Daisy was over an hour late and Billy was worried. Being late was a classic Daisy Jones thing, of course; everyone knew that if they told her to be somewhere at 1:00 then she wouldn’t show up until 2:00, and that if she had 15 minutes left to get ready, she’d take 30. But this was too much. They had planned to be at the studio at 5:00 and now it was 8:00 pm. Everyone else had already gone home, Teddy and Billy were the only ones still waiting, trying to be patient.
“I’m going to find her,” Billy says finally, standing up. Anything could’ve happened to Daisy. He would never let himself admit it, but since he met her through Cherry and started working with her on “AURORA,” he started to care for her just as much as he did for the rest of his bandmates. For all he knew, she could’ve overdosed on one of those pills she always seemed to be taking. That was the worst case scenario. Best case was that she was hungover or sick and just forgot to call.
“I’ll come with you,” Teddy sighs, grabbing his coat.
The two of them drive to Cherry and Daisy’s place and are met with loud music that could’ve probably been heard all the way down the block. The front door is unlocked but it’s a struggle to even make it past the driveway with the sheer amount of people milling about, drunk, high, and doped up off their asses. They fight their way inside, searching around for any signs of either of the two residents.
Billy slides open the glass door to the backyard, finding Daisy smoking in one of the lawn chairs. “Where the hell have you been?” he asks.
“What happened to ‘hi’?” she asks, looking up at Billy. Her pupils were blown out, it was clear she wasn’t in her own mind.
“Where’s Cherry?” he asks, holding himself back from screaming at Daisy.
She gestures to where people were whooping and cheering near the edge of the pool. Billy turns to look at what Daisy was pointing to and sees his girl standing on the low diving board. She was wasted, yet somehow fucking ethereal. A flowy white dress, her hair loose, lipstick and mascara smudged. He watches, frozen in place, as she turns around so her back was facing the pool, earning boos from the party goers. Boos that quickly change to louder cheers as she falls backwards, plunging into the cold water.
The splash snaps him out of it.
Cherry sinks. She doesn't even realize she's sinking, doesn't realize she has to start swimming, that she's curled into a ball and was preventing herself from floating. One second, she's in the water, the next, she's in someone’s arms, lifting her from the pool. She's placed in a lawn chair, a towel wrapped around her. Everything around her is fuzzy. Is that Teddy over there, kicking everyone out of her party? Where is Daisy?
“Fuck, babe, what the hell happened here?” Billy asks, looking down at her from where he was standing.
The blur that was her boyfriend comes into focus, like a cameraman adjusted the lenses of her eyes, and a smile blooms on her face. “You came to my party!” she beams. “There’s beer in the fridge. I think. I’m not sure if it’s still there.”
He's pissed. Pissed that she had kept Daisy from the studio with this stupid party. Pissed that she got so fucked up without him there to watch over her, to keep her safe. Pissed because no matter how upset he is at her, he can't help but notice how the fabric of her dress went translucent when soaked through. He can't help but let his gaze fall to the way the wet material clings to her skin, the curves of her body, how the beads of water glimmer in the light coming through from the glass door, back-lighting her like a halo around her whole body.
“Party’s over, Cherry,” he says firmly, tearing his eyes away from her and making sure Teddy was taking care of Daisy.
She doesn’t seem to have heard, responding with “You’re pretty.” And he is. His hair is damp from getting her out of the pool, his shirt clinging onto his skin and revealing his toned body underneath.
“Now isn’t the time.” Billy shakes his head and moves to help Cherry stand. “Let’s get you into some new clothes, babe.”
She complies, letting him guide her into the house and press a glass of water to her lips. Lets him change her out of her damp dress into a t-shirt and cotton shorts. She lets him tuck her into bed and doesn’t argue when he refuses to stay the night.
When Billy gets home, he doesn't know what to do. He tries to go to bed, goes through his usual routine, but can't fall asleep. His mind races with thoughts about Cherry. He loved her. Loved? No, he loves her. Present-tense. But then why isn't he with her? Why is he in his own bed and not hers, making sure she doesn't throw up in the middle of the night? Making sure she has enough water, holding her close to take care of her, knowing she needs him.
As much as he tells himself he should get up, should go back to her, he doesn't. The furthest he makes it is out of bed, into his living room. And he freezes. He freezes and turns his back to the front door and grabs his guitar instead.
‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍
“I’m not fucking singing this,” Daisy deadpans.
“Why the hell not?” Billy snaps.
“Because I don’t know what kind of bullshit trouble you’re having in paradise right now but I am not singing this shit about my best friend.”
“How do you know it’s about Cherry?” he asks.
“Maybe because I didn’t even need to say her name and you knew who I was talking about!” Daisy says, calling him out.
“It’s fine, we write about each other all the time,” he argues. “Half of the songs on ‘AURORA’ are about her anyway, how’s this so different?”
“Because those songs were hopeful. They were about the past. ‘Let Me Down Easy,’ ‘You Were Gone’? Those were about your high school sweethearts, second chance romance, bullshit Jane Austen love lives,” she says as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. “This is about last night. And there’s no ‘let’s try again,’ it’s almost as if you fucking regret her!”
“Don’t say that,” he hisses. “I don’t regret her, I love her, don’t fucking try to assume our relationship is something it’s not. You and Cherry might be attached at the hip but that doesn’t mean you know everything about us.”
“Then why the hell would you write this?” Daisy asks, less arguing now, more just wanting to know what the fuck was going on in Billy’s head. “‘You're just a wild guess in a see-through dress’? ‘But you'd be just as fun as a jammed-up gun / Another shot at just the wrong place and time’?” she reads from the notebook in her hand.
“Because I was angry, Daisy!” he shouts. “I was pissed at her, but that doesn’t mean I don’t still fucking love her! I just— I needed to get everything out. And this is how. I’d think out of everyone, you’d understand the most.”
Daisy just looks at him. Clearly she was exhausted, hungover, and desperate to defend and protect her friend. “You’ll talk to her about this,” she says. It wasn’t a question, it wasn’t a request. It was a demand.
“Yes, fine,” he says. “I’ll talk to her about this, just record the damn song, Daisy.”
Her eyes narrow as if she doesn’t believe him, but she drops it and steps into the sound booth.
‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍
That evening, Cherry pulls up in Billy’s driveway, wanting to see him. Using the spare key under the doormat, she lets herself in, finding him on the couch, writing.
“Hi, honey,” she says, sitting beside him, head automatically going to lean on his shoulder.
“Hey.” His answer is short, his attention focused on his songbook.
“I’m sorry about keeping Daisy from the studio last night. And for getting so wasted,” she murmurs, turning her head to press a kiss to his shoulder.
“It’s alright,” he says, looking up from his writing now. “Why did you do it?”
“Felt lonely, I guess,” she shrugs. “You’ve been focusing so much on ‘AURORA,’ and it’s like— of course I’m proud of you and it’s so amazing that you care so much about your work, but now it feels like you have no time for me. And I didn’t want to bother you about it. You fix loneliness with friends so I threw a party.”
“I’m sorry I’ve been neglecting you,” he says.
“It’s okay,” she assures, hand finding his. “What do you want for dinner?”
‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍
He doesn’t talk to her about it any more than that. Cherry hears every song, every demo, before the album release. Every song but “More Fun To Miss.” She thinks everything is fine. Fine until it was time for the album cover shoot for ‘AURORA’.
Speakers are set up with songs from the album playing. Cherry is sitting on a rock, heart-shaped sunglasses over her eyes and Polaroid camera in her hands to capture some candids of her friends. The professional stuff was left for Camila Alvarez, Cherry’s childhood best friend, who she specifically requested to come to L.A. for this, knowing her friend’s knack for photography.
The two girls embrace, Cherry introducing Daisy and Camila to each other. As they chat, “More Fun To Miss” comes on.
“Is this a new one?” Cherry asks Daisy, straining her ears a bit to hear the words.
“What do you mean?” Daisy asks.
“Billy showed me everything you guys recorded for ‘AURORA’ already. I haven’t heard this one yet,” she says.
“Shit.”
“What? Daisy, what’s going on—?” she pauses mid-sentence as Billy’s voice reach her ears, joining with Daisy’s over the speakers.
“(More fun to miss) Than to be with / (You're more fun to kiss) Than to be with / (More fun to miss) Than to be with!”
“Cherry, I’m so sorry, I thought he told you,” Daisy says softly. “I told him to tell you.”
“I can’t— I need to—” Cherry just shakes her head, thankful for her sunglasses, shielding the tears welling up in her eyes.
Daisy wraps her arms around her friend, mouthing to Camila ‘Go find Billy.’ Camila does as instructed, looking around for him. She doesn’t need to try too hard, Billy was already looking for Daisy and Camila to tell them everyone was ready to start shooting. Instead, he’s met with the sight of his girl crying in Daisy’s arms.
It clicks then.
The song playing over the speakers, the look in Daisy’s eyes as they lock with Billy’s—deadly, if looks could kill.
"Fuck."

( 🍒 ) . * cherry . . . daisy jones & the six readersona !!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
𝜗𝜚 𓂃 personality !!
cherry is fiery and short tempered. she does what she wants, when she wants, and doesn’t listen to most people. she horrible at communication, but tries to get better because she knows her lack of it hurts her friends. she’ll fuck up and leave it to someone else to clean up her mess, but takes responsibility once she’s called out on it (usually by daisy or billy.) she’s a rockstar in her own right, working under teddy price and ellemar records, writing and singing on her own albums.
𝜗𝜚 𓂃 timeline !!
cherry is from pittsburgh, PA. her father died when she was young (heart attack) and her mother was a bad one. she would give cherry money and clothes and feed her and such, but she was usually gone working and was crashed out whenever she was home. cherry was best friends with camila alvarez and was high school sweethearts with billy dunne, she was the dunne brothers’ number one fan. she moved to california for college after graduation, breaking things off with billy when she left, neither of them wanting to do long distance.
she pursued a major in music theory and managed to finish her undergrad but didn’t do any more schooling after that. she met daisy jones at the whisky a go go one day near the end of her last year in college and, needing a place to stay, she and daisy quickly became friends and decide to find a place together (getting daisy out of simone’s hair was a bonus.)
daisy and cherry performed at the troubadour together as a bit of a duo, in this universe “two against three” is about daisy & cherry against their parents. the former dunne brothers—now the six, with the addition of karen sirko—were also playing that night, their set after cherry and daisy’s. when the six are on stage, cherry recognizes and locks eyes with billy.
they’re reunited and started going out. their relationship was rough at the start, both of them are shit at communication. they were on and off but both cared too much about each other to fully let go. after finding cherry drunk off her ass at a party, he wrote “more fun to miss” about her. daisy still sings with the six in this universe, but there’s no tension between her and billy. at the album shoot for “aurora,” cherry heard "more fun to miss" for the first time and was clearly upset about it. billy and daisy fought, daisy trying to defend her friend. this is how the “aurora” album cover is taken. cherry and daisy wrote “regret me” together on the drive home. billy went to rehab in this universe due to having a moral awakening after cherry broke up with him, a serious break-up rather than their usual on-and-off.
during the writing of “aurora,” cherry wrote and released her own album. for the sake of publicity, cherry and daisy jones & the six had a joint tour for cherry’s debut album, “cherry colas” and “aurora.” cherry got wasted after a show and made her way to billy’s hotel room. she came onto him but he refused to fuck her, instead made poor attempts to sober her up. while drunk, she admitted she never stopped loving him. they got back together after billy confronted her about it the next morning. their relationship is still messy, it always will be, but they’re both trying a little bit harder now.
𝜗𝜚 𓂃 cherry masterlist !!

“When did he write it?” Cherry manages to get out once she gets control of her tears, taking off her sunglasses to wipe at her eyes.
“After the party. The one where you jumped into the pool,” Daisy says, tearing her eyes away from Billy and pulling back to look at her friend.
“And you knew.”
“I told him I wouldn’t sing it. But he convinced me it was fine, that you guys write about each other all the time. He said he’d talk to you about it. I thought you gave him the okay for the song to be on the album,” she tries to explain.
“We live together, Daisy. How has this never come up during writing sessions or dinner or something?” Cherry asks.
“I don’t know,” she says honestly. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s not your fault.” Cherry fishes around in her coat pocket and takes out a small vial of white powder. She dumps a bit out onto the back of her hand, but Camila takes a hold of her wrist before she can snort it. Cherry huffs, but lets Camila take the vial from her as she says “I don’t think I can face him right now.”
“You don’t have to,” Daisy assures her. “Do you want me to talk to him?”
“Not unless you want to. I don’t need you to protect or defend me, Dais. But if you just want to yell at Billy for being… well, Billy, then be my guest,” she says.
Before Daisy goes, she presses an Altoids tin and a flask into Cherry’s hands. “Take the blue ones, those are benzos. Orange are dexies. Don’t take those. You need to relax, not get amped up.” Daisy goes over to Billy, grabbing him by the wrist and dragging him up a small rocky climb.
“Is she—” Billy starts to ask about Cherry, but can hardly get his words out before Daisy cuts him off.
“What the fuck were you thinking, Billy? You told me you would talk to her about it. That it would be okay and that she wouldn’t mind the song. She didn’t even know it existed until now!” Daisy starts shouting, absolutely pissed.
“It slipped my mind,” he tries to argue. “Just—Just let me talk to her. Let me apologize.”
“No,” Daisy says immediately. “She doesn’t want to talk to you right now, and honestly? I don’t blame her. I wouldn’t blame her if she broke up with you right now. I would, if I were her. Seriously, Billy, what the hell were you thinking? And don’t give me the ‘Oh, I just forgot!’ bullshit again because I know that’s not it.”
“What do you want me to say, Daisy?” He’s shouting now too. “That I was scared? That I was fucking terrified that if I showed her the song, she’d dump me? That I need her and wouldn’t be able to deal with it if she wasn’t with me anymore?”
Daisy laughs, but there’s no humor behind it. “Bullshit. Fucking bullshit, Billy. If you were so scared she’d leave you, you wouldn’t have made me sing it. You wouldn’t have told the band to put a track to it. It wouldn’t be on the fucking album if you were so scared.”
“I made a mistake!”
“You’re always making mistakes! I share a wall with that girl and you don’t want to know the sheer amount of times I’ve heard her crying or sobbing because you’ve done something to make her feel like shit!” Daisy shouts.
“What else do you want from me? What else could she want from me?” he asks, lost, desperate, but too pissed to be properly vulnerable.
“That’s not for me to say. She’s your goddamn girlfriend. You figure it out,” Daisy says.
‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍
“Cherry. Baby. Come on, I said I’m sorry,” Billy tries, trying to take ahold of her hand.
“Sorry doesn’t cut it anymore, Billy,” she says, taking a drink from Daisy’s flask.
“What do you want from me? Come on, I’ll give you anything,” he begs. “I’ll get sober, I’ll stop flirting so much with other girls, I’ll let you write a song about me!”
Cherry snorts a laugh, having half a mind to throw the metal flask at his head. “You think that’s how you fix this? You write a nasty piece about me and get my best friend to sing on it and then you give me permission to do the same thing and everything is magically okay again?”
“I don’t‍‍‍‍—I don’t know. Maybe? I’m trying here, baby,” he says.
“Don’t fucking call me that, Billy. I’m not your fucking ‘baby’ anymore. I can’t‍‍‍‍—Billy, I can’t do this anymore,” she says, eyes welling up with tears for the second time that day.
“Do what? The shoot? Because we can go home. Right now. Whatever you want. We can go get food and talk about this,” he attempts to assure her.
Cherry just shakes her head, avoiding looking at him. “No, Billy. I can’t do us anymore,” she says quietly, almost as if she has to force it out against her own will. “I can’t—This isn’t working. This isn’t healthy for either of us. We’re both broken pieces of shit, we just keep making each other worse and worse. I deserve better than this, Billy. And you know you do too.”
“Cherry, what the fuck are you talking about?” His whole world feels like it’s slipping away, like he’s trying to hold water in his hands.
“Maybe we could be friends again one day. But we’re done. Whatever fucked up thing we’ve got going on here that we try to call love? It’s not. It never was. And I’m done trying to pretend like it is.”
She’s turned to leave before he could say anything else, getting into the car where Daisy was waiting behind the wheel.
“Do you wanna talk about it, honey?” Daisy asks as she starts car.
“No.” Cherry shakes her head. “Where’s your book?”
Daisy hazards a glance over to her. “Glove compartment. Don’t you have yours on you?”
“I do. But I don’t want him to know I’m the one who wrote this.”
“Wrote what?” Daisy looks at Cherry again to find her frantically scribbling in a blank page in her songbook with what looked like an eyeliner pencil.
“I’m going do exactly what he did to me. Write a fucking song about it. And you’re going to sing on it.”
Daisy is quiet for a minute, as if she’s having a fight with the angel on her shoulder telling her it would be a bad idea to get involved like this. She wins the fight this time. “Whatever you need, honey.”
‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍
“We’re not putting this on the album,” Billy deadpans.
“Why the hell not?” Daisy snaps, setting down the guitar.
“Did she put you up to this or something?” he asks.
“Who?”
“Cherry.”
“Why would you think that? You think she really cares enough to do something like this?” Daisy lies through her teeth. Cherry said so herself that she didn’t want to be credited on this; didn’t want Billy to know. “I wrote it.” She tosses her songbook to Billy as proof.
“I still don’t want it on my album.”
“Your album?” Daisy looks at him incredulously. “‘AURORA’ is our album, Billy. Not just mine and yours, but these guys’ too,” she gestures to the rest of the Six. “We should put it to a vote. About time they got the chance to have an opinion on what goes on this fucking album, instead of us just going along with whatever you want.”
There’s a quiet murmur of agreement from everyone, both voting in favor of the song being on the album and of Billy needing to relinquish some control.
“Fine,” he says. “Record the fucking song. I don’t care. I’m done here.”
Billy leaves the studio, Daisy’s songbook still in hand. He doesn’t realize he still has it until he’s in the driver’s seat. He opens the book to a marked page, seeing the lyrics for the demo Daisy had just showed the band.
“You regret me and I'll regret you. / Except I don't care what you feel and I totally already do. / I'm the slippage in the system with a natural gift, how I move. / So go ahead and regret me, but I'm beatin' you to it, dude.”
It’s Daisy’s book. The brown eyeliner Daisy’s always partial to instead of pencil. But it’s in Cherry’s handwriting. Every single word on the page is in her handwriting. No other signs of Daisy’s influence or suggestions. It’s all Cherry.
Billy takes out his flask and brings it to his lips. He thinks again and chucks it out of the window of his car, the metal clattering against the concrete of the Sound City parking lot as her words ring through his head.
“We’re both broken pieces of shit, we just keep making each other worse. I deserve better than this, Billy.”
She was right. She deserves better than him. Better than the junkie wannabe-rockstar that he’s made himself out to be. But he wants to deserve her. Wants to be hers again. Wants to be good enough for her.
Good enough, like how he was for her all those years ago, back in high school. Before the fame and the drugs. When it was just him, Graham, Eddie, Warren, and Pete, playing “Look Me In The Eye” fifty times over in a garage with shitty acoustics. When she was their only fan, clapping even after the hundredth rendition of the same few songs, giving him a kiss each time they took a break. He wants it all back. He wants her back.
Billy starts the ignition and takes himself to rehab.

cherry 🍒 x billy dunne
more fun to miss ( mini-series ) — 1 . 2 . 3
summary : when cherry gets wasted after a concert and finds herself in her ex-boyfriend’s arms, her loosened tongue can’t help but tell him how she really feels. after all, drunk words are sober thoughts, aren’t they?
warnings : drinking/inebriation, drug use, suggestive dialogue (no smut), overall wholesome and cute, this is an apology for pts 1 & 2
word count : 1.4k
Tumblr media
Everything was perfect. Flashing lights, cheering crowds, music blaring over speakers. Cherry gets to sing for hundreds of people, gets to live out her dreams with her friends. The parties were great too. Hot guys for her to make out with, lines for her to do with Daisy, drinks that mostly get spilled onto her shirt. Show nights usually ended with her stumbling into her hotel room, usually supported by Graham or Karen.
Tonight, however, was different. She managed to lose all her friends in the crowd of party-goers and was trying to find her way back to her hotel room herself. She jams the key into the lock, jiggles it around a bit, but can’t get the door open.
“Fuck,” she mutters, rubbing at her eyes, smudging her mascara. She takes the key from the lock, jamming it back in and trying again to no avail.
“You need help?” comes a voice from behind her. Cherry turns around and sees her ex-boyfriend, Billy fucking Dunne.
For some godawful reason, Rod decided it would be a good idea for Cherry and Daisy Jones & The Six to tour together, as a unit. There were multiple objections from both Daisy and Cherry, neither of them wanting Cherry to have to face Billy so often. The best Rod could do was to get them separate buses and hotel rooms multiple doors down from each other, most of the time on either ends of the hallways. Despite the precautions, they can’t avoid each other all the time.
“Can’t get this stupid fucking key to work,” she grumbles, avoiding looking at his face. It didn’t help, considering he was in sweatpants and a wifebeater, of which was sticking to his chest with sweat. He had just come back from a run, Billy never attended the afterparties, needing to stay far away from alcohol and drugs and anything he could label as “temptation” after he went to rehab and got sober.
Temptation, which included the very girl that was trying and failing to get into his hotel room.
“Here, let me,” he says, taking his own key from his pocket and opening the door easily. Cherry doesn’t seem to realize that this isn’t her room yet.
She stumbles inside, collapsing on the bed, Billy following behind her. He stands near the door awkwardly, unsure if he should kick her out or help her to her own room or what.
“C’mere,” she mumbles, sitting up slightly on the bed.
He obeys but moves slowly, sitting down besides her. “Are you okay?”
“I’m great,” she grins, crawling onto his lap, straddling him.
“Cherry, what are you doing?” he asks, holding onto her waist to keep her from falling off, but being careful with where he places his hands.
“I miss youuuu,” she says, burying her face in the crook of his neck, starting to pepper little kisses against his skin.
“You’re the one that broke up with me.”
“Yeah. ‘Cause you’re an ass,” she states, pulling away to look at him. “But you’re a pretty ass.”
Billy doesn’t want to laugh at this, it’s a serious situation, but her comment pulls one out of him anyway. “You’re messed up.”
“That’s mean.”
“No, I mean you are quite literally messed up right now. How much have you had tonight?” he asks, pushing some loose strands of hair back from her face.
“Mm, little enough to still consent,” she says, hands moving to creep up under his shirt.
“That’s not—” he starts to correct her but realizes she’s ignoring him, busying herself with trying to tug his shirt off, attacking his neck with her lips and teeth again. “Cherry, stop,” he says firmly, pushing her off of him.
“Why?” she pouts, her lipstick smudged and probably staining the column of his neck, laying back against the pillows now, hair splayed out like a halo around her face.
“Because you’re drunk and doped up and whatever else. And we’re not together anymore.”
“We don’t have to be together,” she insists. “People hook up all the time.”
“I don’t want to be that kind of person,” he says, standing up from the bed. He moves to the mini-fridge in the room, taking out a small bottle of water and returning to her. “Drink,” he orders after unscrewing the bottle cap and pressing it to her lips.
Cherry obeys diligently, some of the water dribbling down her chin. “Thanks,” she mumbles, leaning against his shoulder when she finishes.
“Christ,” is all he says under his breath, shaking his head a bit. “We should get you back into your own room.”
“Why?” she asks. “It’s so far away, and I’m so comfy here. Can’t I stay with you?”
Billy knows he should say no. Knows he should get her back to her own room anyway, try to find Karen or someone to take proper care of her.
Billy Dunne has never been good at saying no.
He gets one of his shirts for her to change into, helps her wipe off her makeup with a damp cloth. He goes to sleep on the little loveseat in the room. It’s cramped, but he wants to be as respectful as possible. His efforts are futile, as while the lights are out, he feels a body cram into the little space there was beside him.
“You should go back to the bed,” he says softly.
“Come with me.”
He doesn’t say no.
The two of them move back into the bed, Cherry immediately cuddling up next to Billy. He tentatively wraps his arms around her, and for a moment in time, everything feels normal. This is what his life should’ve been. Touring with his girl, taking care of her after she gets wasted, holding her and giving her sweet kisses and whispers of—
“I love you,” Cherry murmurs, her voice ringing out clear despite how quiet she was.
“Don’t say that,” Billy says, though he pulls her closer into him.
“Why not?” she asks, adding before he can answer, “I do.”
“You broke up with me.”
“Because you were a dick. An egotistical, self-assured, junkie dick,” she says. “But you’re not anymore. And I think I’ve always loved you, even when you were.”
“Go to sleep, Cherry.”
“Tell me you love me.”
He doesn’t respond, not wanting to say it when she was so drunk she could easily forget it the next morning.
“Billy?” Cherry says, waiting, almost desperate.
“I love you, too.”
‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍
Cherry wakes up the next morning to a pounding headache, but doesn’t seem to mind it, because she was warm and cozy and engulfed in such a comforting smell of cigarette smoke and spearmint. A smell she hadn’t been able to be this close to since she broke up with her boyfriend.
She sits bolt up right, waking up the man beside her.
“Wha— is something wrong? Did something happen?” Billy asks, rubbing sleep from his eyes, sitting up as well.
“What happened last night?” she asks, somewhat panicked.
“You thought my room was yours, I let you in, you came onto me—we didn’t do anything, I swear on my life—I got you to go to sleep, and—” he hesitates to say the last bit.
“And what, Billy?” she presses.
“You told me you still love me.”
“Shit,” she mutters.
“Do you?” he asks.
She doesn’t respond, but the way she looks at him says it all. Her eyes were sleepy but had a pleading look to them, her bottom lip tucked between her teeth as if she was keeping herself from speaking.
“I love you,” he says, cupping her face in his hands. “I’ve always loved you, Cherry. And I’m sorry I was so bad at showing it when I still had you. But if you let me try again, let me just try—”
She cuts him off by crashing her lips against his, morning breath be damned. “I want to try,” she murmurs against his lips.
“Thank God,” he sighs, earning a laugh from her as he kisses her again.
“I want to be with you, Billy,” she says, pulling away to look at him properly.
“I know.”
“And I want to love you again. But that shit you pulled with ‘More Fun To Miss’—”
“It won’t happen again,” he promises. “I swear, if you want me to only write sappy love ballads for the rest of my career, I’d— well, I’d hate it, but I’d do it.”
“I guess I did get even with you. I wrote ‘Regret Me’,” she admits.
“I know,” he says.
“You knew?”
“Daisy showed me her songbook. You really thought I wouldn’t recognize your handwriting?”
She hides her face in his shoulder in embarrassment. “Dammit.”
“Cherry?”
“Yeah?”
“I love you,” he says.
“I love you too, Billy.”

name analysis for my existing readersonas (whether they have intros or not, consider this as crumbs for the ones that i haven’t fully developed yet)
@slfglow this is for u babyyyyy
🍒 cherry (djats) — "cherry bomb" by the runaways. cherries also symbolize love and beauty. in "regret me" she's the reason billy decides to go to rehab. she's the reason he actually works for love rather than thinking he deserves it bc he's "billy fucking dunne." cherry is a catalyst for billy's change into a better person.
the term "popping your/her/my cherry" being used for someone losing their virginity/innocence. the color red is also widely associated with lust and sex, which is an antithesis to the cherry fruit = innocence.
cherry's a balance of both. she's not stupid or naive, but she chose to stay mostly away from drugs when she was in pittsburgh & first came to LA. she'd drink w daisy occasionally but it was mostly just her taking care of daisy after she'd get wasted. she doesn't start using drugs until she gets swept up in the rockstar life, until she gets swept up with LA billy (who is very distinct from pittsburgh billy)
🍯 honey (djats) — honey is just as sweet as her name. her voice is smooth like honey, she strictly drinks the fruity cocktails rockstars dont touch, she stays away from the hard shit, she bakes cookies and has a sour dough starter and fosters kittens and makes oil paintings of pretty landscapes. but honey can be made into mead.
when she needs to be, she's strict. not in a controlling way, but in a "sit your ass down and drink this fucking water you are not taking another shot tonight" which is exactly what eddie needs (though he refuses to admit it) to keep himself from turning into billy.
honey has historically been used for medicinal purposes, and honey is basically the mom-friend of the group. she takes care of everyone after they go too hard, makes sure daisy eats more than one meal a day, will usually be the first one to go to teddy like "hey should we toss billy back into rehab"
🕊 dove (the hunger games) — doves widely symbolize peace, love, and hope, which is the embodiment of what dove is. despite being traumatized in the games and having too much blood on her hands, she shows the world that there's still some hope to be had. she's the embodiment of peace when people need her for a hug or reassuring words. she loves as much as she can, even after developing her trust issues after her games.
when hijacked in 13, she still tries to love finnick, despite everything the capitol had told her. she still has hope for the rebellion, even if so many people believe it's fruitless. she has hope in katniss, who she doesn't know that well, but believes in anyway. not the mockingjay, but katniss everdeen, whose interviews and games she watched.
doves are a symbol of death and rebirth. there are many versions of dove that have died and been born again. pre-games dove into post-games dove. healing dove into hijacked dove. and hijacked dove into just dove. the girl she always was, brought back to a world without the hunger games. a world without fear, where she can love the man she loves and have the family she's always wanted.
🪻viola (tbosas) — viola's name is taken from the main protagonist of shakespeare's "twelfth night." in the play, viola showcases a struggle with love and identity.
my viola struggles greatly with picking between what she loves and crafting new identities for herself. she loves her family and her life in the capitol, but she also loves sejanus. he doesn’t count as district, right? the plinth family is capitol now, is what she keeps trying to convince herself.
there are two violas. the perfect capitol girl. the politician’s daughter. turns her nose up at the gore and violence of the games but doesn’t otherwise have an opinion on them. the districts are below her, why should she care? and there’s sejanus’ viola. a secret rebel, maybe not as much as he is, but she still wants the games to end. she sees sejanus as district but doesn’t look down on him for it. he’s still her equal. he’s still hers, just as much as she’s his. but which viola is the real one?
⚔ laurel (tbosas) — his name is a cruel joke on his fate. laurels were used as a symbol of victory in rome. a tribute in the 10th hunger games, dead before he even entered the arena, laurel is anything but victorious.
the laurel tree is a symbol of the god apollo, the god of the sun and medicine. in the games, laurel focuses on keeping sabyn, his district partner, safe. he makes sure her wounds are treated best as possible, using himself as her shield. he's anything but a ray of sunshine, laurel is quite stoic. he tries to hide when he cares for someone, doesn't let himself be vulnerable. and yet, he's a light in sejanus' life. a glimmer of hope that maybe the two of them could fix this together. that maybe laurel could win the games and sejanus could change panem from the inside out.
laurel was never a victor, despite what his name may lead you to believe. laurel wreaths are crowned on the heads of victors, they aren't victors themselves. he will be the crown on the heads of the members of the rebellion, 65 years later. he will be the laurel branches on the flag of panem after the games are over. he was never a victor himself, but his spirit will crown the victors with laurel wreaths of their own.
🪽 angel (stranger things) — angel is pretty much the opposite of her name. she does well in school, but that's about it. she buys weed from eddie munson, listens to metallica and motley crue, plays the bass guitar and is pissy when eddie doesn't let her be in corroded coffin (though she still plays dungeons and dragons with him. she wont wear the shirt, though. ew.)
despite the hobbies she pursues and the way she acts, angel still looks the part. perfect flowy dresses, hair all done up nice, smile always perfectly placed. she knows what people think of her, tells them to "be not afraid" with her glittery eye shadow and pink lipgloss.
angels are guardians, protectors, and she tries her best to be that for dustin & co. they're her dnd babies, she's their guardian angel. if steve is the mom of the group, angel is the dad. she helps them do the dangerous thing but makes sure they don't get caught or hurt doing it. sneaks the boys beer when they're still underage but keeps them away from weed. she may not be the holiest girl in the world, but she cares. that's all that really matters.

what is cherry's worst ever crashout? 🍒
cherry's worst ever crashout is literally dubbed "the crisis." cherry basically was getting billy out of a tough patch where he nearly relapsed back into alcohol. she was with him literally 24/7 helping him with the cravings, mood swings, emotions, withdrawal symptoms, all of it. then like a week after he started getting better karen caught him with two groupies and told cherry asap.
she literally left town.
no one could find her. she only told daisy where she was going because she knew daisy wouldn't tell anyone anything. it took three weeks for cherry to come home. billy was literally on his knees begging for her forgiveness.
for a month after, she slept in the living room on the couch. ate on that couch, refused to share the bathroom at the same time. it was a really really bad time for everyone because when cherry and billy are miserable, so is everyone.
but like after that month things were normal again.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
melody (daisy jones & the six)
Tumblr media
melody is a rock singer in the 1970s. she befriends warren rojas who introduces her to the band. from there, melody falls in love with billy, determined to make him like her. somehow, it works out very well for her, as billy dunne falls in love with her.
melody is kind hearted, free spirited, but she still is a rockstar. she’s got quick quit, a silver tongue, and a backbone to her, so don’t push her too far.
࿐ timeline
melody and billy meet and she becomes obsessed with bothering him
he hated it and was so sick of her in the beginning
she is convinced she can make him hers and it lowkey ends up working after they kiss at a while songwriting once and just sort of.. become boyfriend/girlfriend over time
they become a very sweet couple, actually. melody gives him the endless, undying love he always wanted and craved
you can find more on melody by using the #melody🎵 hashtag on my page.

sugar (the hunger games)
Tumblr media
sugar is the 69th hunger games victor from district 8. she blends into the capitol well to keep herself safe. she does not like finnick odair in the beginning, but slowly, she learns to trust him. over time, she learns to love him, too.
sugar keeps her guard up. she doesn’t trust easily and comes off cold and calculated. deep down, all she wants is to be able to trust someone again and receive love. it just takes her a while to open up again.
࿐ timeline
reaped into the 69th hunger games. her arena was a shifting biomes arena. she won by adapting to the biome shifts and using it to her advantage.
she met finnick before the first round of interviews. he offered her a sugar cube and she threw it at him, angry she was in the games in the first place.
at a watch party, sugar watches her tribute that she truly believed in die. finnick took her to a seperate room and comforted her for as long as she allowed, which wasn’t long.
kissed haymitch at some point but that’s irrelevant.
you can find more on sugar by using the #sugar🍰 hashtag on my page.
Tumblr media
cherry (daisy jones & the six)
Tumblr media
cherry is a groupie in the 1970s. she is very picky with who she chooses to give her attention to. after meeting bully dunne, she quickly begins to give all her attention to him, leading to the most drama you could ever imagine a rock group to have.
cherry is a wild child. she’s fun, energetic, and lively. she’s young and free. however, this can get her into tough situations sometimes, especially being from a totally different world than the rockstars she surrounds herself with.
࿐ timeline
cherry meets eddie and hooks up with him at a dive bar.
she asks eddie to introduce her to his band and he says yes. she sees billy and instantly decides that she has to be with him. so, she sleeps with him.
they instantly become obsessed with each other after and start a relationship that goes unlabeled for a while, but they are dating. eddie is pissed off he lost cherry.
the next night they also sleep together and the next morning billy takes her to brunch which is their “first date”-ish.
you can find more on cherry by using the #cherry🍒 hashtag on my page.
Tumblr media
darling (daisy jones & the six)
Tumblr media
darling is eddie roundtree's girlfriend and stage manager for daisy jones & the six. however, deep down, darling's true love is camila dunne, her best friend and billy dunne's ex-wife.
darling is a true angel. soft spoken, big heart, sweet eyes and voice. she’s gentle and wears her heart on her sleeve.
࿐ timeline
was djats’ stage manager before she got with eddie. she was with him for around a year before they broke up.
after cami and billy divorced, they moved in with darling where their relationship blossomed slowly from their close friendship
you can find more on darling by using the #darling🧸 hashtag on my page.
Tumblr media
lace (daisy jones & the six)
Tumblr media
lace is warren rojas's girlfriend. lace is a fashion designer who is known for being fashion forward and best of the best, especially for her young age. she's very picky with who she works with, but she agrees to work with daisy jones & the six where she quickly falls for warren.
lace is very grounded and calm. she’s got a soft-spoken voice that just sounds like silk. she’s level headed, a much needed contrast to warren’s lively and crazy rockstar life and personality.
࿐ timeline
met warren at her studio for the first time before djats' tour
you can find more on lace by using the #lace🪡 hashtag on my page.
Tumblr media
poppy (the hunger games)
Tumblr media
poppy is the victor of the 71st hunger games from district 12 (johanna won the 72nd in this world). she helped raise most of the younger mellark children, especially peeta. she is his protector. while katniss may be haymitch’s, peeta is poppy’s. she was peeta’s main mentor in his game. she met finnick odair in the capitol. they corresponded over secret messages until the quarter quell. they slowly fell in love without hardly ever seeing each other.
poppy is sweet. she isn't a fighter, but she can play the capitol's game. she's kind to everyone, but don't mistake her kindness for weakness. she's very smart and understand the capitol better than any victor.
࿐ timeline

you can find more on poppy by using the #poppy🌸 hashtag on my page.

raindrop (the hunger games)
Tumblr media
raindrop is president snow’s eldest granddaughter. capitol born and raised, her life only really begins to change when she meets finnick odair, a victor only a year older than her. when they fall in love, it’s both the best and worst thing to ever happen to them.
raindrop starts out a little naive, knowing what her family does is bad but refusing to believe it. when she gets close to finnick, she sees it, and the fire of rebellion sparks in her. she's immensely brave, outspoken, and kind hearted.
