He is startled awake by the ringing of his cell bars... He doesn't even know how long he's been here... Days. Weeks. It could have been minutes for all he knows.

He groggily realizes someone is talking to. Something about his master not even being able to finish the job correctly. That couldn't be right he doesn't have a master.

his musings are cut short when something smacks him in the face. He peers at the offending object and blearily readreads the headline stating "THE BOY-WHO-LIVES RETURNS HOME" when he's jerked into attentiveness by the picture on the front page

It's Harry... His Harry. But that can't be right Harry's only a toddler.. This Harry is way too old. Before he can make out more of the details the paper is suddenly ripped out his grasp.

Nooooo he tries to scream but it comes out more as a whimper.

The guard finds this funny for some reason as he snarls at him "you'll never lay a finger on the boy. You failed, you piece of scum." He then hears a clanging as the unknown guard walks away.

The preceding nights are the worst he remembers as he continuously relives the worst night of his life.

He's sprinting up the steps. Not even processing the blown apart roof. All he sees is the door blasted off its hinges.

He immediately comes across the first body and collapses immediately.

"Nooooo" he able to scream this time. "James what have I done!! It's all my bloody fault".

He's jerked outta his self loathing because he just knows he needs to see the confirmation of his greatest failure.

As he stands up he whispers "we'll see each other soon Prongs. I promise you that."

He doesn't know how much longer it is but he's thankfully pulled from the nightmare of reliving finding James' prone body next to the couch by the rattling of his cell.

He blearily stares up at his cell door when he recognizes Moody and no that's not right nymphy is a little girl. And she'd never look at him with such disgust.

But no it's not Moody or even his little cousin that grabs his attention. It's another newspaper headline but this time it proclaims loudly "HARRY POTTER MEETS FAMED GILDEROY LOCKHART!"

He reaches out as if it's a lifeline. He's older this time but he can tell it's been a year maybe two this time. He whimpers out a soft "I'll find you Harry".

"not on my watch you wont black" Moody sneers.

If he thought his dreams were bad after the previous newspaper he was sadly mistaken. It's as if the dementors could sense the new happiness inside him

He doesn't know how but he's able to drag himself up the stairs.

Another door blasted apart. "oh Lils why didn't you take Harry and flee. It's all my fault."

He collapses the second time that night next to the body of his sister. The person who knows him better than anyone besides James. The one who understands his terrible family only like someone who can because of shared experiences.

He can't even muster a cry of anguish this time as hot tears cascade down his cheeks. He doesn't even immediately feel the frigid cold November night air against his skin.

It's the soft voices this time that wake him from his self hatred. He's not even sure why he asks for the newspaper he sees the man holding. He deludes himself it's for the crossword, like he could possibly solve it in his current state. But it's definitely not for the infinitesimal chance to see his godson on the front page.

He does a quick glance at the front page and sighs in disappointment when he doesn't see Harry. He barely registers the story on the bottom with a picture of smiling happy family before he angrily tosses it into the corner.

Why was he being so stupid to think he would actually see Harry again.

It's hours later or maybe it's days or weeks who knows in this godforsaken place he definitely deserves to be in when he finally gives the photo at the bottom more than a passing glance.

He doesn't know how long he's staring at the photo trying to convince himself of what he's actually seeing.

"there's no way. He was never quicker than me. My curse hit him." But there's no denying that rat sitting on the boys shoulder is THE RAT. the rat that betrayed them all.

He should have known better than to think his nightmares couldn't get worse after seeing his godson for the first time in the previous articles. Since when did things ever work out for him. He's a Black for crying out loud. Nothing but destruction followed his wake. So in a twisted way he knew he deserved the horrors that awaited him that night.

That's when he finally hears it. The whimper that would haunt him forever. The whimper of his godson calling for him "pa'foo!!"

He's on his feet and at the crib and picking Harry up in an instant. Every other thought immediately leaving his mind.

He's so focused on consoling Harry he doesn't even see the blood trickling down his forehead

"ssshhhh Harry. It's ok. I'm here kiddo. Sirius is here buddy." He knows he's lying to the kid but he knows he needs to be strong for him.

He carefully hides his godsons face in his neck as he carefully steps over Lily to take him downstairs and away from the horrors within.

One of my biggest pet peeves about romance novels is when they don't properly advertise the subgenres, like I just started reading a new one and 8 pages in they just nonchalantly announce the MC is psychic like????

Or like the time I bought one from a thrift store and three chapters in you find out the male love interest is a time traveling highlander, or the other book where the lady could communicate with animals

it's just annoying bc it's never mentioned on the back cover summary or anything, and it's so rarely done well that I wouldn't have bought the books if I knew they had those elements

Don’t you hate when you find a new series, plow through it as fast as your eyes will let you and you come to the most recent book that’s been released and suddenly you just want to savor it. But at the same time you NEED to know what happens next. BOOKS

1. The three body problem, by Cixin Liu

The first book in a trilogy, this is a hard sci-fi. The story ties to the history of China in the 20th century as well as the Cold War, as well as concepts of astrophysics, while creating an impending sense of dread to tell its story. Are we alone in the universe? And if we are not, should we really want to know?

2. Project Hail Mary, by Andy Weir

Another sci-fi book, this one dealing also with aliens... Except in a very different way. The story slowly unfolds as out main protagonist and narrator starts remembering it. It's funny, endearing and also (surprisingly) very, very cute. There are talks of a movie adaptation and for once, I'm very excited about that prospect.

3. Acts of desperation, by Megan Nolan

I think this is the hardest to digest book I've ever read. As we follow the innermost thoughts of our nameless narrator/protagonist, she tells a story of pure desperation following a toxic relationship. The book deals with depression, harassement, sexual assault, abuse, drug use, alcoholism, self harm and eating disorders, among others. Truly devastating, bleak readread that shows some of the nastiest things in human nature.

4. No longer human, by Osamu Dazai

Another bleak reading, this one is very short --but that doesn't make it any less heavy. One of the most depressing books you will find out there, it also deals with the internal turnmoil of it's titular character. I love the Spanish title for this book, which translates to "unworthy of being human". And that really is what this is about. It also deals with themes of suicide, alcoholism and sexual abuse. It hits different when knowing it's partly autobiographical.

5. Pachinko, by Min Jin Lee

Mind you, I have a sense this book is very Christian. After all the main characters in the story are Christian. Here we have an intergenerational story presented in a simple, almost biographical style, following a Korean family that inmigrates to Japan during the colonial era. Through the central character Sunja, we follow the complex history of 20th century Korea and the trials and tribulations of the inmigrant experience, love, loss, trauma, acceptance and, perhaps, success.

6. Dictator, by Robert Harris

This is the third and final book in Robert Harris' Cicero trilogy which, as the name suggests, follows the life of Roman orator and politician Cicero. Here we see his final years coupled with Caesar's ascension to power and downfall. It was a good closure to an otherwise very good trilogy.

Special mentions: Perfume (Patrick Suskind), Love in the times of cholera (Gabriel Garcia Marquez), Circe (Madeline Miller), Evidence of the affair (Taylor Jenkins Reid).

Remus,I fear too much what you will think of me if I stumble over my words and irrationally confess to you what I think of you. I’m in love with you and I’m so fucking terrified to tell you. I’m scared to look you in the eye and tell you the truth that I’ve denied for so long. I’m scared to tell you how much I want your lips on mine. How I wonder what it feels like to be in your embrace for hours, not just a hug hello and goodbye. How it must feel for you to look me in the eye and tell me you love me with as much fervor as a being is capable of. Rem. Why do I always have more and more questions to ask you when we spend time together? They plague my mind with waves of dread and I honestly don’t know what it is you want me to do. I’ve tried to write this a million times over where every line isn’t a fucking question. Do you not know how it feels for someone to tell you they love you, they would do anything for you, except for letting the world know about them? I mean honestly, what kind of game are you playing? I wish I could confront you in person but I can't. That's the same reason we’re in this situation now. If i had just talked to you in person and not written the damn letter in the first place maybe this wouldn’t have happened. Maybe everybody would know about us, or you would have been able to reject me without being able to think of how you would use my devotion to you for your own gain. But you know I can’t confront you. Not with the way you look at me, do you do it on purpose? Do you think it’s fun? Do you look at the way you tower over me and know you have power? Do you think my love is a power play? Every morning I see you and I hope you pretend I exist that day. I wish you would acknowledge me. I fucking pray that you treat me just as you do at the end of each day. That you take my hand and bring it to your lips and tell me you love me. I love you. Tell me I made it clear that my heart is yours and not as a toy.

Remus, there's a ringing in my ears and it reminds me of all the times you proved your love to me. I vowed to secrecy, to always keep alive the tale of you and me. And although we didn't make it past our mistakes, I still vow to keep myself sane. I don't exist to you anymore, just a fond memory of self discovery. finding out whether or not I was good for you. In the end, it turns out I wasn't.I still long for the days where I'd have you close to me, and you'd swore to always, always love me. Maybe always just isn't meant to be. If you hurt me any longer, if I allow you, I won't be able to last. So maybe it's time for me to get along with life. I'll always love you, you'll always be mine, until the end of time.
