Back From Mysterium

I did a very small couple of posts before this, but Saturday at Mysterium blew my expectations out of the water, and so I decided I needed to circle back around and try again as a much bigger post.
First, foremost, and coolest - yes! I got to meet Rand Miller (bonus infamous RAWA just to the left as well)! Even better, for once in my life my social anxiety didn't turn me into a non-verbal lump and I was able to say a grand total of two full sentences and a greeting. If you know me at all, then you know that that's quite the accomplishment. Usually @timmcosplay has to do the talking for me when I inevitably choke on my own tongue, but by a quirk of fate we got separated (he wanted to get our Book of Ti'ana signed and got yoinked into a different line up from me, who wanted photo evidence) and I had no choice but to attempt to be a functional human. My theory is that I've talked to Rand's face so many times during the intro to Riven (I always talk back) that it was just second nature to say hello the second he looked at me. Genuinely, though, he's so kind and so patient and I'm stoked that he made time to meet all of us and then spend a couple hours even after that being a presenter and answering heaps of questions.

Tim may have not been with me directly, but he was still creeping in the sidelines getting photos of me getting photo'd and briefly chatting. ;)
Ultimately, we were split into three groups and everyone ran through the events of the day in a different order.

Tim and I were on Team Ytram (or Team Forg as I insisted on calling it) and had little Rivenese froggos on our badges.

After the meet and greet, we got lunch. It was simplistic fare, but the fact that we got hot dogs and Cool Ranch Doritos out back of the Cyan HQ means that they were very special hot dogs and Cool Ranch Doritos. Legendary!

And then... they actually allowed my wee goblin self and Tim to go through the iconic archway entrance and to scramble around their actual studio. I've seen pictures of the place on the internet before and knew how neat it would be to some degree, but now I know where everything is!
In no particular order....

Iconic signage and that giant honkin' Moiety dagger that Adam Savage apparently worked on?? It is truly large in person!
Costumes from Riven! Including Catherine's dress, which I remember my mom was always cooing over when I was playing the game on my clonky PC in the late 90's, and Gehn's costume, with Tim posing (and having not totally slightly held up the rest of the group by getting detail shots for cosplay purposes, no, no, he wouldn't do that....)

Art! Design sketches and THE MAP.

The infamous elevator wherein you'd better know your D'ni numbers if you want to get anywhere (I would get stuck).

And then... artifacts!
They had THE LEVER from the beginning of Riven. Did it never occur to me that the lever was a real lever? THE LEVER IS A REAL LEVER.
Plus there were goggles and books and Gehn's gun (AKA the only Game Over inducing object in Riven) and more character design sketches with actual costume fabric swatches! That last bit made Tim make high pitched glee noises, as someone who both designs and makes costumes himself.

There were presentations after all of that. Trailers, talks, a non-profit project to digitize over a hundred hours of behind the scenes footage from the making of Uru and Riven and other things, which we got a sneak peek of. They showed off a snippet of the remake of Riven. There was just so much. It was hours and hours and I was practically vi-bra-ting by the time we finally were ushered back to the bus and back to Spokane.
I will never entirely get over the fact that I was able to go see all that with my own two eyeballs. As someone who's been enamoured with the universe surrounding Myst island for the full 30 years of its existence, ever since I was 8 years old, who used to make big calligraphy posters of passages from The Book of Atrus and The Book of Ti'ana and tape them up all over Thorhild Central School whether my fellow students and teachers wanted me to or not, and who was so solidly influenced by the idea of books as literal doors to other worlds that it became a foundation for how I view my own characters and stories (namely that I'm no god, and they do have a life all their own), this is a treasured memory.

What each Gigabash kaiju we have so far is a reference to and what archetype they fill
Gigabash is an upcoming kaiju fighting game with so far 9 carefully crafted characters. As a kaiju game some may think itâs full of godzilla references, but Gigabash is actually heavily inspired by Ultraman. And this makes sense since Passion Republic Games is a Malaysian company and Iâve heard Ultraman was a big hit over there. So then, what does each kaiju reference?
Gorogong
Gorogong isnât my favorite Gigabash character but I would argue that heâs definitely the best designed. With big arms like red king EX and the mug of guigass, itâs obvious what he references. However Gorogong is distinct enough that he doesnât bear much of a resemblance to either monster that inspired his design, and he also wouldnât look out of place in an Ultraman episode either. Gorogong wears his inspiration on his oversized sleeve but is still very much his own monster, and that is truly great creature design. In the context of a fighting game heâs the brawler.
Pipijurass
Everyoneâs favorite star child who would love McDonaldâs happymeal toys. Heâs on the same boat as Gorogong in that his inspiration is obvious but heâs also distinct from said inspiration. The obvious comparison here is that of Alien Baltan, with the cybernetic claws being the dead giveaway. Although his colors seem inspired by Tiny baltan specifically. Another less obvious reference could be that of alien metron, as they have similar head shapes. Pipijurass is the ranged fighter.
Thundatross
Thundatross is the obligatory giant spiky anime Mech. Sadly thereâs not much to say as I donât know which anime inspired him. Although he does have a cool big sword.
Woolley
Woolley is a bit hard to pin down, but @master-of-gaburincho pointed out he could be based off Booska. Heâs obviously the cute marketable monster, but I donât know any Ultraman monsters he could be inspired by.
Gigaman
An Ultraman inspired piece of media wouldnât be complete without its Ultraman, and thatâs exactly who Gigaman is supposed to be. Heâs a quick fighter with lots of combos. Interestingly, Gigaman in universe has been retired for 8 years and came out of retirement for the kaiju crisis happening when we play. Heâs not as spry as he used to be and heâs not as in shape either. But thatâs okay, itâs about time we had a dad bod ultra.
Skorak
The technical fighter with status effects, Skorak is a fun looking monster who looks like his name could be blorbo and that he could be the kaiju answer to live slug reaction. Interestingly heâs actually very intelligent and wants to conquer everyone (implied by the titles of his skins) and eat weaker titans. Weâve gotten an overlord slugulon monster in ultra media before too, albeit in the form of the way more lovecraftian Gatanothor.
Rohanna
Rohanna is obviously meant to fill the benevolent force of nature archetype in kaiju media like Mothra. And like Mothra she has dedicated followers. As a game character sheâs the character that summons minions, thankfully though sheâs not reliant on it.
Kongkrete
Kongkreteâs reveal was honestly out of left field. Heâs obviously meant to be the surprisingly viable joke character, but I donât think thereâs really an Ultraman monster that inspired him. But I do think itâs really fun that buildings can fight back in a piece of kaiju media for once.
Rawa
Finally my favorite of the bunch, Rawa, who Iâve headcanoned as a small angry stupid guardian. My best bud @dappercritter pointed out that it could be loosely inspired by natsunomeryu from Ultraman. Rawa also fills the force of destruction kaiju archetype like godzilla, and does have a lot of energy based attacks like him. Rawaâs overall design also feels a lot like early to mid 2010s deviantart kaiju. The head of Rawa is also obviously based off that of nagas, which makes sense since again, Passion Republic Games is Malaysian.
These are the characters weâve gotten so far, but the game is supposed to launch with ten, meaning weâll be getting one more character before launch and potentially more after. And until then I canât wait for Gigabash.

hello! apologies for taking up your time but I was wondering if you could help me with a name? I've been conceptualizing an oc who has a witch theme and she manipulates plants. I spent a long minute dissecting your guide on kanji and how to form names and such but it didn't quite click for me? I was so confused on how to include her quirk in her name because I didn't know how to describe it, if that makes sense? like if her quirk is manipulating plants would I use the kanji for 'to grow' or any other alternative. thats the stuff thats really confusing me
Hi, sorry if this reply is late! Been busy lately.
If your quirk isn't named yet, you can try to do that first, but quick fun fact, plant manipulation has a variety of other names which can inspire not only what you name your quirk but what you can name your character, if you're planning to name them after their quirk! Chlorokinesis, phytokinesis, arborkinesis, botanokinesis, florakinesis, etc...
But to answer your question: yes, basically, just use the kanji for whatever word you're trying to use, and take a look at their name readings or other types of readings to figure out what sounds best to you.
If none of the names you're trying fit, try to look up different words! Using "to grow" makes it seem like your character's quirk is very specific to just growing plants, and not anything to do with controlling them or doing other things with them. You can try more general terms and nouns instead of verbs too, like "botany" or "petals" or "bloom", etc.
But do note that you don't HAVE to name your character after their quirk. That's one option out of many! So if the name-it-after-the-quirk thing isn't working with you, try a different approach--find a pun or a idiom or other type of phrase (like an old Chinese proverb having to do with flowers or plants), or use an English word and make it sound like a Japanese name by romanizing it, maybe even separate an English word to make a Japanese name; ie. "Flower" = "fu-ra-wa-(a)" (ăă©ăŻăŒ), you can separate it into "Fu Rawa" or something. That's a super simple example, you can always try something more abstract, like for a villain you can romanize "Miss Lily R." = "misu riri aru" which as a Japanese name the kana can be re-arranged to "Misuri Riaru" or something (this is just an example of course, that kind of name isn't a true Japanese name but MHA names don't have to be so just roll with it). In that example, it can also sound like "misery liar" as an additional pun! Having multiple layers to the name is fun too, but you don't have to get that deep into it if you're not used to reading kana or translating stuff with romanization.
Hope that helps!

WHERE is Gulberg Greens Islamabad.
Whom to trust whom not to?. Especially when it comes to investments, I think making decisions in this regard are harder than that lifetime effort made to earn that heavy amount. For instance me, who had been saving up for a decade now but took me more than three years to gain confidence enough to buy land. The money lying in the bank was only losing its worth . So, I knew I had to make a decision soon for my future security.  Now the question rises whom to trust, rather how to? . Commercial Projects  in Gulberg Islamabad
As we all know how fraud is common in this market. I canât forget the first time I visited a real estate agent, the land that cost 15lac he was selling for 20 lac. And when I made a decision to buy it, it turned out to be a non-progressing land and probably have no worth howsoever. Now I knew this time is the right time to invest especially in the vicinity of Islamabad, my tension turned into frustration as I had never felt so helpless before. I was desperate for help YES⊠but was there anyone to guide me⊠unfortunately NO! One day while I was surfing Facebook, I came across Gulberg Islamabadâs post. The image was visually pleasing . Later ,when I dig down more to the content of their posts and website, the features seemed interesting too. Flat for sale in Gulberg islamabad
On top of all that, the name of Gulberg was quite promising itself. It suddenly clicked me to visit that place and visit their sales office rather than random property dealers. I entered Gulberg Greens and I was stunned by its beauty and grand look. I was overwhelmed by the hospitality of the Sales team that involved educated men and women as well. A lady helped me out with all the queries and procedure. For the first time I felt relieved to be in the right place and right away⊠yes right away I signed a cheque and booked an apartment in Gulberg Heights. The Roman architecture and amazing features and facilities that this place is offering was worth relying. So now I own my property and I surely believe that where there is a will there is a way! Commercial Plots in Gulberg Islamabad

My New Year Resolution
New Year Resolution: Enough of struggles⊠now itâs time to do more with my life! This is what I said to myself in the beginning of 2019 and changed my perspective about life. Life as we all know tests us in every way but itâs us who decide whether to become a victim of it or have control over it by learning from our mistakes and experiences⊠We can surely make it better by becoming stronger, by expecting less and giving more, by focusing on our dear ones rather than those who hurt us and most of us by analyzing what we want from life and how to get it! Of course it isnât as easy as it sounds and not a work of day or two.
With time I realized that though we are always trying to comprehend everything around us, the most difficult thing to understand is what lies within us. Literally sometimes it takes years to figure out something as little as what is best for us and what isnât. If I sound silly just try convincing yourself to do something against your will⊠My time for the last 4 years didnât seem to be in my favor . But I simply accepted my fate till I couldnât bear more, as not just my personal and professional life but also the lives attached to me were getting unbearably affected. I for once realized the cost of shattering my confidence and blaming myself.
No one was going to offer me solutions⊠I had to be my own master. I started off by taking care of myself, making my faith in Allah stronger . Also in any type of  circumstance I didnât let anything get me down. All this seemed impossible initially, but today I am where I am because of this. My relationships got better and I showed good progress at work. Along with work I started a new online business of mobile accessories in collaboration with my cosine. In just one year I have earned enough to make an investment. For 2020 I can proudly say that this year I will start a new better life at my favorite place in Islamabad, The Gulberg Islamabad.
I have already booked a plots in Gulberg Residencia and now I canât wait to see my home being built where I will have everything I wish for, a place rather than a house will be my home. I will finally be able to make my family happy with this beautiful gift. As no doubt there is no place like Gulberg Islamabad.
Everyone wants to eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Donât you???
In the serene and green Gulberg Residencia, is my beautiful home which means the world to me. And in that 7 marla home is my small lawn which is undoubtedly my favorite spot, my peace place. I can spend hours in my garden without getting bored since it makes me come alive from inside and I just love that feeling.

My mother, my favorite person is another person who loves this spot equally. Gardening is her hobby and more than me she the one who takes good care of this garden. My garden may be tiny, but its is filled with numerous colors of nature. Here you will see a huge and unique variety of flowers, fruits and vegetables. Roses are my all time fave. In addition to which we keep growing seasonal flowers and vegetables in the garden . Plots in Gulberg Green Islamabad.
The feeling is indescribable when you see the buds blooming, vegetable growing and new leaves sprouting⊠its like a new beginning of joy, hope and success. Plants are not just growing stem, they have a life. I often talk to them, while I water them, i pour my love and and when i hoe the soil, i know this care I put in them will in return bring more freshness to my life. Usually my day starts in my garden. It is a positive way to begin a day with the peace of mind. I practice deep breathing for around 20 minutes and then look at all the plants that I have.
I love spending the evening hours in my garden if I have time. Best are the days when my friends come over for evening tea. We chat and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us. My pretty little garden is surely an integral part of my life. This place vanishes all the negativeness and makes me happy in seconds.
THE BIG REAL ESTATE QUESTION
Isnât it hell of a confusion to decide which society is the best! These days too many new residence societies are emerging and everyone claims to be the best.
Other than few famous names such as Bahria Town and GULBERG, we canât really rely on anyone⊠can we? So many fraud examples are there to scare us from making an investment. Also when it comes to business, we are either putting all our money in the drain or luck has knocked our door.
I wonder how many people get looted just because they trust the decent looking humans who convince them with their words. With the out of the world promises imagine how lifetime savings are blown away with just a signature. Though we canât blindly trust any agent few things must be considered before making any decision.
They have been working in Real Estate for a quite a long time.
Check out the successful transactions and the feedbacks of their previous clients.
Their contact details, be it online or offline should always be available and so should be the responsive rate.
They should definitely be affiliated with a registered office or should be registered by themselves.
They should have in-depth information of the real estate industry.
Must supply your real estate needs as their utmost priority.
They should guide properly for your transaction
My Encounter with a Real Estate Agent
Today, thanks to the education and awareness, women believe there is nothing on earth they canât do, well⊠try dealing with an ignorant person without him staring at you top to bottom, as if you are sitting naked just for his entertainment.
Seems relatable doesnât it? Thatâs not it, my encounter with the goof Iâm referring to kept getting more and more interesting. He was none other but a real estate agent. My colleague told me about good investment opportunities at societies near new airport so I took some time off to visit a real estate office for a better understanding.
I entered a small office with few people all in white kameez shalwar, which till this day I donât get why they only where white⊠is it their dress code? Or do they try to portray decency through their look. Well if so it didnât really work on me. Instead of gaining interest all I wanted was to get away from the creepy looks.  I asked him straight about the rates and the best offers they had within the budget I had. And after this long question he asked ⊠âMadam Ji, what would you like to have chai or thunda (cold drink)â ? Confused I simply said, âNO, I donât have time, please come straight to the pointâ⊠âMadam, how can we let our guest go unserved? Please feel comfortable.
So I ended up with a glass of juice which turned out to be much needed to clear my throat. Every time I asked a questioned, his eyes became wider and he bent towards me more⊠I thought he was going to sit on the table on some point. Well long story short, I changed my mind, received a fake call and escaped. It was till few months back when I went to the sales office of Gulberg Islamabad where I realized that decent dealing is possible in this profession.
I went with my colleague expecting disaster but she came out satisfied with all her quires answered. Now I too have made up my mind to invest only in Gulberg Green Islamabad because itâs not just serene and green, it has the best offers according to your requirements.
Life at Gulberg Residencia
Indeed, it was one of the best decisions of my life⊠we canât regret the fact that our environment has a great influence on us. In other words, if we canât adjust in our surrounding, nothing else can make us happy, neither money nor luxury. On the other hand, peace of mind in this fast moving era is not that easy to find. Cities are getting more and more crowded and so when I was capable of making an investment, all I could think was⊠PEACE! My residence  was living in central area of Rawalpindi.
The daily traffic block added extra half an hour to my office distance which was only 10 km away. And not just travelling, I was sick of the noises, pollution and altogether, I was unhappy with my lifestyle⊠even going for outing was not a fun thing for me. I know many people are happy the way they are but not me and I couldnât help it. I had imagined a better life for my wife and my two kids who meant the world to me.
One day I crossed a newly emerging society, the Gulberg Islamabad and I felt the urge to visit it. Though the elegant entrance with wide roads and amazing farmhouses, I thought this place is only for the elite class. Â Out of curiosity I asked a shopkeeper who showed me the way to the Gulberg Customer Dealing office. Again I was impressed but hopeless for I knew my savings were not enough.
Gathering up my confidence, I told the Sales Executive guy Mr. Mohsin about my total saving. Of course his response surprised me with a proposal not just for a living opportunity, but it offered an exceptional lifestyle, beyond my expectations at Gulberg Green Residencia. Though I could only afford a 5 marla plot, it was more than enough for me and my family. I thought it was the best gift I could give to my family and so it was.
When I brought my wife my kids and my parents to show them my plot, my wife was in tears of happiness and my mother couldnât be more proud of me. I canât wait for the time when I will move in to spend my dream life with my family. At Gulberg Islamabad, live your DREAM with SERENE AND GREEN LIFESTYLE!

Royal Commission (RCI) Needs To Be Established Immediately To Investigate The Sale of 50% of TH's ABRAJ, At Just RM100,000.
The #PHancing government, led by Tun Mahathir for 22 months, sold many of the country's assets at unreasonable deals.
To this day, the absurd sales made by Tun Mahathir have not been thoroughly investigated.
More recently, another case of Tabung Haji's holding company has been uncovered.
Apparently not only Tun Mahathir and Guan Eng who loot the assets of the state, even the Minister of Religious Affairs also "double five".
Royal Commission (RCI) Needs To Be Established Immediately To Investigate The Sale of 50% of TH's ABRAJ (Valued RM300M), At Just RM100,000.
I quoted Abdul Rahim Hilmi Zakariya in his article entitled RM300 MILLION.
According to a confirmation letter from the Pilgrimage Fund dated February 28, 2020, Mujahit Yusof Rawa as Minister of Religion has approved the sale of 50% of TH's holdings in Abraj Sdn Bhd to others for a mere RM100,000.
The sale of the holding in Abraj Sdn Bhd at RM100,000 is ridiculous.
I take this disclosure made by Abdul Rahim Hilmi to our attention because the "TRUTH" mismanagement of the assets of Muslims cannot be silenced.
The betrayal of the property of the Muslims had to be exposed to the worm hole.
Here are the results of the disclosure made by Abdul Rahim Hilmi:
Abraj is a special purpose company (SPV/SPE) jointly formed by TH and Amanah Raya Berhad (ARB) in 2010 with the aim of exploring new joint venture investments.
TH and ARB each have 40,225,000 units making the stock 50:50 respectively. TH has invested around RM45 million during the founding of Abraj Sdn Bhd.,
Abraj is the owner of 3 valuable buildings in Cyberjaya namely MKN Embassy Techzone Block A, MKN Embassy Techzone Block B and Mustapha Kamal Building.
The building of the MKN Embassy was erected on 4.1341 hectares with FOREIGN HANDS.
All of these buildings were already valued in December 2016 for around RM300 million.
Mujahid Yusof Rawa has approved the sale at a ridiculous price of RM100,000 for 50% stake in Abraj Sdn. Bhd.
In the event of cash flow problems, unfavorable rentals or financial difficulties, the most appropriate steps are corporate restructuring such as refinancing and interest rate negotiations with new lenders. Then followed by corporate branding and system change to suit the current industry.
The sale passed by Mujahid Yusof Rawa was considered a breach of trust.
Security Check Required
(null)
TH has responded to the allegation on June 30, 2020.
The first reason for the sale was, one of the 3 buildings owned by Abraj in Cyberjaya was vacant after the main tenant came out in 2015.
TH's reasons for Abdul Rahim Hilmi's disclosure were weak and suspicious. https://ift.tt/2NPAT2g
First, tenants for two of the three buildings have already signed a lease agreement for 3 years.
Second, if there is only one problematic building, why should all handles be released?
TH should have tried to find another way to allow the vacant building to be rented instead of selling the three buildings at an exorbitant price.
The second justification of sales is more unreasonable.
The valuation of Abraj's assets as of December 2016 was approximately RM300 million, while the bank's debt debt was RM192 million.
If the 50% stake is to be released to either party, a base value of RM300 million should be used.
Meaning: 50% x (RM300 million assets - RM192 million debt) = RM54 million.
This RM54 million payment is reasonable as the Tabung Haji has invested around RM45 million during the establishment of the company.
If this method of calculation was used, the minimum profit would be RM 9 million - RM10 million instead of just RM100,000.
It has not taken into account the RM45 million capital that TH has invested over the past 10 years.
The Royal Commission (RCI) needs to be established immediately to investigate this irregularity.
The responsibility of protecting the assets of Muslims rests on the shoulders of the governing government and all Muslims of this country.

6 Issues Behind The Tabung Haji Hibah of 1.25%
ALL Malaysians must have been shocked by the 1.25% Hibah Tabung Haji declaration made by YB Dr. Mujahid Yusof Rawa, the lowest in the history of Tabung Haji (TH)! As expected the Minister to use the narrative blaming the previous government and the management of the so-called manipulation of accounts and abuse of power up to 5 years in a row to declare a higher Hibah to depositors.

As expected the Minister to use the narrative blaming the previous government and the management of the so-called manipulation of accounts and abuse of power up to 5 years in a row to declare a higher Hibah to depositors.

if you donât mind me asking, do you have any ideas about Charlotteâs milestone skins in your AU?
Never actually thought before of giving her Milestone skins but now that you mention it
Here is kinda doodles of how Id imagine them
The IV is like her outfit shortly before she got forsakened it was at the peak of the Bacons essentially making her live an apocalyptic nightmare lol-(also she wears a gasmask because of the bad airpolution and mostly because she works very often with toxic chemicals up close to make expensives)
Also I was too lazy to make the 1-3 but tbh they probably would have been nothing special just kinda showcases of how she she went more and more into full on vigilante/ aka her mental health kinda wandering downhill pff

Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Purple
(For my friends, who endure so many things.)
+
In the night you are dreaming, and in your dream you see someone come out of the sea. They come in glory.
They ride a low wave and alight on the shore. A crack, like glass breaking, when their toe touches sand. Their eyes are shut. Their cheeks are rosy. Their lips curl slight, seeming to smile.
In their right hand: a whole pomelo, skin almost yellow, peeled open like a lotus blossom, the flesh pink and nearly bursting; In their left hand: a keris, blade down, dripping.
Their eyes are shut. Their coat is as satin, and ripple-simmers â a bleeding riot of colours: cherry, coral, gold, grass, sea-blue, plum. Sunshine.
You try to hide behind a boulder on the beach. Their eyes are shut. But you sense you have not left their sight. They see through the stone, and they see through you. There is a star on their brow. It glows like a neon sign of a shop, at night.
+
The next morning you find yourself unable to concentrate.
You forget the handbrake, so the car you are working on slides backwards, down the workshopâs incline â you chase and pull it to a stop before it slides onto the curve of the roundabout.
+
Lunchtime at Soon Heng Coffeeshop is unusually subdued. You sit alone, absently spooning soup. Wholesaler Sim and his brother sit at the table next to yours. They eat in silence. And then:
âMe and Ah Girl had a dream, last night,â Wholesaler Sim says.
âA dream? Me too!â his brother replies.
There is a collective skrrr-retch from the floor as a dozen plastic chairs are turned around, in unison.
âDid you dream about an old man?â Wholesaler Sim asks his brother.
It is Taukehâs Wife Kim who raises her arm and answers: âI did!â
âHe came out of the sea?â Sister Chin says. âI saw him too.â
âA star on his forehead,â Soft Khoo says.
âWho is he?â you ask.
âHe is a datuk,â Wholesaler Simâs brother answers.
âA datuk,â Taukehâs Wife Kim says. âAn admiral. Like the one under the tree, at the roundabout.â
âClothes the colour of the rainbow,â Soft Khoo says.
âWhat do we do?â you ask. âI dreamt about him, too.â
Auntie Hong slaps her hand on the table â crack! â a smack that rattles the spoon in your glass of iced barley. âYou young people,â she says. âUseless! We already had the dream. Meaning, no choice already! You want the god to be angry?â
âWhat do we do?â asks Taukehâs Wife Kim.
âCannot be helped already,â Auntie Hong says. âMust go and make the god.â
+
The factory waiting room has air-conditioning and faux-leather settees. You stand. The walls are covered with photographs â the god maker posing with priests, government ministers.
âWelcome, welcome,â the god maker says. He is a plump man. Slick-oiled hair. A cellphone clipped to his belt.
He points at a price list. âNowadays, fibreglass is standard. We have many packages. If yours is a new god I recommend Golden Premium.â He points. âBasic level. And then in a year or two, take the Fortune Premium upgrade package.â He points again.
+
The god maker pulls out a form. âOkay, so. Male or female?â
âMale,â Taukehâs Wife Kim says â but Soft Khoo says: âFemale.â
The god maker looks at one, then the other. âWell,â he says, looking at Soft Khoo. âWe do make male-female ones, split vertically down the middle. But that one is in our Hindu range.â He looks at Taukehâs Wife Kim. âSlightly more expensive.â
âMale is fine,â Wholesaler Sim says.
âStanding?â the god maker asks, and you all nod. âStepping on?â
âTiger,â Sister Chin replies.
âHolding?â
âKeris,â Wholesaler Sim says. âAnd pomelo,â says his brother.
âHm, no cane? Wearing a songkok?â
âYes,â you say.
âAnd a star on the forehead,â Sister Chin says.
The god maker nods, taking notes. âOkay, now, painting. Usually this depends on race. If the god is very Malay, then we paint the clothes green. If Indian, we paint the skin black.â
He looks at Taukehâs Wife Kim. Taukehâs Wife Kim just shrugs.
âClothes must be painted like a rainbow colour,â Soft Khoo says.
âOh?â the god maker lifts an eyebrow. âRainbow colour like a Buddhist flag? Blue-yellow-red-white-orange?â
âNo,â Wholesaler Sim says. âRainbow-rainbow. Red-orange-yellow-green-blue-purple.â
+
The god maker scribbles, scribbles, scribbles. Not looking up, he says: âThatâs interesting. Never made this kind of god with rainbow colours before.â He cocks his head, theatrical, as if a thought has suddenly come:
âNowadays rainbows are quite controversial,â he says.
âControversial?â Auntie Hong asks.
âThat LGBT thing,â the god maker says.
âOh, ya, that gay-gay thing,â Sister Chin says.
âGay-gay?â Wholesaler Sim says. He elbows Soft Khoo twice. âSo your kind of thing, heh?â Soft Khoo glares back, eyes like forge-fired irons. âSorry,â Wholesaler Sim says.
âHas to be a rainbow colour,â you say.
âBut not just rainbow colours,â Soft Khoo says. âHis clothes also need to have light blue and pink and white lines.â
The others nod, agreeing. Wholesaler Simâs brother says: âSee? No problem. Adding pink and white means it has nothing to do with the LGBT thing. This is a totally different thing!â
+
In the week after the new god arrives, your workshop gets three visitors.
The first is Uncle Rawa. He sputters up the incline. His engine dies. âMy bike,â he says. âDifficulty starting.â
As you detach the spark plug Uncle Rawa lights a cigarette. He waves it at the street, at the fig tree filtering six-oâclock light coming from off the horizon, at the freshly-painted shrine. âPink. Nice colour. You all just did it?â
You wipe your hand on a sleeve and nod.
âGot a new statue inside?â he asks. You nod.
Uncle Rawa sucks in air and smoke. He comes from across the bridge, from the Malay village. He is a type of shaman, people tell you. Sometimes, he travels into the city; rich people pay him to keep away rain.
âThey are guardians,â he says, exhaling. âThey keep the soil and the water. Of course, now, we donât mess with them any more. Not supposed to. Itâs wrong, religion-wise. Itâs all superstition. Nonsense.â
You blow through the fuel-tank vent more forcefully than you need to.
âMy neighbours tell me they have been having dreams,â you hear Uncle Rawa say. You sit up to look at him. He ashes, and watches the sun setting.
You start the bike, twist the throttle; the engine roars then grumbles. âThe vent was getting clogged,â you say. âNo more problem.â
âThank you,â Uncle Rawa says. âFor painting the colours.â
+
The second visitor drives a luxury mini â never before encountered, here, so some of the local boys stop to gawk.
The driver is a man in sunglasses. âOn a road trip, driving trunk roads down the Peninsula. Good luck all the way. Then, today, flat tyre.
âBaby, baby!â his girlfriend shouts, in English. âCome, come!â
She has wandered across the street, into the shade of the tree. They inspect the shrine â the oranges and betel nuts and the palm-leaf cigarettes; the beef rendang Sister Chin left under a red plastic food cover, against flies.
âOh my god!â he says.
âRight? Right?â his girlfriend says.
They pose with the shrine, three seconds still for his phone camera. And then â âNow again, just me,â he says. He stands in front of the altar, claps his head between his two hands, mouth frozen open in a look of mock-surprise.
You see his face again, two days later, on social media, in a post shared by the Oriental Press. His eyes are round, his teeth white. Behind him is the shrineâs new god, bright with new colour.
The accompanying caption reads: âOMG LGBT DATUK KONG!â
The small counter at the bottom right corner tells you his post has 17.4K shares.
+
The third visitor is a reporter from the Oriental Press: glasses, wide smile designed to disarm; quick-stepping, press tag out; hungry-looking.
âExcuse me, mister,â she says. âPlease mister may I ask you â â
âNo comment,â you answer.
But her colleague is older, Â maybe quicker to sniff out vulnerable targets. Because there he goes, trotting after Soft Khoo, who is trying to get away. âNo comment,â Soft Khoo says.
âMister, what is your response to people saying that this is the one of the covert strategies LGBT groups use to promote their lifestyle, their agenda?â
âHey,â says Taukehâs Wife Kim, chasing after. âHey!â
âMister, what is your response?â
Taukehâs Wife Kim grabs the reporterâs arm. âHey!â she says. âDonât disturb him!â
âMister â â
âDonât disturb him, you understand?â Taukehâs Wife Kim says. âAsk me! I have a response. My response is this. Nobody here has anything to do with LGBT groups. With gay-gays. Okay?â
The reporter from the Oriental Press has his notebook out. His colleague runs over, her camera set to record. Both are trained on Taukehâs Wife Kim.
She is screaming, loud as only taukehâs wives can get. âThose people donât know what they are talking about,â she says. âThis is our place. Our god. Go away! Leave us alone! Donât come here, making these accusations!â
+
Soft Khoo is true to his nickname. Afterwards you find him sitting on a step in the back alley, crying. You sit beside him.
You wait. Gradually, sniffing, hiccuping, he stops. âItâs not so bad,â you say.
âIt will get worse,â he says. And you donât know what to say to that, so you put your arm around his shoulder.
+
That night, Soft Khoo snoring beside you, finally you fall asleep. And you dream. In your dream you see someone come out of the sea.
They come in glory. Their coat is satin: billowy sails, gouramiâs fins, a flag. Ruby and tangerine, saffron and jade, azure and amaranthine.
A white star, glowing. Their eyes are shut. Their lips are ruby. Cheeks full, blowing the whipping wind. Surfing a tidal wave to smash the shore. A crash, like tree-shattering lightning. The sand turns solid. Cracked concrete.
Their eyes are shut. You sense their attention, piercing through you. This time, you cannot cower. What would be the point? You step out, from behind the boulder. You bow. Fall to your knees.
In their right hand: a single egg, see-through like a heated cannonball, swirling with molten matter; In their left hand: a keris, blade down, gory.
You lift your chin. They touch the tip of their blade to your forehead. It burns, their dagger. You feel pride, approval. Piercing anger. Tenderness. Fierce tenderness.
+
(From an idea by Sharon Chin: A Datuk Kong for queer people, of and from the land; little shrines in this corner or that; seeded so deep they cannot be dug out; who the bigots fear, because you cannot mess with spirits and expect to get off easy.
She might have actually dreamt it.)

6,000 students take aptitude tests
KUWAIT CITY, March 28: The Kuwait University said 6,000 Grade 12 students Saturday answered the aptitude tests, amid precautionary measures and strict preventive measures in view of the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, to protect the students from infection. Deputy Director for Evaluation and Measurement at the Kuwait University, Dr. Rawa Al-Jarallah, said in a press statement that test was in Arabic, English for mathematics conducted at three university sites â Sabah Al-Salem University City, Khaldiya and Jabriya.
Al-Jarallah explained the Kuwait University offers three opportunities to perform academic aptitude tests every academic year, starting in January. She explained todayâs tests was for the months of March and April, and the students were divided into batches over a period of 45 days to adhere to health requirements, to prevent gatherings. With regard to students who are sick with COVID-19, must communicate with the Evaluation and Measurement Department via the e-mail address giving the entry card found in social media to provide evidence of infection and then set an appointment to take the test Dr Al-Jarallah indicated students can access the registration system to see the results after they are announced.

Change is the biggest contributor to growth, right? Absolutely!! So why do we let change scare us or keep us in stagnant area of our life? As a coach, I will admit that it happens more than I like. Losing clients for one reason or another. But usually it is because the client is not ready for change. They fear the unknown. The vulnerability. The different ideas. The unfamiliar path. The deep inner work. The honesty. The courage. I have had clients begin, thinking that I was going to fix them. There is no fixing. They are not broken. Just stuck. But in acknowledging that they want change in their life, they have to acknowledge who really does the work. THEM!! I donât mind a challenging client if they are willing to have movement. But when a client challenges me every step of the way and yet refuses to try to move, then unfortunately they are not ready for change. I wonât give up on them but they have to want it more than me. And that is a lot because I want to see everyone be successful and find their happiness. It is truly what drives me. But the fears of the unknown can be disabling to one who is already in a constant catabolic state. So the best advise I can give someone who feels stuck. Who is wanting change. Who is tired of the outcomes that are not fulfilling. First seek out your willingness and courage to face the unknown. For most of your success is going to be in that area of the âuncomfortable changeâ. Will we ever be completely fearless? I donât think so. I havenât. But can we be more fearless? Absolutely. Can we even move forward even with fear? Again, yes! But we have to be willing and find some courage to take those steps. Even when we are fearful. Change is waiting just over there for us. Go experience it!
