summary: jessie feels the same frustrations as you do.

back at ucla, you first noticed jessie because she was that quiet, intense girl with a soccer ball under her arm and her headphones on, always looking like she had somewhere important to be. 

she was a star on the field, and you were captivated, especially during one game when she completely dominated, her focus and skill undeniable. 

after the game, a mutual friend introduced you, and you were immediately drawn to her warmth and quiet confidence.

the weeks that followed were full of late-night study sessions, long conversations, and games where you cheered her on from the stands. she started coming to your theatre performances, too, even when they meant sitting through hours of experimental plays or improv. 

overtime, you guys started dating. it's been three years with the canadian and you both had big dreams, with her on the verge of a professional soccer career and you ready to dive headfirst into the world of acting.

in 2018, you got your big break with stranger things, and within months of season three’s release in 2019, your life changed. fans loved your character, heather, and suddenly, everywhere you went, people recognized you. 

jessie was there, watching from across the ocean after joining chelsea in london in 2020. you visited as often as you could, but with each year, the goodbyes got harder. juggling your career with twelve-hour flights became a challenge, and though you were proud of jessie and everything she’d achieved, the longing for a life together poked at you.

during a recent visit to london, you sit down with her in the dim light of her apartment, trying to find the right words.

“jess, i don’t know how much longer i can keep doing this,” you admit, fingers fiddling with the hem of your sleeve as you glance up at her.

she watches you, her brown eyes soft, concerned. 

“what do you mean… like… the long distance?”

“yeah. it’s…hm.. every time i come here, i feel like i’m stealing little moments of a life that could be ours,” you say, sighing. 

“and then i go back to la, and it’s like i’m just waiting to see you again. i know it sounds selfish, but… it’s hard seeing other people moving in together, planning their lives with their partners.”

she nods slowly, looking down. 

“i get it. and it’s not selfish. honestly… i feel it, too. every time you leave, it just feels like something’s missing.” she sighs, leaning back against the couch. 

“sometimes i wonder if… maybe i’m holding onto something that’s keeping me from what i actually want.”

you look at her, heart pounding. 

“jessie, what are you saying?”

“i'm saying i might not renew my contract with chelsea…” she shrugs, giving you a small, almost shy smile. 

“i’ve been thinking about it. my contract’s ending soon, and if i stayed, it’d mean more of this… this distance but if there’s a way for us to be together, really together, i think that’s what i want now.”

the relief in your chest is immediate, and you can’t help the way your face lights up. 

“jessie, i can’t believe… you’d do that?”

she reaches over, taking your hand in hers. 

“i would. for us.”

a few weeks later, you’re back in los angeles, barely holding yourself together after reading a script from a commercial you’re casted in. 

as you decide to put the stack of papers down to take a break, there’s a knock at your door. you’re not expecting anyone, so you’re surprised to open it and find jessie standing there, holding a suitcase, her face glowing with excitement.

“jessie? what… what are you doing here?” your eyes flick to her suitcase, heart pounding.

“hey,” she says softly, her smile widening. 

“i have some news.”

your heart races as she pauses, letting you soak in the moment. “so, i’m not with chelsea anymore. i signed with the portland thorns,” she finally says, biting her lip like she’s holding back a huge grin.

“wait… you’re… you’re back? like, for good?” you barely dare to believe it, eyes widening as you look from her to the suitcase.

she laughs, stepping inside and setting her bag down. 

“yeah, i’m back. i mean, i’ll still be based in portland, but it’s only a two-hour flight. and i thought… maybe we could finally talk about moving in together?”

you pull her into a hug, holding her close as her words sink in, feeling the warmth of her body against yours after so long. 

“jessie, i can’t believe you actually did this.”

she laughs, wrapping her arms around you tighter. 

“believe it, love. i’m here. and this time, i’m staying.”

THEODORE DE VITIS GUTIERREZ. a risk mclaren was willing to take, and then took. the italian born, half native american driver made headlines as he took the place of norris in formula one’s mclaren racing team mid 2023 season. fans were in outrage at the decision some considered to be too hasty. outrage poured once again as it was revealed theo was already set to drive for the 2024 season with a contract that, according to leaks, had been drafted up at the start of the 2023 season, ready to be signed at any moment. fans of the beloved team now scold them as they simultaneously hold theo to high standards for his entrance into formula one, and the remainder of the 2023 season. (theo pictured below.)

Junior Racing Career

theo began karting at age nine. competing in local and international competitions. he won several trophies for single races, as well as a few trophies for karting championships. even winning the junior class FIA Karting World Championship title in his early teens. eventually he moved up into the lower formula divisions, where he met a good portion of his friends in formula 1, even if for a moment. but especially oscar piastri, the two first met in:

2016. F4 UAE Championship. both were at the age of 14 towards the beginning of the year. and both were on team Dragon F4. being teammates allowed their companionship to grow more than it would have otherwise.

2017. F4 British Championship. he was 15, later turning 16. and was on the team Carlin.

2018. Formula Renault Eurocup. as he entered, he was 16, 17 when he won and moved on to the next formula. he was on the team Arden alongside Oscar Piastri during his time there.

2019. FIA F3 Championship. as his close friend, oscar piastri, stayed in the eurocup championship, theo moved on. now 17, he races for MP Motorsport with Liam Lawson as his teammate.

2020. FIA F3 Championship. 18 years old, turning 19 by the time he wins second place. drives with the team Hitech Grand Prix alongside Liam Lawson. Piastri wins the championship.

2021. FIA F2 Championship. driving for Prema Racing with Oscar Piastri as him teammate, both boys are 19 at the start of the season, 20 at the end. Oscar wins the championship, theo getting a close second.

2022. FIA F2 Championship. 20 years old as he starts his final season in lower formula championships. driving for MP Motorsport with Felipe Drugovich as his teammate. finishing off the season, now at age 21, with another world championship title, this one F2, majority race wins, and leading the championship for the entirety of the 2022 season.

Love Life of a Formula 1 Driver

getting to know and becoming best friends with oscar was one thing for theo. something he was thankful for. their bond gave theo something more to enjoy when racing and something to distract himself from the worry of not making it. however, falling for said best friend, at the ripe age of 16, after 2 years of knowing him, is another monster all together. not that theo was unaware of his sexuality, he was just too busy for relationships most of the time. he also felt that having romantic feelings for his best friend was a complicated matter. too complicated. too worrying. because he had fantasies now, things he wanted to become more. along with a fear of what it would take to get there and the risks involved with trying. so he dropped the idea of possibilities. but never got rid of the fantasies entirely, they were small fleeting thoughts that made him smile before the anxiety spiked and he quickly shooed the thoughts away.

not long after theo grew his feelings, oscar began to harbor the same ones. he would tell you that they came out of nowhere. what he doesn’t realize is that small pieces of theo’s behavior towards oscar had shifted when he started crushing. the way he looked at him, treated him, talked to him, it was softer. these changes weren’t outright noticed, they did however affect their dynamic. their was something different in the air, they didn’t entirely talk like they were two best friends. oscar was smiling more, replicating the softness theo shared with him. which opened something up in him. he didn’t fully understand where some of the newly developed nervousness came from. or the icky feeling he’d get when theo would say he couldn’t hang out, and that he already had plans. but he figured it out soon enough.

three years later. at the Monaco GP for the formula 2 championship. theodore gutierrez started P14 in qualifying. his Prema teammate, Oscar Piastri, started P8. as the final race raged on, the teammates were at heads as they fought for the third step on the podium. before the race could end the two crashed at the nouvelle chicane. the pair came out unscathed, but theo was furious at his best friend. yelling at him quickly before making his way back to the garage. fans of the sport and their friendship worried as the taller of the two refused to speak to the other after his outburst. only speaking to reporters, meeting with the team and then leaving.

in reality, theo was mad. but not mad that oscar made him lose his chance at another podium. rather that oscar took a risk that could have cost him his life on such a dangerous track. he was mad that oscar had no sense of self preservation in that moment. he was mad that he almost lost his best friend. he stewed in that anger and fear for the rest of the day. and when he got back to his hotel room that night, oscar came to his door. he came with hopes of begging for his friends forgiveness. that it was a stupid fight to have. and theo let him in, but he didn’t let him get a single word he wanted to say into the conversation. instead it was one sided as he shouted at him again. most of the words he had said before. he knew trying to get a word in would be fruitless. so before the lecture could go on too long, oscar grabbed the man, stopping his pacing. he told him to breathe as he guided him to sit down with him. and theo did, he took deep breaths. and as he calmed, he rested his head on his teammate, relaxing while oscar played with the hair on his head. nothing out of the ordinary for the two. until theo raised his head. and their faces were so close that oscar just gave in. theo was entirely shocked, but he welcomed it. kisses spread to other places. hands wandered. and bodies were explored as they spent the night together. after, laying in the aftermath, they talked and confessed. happiness infected every inch of theo’s hotel room. and they both had seemingly gotten exactly what they wanted.

sometime before their next race, however, oscar had spoken with a friend. shared to him about that night. to which that friend shared what the dangers a relationship like that leaking could bring to both of their careers. that scared oscar. he knew theo was terribly anxious about all his hard work amounting to nothing. so when it came time to race around the baku circuit, oscar was distant. full on dodging him at any whiff of theo’s presence. to the general public it seemed that the two best friends were no longer speaking after the crash at monaco. but to theo, it was very confusing. and he never got an answer for it. for the rest of the championship, if theo tried to talk with oscar he’d say “i’m busy right now, maybe later.” then ghost him without explanation. before long though, theo grew tired of the chase and gave up, eventually all out avoiding the man back. oscar would go on to win the F2 championship that year, moving on and becoming Alpine’s reserve driver as theo continued in F2 for the following year. theo and oscar continued to avoid each other if they crossed paths as theo raced his heart out in 2022. he would go on to win the title of 2022 F2 World Champion, getting to go to the FIA Prize Giving Ceremony once again during his career.

making a friend for benefits. the ceremony was… boring. and theo sat through it until, the F1 world champion at that time, Max Verstappen found a moment to invite him to an after party. he agreed. and later on, after the event, theo found his way to the venue. max seemed very keen on having all his attention on theo. subtle flirting found its way in between chats meant for getting to know his younger companion. and as the time passed and the two drank more the flirting became less subtle and more requited. the event for them ended with kissing and a whispered idea on getting out of there early. max paid for a hotel room for the night and the two men made work of it. this wasn’t a one time occurrence, that was never the intention. and the two would meet again a few times before the 2023 season.

as the 2023 season started, theo was now a McLaren reserve driver, and was also, once again, at every race. oscar however was too, of course, as he became one of the two formula 1 drivers for the team McLaren. this making avoiding each other, for these two, much more difficult when they share a garage and hospitality. max and theo remained close, to the general public it read as good friends. to the drivers (and oscar) it read as… suspicious. oscar, as a whole, didn’t like it, his instinctive response was to talk to theo. not about max, but just to try and be friends with theo. start fresh and new. be close again. (as a bonus, maybe get in between him and max). but the man wouldn’t have it, oscar trying to talk to him made theo mad, now with a passion to more actively try and avoid oscar.

new opportunities. lando norris broke his leg the week before the australian grand prix. and as a reserve driver, theodore gutierrez had to step in for him until norris healed entirely. the chance theo was given lasted approximately ten race weeks (nearly 5 months). but not only did he have to drive in landos place, he had to take landos place for press duties… with oscar. it started to get harder to avoid oscar, because of this. and with all the time they were forced to spend together, it was also harder to keep his walls up with him. as he was faced with race after race, he did extraordinarily well. gaining points for McLaren that norris was failing to achieve. theo’s first points in F1 prompted the first sincere physical contact between him and oscar since that night two years ago. the two embraced, oscar initiating the congratulatory hug. as soon as they pulled apart, however, max was next. the elder driver hugging and even grabbing theo’s waist. and oscar’s gut twisted at the sight. for the rest of the year, as theo reverts back to reserve driver, before eventually replacing lando for the remainder of the season. the rookie driver has to juggle his still present feelings for his teammate as he has a sexual relationship with his now coworker and close friend, at the same time.

Takuma Sato’s Letter to the Brickyard

To the fans of the Indianapolis 500,

As a young boy growing up in Japan, I remember catching a glimpse of this massive event in the United States — the Indianapolis 500. I was probably too young to fully understand what it was or what it was all about. But I’ll never forget that moment. The sheer size of the event, the number of people, the energy — it touched me deeply. How could that many people all be in one place to witness the same thing? Even from across the world, it left a mark on me. I knew then that I needed to see it in person. At the time, I didn’t dare dream of participating — much less winning it.

Years later, I had the privilege of racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2003 in Formula 1 for the first time. It was my first time experiencing The Brickyard in person. In 2004, on my second visit to the Speedway, was my first F1 podium. One of my proudest moments of my time in Formula 1, and it happened at the Speedway. I felt the history in the air, but it wasn’t until I came back in INDYCAR that I truly understood what the Indianapolis 500 means — not just to racing, but to people.

In 2010, I made my first start in the Indy 500. It was the beginning of a new chapter, and the beginning of a long, respectful relationship with this iconic race. The 500 doesn’t give you anything easily. It tests you, teaches you, and waits until you are truly ready.

That test came in 2012. On the final lap, racing side-by-side with Dario Franchitti, I saw the chance to win. I tried to make the move cleanly — perhaps too cleanly — and ended up in the wall. It was painful, but I never felt more connected to the Speedway. The next year, in 2013, I will never forget walking out to driver introductions and hearing the fans cheer for me after coming so close the year before. That moment showed me the kind of fans this place has — people who respect heart, effort and commitment just as much as they respect winning.

Over the years, I’ve had the honor of meeting so many of you — at appearances, in the paddock, around town — and the stories you’ve shared are incredible. The family traditions passed down through generations, the memories made at the track, the loyalty and love for this race... it’s unlike anything else in the world. I remember one fan telling me he had moved to Speedway, Indiana just so he could have a Speedway address — because of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. That level of passion is something I carry with me every time I race here.

From 2012 forward, I spent six years learning, preparing, and waiting for the right opportunity. In 2017, everything came together. We ran a smart, aggressive race with Andretti Autosport and reached the top. I became the first Japanese driver to win the Indianapolis 500. The feeling of kissing the bricks, holding the milk and seeing my name alongside the legends... it’s something I will treasure forever.

In 2019, I pushed as hard as I could chasing Simon Pagenaud and Alexander Rossi, finishing third. Indy reminded me that even a perfect effort doesn’t always guarantee the top step. But the pursuit itself is its own reward.

Then, in 2020, we executed a nearly perfect race and won the 500 for the second time. But it was different — bittersweet. The grandstands were empty due to the pandemic. The silence after the checkered flag reminded me how essential you are. Without the fans, the victory felt incomplete.

You’ve always treated me with such warmth and respect. You've welcomed me not just as a competitor, but as someone who loves this race deeply and honors its traditions. And I’ve always tried to return that respect — through my racing, my attitude and my gratitude.

The Indianapolis 500 is more than a race. It’s a living tradition, a cultural phenomenon and a deeply personal journey. For me, it started as a young boy on the other side of the world, watching a race I didn’t fully understand — but knew I wanted to be a part of.

Thank you for letting me live that dream. And thank you for making it greater than anything I could have imagined.

Long distance troubles - N. Hischier

When Two Sports Collide | previous chapter timeline: September 2019 - December 2020 summary: Lisa thought that she and Nico became friends during pandemic, just for him to cut her off when he returned to Europe and left her confused warning: mentions of COVID, mentions of injury, swear words note: i finished the whole story and i'm so excited to post the rest of the chapters!

Lisa smiled when she saw that Nico followed her back but her confidence that she had yesterday, to know him more disappeared. She decided to ignore it and wait for a moment to write to him. As much as she wanted to talk with him, she was aware that both of them are in a relationship and it might look suspicious. Lisa flew back home and focused on the start of the season, completely forgetting this hockey guy.

Second season for Lisa started great. Her team was winning almost every single match and they ended the year 2019 in great spirits. Since it was National Team time for handball, she had free time and decided to go with Sander to England. She wanted to support him because he started playing for a new team and helped him with moving on there. After New Years Eve, the Norwegian League returned to playing but this didn’t last long for Lisa. During one of the games, she picked a serious injury.

It’s been two months since Lisa’ operation. She was slowly coming back to her strength when the pandemic hit. Everything was locked and she couldn’t even travel to be with her family back in Trondheim. She was stuck in Kristiansand by herself because Sander was in London where he was playing. She tried to occupy her mind with tv shows and movies, especially since the league was cancelled. 

When Nico found out about Lisa’s injury, he wrote her a message with best of wishes in recovery. He was keeping her company on long distance. He was stuck in New Jersey by himself because Maya was studying in Bern. She didn’t expect that but they started talking more and more. She was teaching him everything about handball while he was teaching her about hockey.

“You got a red card because you pulled another girl by her hair?” Nico said amused.

“Yeah” Lisa laughed at the memory. “It was bad but I lost it at that moment. And to be honest, she was pissing me off the whole game”

“I didn’t know you’re aggressive like that” 

“I am not! Well, maybe sometimes but enough of me. Have you ever been sent off the ice?” Lisa asked.

“No, I’m always playing fair play” Nico said proudly.

“Bullshit! I don’t believe you” 

“Why?” 

“You look like a guy who likes to fight” Nico looked shocked at her.

“And you don’t look like a girl who likes to pull others hair because she’s mad at them”

“It was one time!” Lisa growled while he was laughing. 

They bonded during these months where they were stuck by themselves but in June, Nico cut the contact with her off. He didn't send her birthday wishes and he stopped responding to her messages. Lisa didn’t know why he changed his behaviour towards her. When she saw Maya’s insta story with Lottie and Nico, she realised that he returned to Switzerland for the summer. She started wondering if she was only for his entertainment during the pandemic months but quickly stopped thinking about it. 

Lisa moved on with her life. She came back to trainings. Being fit and ready to play was everything that was important for her at that moment. Lottie and Sander were next to her all the journey and she was thankful for having them. She missed the first month of the games but in October, she finally got the green light to return.

Lisa saw that Nico liked her post and laughed. She couldn’t believe that he wasn’t responding to her but was in her likes. This whole situation was hilarious for her. Lottie thought the same. She saw him and Maya in summer and he acted like Lisa doesn’t exist every time she mentioned her. Two friends had fun about this and the way he was acting. 

“I completely don’t get it. He forgot about my existence for four months just to like my instagram post? Ridiculous” Lisa laughed.

“I don’t know what to tell you. He’s acting like you’re his side chick that he needs to hide from Maya when you know her and she knows you” Lottie said.

“Right? And I’m in a relationship too so I seriously don’t know why he decided to stopped talking to me” 

“He’s just an idiot for that. Ignore it Lisa. You’re better than him” 

“I should but I really want to know what happened. I thought we’re friends” Lisa sighed.

“I’ll talk to Maya and maybe she’ll know something more” Lottie proposed. 

“I don’t know if this is a good idea. I don’t want them to argue, who knows how she’s gonna act when she finds out that her boyfriend was talking for three months with another woman”

“You have a point… Just leave it behind and let the world decide what’s next” 

“Okay, let the world decide” Lisa giggled.

Sander didn’t find it funny when Lisa told him about this. He felt jealous that she was talking with him during lockdown. He wasn't a possessive type but now, when he heard the story, he started. Lisa never gave him a reason for that but her talking with Nico was suspicious for him. She tried to explain it to him, but he didn't want to listen. They’ve been on long distance since he moved and preferred to be careful. She decided to accept his change, knowing there’s no point to argue over something that’s not existing.

“You’re making a problem where there’s none” Lisa argued.

“I just don’t like you being all friendly with him. What’s so tough to understand?” Sander stated.

“Your behaviour is tough to understand” Lisa rolled her eyes. “We were just talking, nothing happened. He’s in America and I’m in Norway”

“Why are you acting so defensive?” Sander placed his hands on hip.

“Why are you acting like a dick?” 

“You’re emotional” Sander signed. “I just… I feel bad knowing that you’ve talked for three months with a different guy. Non stop to add”

“Baby, we’re together. I would never do anything to ruin our relationship. I love you and only you” Lisa hugged him. “Plus he’s in a relationship and I would never ruin another woman's happiness” She placed a kiss on his lips.

In November, to her surprise, Lisa was called up for the National Team. It was a dream for her to represent Norway and now she got the chance. She never thought that after her injury, she’ll be back in her form and the fact that she was in the squad just month after the recovery got her confidence back. 

Whole tournament was successful for Norway. They didn’t lose a game and celebrated a win. Lisa became champion of Europe. This was her first big win and she couldn’t believe it. At the beginning of the year, she was wondering if she’s even gonna come back to playing and now, she could celebrate being European champion.

do u watch the sonic movies just for agent stone and robotnik

i mean... originally i was going to, yeah! the exact moment the first ever trailer dropped (april 30, 2019) i was already enamored with jim carrey robotnik, and ready to accept that even if sonic's design didn't get changed (which, come on, this is hollywood... usually if an adaptation sucks then it sucks til the bitter end. some of us certainly didnt see the redesign coming), this movie would be my cult classic. flop or no flop. ugly or pretty sonic.

i guess because... i saw a lot of myself in the spin jim was putting on the character! eggman had always been the sonic character that fascinated me the most as i played all the mario & sonic crossover games as a kid, but the particular interpretation of this robotnik- flowing black coats with red trim, someone who grew up as a very lonely kid and so now compensates with leaning into the "lone wolf of evil" aesthetic, someone who has a hard time emoting and feels more like machine than a person so compensates with BIG, LOUD THEATRICS, and a BOMBASTIC TONE OF VOICE! i looked at him and i saw me. i know it sounds a little silly and a lot of jimbotnik's traits come from the fact that that's just jim carrey's style of humour and slapstick but he's just always been kinda special to me even from the beginning.

but yknow, then sonic's design gets fixed! exciting! and february 2020 rolls around, the EXCITEMENT is in the AIR. me i was always going to be fine, nothing about rob needed to be fixed, but now people are actually EXCITED for the movie! YAY!! i head into the movie, and robotnik is everything i could have ever wanted and more. he's silly. he's COOL. he has his own DANCE SCENE. but then i keep getting flashbanged by these SCENES where robotnik keeps getting like, really handsy with his little assistant he has? like he's putting his hands in his mouth and telling him to pin himself against the wall? and then this emotionally-constipated MESS of a man shouts "I LOVE THE WAY YOU MAKE THEM???" WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WAIT WE'RE JUST MOVING ON? ARE WE GONNA GO BACK? NO?! OKAY!!

so obviously im in love with them. with that aspect of the movie. this improvised relationship where both actors asked themselves the question "wait, if robotnik hates humans, why does he keep this one around?" and that question would stick with me for all these 3 movies. it's just so interesting to think about. not to mention how well stone and robotnik just work together as an onscreen duo

but, y'know, then i started really liking the movie's strange, wacky style of storytelling and jokes- i had never seen a cgi animal movie that took the human characters THIS seriously yknow? and by that i mean characters like tom are goofy ofc but it feels like in movies like smurfs they almost want you to not care about the humans, but here, you have stone going from Figurehead for Robotnik's Parade of Black Suits to Guy Who Genuinely Has An Emotional B-Plot In Sonic 3, because of the love fans showed for the character and for how jim carrey and lee majdoub played off each other. even characters like maddie get more in movie 2 because of how tika sumpter said she wanted her character to do more LIKE... LIKE?!

the humour really gets me too, its so strange in a fun way i love. if i was just watching it for rob and stone i wouldnt be watching the knuckles show. ive grown to ADORE the world of the sonic movies, and the actual superpowered animals are cute too! i like their designs, and yknow, this love i have for the sonic movies HAS inspired me to check out more of the games, the shows, the comics, not only to see more of my beloved robotnik (who, yes, i love EVERY version of now. no version of the eggman can escape my love. he is the perfect man) but also to see the other parts of sonic lore because even if it's not like sonic is my fav of all time... i like the storytelling now!!

but stuff like that- my entire lil rant- i think it's why i try not to get gatekeepy when it comes to fandom. because for every series you were there for in the beginning and have an encyclopedic knowledge of, you will have another one where you're only there for a small part or only have a casual enjoyment of. i like to afford other people that kindness because there come times and places when i will be a casual enjoyer of something, and hopefully people will afford that kindness back to me. because even if i do explore other parts of sonic lore and diligently appreciate all parts of the movie, maybe the fact that i'm so robotnik-&-stone centric is still being too much of a casual for some people. maybe i'm only a fairweather fan. even so- even if people think i'm only watching these movies for rob & stone-

You are so right about the team and orders. In Hungary when they guilt tripped Lando into fixing their own mistake, the team told him “you can’t win a championship on your own, you’ll need Oscar” okay like when are you going to make that happen? When is Oscar going to pay that forward? Wouldn’t the smart thing in Monza have been to tell Oscar to hold up and cover Lando then start building a gap? It does feel like Lando is on his own at times with McLaren.

I know it’s been a year, but Carlos was more of a teammate to Lando in Singapore, than Oscar was today.

you're so true about singapore. carlos did something that benefitted him and lando, oscar only did something that benefitted himself, it meant lando lost a place as well.

lando has been loyal to the team since they signed and supported him. he did work experience around the garage when he was eighteen, so he was ready to start the following year. he's had interest from other top teams, but has chosen to stay with mclaren. he's had talks with red bull and chosen to sign a mclaren contract the very next day.

six years he has been loyal to this team. he has never been out qualified by a teammate, even in his rookie season.

in 2019 he finished the championship 47 points behind his more experienced teammate.

in 2020 he closed that gap down to 8 points behind carlos, and helping to secure 3rd place in the championship.

in 2021 there was so much talk about daniel embarrassing lando out of the sport, he responded by beating his teammate who had been in the sport for 8 years longer.

in 2022 he increased that gap and outscored him by 85 points, which ultimately ended in daniel losing his seat.

in 2023 lando beat oscar by 108 points, which is crazier when you think about how many people were talking about how good oscar was in his rookie season.

lando has proved again and again how good he is, even when the machinery he's given isn't as good as he makes it look. the mclaren has only really been good since austria 2023, and since then lando has had 17 podiums, including 2 wins. before then he's had 6 podiums. he was the only driver not in the top three teams to get a podium in 2022.

there is a reason so many of the older/former drivers like lando so much. fernando, lewis, nico, jenson, have all spoken about how good lando is. all championship winning drivers, surely that counts for something.

when nico rosberg is telling zak brown they need to prioritise lando, surely something clicks there. when your driver is second place in the championship with their competitor not qualifying well, surely something clicks there. i'm all for drivers racing, but mclaren have a chance here. they may keep it up for next year, they may even keep it up when the regulations change. but why risk it, when they have a chance of a championship this year.

lando has stuck with mclaren through the bad years. joined with a team that had one of their worst years in 2018. he watched his teammate get a win in 2021, followed the team orders and stayed behind, then at the next race he got so close to his win, but mclaren let him make the decision about the tyres, which never should have been his decision. then in 2022 the car was awful, mclaren were no where near with the regulations, but he got a podium regardless. in 2023 the team got it right, but he still accepted that he wasn't going to get a win, max was too far ahead. now the team have two good drivers, a car that looks to be the fastest at most tracks, yet they still keep bottling wins, and still won't prioritise lando's championship.

oscar is doing much better this year, his race pace has improved a lot, but lando is faster. we all know how much faster he was at hungary, but he still listened to team orders, because he is a team player, and surely at some point he should be rewarded for that.

surely at some point his loyalty, and his skill should be seen and rewarded. he has been the top driver since 2021, it makes no sense that oscar keeps getting preferential treatment.

it kind of feels like gentle parenting. lando got a win, so oscar should get a win too. it's stupid.

anyway, sorry for rambling, i'm pissed off at the moment, and needed to do the research to prove how stupid mclaren are and how amazing lando is!!

⭐️ about Finders Keepers! I’d love to hear anything you have to share from behind the scenes! :D

"Send in a ⭐star⭐  to have the author select a section they’ve been dying to talk about!" Welp, I see a star there! Plus a request for behind-the-scenes info? Here I go!! Let's start with a fun bit of statistics: Finders Keepers was originally published April 13, 2022. Interestingly, between April 1, 2019 to April 12, 2022 (AKA the 3 years previous to release), it seems that 45 works were made/updated for the Rockman ZX fandom tag on AO3. Since then (for just over the three years after release), I searched and found about 76 works published/updated after FK's release date. It may be a coincidence, or just me not using AO3's search function properly, but it's also possible that Finders Keepers has been responsible for helping revive the MegaMan ZX fandom!!

The crazy part about this is that I almost didn't publish the fic. I'd originally intended to finish writing the thing first so that I could edit older chapters as ideas popped up, or as ideas in later chapters required foreshadowing in earlier chapters. (Nowadays if I miss an idea that I wish was in an earlier chapter, I will write a bonus ficlet for FKK.) But then @delightful-69 published these images as a response to, I believe? Discussion about the manga chapter released in March 21, 2020. (This was the reprint of the Megaman/Rockman ZXA manga, which featured a chapter with Model O Aile! I think that's when it released though I might be off on that number.) After seeing that, I felt it would be fine to publish the first chapter or two, just to show that I was feeling the hype too! ....And then things snowballed.

Wait. I've been publishing this thing for 3 years already? Yikes! Time sure flies!!

Now for actual behind-the-scenes info! I have actually written up to chapter 27. I'm currently working on 28, and suspect this fic will end somewhere in the 30's. Adding to that, I currently have 2 bonus chapters for FKK ready to go to! That's a buffer of 9 chapters! Now why do I have such a massive buffer? Well, to be brutally honest, sometimes I can't get myself to write for literal months. So it's nice to have some chapters ready for backup! If I write a chapter or two in a month, usually I will update every month. But if I don't write anything, I usually update every 2-3 months. On that note, you can expect the next FK chapter at the beginning of July!

Now for something I think is fun to talk about, but no one has actually noticed: Vent is 'racist' towards mavericks. This is an extremely understandable perspective mind you! Most civilians, and even a lot of non-civilians, view mavericks as little more than mindless monsters. You can see this most obviously in chapter 20, where Vent is thinking about Aile's father and goes, "It was just a maverick." It feels like no one really caught this!! It's sort of a reflection of one of my biggest gripes with the MegaMan series: The bosses are so cool design-wise, but they're never anything more than a roadblock to the player? Cool design, couple of lines, and that's it. The Pseudoroids, mutos reploids, etc, they never feel like they're treated like the characters they deserve to be, just a sideshow and challenge for the player. For anyone worried about this, don't you worry! Vent will get a tune-up. I just felt like this was a perspective that would and should be looked at when doing introspection on the character's motivations for Finders Keepers.

Growing Up after Growing Up

Ok so seeing as how we're all about finding meaning in the weird and niche

There was A Thing That Happened across three particular weird niches all around the same time and I just can't stop feeling like it's Important

Three titles that all hit in the same sort of mental, ideological breath, releasing in this chain from 2019-2021, just before writers' rooms had the chance to properly catch their breath and start talking about all the obvious Important Stuff that happened over those few years

Like the Culture of Indie Stuff (tm) was just opening its mouth to say something before 2020 punched it in the throat and redirected all the focus elsewhere

Because I can't stop seeing these three titles as like, one complete coherent sentence, one shared meaning and theme between all of them. You read the title of this post, you maybe see where I'm going with this (given the obvious assumption that you know each of the 3 and their associated contexts, which of course everyone does)

All 3 titles have this factor of being things that are getting old, that feel almost like they shouldn't be. The rogue and/or punk-ish standouts that thrived on their innate youthfulness relative to the world around them and then just kinda... kept going.

And the story their continuations tell is that experience. Like the stories are talking about themselves, almost, because it's what their audience and their creators had lived by then and needed to give a voice to.

An awful lot of people (can you guess I'm one of them?) were just hitting adolescence, just old enough to start looking in weird enough corners to find and get hooked by these stories. And now, those teens all grew up, and by 2019, I think all of us had collectively hit this thing, this feeling of "What now", "I'm an adult now, when does it all make sense", "Where was the growth arc? I thought we grew when we grew up"

"You get the sense you may have missed something."

And in one breath, these works speak to that. Speak about that. Speak for that. For some of us, maybe snap us awake that it's even happened, that it's still happening. That, even if a story ends, the story you're living won't, not that easily, hopefully not for a while. And if you're not ready, if you're not watching for it, feeling it, being there and present as it happens, it's going to seem like it comes out of nowhere.

You maybe (I maybe) got to feeling comfortable, like, the big conflicts of my life were finally ready to fade out behind me, it was time to let things stabilize, roll credits

And then you blink (I blink, the way I always do when I'm staring down something stressful and I need to tell myself it'll pass so I blink and then when I blink again a few days later it's over and done with, like it was all just the one blink, and I blink again and it's a month later, and I blink and my well-earned respite and also another year all passed and I can't help but feel like I missed them)

And people who you thought had it all in order, all squared away neat and tidy and stable, suddenly fell apart on you

And people who seemed like they'd never find their peace have suddenly found their way in life

And people you thought could never be anything but trouble show up with nothing but the kindest intentions in their heart

And by now, I mean, we're all here in a weird corner of the internet, it's 2025 now - at this point, Found Family is old news - but there's still something beautiful in seeing people take the jank-ass pieces of a life they made it to adulthood with and knowing they made it, they Found it after all

(fucking lmao I still love this (also I know the valentine-kiskes aren't technically strictly a 'Found' family due to all the weird genetic shenanigans linking them but the point stands that they chose each other, almost all of them met in weird and confrontational circumstances before they ever knew how much they could mean to each other and chose Family anyway))

And as painful as it is to acknowledge,

sometimes people lose their Family too. It hurts to see. It hurts to even acknowledge that it was possible, that bonds and love shared aren't always enough

Bonds can break, that's why it's so much more beautiful when you see them last - battles were fought and won to keep that.

I'm running out of ramble, but if even one of you maybe gets it, sees what I'm seeing here, it means everything. These stories that changed, that chose to be about Change, real change, the way that life actually changes, for better and for worse. Simultaneously motivating and cautionary but altogether reminding you to keep living, keep fighting, and just be there to see the beauty in all of it happening

WIP Wednesday - Landoscar Ageswap!AU edition.

Some of y'all might remember this idea I rambled about a couple of weeks ago and ever since then, I've been working on it! It's at around 15k words rn and I've only written out 1/4 of my draft so you better PRAY for me.

ANYWAYS there's a sneak peak under the cut. 🫶

some context might be needed, so:

it's set in an imaginary 2025 season with a made up calendar, grid + wdc fight. (obviously LOL)

oscar's 24 going on 25 and has been at mcl since 2020, lando's 20 going on 21 and in his rookie year.

nico rosberg is lando's manager. (listen, I had to.)

osc friend group = 2019 rookies (minus lando ofc) + logan

lands friend group = ollie + kimi (2025 rookies)

basically the thing that intrigued me so MUCH is the thought of having a rookie lando that's so enamored and obsessed with his cool older teammate BEGGING for some attention and awkward oscar who's used to playing second fiddle to daniel absolutely in TATTERS because why is his new cutie of a teammate trying to be besties?? aren't they here to race?? why is this puppy with the big eyes following him around PLEASE leave him alone.

and then they have like dramatic back-and-fourths for the majority of the season.

also I kind of ripped of the Alpine storyline for Lando but changed it to him being a former RB driver for the sake of drama.

It takes another fifteen minutes, but eventually Oscar emerges from his room, in a wine-red t-shirt and some dark shorts. That shouldn’t be considered a look in any shape or form, but Lando can appreciate the foundation the outfit is built upon. If you catch his drift. (It’s because he’s a racing driver, get it?) 

They head out together then, and Lando follows Oscar to the parking lot, where a chic and minimalistic black 720 S Spider is waiting for them, Lando’s salvia collecting in his mouth simply by looking at it. Yeah, maybe he’s a car guy, it’s literally his job. 

“What a beauty,” Lando marvels at the car, taking it in from all sides before getting ready to jump in. Oscar has stopped in front of the driver side door, holding out the ignition key. “You want to take the wheel?”

“Osc, I could never,” the younger chokes out, but the Australian simply tilts his head. “I’m not going to offer again, mate.” Fuck it, I’d be stupid not take the opportunity. Before the Oscar can regret his decision, Lando’s snatched up the key and is sliding into the driver’s seat.

Maybe it takes them another five minutes to start driving, Lando letting his hands run over the interior of the car, but Oscar keeps watching him with a neutral look, that makes Lando’s inside’s feel like he’s on fire, so he hopes he doesn’t hate him for it.

Another thirty minutes later and they reach the Piastri home, which should be called the Piastri Mansion, really. It’s almost as big as Lando’s own family home back in the UK and that’s been in his family’s possession for years, but this house is too modern for it to be some sort of family heirloom. Obviously, Lando knew that Oscar’s grown-up wealthy if his parents were able to send him across the world and support his racing career in Europe, but knowing and seeing are still two very different things, at the end of the day.

Nicole Piastri welcomes them at the door and the truly delusional part of Lando’s brain feels like he’s being brought home to his boyfriend’s family for the first time. Well, teammates aren’t that far removed from work-spouses, right? 

The older woman greets him with another tight hug, and Lando buries his head in her neck, clinging onto her tightly. In the next moment, there’s something trying to jump up his legs, a pair of fluffy middle-sized dogs trying to reach him, tongues out and tails waging. 

Oscars beside him immediately, “No, Rosie, Baz, back off!” He commands the dogs, which shouldn’t be this hot frankly, and the two stop, but continue to stand in front of Lando, big, dark eyes looking up at him. It’s too cute, really. So, he can’t do anything but sit down on his knees and open his arms wide for the dogs to jump into them, licking up on his face.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen them take so well to a stranger,” Nicole gasps, cheering a little for their interaction. Lando loses his balance and falls onto his back, Basil and Rosie following him and continuing to cuddle up to him. Yeah, he knows the government names of Oscar’s pets. He run an Oscar Fan account for two years, it’d be a bad look if he didn’t. 

“Well, you can’t say I didn’t try to save you,” Oscar sighs, a little disappointed maybe before continuing his walk into the house and into what Lando assumes the direction of the back porch. It sems like the two furballs are finally excited by the presence of one more of their owners, because they’re gone in a flash and following his teammate outside. Maybe they’re hoping for a round of fetch. 

Lando would play with them all day.

Oscar’s mum helps him up, still left lying on the hardwood floor beneath him. “You know you’re first teammate he’s agreed to bring around?” Lando’s sure his face resembles one of the fish he loathes so much. It’s not like he assumed that Daniel and Oscar used to be best friends, but now he feels weirdly honoured. But he’s also like fairly sure Oscar only did so because of his mother in the first place. 

The rest of the Piastri family is in the backyard, Oscar’s in a conversation with one of his younger sisters, Hattie, and there’s Nicole’s boyfriend on the barbecue. The dogs are chasing each other around the grass and the large swimming pool at the right side of the garden.

It’s only now that Lando notices how much he’s out of depth here, because it’s literally just Oscar’s family, including Mark Webber, here for the celebrations. Lando figured he’d be able to blend in with some of the friends or acquaintances of the family during the party, but now he’s realizing he’s part of an actual family barbecue. He feels honoured, but the anxiety’s also back.  

Nicole takes him by the shoulder, dragging him to the table and chairs where the Piastri children have settled down. “Come on, Lando, I’m sure you’re hungry and exhausted after that race,” which is of course the moment his stomach decides to make itself known, grumbling. Lando feel his cheeks heat up, which might become a permanent state at this point, “Yeah, I couldn’t keep anything down before the race, so I guess I need to make up for some lost calories,” he tries to go for a light-hearted joke.

Judging from the woman’s facial expression, he didn’t quite hit the mark with that one. “What?” Nicole looks at him horrified, “Don’t worry! This has been happening to me since I started in like the British F3, so I’m totally used to it by now,” he explains - which doesn’t help his case at all, sadly.

“You’ve just awoken the demon,” Mae tells him as he sits down across from her. 

Unfortunately for Lando the next person to join them at the table is Webber, who chooses the chair next to him. Maybe he should have declined the invitation after all.

Most of the dinner is more than an awkward affair to Lando, who can’t shake this stiffness from his limbs. He tries to his best to the enthusiastic about the food, and it’s great. He’s starved too, which should be the perfect combination but every time his gaze shifts to the left his heart starts to beat a little quicker.

When the sun starts to set Lando feels like the celebrations have reached a point for him to make a polite exit without offending anyone. Nicole is quick to offer their guest room to Lando, but he doesn’t think he could stand being around Oscar for any longer. Even if his heart breaks as he bids his goodbye to Baz and Rosie, who’d been his rock during dinner, brushing up against his legs and resting on his lap. 

Instead, Lando orders himself an Uber for the way back to the hotel and Oscar offers to wait with him in the front of the property. “Thanks again for the invite,” Lando breaks the awkward silence between them, when he can’t stand it any longer.

“No need to thank me, mate. I’m sorry I didn’t spend more time with you, I can’t imagine Mark to be an enthusiastic conversation partner, but I get so little time with my siblings, I’m sure you understand,” Oscar explains as he wraps his hand around Lando’s wrist. Besides, I’m sure you’ve noticed by now, I’m not your biggest fan, the sentence continues in Lando’s head.

“No, I think I do need to thank you. Could you give me your mum’s number? I want to properly thank her once more, I feel like if I hadn’t been around your family, it’d been a pretty sad ending to my first race. I’ve been missing my own like a limb today, honestly.” 

Oscar squeezes his wrist once more at the confession and promises to send Lando Nicole’s contact as soon as he’s back in the yard with his mobile. Then, Lando’s Uber drives around the corner. They bid each other goodbye, and then the Brit gets into the car. 

Making his way back to the Hilton, Lando’s still unsure how Oscar’s feeling about him.

Oscar Piastri: Lando, what is Oscar’s favourite pizza topping?  Lando Norris: Mate, you probably enjoy something disgusting like Tuna. Or no, Hawaii? Oscar Piastri: Actually, it’s pretty simple, I just like pepperoni. Lando Norris: I think we just found a food opinion we can agree on, Osc. Okay, uh, Oscuh, what Disney character is Lando most like? Oscar Piastri: Hm. That’s a tough one, you kind of remind me of Timon, from Lion King. Or I guess Lighting McQueen from CARS would be fitting, too. Lando Norris: Don’t tell Liam about that second one. If I’m Timon, does that mean you’re Pumba? Oscar Piastri: Sure, Lando. If you want to me to be. Okay, next one question, who is most likely to deal with a spider? Lando Norris: Oscuh, obviously.  Oscar Piastri: Obviously!? Lando Norris: Those Australian genes need to be good for something, mate! Reckon you’d protect me from the big, bad spiders.  Oscar Piastri: I think your screeching will be enough to hold them off, honestly.  Lando Norris: Oh, wow. Well, moving on, Oscuh, what would be Lando’s dream job, except for his current profession?  Oscar Piastri: Something that’s not even a job, probably. Like streamer, or maybe Instagram model.  Lando Norris: Oh, the influencers are going to come for you, mate. Besides, I already stream. Wait, did you know that? Oscar Piastri: [just smiles in reply.]

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN

Five years ago, on September 15, 2019, after about a six-week hiatus during the summer, I wrote a Facebook post that started:

“Many thanks to all of you who have reached out to see if I'm okay. I am, indeed (aside from having been on the losing end of an encounter with a yellow jacket this afternoon!). I've been moving, setting up house, and finishing the new book. Am back and ready to write, but now everything seems like such a dumpster fire it's very hard to know where to start. So how about a general overview of how things at the White House look to me, today....” 

I wrote a review of Trump’s apparent mental decline amidst his faltering presidency, stonewalling of investigations of potential criminal activity by him or his associates, stacking of the courts, and attempting to use the power of the government to help his 2020 reelection. 

Then I noted that the chair of the House Intelligence Committee, Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA), had written a letter to the acting director of national intelligence, Joseph Maguire, on Friday, September 13, telling Maguire he knew that a whistleblower had filed a complaint with the inspector general of the intelligence community, who had deemed the complaint “credible” and "urgent.” This meant that the complaint was supposed to be sent on to the House Intelligence Committee. But, rather than sending it to the House as the law required, Maguire had withheld it. Schiff’s letter told Maguire that he’d better hand it over. Schiff speculated that Maguire was covering up evidence of crimes by the president or his closest advisors.

And I added: “None of this would fly in America if the Senate, controlled by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, were not aiding and abetting him.”

“This is the story of a dictator on the rise,” I wrote, “taking control of formerly independent branches of government, and using the power of his office to amass power.”

Readers swamped me with questions. So I wrote another post answering them and trying to explain the news, which began breaking at a breathtaking pace. 

And so these Letters from an American were born.

In the five years since then, the details of the Ukraine scandal—the secret behind the whistleblower complaint in Schiff’s letter—revealed that then-president Trump was running his own private foreign policy to strong-arm Ukraine into helping his reelection campaign. That effort brought to light more of the story of Russian support for Trump’s 2016 campaign, which until Russia’s February 2022 invasion of Ukraine seemed to be in exchange for lifting sanctions the Obama administration imposed against Russia after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014. 

The February 2022 invasion brought renewed attention to the Mariupol Plan, confirmed by Trump’s 2016 campaign advisor Paul Manafort, that Russia expected a Trump administration to permit Russian president Vladimir Putin to take over eastern Ukraine. 

The Ukraine scandal of 2019 led to Trump’s first impeachment trial for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, then his acquittal on those charges and his subsequent purge of career government officials, whom he replaced with Trump loyalists. 

Then, on February 7, just two days after Senate Republicans acquitted him, Trump picked up the phone and called veteran journalist Bob Woodward to tell him there was a deadly new virus spreading around the world. It was airborne, he explained, and was five times “more deadly than even your strenuous flus.” “This is deadly stuff,” he said. He would not share that information with other Americans, though, continuing to play down the virus in hopes of protecting the economy.

More than a million of us did not live through the ensuing pandemic.

We have, though, lived through the attempts of the former president to rig the 2020 election, the determination of American voters to make their voices heard, the Black Lives Matter protests after the murder of George Floyd, the election of Democrat Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, and the subsequent refusal of Trump and his loyalists to accept Biden’s win. 

And we have lived through the unthinkable: an attack on the U.S. Capitol by a mob determined to overrule the results of an election and install their own candidate in the White House. For the first time in our history, the peaceful transfer of power was broken. Republican senators saved Trump again in his second impeachment trial, and rather than disappearing after the inauguration of President Biden, Trump doubled down on the Big Lie that he had been the true winner of the 2020 presidential election. 

We have seen the attempts of Biden and the Democratic-controlled Congress to move America past this dark moment by making coronavirus vaccines widely available and passing landmark legislation to rebuild the economy. The American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act spurred the economy to become the strongest in the world, proving that the tested policy of investing in ordinary Americans worked far better than post-1980 neoliberalism ever did. After Republicans took control of the House in 2023, we saw them paralyze Congress with infighting that led them, for the first time in history, to throw out their own speaker, Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). 

We have watched as the Supreme Court, stacked by Trump with religious extremists, has worked to undermine the proven system in place before 1981. It took away the doctrine that required courts to defer to government agencies’ reasonable regulations and opened the way for big business to challenge those regulations before right-wing judges. It ended affirmative action in colleges and universities, and it overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision recognizing the constitutional right to abortion. 

And then we watched the Supreme Court hand down the stunning decision of July 1, 2024, that overturned the fundamental principle of the United States of America that no one is above the law. In Donald J. Trump v. U.S., the Supreme Court ruled that a president could not be prosecuted for crimes committed as part of his official duties.

We saw the reactionary authoritarianism of the former president’s supporters grow stronger. In Republican-dominated states across the country, legislatures passed laws to suppress Democratic voting and to put the counting of votes into partisan hands. Trump solidified control over the Republican Party and tightened his ties to far-right authoritarians and white supremacists. Republicans nominated him to be their presidential candidate in 2024 to advance policies outlined in Project 2025 that would concentrate power in the president and impose religious nationalism on the country. Trump chose as his running mate religious extremist Ohio senator J.D. Vance, putting in line for the presidency a man whose entire career in elected office consisted of the eighteen months he had served in the Senate.

In that first letter five years ago, I wrote: “So what do those of us who love American democracy do? Make noise. Take up oxygen…. Defend what is great about this nation: its people, and their willingness to innovate, work, and protect each other. Making America great has never been about hatred or destruction or the aggregation of wealth at the very top; it has always been about building good lives for everyone on the principle of self-determination. While we have never been perfect, our democracy is a far better option than the autocratic oligarchy Trump is imposing on us.” 

And we have made noise, and we have taken up oxygen. All across the country, people have stepped up to defend our democracy from those who are open about their plans to destroy it and install a dictator. Democrats and Republicans as well as people previously unaligned, we have reiterated why democracy matters, and in this election where the issue is not policy differences but the very survival of our democracy, we are working to elect Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota governor Tim Walz.

If you are tired from the last five years, you have earned the right to be.

And yet, you are still here, reading. 

I write these letters because I love America. I am staunchly committed to the principle of human self-determination for people of all races, genders, abilities, and ethnicities, and I believe that American democracy could be the form of government that comes closest to bringing that principle to reality. And I know that achieving that equality depends on a government shaped by fact-based debate rather than by extremist ideology and false narratives. 

And so I write.

But I have come to understand that I am simply the translator for the sentiments shared by millions of people who are finding each other and giving voice to the principles of democracy. Your steadfast interest, curiosity, critical thinking, and especially your kindness—to me and to one another—illustrate that we have not only the power, but also the passion, to reinvent our nation.

aka my love story of six years with member of wallows, braeden lemasters.

late 2018—

by working at a record store, atira met kevin grimmett, who introduced her to his band, hunny. before long, she was also introduced to his extended circle of friends in another band — wallows.

the first time atira met braeden, cole preston, and dylan minnette was during the writing and production of wallows’ first album, nothing happens. from that point on, a genuine friendship blossomed between her and all of them.

atira was immediately drawn to braeden’s extroverted nature, and a small crush began to form. much to her disappointment, however, she eventually discovered he was in a long-term relationship with someone else.

2019—early 2020

working alongside braeden and being such close friends only made it harder for atira to suppress her feelings for him. her crush never truly faded. what puzzled her most was why braeden stayed in his relationship, even after his girlfriend had cheated on him. things between them were clearly unstable, yet he never walked away. despite her growing feelings, atira chose to keep them hidden, staying a loyal friend and constant support by his side. she hated seeing him be with someone else when she knew she could treat him better.

then came the inevitable.

atira always had her closest friends on speed dial — and one night, completely drunk and overwhelmed, she called braeden to come pick her up. during the quiet drive back to her place, with her guard lowered and inhibitions gone, she let it slip: she had feelings for him.

braeden didn’t know how to respond. he stayed silent, just kept driving.

atira wouldn’t even remember the confession the next day. but from that night on, something changed. braeden started to notice the way her eyes lingered on him a little too long when she thought he wasn’t looking.

not long after, his girlfriend cheated on him a second time. that betrayal finally sealed the end of their relationship.

late 2020—mid 2022

it finally felt like things were beginning to shift — for both of them.

braeden, now free from a relationship that had weighed him down, was in the slow process of healing. and through it all, he and atira had grown closer than ever. their friendship deepened with a new kind of ease — more laughs, longer conversations, and moments that lingered just a little too long.

braeden's songs carried a different tone — lighter, more hopeful. there was a brightness in his music that hadn’t been there in a while.

oddly enough, much of that inspiration traced back to atira. she had become a quiet but powerful muse, the spark behind lyrics he hadn’t known he needed to write.

but atira was ready to heal, too. ready to move on.

she couldn’t keep holding on to feelings that had nowhere to land — not when so much of it had been wrapped in uncertainty, in waiting. whether braeden was taken or not, she was tired of being stuck in the shadows of a maybe.

so when lee felix stumbled into her life, she let herself enjoy it. for the first time in a long time, she allowed herself to have fun, without overthinking where it might lead.

meanwhile, braeden had finally come to terms with the truth he’d been dodging for so long — he had feelings for atira. teal ones. ones that had quietly grown between shared melodies, stolen glances, and late-night talks.

but the moment he found out about her new fling, any hope he had unraveled.

now it was his turn to stay quiet. to bury what he felt. to watch from the sidelines as atira gave her heart — however casually — to someone else.

and it hurt in all the ways he never expected.

ironically enough, amid all the unspoken tension, braeden and atira found themselves collaborating on a song— missing out — for wallows’ second album.

line by line, they poured pieces of themselves into the lyrics, each believing they were masking their true emotions well enough.

neither of them realized they were writing about each other.

the song pulsed with longing, with words that hinted at timing missed and feelings unreturned. it was raw and honest in a way neither of them fully understood at the time.

they were still dancing around what they couldn't say out loud.

early 2023—early 2024

atira’s short fling with felix had been lighthearted — easy to walk away from when it ran its course. but her next relationship was a different story entirely.

she met johnnie guilbert at a party — charismatic, brooding, and different from anyone she’d been with before. what followed was a year-long relationship that was all for nothing.

and through it all, braeden stayed. hopelessly devoted in the way only someone truly in love could be.

he never moved on. on the surface, he was the same — the ever-supportive friend. but beneath it all, he was aching. platonic in the front, in love deep inside.

but maybe, just maybe, waiting wasn’t the worst thing he could have done.

because a year later, atira was single again.

and this time, braeden knew one thing with absolute certainty: he wasn’t going to lose her to timing, to silence, or to someone else. not again.

ISU released an article about Shoma

Two-time ISU World Champion and three-time Olympic medalist Shoma Uno of Japan has announced his retirement from competitive skating after a long and distinguished career and is ready to open a new chapter in his life.

“I have decided to retire from active competition,” Uno wrote on Instagram. “I am very grateful to have been able to continue skating for 21 years since I was 5 years old, and to have had a wonderful athletic life.”

The Japanese star will talk in more detail about his retirement and future plans in a press conference scheduled for May 14.

The 26-year-old looks back at a career with many highlights and also difficult times, but he always came back, proving his talent and showing resilience. When five-year-old Shoma went to the ice rink in his hometown of Nagoya with his father to have fun, he had no idea that he would become a World Champion, Olympic medalist and super star of the sport. He only knew that the enjoyed skating and kept coming back to the rink, taking lessons. He trained with Machiko Yamada, the coach of Japanese skating icon Midori Ito and also with Mihoko Higuchi for many years and worked his way up in the skating world.

Uno debuted in the ISU Junior Grand Prix in 2011 and was so tiny that he was unable to look over the boards. He won a few medals on the Junior circuit but his breakthrough came in what was his last Junior season in 2014/15 when he qualified for the first time for the ISU Junior Grand Prix Final where he claimed gold. Shoma went on to take the ISU World Junior title in 2015, in what was his fourth and final appearance at the event (climbing from 10th in 2012, 7th in 2013 and 5th in 2014).

Once at the senior level, Uno quickly became one of the top Skaters in the World. In his World debut in 2016 he placed 7th but then the next year won silver, his first of a total of four World medals. In his first Olympic Winter Games in 2018, Shoma skated off with the silver medal and returned on to the Olympic podium four years later, earning the bronze. In 2022 and 2023 Uno crowned himself ISU World Champion.

However, in between there was a time of struggle. In the 2019/20 season, for the first (and only) time in his career, Uno finished off the podium in the ISU Grand Prix Series. He had left his coaches since childhood and struggled with confidence.

“At first, to be honest, I was thinking about finishing my career,“ he said in an interview at Skate America 2021 about this time.

“I did not know how much longer I would keep going. But imaging the end (I thought) maybe I'll enjoy the rest of this career as an athlete.“

Uno started to work with two-time World Champion Stéphane Lambiel as his coach and choreographer in fall 2019 and soon came back strong. He grew as an athlete and a performer with beautiful programs that highlighted his versatility: “Turandot” (Free Skating 2017/18), “Great Spirit” (Short Program 2020/21), “Bolero” (Free Skating 2021/22) and “Spiegel im Spiegel” (Free Skating 2023/24) to name a few.

At the same time, the Japanese star always pushed the limits technically and made history by becoming the first Skater to perform a quadruple flip in competition in 2016.

“When I train and want to become better, it's not good for me to work on what I can already do. If I'm satisfied with just giving 80 per cent, I'm not good. The right training for me is to push my limits,” Uno said in an interview.

The Japanese Skater has an independent mind and a fun personality. He has a Youtube Channel where you can meet his three toy poodles Emma, Baron and Toro.

“When I am on the ice, I am totally focused on my sport, but when I'm off the ice, I am sure most people know I am just a lazy slacker, but I thought that would be a good way to show to the people how I am off the ice, but still this is Shoma Uno,” he explained.

When asked who inspires him the most, Shoma’s surprising answer was:

"Myself. Of course, I think I am inspired by many people and heard some good words from everyone, too, but in the end when you break it down, I do feel that it is myself that inspires me and sadly, I don't listen to anyone. Sometimes I listen, but mostly I go with my own mind,” he added.

For sure Uno will follow his own ideas in the years to come but you can certainly expect to see him gracing the ice in shows for a while.
