everything the results can get hilarious. Please have fun with it! And feel free to tag me if anyone actually makes one if these!
My first go, I ended up with a soulmates train driver/zookeeper Mimura AU where they win a DDR tournament. So honestly, hours of entertainment.

Comic Give-away/Raffle!!

Howdy, folks!!
Today I’ve got a little surprise for ya’! I happen to have a healthy little collection of Pinky and the Brain comics. All that you see here are doubles of ones I’ve already got -- 11 official comics that Warner Bros. produced, and 1 very special fan-made comic!
Below is a list of all the official comics I’m giving away (in order from top to bottom and from left to right in the first photo):
Issue #3 - 1 copy; released Sep. ‘96 Issue #4 - 1 copy; released Oct. ‘96 Issue #5 - 1 copy; released Nov. 96 Issue #7 - 1 copy; released Jan. ‘97 Issue #8 - 2 copies; released Feb. ‘97 Issue #10 - 1 copy; released Apr. ‘97 Issue #12 - 1 copy; released Jun. ‘97 Issue #17 - 1 copy; released Nov. ‘97 Issue #22 - 1 copy; released May ‘98 Issue #23 - 1 copy; released June ‘98
The special comic is a fan-made release by artist Natsu-Nori, who is probably the best Pinky and the Brain fan artist I know. Her work is astounding -- very adorable and on-model. The comic is a collection of mini stories she did. This is all the way from Japan and was one of the few English versions out there (I basically got what was left), so you’re not gonna get this anywhere else. I have my own copy of this comic, of course, and, yes, it’s awesome.
A closer look at the fan comic:

Now, here’s how the raffle will work (please read carefully):
1. Instructions
Yes, I am giving all of these away. You won’t have to pay a cent for the copy you win. I shall take responsibility for ALL shipping and handling costs.
To qualify for the raffle, please take note:
- You MUST be a Pinky and the Brain and/or Animaniacs fan and leave a comment on this post via your Animaniacs/PatB fan account. Reblogging the post and replying to it DOES NOT count; you must comment on the original post. No exceptions. I should be able to browse through your blog a couple pages back and still see Animaniacs/PatB content. I am not giving these away to just anyone. You’ve gotta be a fan of one or both shows (preferably PatB). This goes for friends of mine, as well. Y’all gotta abide by the same rules, even if I know you’re a ravid Pinky and the Brain fanatic.
- You can only put your name in/comment once. If anyone is caught entering their name in two or more times using multiple accounts, you will be automatically excluded from the raffle. (Please don’t do this, you guys.)
2. Selection Process
This post will remain up for one week. Raffle will end next Tuesday, August 11th, at 11:59 PM PST. Once the time is up, I shall gather all the names submitted and put them into an online Random Name Selector/Picker. I’ll then roll the random generator for each comic, in order of release. One person will get comic #3, another #4, et cetera until I’ve gone through all the comics, including the fan book. If I roll the same person twice, I’ll reroll until I get a different name. Every person will get one comic only, unless less than 12 people enter the raffle, as I have 12 comics total. We’re gonna keep it as fair and square as possible. You cannot request that your name gets put in the generator for a particular issue. It will be a random selection. It’s a mystery as to which issue you’ll end up winning!
3. Winner Announcement
All winners will be announced on Wednesday, August 12th, at 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM PST. Winners will be tagged and sent a message in their inbox. Please note that you must be willing to share your address with me if you win. This can be a personal address, P.O. box, or business address. All personal information will be kept confidential and will not be shared with anyone outside of myself and, quite possibly, my boyfriend who may help with packaging.
-------
Questions and Answers:
a. Who can enter? b. Tumblr users and Animaniacs/Pinky and the Brain fans only.
a. Do you ship internationally? b. Yes! I will ship internationally!
a. If I win, can I have the item shipped to a third party’s address? b. Yes. This is fine. However, once it arrives at said address it’s up to the third party to get it to you. It’s out of my hands at that point.
a. If less than 12 people enter the raffle, how will you determine who gets the extra comics? b. If this happens, I shall allow one person to win up to 2 issues, which will be determined via the random name generator.
a. Do I have to pay any shipping and handling costs? b. Nope! I shall handle all costs. You won’t have to pay a dime if you win.
a. I’m not sure if I qualify as an Animaniacs/PatB fan. Can you help me? b. If you’re unsure if you qualify, please message me privately. We’ll go over any proof you have so as we can determine if you qualify.
a. I’m not a fan, but I want to enter the raffle to win a comic for a friend/family member who is. Does that count? b. I will only allow this IF you can provide proof that your friend/family member is a fan.
a. How obsessed with Pinky and the Brain are you? b. Pretty obsessed....
a. Why the heck are you doing this? This is gonna cost you a lot of money! b. Because. ;)
-------------
If you have any other questions that are not on this list, please message me privately and I will get back to you promptly.
Also, Natsu-Nori, if you see this and you’re uncomfortable with me giving away a copy of your comic, please let me know and I’ll take it down immediately. Since I already have my own copy, I wanted to give another of the copies to another Pinky and the Brain fan who would also appreciate it. As I mentioned earlier in this post, I will not, of course, be profiting off of your work. Everything here I’m giving away for free to fellow fans of the show. Again, though, let me know if this makes you uncomfortable at all!
Happy rafflin’! :)
- Pluto

Ricky/EJ! (For the random trope drabble)
fanfic trope selector
coffee shop au! another trope every ship should have
The coffee shop was six blocks further than EJ actually had to go.
He had found it by chance one day, and even though they were other coffee shops closer to campus, he still came back here almost every day, because other coffee shops didn’t have that adorable barista with curly hair and an infectious smile.
EJ would never flirt with him, of course, mainly because he had no idea how to flirt with boys, but also because he wasn’t even sure if the guy liked men. It was New York, so he figured his chances would have been slightly elevated, but somehow, he never managed to get out more than his order, and his name.
And well, he had even failed at that the first time around.
It was a stupid crush, he was well aware of that, but it was also the first time he had been able to crush on a man and not be terrified of someone finding out.
It wasn’t like his parents were homophobic, they were well travelled and educated, but they hadn’t really been around for a good portion of EJ’s life, and sometimes he thought that they had an entirely different picture of how he was.
At some point he’d have to work up the nerve to actually talk to them, but now that he had been in New York for a couple of months, feeling a little freer and a little less anxious, it didn’t sound as terrifying anymore.
He was on the phone when he entered, and even though EJ was trying to hang up, Carlos wasn’t letting him. The guy was in one of his classes, and in a surprising turn of events EJ and him had gotten along from the beginning.
Sometimes Carlos was a little over the top, even for EJ and that was saying something, but he admired how open the guy was about his sexuality and his general being.
The coffee shop was busy, and EJ lost track of Carlos for a moment as he watched the curly haired man darting around behind the counter, finishing orders and taking new ones.
For a moment their eyes met, and a look of recognition passed over his face, before he gave EJ a smile.
He could feel his heart missing a beat as the queue progressed, and Carlos was repeatedly calling out his name over the phone.
“You’re not even listening to me, are you?” He complained, and EJ snapped back into reality, just in time to practically be able to hear his friend rolling his eyes over the phone.
“I am, I’m just respectfully keeping my mouth shut while I am waiting in line, so I am not annoying the other customers,”
“Okay, since when do you care about that?”
EJ had his eyes on the cute barista again, whose name he had found out to be Ricky. He hadn’t asked him, of course, but that was what it said on the little name tag he wore on his apron. Their eyes locked again for a moment when EJ picked up his order, and he had to will his heartbeat to slow down again.
Once back out on the street he took a deep breath, trying to get back into the conversation with Carlos.
“And then he was saying…” He barely caught the beginning of it, when something else caught his eyes. Instead of his name, there was something else written across the cup, something that made EJ almost drop both the cup and his phone in the process.
Along with a Call me! :) x there was a number written on the cup, and EJ could feel his heartbeat quickening again.
“Oh no,” Carlos then spoke into the phone, though it sounded more like he was talking to someone else, while EJ’s smile had become incredibly bright, “I’ve lost him.”

A simple pokemon sword review
Let it be known I’ve been with these games since Blue and a fan of the series since the episode of “Ash catches a pokemon” first aired on tv. (Also this ran way longer than I thought it would)
Good bits:
Pokecamp- is fun, curry is the most useful pkm food introduced yet
Wild Area- is neat in concept, more on it in cons though. Offline it’s great.
Gyms were fun, missions were basically S/M trials with a leader at the end
Clothing- YES, still could use a lot more (A color selector would be better than the set choices though) but they do give a ton of cool options this time around.
Trainer Cards- Finally letting us design what we share with other trainers, at first thought it was lame till I unlocked some cute extras and started trading them with other trainers.
Stronger Pokemon in Wild Area- I love it, and while they lied again about not being able to encounter a shinny you can’t catch, this is something pokemon has always talked about and finally we see it in the wild.
Two day cares-one in the wild which is nice if you’re shiny grinding or doing raids and the other on a long straight stretch of land right by where you get the bike.
Bad Bits
Story- Oh this seems so over all meh in all the games. Like even team rocket in Gold/Silver had more plot to them. Like we’ve had great bad guys since B/W and boy does it feel like they didn’t even try this time.
Rivals- Hop is everything that was wrong with Hau and made more annoying. Bede could of been great but thanks to middle of the game plot he gets ruined, when he could of been the dick rival we’ve wanted back since R/B. Marnie is the only rival I enjoyed because she actually was well developed. (Hop develops story wise but he’s shit from the get go so you really don’t care)
Wild Area- Playing it online is a slough that rivals launch day server lag from World of Warcraft expansions. Pop in is horrible, things won’t span for multiple seconds when you’re next to them. Trying to do anything other than raids is pointless online due to the lag. Oh and the random weather system is horrible. There’s pokemon that don’t spawn in rain and have a 2% spawn rate in a area that has been nothing but rain since launch for me.
Way less NPC trainers- There’s maybe 10 trainers tops on a route, and only 10 routes in the game. They cut back severely on types as well. Hex Maniacs, Mediums, Jugglers, Bikers, Bird Keepers are the few that came to mind right away as missing.
Post game- man that’s a nice 20 set trainer tower...oh wait no it’s not.
Parts with no music, and needing an item to control sound options
You can’t refight trainers- at least I don’t think you can, maybe you have to find and item or I’m just a dumbass.
Addressing “problems” in the game
Cut dex, yeah no one is happy on it, but because of the weird weather patterns in the Wild you’re not gonna find half the pokemon that ARE IN the game to where trying to even nab them is a pain.
Move cut- You notice this really hard early on. Farm for watts to by TRs to get some real attacks on your low lvl pokemon cause boy is it shit moves till the 30s for most of them. I have yet to find false swipe and I’m worried it’s not in the game.
Animations- I actually can’t say because I turn off battle animations.
Reused trees/ugly areas- GF really dropped the ball on this, while the Wild Area is kind of meh, all non route areas are beautiful. The mushroom forest was my favorite.
Dynamaxing- I used it in raid battles, purposefully didn’t use it in gyms to prove a point to myself. It will quickly be forgotten next gen.
Raid Battles- with others it’s laggy as hell. On your own you can often get random teams with pokemon that are sure to die from the first hit. The candies they give you for winning and the biggest cheese in the game. My togekiss was lvl 89 when I finished the game just cause I threw candies on it so I wouldn’t have to grind on wild pokemon.
Same Models- yep, they plain out lied on that one.
XP share stays on. You can pretty much beat the game without grinding and just fighting every trainer you can and some minimal pokemon catching. I did baby nuzlock rules (no fainting or they’re gone, and only that rule) and was ok without grinding until the 2nd gym. I only lost 5 pokemon the entire game though.
Weird evolution methods-Yawnmask’s new one is so random I don’t even know how we figured it out.
Overall Ratings:
Story: 5/10
New Stuff:7/10
New Pokemon: 7/10
Challenge: 5/10 (no candies used) 2/10 (candies used, high lvl raids do require skill/luck)
Sound: 7/10 for when it’s there, 0/10 for when it’s not.
At the end of the day it’s a basic pokemon game. It’s not as good and past games, but it does scratch the new pokemon itch that Let’s Go didn’t. I hope they go the route of X/Y and don’t do a 2nd version of this and instead start on the next gen with some major revamps and more time taken on it. It lacks polish. The plot of the story is so blah coming off of the past we games bad guys. The “evil team” doesn’t capture the charm that Team Skull gave us or any memorable characters that aren’t a rival. Some of the new pokemon are really cool, but half the cool ones have the most random spawn weather rates in the series. If you like pokemon games, you’re gonna like it fine. It’s a decent sit for it’s price tag. If you do the extra stuff it’s a good sit for the price. I liked it more than I expected, just wish there was a bit more to do in post game.

What is Redux, and should you be using it?

Ever wondered how Instagram gets it right every time with searches and tags? Or how it is that you can add multiple items to cart from different categories on Amazon? The simple answer is Redux, an open-source JavaScript library for application state management and centralization. More than 2,000 companies reportedly use Redux in their tech stacks.
So, what is Redux?
Redux is a lightweight predictable state container designed to help write JavaScript apps that behave consistently across client, server, and native environments and are easy to test. It was created by Dan Abramov and Andrew Clark around six years ago to get “better developer tools support, hot reloading and time travel debugging while [retaining] predictability”.

Advantage JS: Why is JavaScript so popular?
What are regular expressions, and why should you use them?
Although commonly used with libraries such as React (an open-source JavaScript library for building user interfaces and maintained by Meta) or Angular (JavaScript-based open-source framework for building single-page applications and maintained by the house of Google), it can be used with any other JavaScript framework or library to build and maintain apps.
How does Redux work?
Redux is a store to hold the state of the variables in your app. Each component can access any state that it needs from this store, like Amazon’s add-to-cart function. What Redux does is that it creates a process to interact with the store so components will not just update or read the store at random. Redux manages the “state” and allows access by all components in a structured way.
There are three parts to Redux:
Actions: Actions are events, and are the only way data can be sent from an application to the Redux store — through user interactions, API calls, etc.
Store: The store holds the application state and can be accessed, updated, and so on.
Reducers: Reducers are pure functions that take the current state of an application, perform an action, and return a new state.
Why use Redux?
App flexibility
Redux goes directly to the store by using the reducer function and this allows developers to change the state tree of the app every time a new action is dispatched, thus offering a flexible user interface architecture as well.
Uniformity
Problems often arise when a developer doesn’t understand the work done previously. They end up duplicating work by recreating components instead of just making necessary changes to existing code. But with Redux, there are fewer lines of code, and these are more readable and reusable, so you can easily add functions and make changes within the app.
Someone with knowledge of Redux can understand the structure of any Redux application. Redux also makes it easy to debug an application.
Faster communication
Redux is all about effective communication between components. Communication continues uninterrupted, even if internet connectivity is lost, as Redux uses state management for communication between components. It also offers faster performance than its competition. Redux is useful as the application begins to grow, and one needs to keep things predictable and traceable.
Redux, to use or not?
Although Redux is an efficient pattern that promotes pure functions, it may not be the right choice for simple applications that involve only a couple of changes to the user interface. There is also the learning curve to contend with, as developers may find themselves lost initially in the world of selectors, reducers, actions, and middlewares. Some developers do complain that there is a large amount of boilerplate code in every Redux application, which can be overwhelming.
But all in all, Redux allows you to manage your app’s state in a single place and keep changes in your app more predictable and traceable. If you do not have expertise with Redux, work with an expert like CloudNow to use all the latest tech, platforms, and languages in your next Java development project.
