@oflove-andwar
When the Accords were first released for public consumption, Sue had been reluctant to sign onto the list. All her life, she had been using invisibility as a shield, though she knew that safety bubble quite literally popped the second she returned from that space mission and began fighting aliens on a regular basis. Since then, she had grown. She had realised that transparency was an important thing to ensure, so long as the person gave up their identity and secrets willingly understanding any potential consequences, and so she had no issue with Doom wishing to gain a list of individuals’ abilities.
Martial law, however, was another matter entirely. That was stifling free will, something that people relied on more than ever in times of crisis. “This is ridiculous,” Sue commented to the woman standing beside her as she looked out over the swelling crowd. Doom was getting one hell of an audience surrounding the Empire State, that was for damn sure. “I suppose there are only so many things a president can do in times like this that won’t piss people off, but martial law is a no-brainer when it comes to irritating … well, everyone.” It was at that point that Sue sighed and turned to the woman, abruptly realising that she was dressed quite differently than herself, and that there was a sword sheathed by her side.
Tumblr media
What was Sue’s life? Was it too much to ask for one normal day? “I’m guessing you aren’t particularly optimistic about the power of speech and thought today, huh?” Sue asked. “I have to say, I’m inclined to agree with you on that point.” There came a point where enough was enough, after all. “There’s always been something fishy about Doom anyway,” Sue admitted. “I knew him in college. He wore socks with sandals once, that was the surefire sign.”

For our eighth task, we decided to do something a little different and rather than meta, and do a paragraph mashup! All that we need members to do is like this post (or send us an ask if you have multiple characters/specific characters you want to involve) and we’ll make sure you get a pairing for a new thread! We thought this would be a great way to kick off the summer here at Rebuild and celebrate all our new members because we’re that excited. As always, this is completely optional!
The threads we’re going to leave up to everyone’s creative liberty, but when we post the pairings (which will most likely be groups of 2), we’ll be posting some prompts relevant to relationship development and main plot!
Once again, to participate, all you need to do is like this or send us an ask detailing which characters you’d like involved. (For example, I’d like to include Natasha and Reed! Thank you.) We’d like to reiterate that participation is not necessary, but we’d love to see people involved! We ask that everyone send in their characters by Monday, May 7, and we’ll announce pairings on Tuesday, May 8.
Please remember to tag your starters with ‘rebuildtask8′ to keep keep the general ‘rebuildtask’ tag open for admin use. We can’t wait to see the threads you all come up with!

Elektra really didn’t like being told what to do with her time. Unless, perhaps, someone was paying her. Which, unfortunately, President Doom was not. But with a name like that, he certainly sounded like the type of man who would seek out her services. It was needless that the one day she missed the last train home (such a thing should not even be a possibility in New York, and yet) she was not even on a job. There was no benefit to the risk. It may have helped that she was in her street clothes, though, should someone rush over to arrest her for the terrible crime of being outside past 11pm. If only they knew the full extent of her misdoings.
A figure appeared from around a corner, and it seemed she was not the only one out of luck. They continued forward, but in case they had other ideas, Elektra walked towards them herself so she could propose an alliance of sorts. It was unlikely the woman had skills like hers that could get them out of a bind, but being alone for hours without reading materials or music or any entertainment sounded dreadful. “Evening,” she greeted, offering what might be considered a friendly smile. “I see you’ve also made some poor time management choices tonight. If you wouldn’t be too opposed, mind assisting me in finding a place to stay for the night?” Quite abruptly, it sounded as if they were not alone, and Elektra quickly glanced around, her eyes settling on a rather expensive hotel sitting at the end of the street. “You might want to make that decision immediately.”

@bloody-good-occultist
Jean had never been one for sitting on her hands and letting everybody else tear into the problem that had presented itself. The current situation in New York, after all, was pretty close to her ballpark. She had been possessed by a cosmic entity of origins unknown, and now something or someone had lifted New York from earth and deposited it in the middle of the cosmos, far from any conceivable star system, and leaving everyone rather panicked about the whole event. If Jean could help out in any way using her experiences, she would, especially considering the fact she was desperately grasping for anything good in the whole Phoenix saga. Demons weren’t exactly her field of expertise, though, so when she went to venture outside the city boundaries, she had called up a man who advertised himself using some very colourful language.
She was confident that within seconds of meeting the man she could work out if he was just another con artist, or if he genuinely had insight into this area. They had agreed to meet at the city boundaries well before curfew - breaking one law would be more than enough for tonight, after all, though Jean doubted wandering off even counted as illegal - and Jean arrived early as always. She was surprised to find the man from the photograph there already, and a smile came over her face as she walked up, extending her hand for him to shake.

“It’s lovely to put a face to the name,” Jean said warmly. “Jean Grey, of the X-Men. We spoke on the phone. Thank you so much for agreeing to meet with me. I’m guessing you’re just as curious about what’s going on out there as everyone else, huh?”

@falseheroines
The city was in trouble. Maybe bigger trouble than they’d ever been in before, and honestly -- that was saying something. Steve had faced down transformed men and insidious organizations and actual, literal aliens (twice now), but he’d always done it for this country. For this city. For the streets he called home, even when he barely recognized them. He always had something to fight for, and a place to come back to -- though honestly, his track record for return trips wasn’t great. But now, he didn’t even have that. They weren’t in the United States, they weren’t even on Earth.
The question was, where exactly were they? The President didn’t seem to have an answer for that, though he had plenty of policies to try and keep the city safe while someone figured it out. Steve still wasn’t sure how much they could trust him -- his recent experiences with authority didn’t exactly inspire confidence. He tended to trust his own instincts now, put his faith in individuals rather than organizations. But he couldn’t rely solely on instincts. He needed information.
To that end, he snuck out one night. Far past curfew, and his goal was to get far past the city limits. The people had clustered together a bit after the Skrull war, moving towards the center. He wondered now if that was instinctual, if even before Strange’s announcement, they somehow knew. There weren’t many people out this far anymore, especially once he left the skyscrapers and pavement behind him. It was dark as far as he could see, though he saw what he thought might be sparks of flame far off in the distance. More demons flying high up in the sky.
And there -- just out of the corner of his eye, he saw something else. A shadow of a figure. He furrowed his brow, tightened his grip on his shield. “I won’t hurt you,” he called out cautiously. “Are you all right?”

All right, so this pocket-dimension futz? It needed to be solved. Kate hadn’t escaped from aliens just to be stuck on some other planet! (Some other dimension, god this was weird.) She needed info, but with the curfew in place, she wouldn’t risk a full recon with the team. This would be a totally solo act, but that was fine! She was Kate Fuzting Bishop, Hawkeye extraordinaire, she had this in the bag!
Ducking and dodging around Doom’s police squad was easy enough. They weren’t nearly as ruthless as the Strike Force, and in a way, really seemed to be there just to keep the peace. Unfortunately, Kate didn’t have time for peace tonight. She made her way to the edge of the city, just to get a glimpse at what lay beyond.
As soon as she crossed the border, she felt it. The warm, summer-y air that had drifted through the city streets was gone. It was cold, the wind howling, the landscape littered with jagged rocks and smoke. In the distance, she thought she saw fire, explosions, and she definitely heard more demons screaming to the sky.
Tumblr media
“Futz,” she breathed, taking it all in. It was a lot, a part of her hadn’t really believed where they were until she saw it herself. Maybe that’s why she was really here. It was overwhelming, but Kate had dealt with overwhelming before -- that’s why, when she heard the crunch of a footstep behind her, she didn’t let it take her by surprise. Whipping around, drawing an arrow and notching it in one fluid motion, she turned to face the intruder. “Who the futz are you?” she snapped, aiming right between his eyes, though she didn’t let loose just yet.

Here are our pairings for our eighth task, the paragraph mashup. We’re really excited to see all of these characters interacting and to see more relationship development between characters! We’ve also included prompts for everyone’s connivence and we’d be ecstatic to see those ideas come to life as well!
Thanks everyone for participating! Feel free to plot and get starters up whenever you’re ready.
PAIRINGS:
Anya Corazon & Riri Williams
Barbara Gordon & Emma Frost
Bruce Banner & T’Challa Udaku
Clark Kent & Warren Worthington
Crystalia Amaquelin & Eddie Bloomberg
Diana Prince & Susan Storm
Dick Grayson & Remy LeBeau
Elektra Natchios & Felicia Hardy
Harley Quinn & Xavin
Jason Todd & Loki Laufeyson
Jean Grey & John Constantine
Jessica Jones & Kate Spencer
Kitty Pryde & Zinda Blake
Lobo & Medusa Amaquelin
Nebula & Selina Kyle
Ororo Munroe & Stephen Strange
Raven Darkholme & Steve Rogers
PROMPTS:
Unwilling to take anyone’s word on it, characters A and B go beyond New York City’s borders together, intent on seeing for themselves if the area is truly as desolate and dangerous as the news stations claim. While out there, they find themselves overrun by demons. Realizing they’ll never make it back to the city alive on their own, they team up with one another in the interest of escaping. Their alliance may be temporary or lead to something a little more permanent when they make it back to the city!
Character A is out passed curfew, patrolling the city. When character B stumbles upon them, they have no way of knowing what side they’re on. Panicked and already on edge thanks to the invisible threat of the demons, character B lashes out and a fight ensues.
Intent on getting to the bottom of New York’s latest situation, character A does some investigating of their own. Somehow (maybe by freak accident, maybe through attempting to follow a demon, maybe something else), their ‘evidence’ leads them to character B’s doorstep. They might think character B is somehow involved in the chaos plaguing the city, or they may believe character B holds the secret to fixing it.
Character A has a public identity, and is well known to the world at large. When character B is attacked by demons in their home and decides they need help fighting back, they seek out character A for assistance. Depending on their personality, character A may need some convincing!
After Doom’s proclamation of martial law, protests naturally arose. Character A is at one such protest. Character B either disagrees with the protest or does something to make character A wrongly assume that they disagree, and an argument ensues. When demons interrupt, the two characters have to put aside their differences and fend the threat off together.
Characters A and B know each other in passing, but not very well. When they’re out after curfew and hear Doom’s police nearby, they’re forced to take shelter in the same warehouse until morning, prompting them to get to know one another a little better through a night of conversation.
