Yeah, I’m one of them! I reread your Bulleyes chapter sometimes I actually commented on it before you disable comments. It’s one of my favorite chapters plus the Saejun chapter from SIH among others you wrote… though all of them are good, I just have a biase in how ya wrote Bulleyes was all. Along with your interpretation of the skeletons that I enjoyed reading at the time. (I do inserts though Ik it’s not everybody forte and Frisk is a insert as I know Toby intended them to be a blank state for players I believe if memory serves me right. So I can see why people use Frisk instead of themselves.) <3
Yeah, I may not look into it since I already have to deal with the current well state of the pro/anti drama and don’t want to go down that rabbit hole which I have gone down far too many rabbit holes lol. Not surprised it dissolved into more of that drama, these type of stuff tend to dissolve into that drama overtime.
<3
I'm really happy to hear you liked my version of Killer for kinktober! :D I had a lot of fun writing him, though I admit younger me went a bit soft at the end of it and if I redid it I'd make it heartbreaking lol But so long as it's still enjoyable that's all I care about ^^ Saejun still over here collecting hearts omg lol It's okay, he has mind in his desk drawer too jkjk You do inserts? Does that mean you're a writer? 👀 If so you're totally gonna have to DM me in some way so I can check your stuff out lol
And yeah sorry I turned off comments but it's because I actually got motivated to work on UT stuff only for a jerk - and after giving me several nice comments on my insert stuff, went and insulted me once they realized I liked frans. Just didn't want to deal with it anymore. They could've simply gone back and deleted what they left, that last one was entirely unnecessary.
I actually see Frisk as their own person with their own personality. I mentioned why in my post I made on why I love the ship so much (linked in my pinned post), with evidence posts made by an old tumblr blog on here. While I see your view as valid it does sorta conflict with mine lol But I still encourage it, as it gives you a love for 'Frisk'. Go ham with those interpretations XD

This was me- 🥺
Thank youuu so much for some help.
Follow up question how do you get mutual maybe I’m just a little nervous to start talking to people. I have a couple of follows from some of my favorite writers but there’s no ‘friendship’ or anything.
Also about posting times how do I check analytics and how do I figure the best time post?
I love the aesthetic of yours and I of course am not gonna copy the gradient of your text but mine is all blue to match my blog theme maybe one day when I can sit I can redesign some of my initial posts and continue that with future.
Idk I tend to overthink and I am more of a quiet person who makes it hard in themselves to talk to people. I do over think numbers too. Maybe it’s because I started with a couple of blurbs and went straight into a series. I also compare myself to others work now. I don’t feel like mine is good enough. Even smut which can be so fun. I look at bigger blogs and how they write and it’s just so much better. I’ve been trying to come up with original creative ideas but idk right now. I’m waiting for a burst of creativity. And I see how much love others posts get too and all the asks that are responded to.
I’m not looking to be ‘tumblr famous’ I just want to contribute to an already amazing community with amazing work and I feel like I’m not there yet. Too hard on myself. But I wanna be like all the cool girls (including you!) who builds her own little community.
Also don’t worry about rambling bc look at what a mess I am. 🥲 and if that’s a photo of you on your pinned post you are soooo beautiful and if it’s not I bet you still are anyways. 💞
omg i was trying so hard to answer this ask but i couldn't some reason on my phone?? i'm back now tho, the laptop helps!
firstly, of course, i'm more than happy to help with any questions you—or any new writers—may have! for the follow-up question, typically, how i interact with other writers is i start by interacting with their works. tell them how much i enjoy their fics, drop an ask in their inbox, or sometimes DM them personally to talk to them. most of them are genuinely friendly! and i'm sure they more than love to talk about their fics or to hear from people who enjoy their fics!!
for the analytics, you usually have one when you click on your "activity" in your blog, and it takes you to this graph thing where it tells you about the interactions you get from your notes. if you hover your cursor over the graph, you'll see what notes you get at a certain time/day!
and don't think too much about the aesthetic, when i tell u, when i first started, my aesthetic was ugly, literally i went back and redid them, but if you go to old old reblogs, you'll see that it was very bare minimum. just have focus on your blog and fics rn and the aesthetic will def come slowly but surely!
and i completely understand. i'm actually a relatively quiet person on the internet because i hate bothering people. and i understand so deeply about comparing myself to other people's works because i absolutely look up/adore certain writers and i feel like i can never write such imaginative words compared to them. however, at the end of the day, it truly is just giving myself grace, allowing myself that space to dwell on my thoughts but not consume me, yk? also, sometimes creativity doesn't just outright find you, you have to seek it out! same with inspiration. for me, i can absolutely see a work for what it's worth based on the passion alone.
baby, don't be too hard on yourself. any work by writer is a contribution enough, because it means something to have someone so passionate, you go in your freetime to write about these characters. just have fun, at the end of the day, don't starve yourself for it, yk?
and omg no, i wish! that girl is not me! she's this viet ig influencer i follow because she just has such a unique vibe and i love it. thank you though!!

April 16 2024
Meow meow, greetings my followers and friends to yet another blog entry. This time I am coming to you from the living room. Today is dance class day which is later on today. I have been doing alright so far today. I am relearning Japanese. I thought I would listen to my old Japanese learning CDs to study Japanese. Lately I have been getting games from the internet. I also have been playing other games besides just Animal Crossing on my Nintendo Switch. Recently I have been getting into the game called My Time In Portia which is on my Switch. Meow this neko boy has been continuing writing my new novel. Between the time that I changed SSD's in this laptop that I typing this entry on my saved file for my new novel didn't get updated so that meant I had to write some of it again. Nya this neko boy took Kylie our dog outside twice. I took her once in the morning before doing the dishes and in the afternoon. It looks like it'll rain tomorrow which means that today has been not raining heh. Everything has been good going on lately. Nothing really new is going on lately. Well I guess that's pretty much it. I am just doing this entry to fill in some time before I move on to another thing on my schedule. Speaking of schedules I redid mine today. Schedules is how I function being Autistic. Anyway I guess that's pretty much it for now. I might post some pictures or I might not. Until then later.

Him
Ahhhh, my first post. I mainly want this to be a parenting type blog. Maybe I will post some random things at times but for this first post, I just wanted it to be about him. Him, the one great love of my life, the one I have no more.
When I think about him I still, after all these years, remember nothing but love. He was a few years younger than me, we dated when I was in my mid 20′s and he his early 20′s. I remember the newness, the excitement, the adventures we went on, I was his first taste of love literally in both senses. What I remember most of all was the genuine love we had for each other, even though we were both so young, we genuinely loved each other. He was the one, every ounce of me could just feel it. He would put on music and we would kiss the night away, cuddling each other on the couch, watching the morning news then going to bed. Hours upon hours we would just bask in the wonders of this new found love. I remember going on a road trip with him to his hometown and visiting his family, the entire way up he told me he just has to hold my hand or have his arm around me the entire time, and he did. I won’t speak of what went wrong, it was my fault. There was no cheating, it was just my self doubt and insecurities that eventually pushed this gem out of my life.
I never forgot him though and over the years I would try to look him up but never found much. Then one day I put an ad online getting rid of a free air conditioner and you will never guess who responded to the ad?! It was him, I was certain that was his phone number but I didn’t say anything at first and just told “this guy” he can pick the free air conditioner on the porch. He picked it up and I did NOT go out the meet him, I just couldn’t. Well after he got it I text him back and said is this you? He responded back and said yes? I then told him who I was and he was shocked and so happy to chat with me. He asked to meet up for coffee and I was beyond excited. We talked about every and anything. Fast forward and we have met up several times from coffee to going out to dinner, going over his house and him cooking me dinner, him coming to mine, he even redid an old desk and dresser I had for me. He got me a little gift and it really seemed like we were on track to start something again. But he never asked and now here I am still thinking of him everyday. I wish he would just text me and tell me something but it’s come down to us randomly texting here and there. We always seem to be connected though. After months of not chatting, I took my kids to a local park him and I visited together years ago, and I just texted him the name of something we both remembered from graffiti on a bridge. He messaged right back and asked if I was there and I said yes. He then sent me a picture of him next to this memory and I went on the bridge to look for it, out of all the hundreds of things, I found it and I sent him the same picture of me, right there in the same spot, where he just was.

At Work With Daily Disco in St. Louis, Missouri
Hi, friends! It’s been a while since we’ve shared a workspace on the blog. Today, we’re excited to give you a tour of the Daily Disco studio. If you aren’t familiar with Abbey’s work, she’s an embroidery queen who makes custom jean jackets and art prints, and more. Keely and I bought this custom jean jacket for Elsie’s baby shower gift and we’ve been obsessed ever since.
Her studio doubles as a workspace and living area. The colors are so bright and happy!
“When hunting for a studio space to give my company Daily Disco room to grow, I stumbled across the second floor of an old school bakery in St. Louis. It was much larger than what I was needing as a studio, but the space, neighborhood, and smell of fresh baked cookies 24/7 sold me. I worked it out with the bakery to fix up the second half as my home! The living space and studio are connected by the kitchen, which helps them feel like two distinct spaces. Before the bakery opened in the 1970s, the building was a dance hall, which makes it the perfect spot for Daily Disco!
“The bright studio gets the best natural light, and the rainbow of threads is my favorite part of the decor! It is probably my favorite room, especially when the team is here and the room is filled with music, talking, and the buzz of a chainstitch machine!
“The chainstitch machines are all from the 1930s or older. This machine was a gift to me from an 83-year-old couple who saw a news segment I was featured in. The machine was his father’s and they wanted to give it to me so that it could have a new life. I use it everyday, and will never forget the kindness of those strangers.
“This lip wall is the first thing you see when you come in, and we painted it as a team! We used this tutorial Laura did on ABM, and did lips instead of eyes.
“When I moved in, the space was painted orange and black. I painted all the walls a color called Pink Marage, which brightened up the space. It goes back and forth between pink and white depending on the light. The space that needed the most attention was the kitchen. Since it was an office kitchen, it only had a few cabinets and black laminate counters. I painted the cabinets, redid the countertops, and hardware (all for under $200). I did a huge blog post with all of the details here. My kitchen splurge was a vintage Turkish rug I got from Aladdin Rugs.
“My bedroom has a lot of pieces that I’ve brought back from Sayulita in Mexico. I love the color and texture in Mexican culture and it makes me so happy to wake up in it!
“This room is my happy place. My great-grandpa built that coffee table in the ’50s and I feel so lucky that it’s mine! The pink couch makes the perfect spot for unwinding after a busy day.”
Such a fun, cozy space! Check out Daily Disco’s embroidery and more at daily_disco on Instagram. 🌈

My Disney Ride-or-Die Rides
I love Disney. Have I mentioned that I love Disney? Because I absolutely love Disney with all of my heart and soul and body.
Part of that love is based on the movies. I grew up watching them and I still watch them more often than I’d care to admit. But a bigger part of my love for Disney is a tradition my family has held since I was 9 months old: visiting either Disneyland or Walt Disney World once every year.
I would like to clarify that Disney didn’t used to be as expensive as it is now, and that as we’ve gotten older my siblings as I have begun chipping in (if not entirely paying for ourselves) when it comes to our yearly family trips. But as the price to visit goes up, my family continues to be savvy with our spending and trying to get the most bang for our buck.
Part of that “bang-for-your-buck”-ness involves getting the most out of our time in the parks. That brings me to today’s blog post.
Not 20 minutes ago, my dad was sitting on Connor’s bed in his room calling out items from a list he found on the internet. Basically, someone decided what the 10 least-worth-it rides were at Walt Disney World, and at least half of them are near and dear to my heart.
After cursing the person who wrote the original list under my breath, I snagged my laptop and decided to come up with my own lists of 5 rides at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World that are overhyped, and 5 rides each that aren’t hyped up enough.
WDW Overhyped:
1. Tomorrowland Speedway
Maybe I’ve just had too many bad experiences on this ride. There have been too many times where the car just…stopped on the track for no apparent reason. Or the steering was broken and sent me (and Connor) klunking back and forth against the track’s metal guide, unable to control where we were going until we finally reached the queasy, miserable end of the “ride.” But waiting an hour or more to be sorely disappointed every time? Not worth it.
2. The Magic Carpets of Aladdin/Dumbo the Flying Elephant/Astro Orbiter
Look, I get it. It’s fun for little kids. Heck, when I was a youngin’ I loved the Dumbo ride in particular. But I’ve seen adults with no kids wait in line for way longer than is worth it, only to sit there unamused for a minute and a half before the hydraulics bring them gently back to the ground. Just…don’t do it. Please.
3. Toy Story Midway Mania!
Alright. I know there are a lot of people (even within my own family) who disagree with me on this one. This ride is extremely whippy and makes me nauseous, which isn’t an easy feat. Maybe it’s just my competitive side, but I always end up with a sore wrist and fingers from tugging the dang string so quickly and vigorously. If you want a better ride like this, the Buzz Lightyear ride at Magic Kingdom is a better way to go, and the line is always shorter. Please, save your neck the agony.
4. Soarin’
I’ll admit, this is a ride worth riding once, maybe twice if you’re really into it. I happily rode it again after they redid the video for it, and it was pretty damn cool if I say so myself. But I won’t ride it again for another couple of years probably unless I’m forced into it. It’s like going to watch an Omnimax movie over and over again; it’s a lot shorter, true, but it’s just as nauseating. On the plus side, it smells amazing!
5. Peter Pan’s Flight
I feel bad for putting this down. This ride is a family tradition dating back to my Grandpa White, who my siblings and I never got to meet; it was his favorite ride, and his love for it is somewhat ingrained in everyone in my family. But… The shortest the line usually is? Approximately 45 minutes to an hour. Most of the time it’s 90 minutes or more. While it’s a very unique ride that’s certainly a staple at the park, it’s best to just wait for a firework show to start before going.
WDW Under-appreciated:
1. Journey Into Imagination With Figment
This was on the person’s original list of “rides that aren’t worth the wait,” and I exclaimed, “No!” when I heard it. This has been one of my favorite rides since I was a child, and to me it embodies everything that the front half of Epcot is about. Science and creativity, balancing curiosity with logic, and allowing your imagination to flow and carry you towards new discovery! Plus, the music is catchy and the line is never too long. What’s not to love?
2. Dinosaur
I don’t care if Disney gets rid of the rest of the Dino-Land park in Animal Kingdom. But so help me GOD, if they get rid of the Dinosaur ride, I will RIOT! In the perfect balance of science, adventure, and amazing air conditioning, this ride is always my go-to ride at Animal Kingdom. Oh, did I mention that Bill Nye the Science Guy narrates the theory of evolution when you’re in line? Even middle school-Kylie geeked out about that!
3. The Carousel of Progress
I will never understand how people don’t flock to this ride. It’s heavily air-conditioned. You get to sit and relax your feet. You’re learning technological advancements over the last 100 years in smaller decade-based increments based on the lives of an adorable family. And again, Disney’s coming in clutch with another catchy song! “There’s a great big beautiful tomorrow, just a dream away…”
4. The People Mover
A mixture between air-conditioned and just cool, windy, and shady, the People Mover has a relatively short line and moves forward very consistently. It’s perfect when you just need a break from the pandemonium that is Magic Kingdom, or when your little ones need to rest, or even if you just want to take a peek at some of your favorite rides (i.e. Space Mountain) from an outside perspective.
5. Living With the Land
This is…not exactly a ride most people flock to. They’d rather ride the Frozen ride, or Test Track, or something a little more exciting and “razzle-y dazzle-y.” But let me tell you, Living With the Land is freaking cool. When’s the last time you saw a pumpkin in the plastic mold growing into the shape of a Mickey head?
DL Overhyped:
1. Matterhorn Bobsleds
Aside from the fact that I once almost dropped (and lost) my phone on this ride, it’s just very jerky. If someone hasn’t thrown out their back on this ride yet, I’d be surprised. A tip from a professional, though: the left side is smoother and faster!
2. Dumbo the Flying Elephant (and the like)
3. Toy Story Midway Mania!
4. Autopia
Pretty much the same as the Tomorrowland Speedway above, but…even older. Imagine that.
5. Peter Pan’s Flight
DL Under-appreciated:
1. Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride
Is this ride still around? I feel like I remember someone saying it closed. Regardless, this has always been one of my favorites at Disneyland. Pop your kiddo behind the wheel of the car and let ‘em spin it away! Just…maybe cover their eyes at the end when it’s insinuated that Mr. Toad died and went to hell. It can be…traumatic.
2. Alice in Wonderland
This ride is just…so old-school Disney and awesome. It’s got some of the best aspects of the original Disney rides, like the more traditional-style animatronics and the pull-down lapbars in a peculiar-looking vehicle. You traverse upwards through Wonderland before the doors open up to some higher-up leaves that your caterpillar-mobile traverses before bringing you back to the start of the ride. It’s short, sweet, and perfect if you can catch the line at the right time!
3. Snow White’s Scary Adventure
This is another one that may not be there anymore? I can never remember! But after they took the Snow White ride out at Walt Disney World (later adding the Seven Dwarves’ Mine Train ride to somewhat replace it), this was the only ride dedicated to Snow White left. It’s cute, well-done, and a little spooky in just the right places. But everything ends with sunshine and rainbows as the ride dumps you back into the heat from its air-conditioned bowels.
4. Monster’s Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!
While WDW has the Laugh Floor, nothing quite compares to an actual ride tailored to one of the best classic Pixar movies. Honestly, it’s just like watching the film being fast-forwarded through the less-plot-heavy parts. It’s just…adorable. And worth so, so worth it. Especially for Roz’s comments at the end!
5. Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin
While it’s nice to have the context of the backstory, it’s not necessary to have seen, “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” to love and appreciate this ride. Balanced between goofy and a little spooky, even the line as you wait to ride is extremely well done!
Any Disney park is an interesting balance of entertainment, education, magic, and more. It’s important, I think, to work on finding that balance in order to make the most of your trip. If you push too hard, you’ll burn out. If you don’t push hard enough, you’ll miss out. If you follow my advice, you’ll find out that maybe there’s more to visiting Disney than spending an inordinate amount of time standing around and waiting for a ride that may not be worth it.
If you’re interested in hearing more tips and trick for your travels to Disney, you can watch my video about it here!

Beautiful Homes of Instagram z Thanks to you, my loyal readers, Home Bunch has being inspiring and growing for almost a decade. My passion for interior design wouldn’t be enough to work on it for all of this time if I didn’t have the kind of support I get from each and every one of you. You show your support for coming here, following me on social media and with your comments and emails. Although I love sharing the magazine-ready homes designed by the various interior designers, builders and architects I feature, I must say that nothing inspires me more than real homeowners. Yes, people like yourself, people that work hard to make the best they can with the place they call “home”. This series, “Beautiful Homes of Instagram”, started with the goal of letting others know about these real homeowners, so you could have the chance to meet some people you haven’t yet. This series is to showcase these talented people and it’s for us to learn about their experience and story. Leslie from @my100yearoldhome is a person you can immediately identify yourself with. She is kind, funny and down to earth. Do you know those people you meet and instantly feel you’ve known them for many years? That’s Leslie! Trust me, you will learn a lot with her and you’ll love to see every single picture she is sharing with us. Thank you for this spectacular tour, Leslie. Hi everyone! My name is Leslie of @my100yearoldhome and I am so excited to share our home with you. I still cannot believe Luciane invited me to be a part of “Beautiful Homes of Instagram”. When she first reached out to me, my first thought was, “But our home isn’t beautiful. It’s just a home with of a bunch of my flea market finds!” Our home is actually 102 years old and only two families have owned it since it was built in 1915. It was originally built as a wedding gift and then passed down within the family for two generations. My in-laws bought the home in 1969. In 1998 we bought their home … and they bought ours! We were looking to upsize and they were looking to downsize. You can only imagine what our moving day was like!My husband Dave and I have been married for thirty-one years and we have three grown boys who are ages 26, 24 and 23. My husband and three sons all played sports in college so our home has had plenty of wear and tear, such as baseballs flying through an antique glass windows and soccer cleat marks on our family room coffee table. But these memories are what make our house a home and they will be with us forever (including the table!). When we bought the home we knew we wanted to remodel it to fit our growing boys (did I mention they are 6’7”, 6’6” and 6’5” tall?). So in 2000 we remodeled the downstairs by opening up and expanding the maid’s room into a family room, expanding the kitchen, remodeling two bathrooms and adding a back porch. In 2008 we remodeled our master bedroom by adding a walk-in closet and new bath. We used the same architect for both remodels, who specialized in historic renovations. We used the original house plans as a guide to match everything, including the moldings, windows, and French doors. We live in the Pasadena area in Southern California and since our home looks like it could be located on the east coast we have been fortunate to host a lot of film companies. Our home has been in ten movies (including Raising Helen, Fired Up and A Mighty Wind), about twenty TV shows (such as Mad Men, Criminal Minds and CSI Cyber) and nearly 50 commercials. This year, during the Super Bowl, a Skittles commercial aired, that was filmed in our master bedroom. The most popular room in our home for filming is our kitchen, by far. We have even had fake snow on our home numerous times! I am a full-time artist and have been painting professionally for interior designers for years. Home design has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I am always watching HGTV (my husband calls it the “talking lamp” as it’s the first thing that is turned on when I enter a room) and I quickly fell in love with Fixer Upper and what I call “farmhouse style”. I started an instagram account and blog this spring and never expected how much fun I would have sharing our one hundred year old home. My blog serves as an inspiration for me and it’s a fun place to share how I have redecorated our home and simplified the design and color palette. I recently redid our family room, living room and master bedroom in a very neutral palette. My decorating style is “flea market comfortable”. I love visiting our local flea markets looking for great finds for our home. I tend to style our home in everything white and chippy, and I love using an item for a purpose it was not originally intended. I collect a lot of things such as vintage china, old quilts, silver pitchers, Rae Dunn pottery and cranberry glass. But my favorite passion is entertaining. I love to cook and set a creative table, so we host dinner parties for friends all year round. Beautiful Homes of Instagram Our home technically has four stories. I love our California basement (which just means it’s really small) and fifteen years ago we put in a wine cellar. The basement is the perfect place to keep wine cool. The only addition to the original footprint of our home is the family room and back porch that we added in 2000. Exterior Paint Color Exterior Paint is Dunn Edwards Swiss Coffee and the black shutters and door is Dunn Edwards Black. Living Room When we moved in to the home in 1998, the only thing we did was paint and changed the light fixtures. Unfortunately none of the original fixtures remained in the house so I shopped the flea markets for fixtures that were the style of when the home was built. Our floor plan is very traditional. When you enter the home the living room is on the left and the dining room is on the right. Earlier this year I remodeled the living room and had slipcovers made for the couches. Rug: Rose Bowl flea market Art & Furniture Painting by Ray Turner. Couches: No longer available. Coffee table: Pottery Barn, no longer available. Loved & Tresured I recently found this incredible general store counter and I do think it is my favorite piece of all of the items in our home! Blog post about how I found my favorite vintage general store counter. Drapes Drapes: Restoration Hardware Silk Taffeta Pavilion Stripe. Dining Room I love to entertain so we are one of those rare families that use our dining room all of the time. Paint color is Behr Espresso Martini. Dining Room Furniture Earlier this year we purchased new furniture for our dining room. I love the lighter wood and more casual style! Dining Table: Pottery Barn Toscana Extended Dining Table Seadrift. Dining Chairs: Pottery Barn Aaron Side Chair Seadrift. Tiered Tray: Creative Co-Op Wood Two-Tier Tray with Metal Handle. Sideboard: Hayneedle Four Hands Irish Coast Sideboard. Mirror: Pier 1 Whitewashed Window Mirror. Ready for Guests Our dining table is set year round, even when we have nothing planned. I guess you could say I like being ready to entertain! Thanksgiving Table Setting Ideas Thanksgiving China: Spode Celebration and Spode Festival. Placemat: Pier 1 Burlap Ruffle Placemat. Metal Vases Metal Vases: Vintage find from @thewarpedtable Drapes Drapes: Restoration Hardware Silk Taffeta Pavilion Stripe. White Wood Chargers: Pier 1. Rug & Chandelier Rug: Long Beach Antique Flea Market Chandelier: Rose Bow Flea Market Butler’s Pantry One of the things I love most about our home are the ten foot ceilings and the fact we have a butler’s pantry. I have told my husband many times that a butler’s pantry should always include a butler. But so far, no luck. Faucet: Rohl’s Country Kitchen deck mount. Paint Color Paint: Farrow and Ball Cooking Apple Green no.32. Sink & Countertop Cabinets, wood countertops and copper sink are original to the house from 1915. Flower Market and “I Must have Flowers” sign – Magnolia Flowerland In my years of flea market shopping I have acquired a lot of sets of vintage china so the pantry is perfectly suited for my many collections. Recently, I converted one end of the butler’s panty into a flower arranging station. It’s the perfect location to arrange flowers for our home as I love to visit our local flower mart on weekends! Zinc Flower Pots Vintage flower pots: @throughtheporthole and @vintagekunktionla Kitchen We remodeled our kitchen in 2000. Our kitchen is the nucleus of our home and it’s the place where we always gather. I love to cook and entertain and our kitchen is perfect for both. Every December we host our annual Christmas party and I still cook all of the food, even though the guest list is over to 250 people. It takes an incredible amount of work but I use a color-coded spreadsheet that keeps me on track. It’s really true! There use to be a laundry room in the back of the kitchen but we removed it to open up the kitchen view to the back yard. I designed the kitchen with our architect and chose to make our cabinets 2” taller than the standard height as we are all a very tall family. We lived in the house for almost three years with no dishwasher (and three young boys) so I ended up adding two dishwashers when we remodeled. They are great for entertaining. Range hood – custom. Kitchen Paint Color Cabinets – Custom built, paint Dunn Edwards Swiss Coffee. Island Countertop Kitchen island: Custom built, 72”l, 36”w, 38”h, butcher block top. Farmhouse Sink Farmhouse sink: Rohl Original Single Basin Farmhouse Sink White. Faucets – Waterworks Easton Classic Two Hole. Backsplash Tile: Mission Tile West, Revival, 3” x 6” subway gloss white tile. Lighting Lighting – Island hanging pendants – Restoration Hardware (no longer available) Kitchen Flooring Flooring is Oak. Fall Decor I love how Leslie decorates her home for Fall. Isn’t it so beautiful? Wall Paint color – Farrow and Ball #32 (similar to Behr Sagebrush). Family Room The biggest change to our home was the expansion of the family room and kitchen in the remodel of 2000. We knew we needed a large space for our growing boys, especially when it came time to watching sports. Our architect even designed a large built-in linen press to house our TV and stereo equipment. I recently redid the family room by adding new slipcovers, a chair, a rug and art. I also hung three white wood chandeliers from a vintage ladder over the dining table. The white vintage windows on the wall (see picture below) are from the Long Beach flea market. Sectional: Pottery Barn Basic Slipcovered 2-Piece L-Shaped Sectional. Upholstered Chair: Pottery Barn Buchanan Roll Arm Slipcovered Swivel Armchair. Pillows: PB Drew Embroidered Pillow. Coffee Table: Vintage find from the Rose Bowl Flea Market. Floral artwork: Painted by the homeowner, Leslie Saeta Fine Art. Family Room Rug Rug: Pottery Barn Braylin Tufted Wool Rug. Farmhouse Ladder Chandelier Blog post about how to build my ladder chandelier. Dining Chairs: Crate and Barrel Village Wood Dining Chair. Dining table: Custom made. Vintage Windows Blog post about how to hang the vintage windows. Vintage White Windows on wall: Long Beach flea market. Paint Color Paint: Behr Tanglewood Project Room My new project room was formerly my office, and it had beautiful original wood on the walls, which was very dark. I didn’t really need an office and my life as a blogger necessitated the need for a craft room instead. So I painted the room white (it four coats) and I now just love this room! I found the table at the Rose Bowl Flea Market. It was painted turquoise but I sanded it and painted the legs black and its perfect as a work table. I have a separate art studio in our Carriage House (in the back yard) so this room is where all of the DIY’s for my blog happen! Cow Painting: Leslie Saeta Fine Art. Work Space Work Table: Rose Bowl Flea Market. Paint: Dunn Edwards Swiss Coffee. Metal Chest of Drawers: @throughtheporthole Master Bedroom In 2008 we decreased the size of our master bedroom so we could add a larger walk-in closet and bathroom. I love how the front eaves of our home add so much personality to this room. This summer we did a second renovation in our master bedroom, which included paint, new marble on the fireplace, new curtains, bedding, and new furniture. I made the headboard myself out of an old door and I love it. Paint Color Paint: Behr Pixel White. Bench: Overstock Elements Upholstered Dining Bench. Fireplace Tile Fireplace Tile: Mission Tile West, Carrera tile, 1” x 2” diamond Rhomboid honed. Tulips: Faux Soft Touch Tulip Bundle Flower. Furniture Headboard: Made by owner, door from @vintagejunktionla Side Tables: Gilford 2 Drawer Night Stand – Threshold. Side Table Lamps: Creative Co-op Wood and Metal Table Lamp. Rug: Target Evoke Safavieh. Pillows, Duvet: Pottery Barn. Bed Quilt: Target Raw Edge Quilt – Threshold. Master Bath We remodeled the master bath almost ten years ago and used honed marble throughout. When the house was built they had no concept of walk-in closets and large bathrooms. Originally the master bathroom also opened up to the sleeping porch so we knew we needed to close it off and make it larger. Tub: Mission Tile West – The Lagoon Cast iron Dual Tub with Pedestal. Tub Faucet: Mission Tile West, Rohl Perrin and Rowe exposed wall mounted tub filler. Tiling Floor Tile: Mission Tile West, Classic white basket weave honed. Shower Tile: Mission Tile West, Classic white 2” x 4” honed. Back Yard and Porch Our back yard has changed a lot since we moved in. We added the back porch, outdoor kitchen, pool and recently converted the paddle tennis court to a sand volleyball court. Outdoor Living The back porch is used just like another room in our home. With the fireplace and heaters in the ceiling, we use the room year round. Porch Chandelier: Purchased Décor Steals but also available here. Metal Dining Chargers: Vintage find from @thewarpedtable Great Finds Vintage Rod Iron Sofas: Long Beach Flea Market Rug: Pottery Barn Folly Indoor/Outdoor Rug. Tobacco Baskets: Etsy Vintage Tobacco Baskets. Rope Hanging Shelves: Hobby Lobby Sofa and Chair Cushions: Pier 1 Outdoor Dining We dine under the chandelier hanging from the tree all of the time. It’s the perfect setting to entertain guests. Teak Dining Table and Chairs: Purchased in Bali Plates: Wedgewood Edme Succulents Succulents: Rose Bowl Flea Market. Metal Dining Chargers: Vintage find from @thewarpedtable Rattan Placemats: Pottery Barn Water Hyacinth Round Placemat. The Art of Entertaining Last summer I hosted a rehearsal dinner in our backyard for my sister. The long table in our backyard and lights were the perfect setting! How to Make a Modern “Sunrise” Floating Mirror + Shelf
Sometimes an “oops” project turns into hours of frustration or a pile of materials in the corner of the garage — and sometimes an oops gives way to a project that’s even better than the original idea! Shara is here today to show you how she turned an “oops” mirror frame incident into a beautiful modern “sunrise” floating mirror and shelf during her master bathroom remodel:
Scroll down to get all the details from Shara, and consider giving your bathroom mirror a facelift using one of these other ideas as well:
Replace the builder grade mirror with a non-traditional mirror, like we did in our family bathroom renovation:
Add a frame to the standard mirror for some easy almost-instant style
or get creative and hang the mirror on a sliding barn-style rail to accomodate a window over the sink! (This would also be fun for a recessed medicine cabinet.)
Here’s Shara with all the details of her floating mirror and shelf — leave her some love in the comments and be sure to pay her a visit at Woodshop Diaries and check out all of her different building projects!
How to Build a Floating Mirror + Shelf by Shara from Woodshop Diaries
Hey guys!!! I’m Shara, and I’m so excited for the opportunity to share with you on Remodelaholic!! I am an engineer by day and a DIYer every other waking moment of my life. I started a little DIY blog over at Woodshop Diaries to document all my crazy projects. Sometimes it’s building a piece of furniture, sometimes it’s doing something crafty, and sometimes it’s gutting and remodeling a room…just for fun..
A little about me: My DIY obsession began when I repurposed an old window into a chalkboard. It was not a pretty project. There were definitely tears involved. But, I started out repurposing and refinishing furniture and other odds and ends, quickly transitioned into making wood signs, then quickly transitioned again into building furniture and remodeling our outdated house. I’ve been in the “building furniture and remodeling” phase for a while. I think I might stay here forever. I started a blog to show some of my projects, and to be able to look back at the “before pictures” of our house as we redid it. We recently had our two year “Homeiversary” and so much has changed since we moved in! One of the biggest changes we’ve made is remodeling our master bathroom. And that’s where one of my favorite DIY projects comes in–the Floating Mirror Shelf.
This was actually an “accidental” project. When we remodeled our bathroom, I had intentions of making a round wood frame for our mirror, but when I cut it out, I made it too thin. I was too cheap and lazy to redo it, so I tried something different with a scrap 2×4. And it worked…and only cost about $45….and looks even better than my original idea!

Materials:
Round mirror (mine is 36″ in diameter, purchased from a local glass shop)
2×4 (length will depend on size of mirror)
Kreg Jig
2 1/2″ Pocket hole screws
Drill
Table Saw (or you could use a router)
Level
Step 1: Get a mirror
I purchased a 36″ diameter mirror from the local glass shop. Once I got it, I determined how much of it I wanted to hang below the shelf and eyeballed the width across the mirror at that point. Remember that number. Mine was about 28″ wide and that left about 5-6″ hanging below the mirror.
Step 2: Find the studs
This is pretty self explanatory. Find and mark the studs on the wall where you want to hang the mirror.
Step 3: Determine the length of your shelf.
Locate where you want the center of your mirror on the wall and draw a line on each side of it 1/2 the length from step 1. Basically, you are just marking the location of the mirror on the wall. Now determine how long your shelf must be to hit AT LEAST 3 studs that DO NOT intersect the line you just drew. My shelf length ended up being about 54″ long. Once you have your measurement, cut your shelf this length. I used a 2×4 for the shelf.
Step 4: Mark your shelf
Now that your shelf is cut, hold it up to the wall where you want it and mark the stud locations and the center of the mirror on the shelf. Basically, you are just transferring all the marks on the wall onto your board
Then draw a line 1/2 the length from step 1 again on each side of the center of the mirror mark. So I measured 14″ from each side of the center of the mirror mark. You are just drawing a line where the mirror will sit on the board.
Step 5: Cut the slit for the mirror
Okay, now to the fun stuff. I cut the slit on my table saw. You could use a router, but a table saw was quicker and easier for me to use. I set the rip fence on my table saw to 3″ from the blade and cut the 2×4 ONLY along the line where I marked the mirror location. Don’t cut the whole board. You just want to cut where the mirror will be. The mirror was 1/8″ thick, so I had to make a couple passes on the saw for the slit. I just adjusted the rip fence a little closer to the blade (about 1/16″) after the first cut and ran it through again.
Step 6: Drill pocket holes at stud locations
Now that your slit is cut, you need to use a Kreg Jig to drill 1 1/2″ pocket holes at the stud locations you marked on the board. Make sure you drill the pocket holes at the right orientation–drill towards the back of the board. Remember, don’t drill holes at the studs where the mirror slit is cut. You cannot put a screw through the mirror!
Step 7: Attach shelf to the wall
You can finish the shelf now, or once it’s on the wall, but I recommend finishing it now. I was in too big of a hurry and had to take it down later to stain it. Once it’s finished (or not, if you are like me), line up the board with the stud marks on the wall, and use a drill to screw it into the studs with 2 1/2″ pocket hole screws. Use a level to make sure the shelf is straight.
Step 8: Place mirror in slot
Easy, peasy. Just slip the mirror into the slot (careful not to break the mirror!!) and make sure it’s not leaning. Mine set in the slot really well. If it has a tendency to lean forward, you can use a clip at the top to hold it in place if you want.
Step 9: Take a mirror selfie
Just kidding! This step is optional
.
Enjoy your beautiful new mirror!
Thanks so much for sharing, Shara!
