Day 30

So I googled what the word meant to be sure I knew what I was drawing. “Endgame” is like the final few steps before victory, if I’m not misunderstanding. So, here’s what Quint believes is her endgame (because I decided semi-recently that she deserves a character arc).

Lore:

She was happy, once.

She lived in a peaceful timeline. Wily hadn’t attacked in years, making her finally able to disarm. Her twin had finally come home, seemingly for good. They’d found a more sustainable work-around for her older brother’s condition. Her father was working on another sibling for them, too (how exciting!).

Everything was good.

She was happy.

Until it was all taken from her.

Stolen from her timeline and reprogrammed to fight her past self, Quint couldn’t help but get bitter and angry. Everything was finally good, finally perfect; how could he just throw that away?!

She was defeated and eventually reprogrammed so the “Fight Roll” directive was removed, but without the Time Skimmer she couldn’t return home.

The Time Skimmer was top secret. She didn’t know where it was, or even who built it.

For a while, she would be a very angry, very sad ally from the future. Roll couldn’t get much out of her other than her name - her new one, “Quint”, that is - and the occasional death threat, but she wanted to get to know her.

(Quint didn’t want the same. Roll only made her homesick.)

Then one day she overheard something about a lab that studies spacetime. She with a new lead, she began to chase her objective again with more desperation than ever before.

Eventually, she found the place.

The Chronos Institute.

And they were going to send her home, even if she had to force them to.

If you ever do redraws of the Freedom Fighters but in the Classic game style, can you use these redesigns from the Archie reboot, that are specifically made to fit in with the Classic games?

I don't know anything about the archie comics sorry, maybe one day I'll look into them.

So i rolled my ankle REALLY badly while out for my run at around 6:20 (bad to the point where renting crutches is being considered), so i just decided to say f making polished sketches, and just decided to have fun drawing whatever Jackbox Games Characters i wanted without care for stuff like anatomy or superb accuracy for once.

Also, fun fact: i forgot to put in my signature traditionally (since i only ever tend to do that after coloring) so the grand majority of these sketches has my signature digitally imposed with Photopea.

Also also, just figured out how people put images side by side in these posts...man i learn something new everyday on this site!

So here’s some descriptions of what each sketch entails in case it’s not clear:

Sketch 1 & 2: A little two-panel gag comic based on the fact that Rue’s facial features can just float whenever she pleases (featuring Bubz...mostly so i could make an excuse to draw the desk).

Sketch 3: Several of the animal hosts put into a single bunch with the text “la créturas” since i really like that set of words specifically! This features Mayonnaise being there, Professor Nanners T-posing like those shitposts where there’s always some 3D fellow t-posing over the horizons, Knack the frog pogging at the Geneva convention & the Tournament Dragon liking his own nostrils.

Sketch 4: The Wheel of Enormous Proportions dumping the water from M. Bubbles’ jug onto it’s face while their headless body stands by.

Sketch 5: Rue unknowingly talking to the Phoney Wheel of Enormous Proportions for 5 hours based on that one meme of a guy talking to a brick wall.

Sketch 6: Octoputtz saying “It’s as shrimple as that!” because A. it’s a meme, and B. he would 100% say something like that.

Sketch 7: Captain Chuck offering you some funny, partially inspired by Morshu, while gripping the supposed haha man a bit too hard.

Sketch 8: The thumbprints from Clone Booth take out the Dodecahedron from DODE, inspired by that one stock image of a guy stealing a wheel from a person’s wheelchair while they are still on it, as well as partially inspired by another sketch i made referencing the Yankee with no brim meme.

Sketch 9 & 10: A slightly modified redraw a draw the squad comic “Sometimes i wonder how i taste” featuring Gavin & Meegan

Sketch 11: A hi-res sketch of Meegan originally created for the previous prompt.

Sketch 12: Mick/Jackhead in their Jackbox Party Club attire, inspired by Sonic Archie Comic panel edit “Alone on a Friday night? God, you’re pathetic” that was originally going to have text accompanying it.

Sketch 13: Human from Zeeple Dome waving their flags aggressively, inspired by that one clip of a lady doing the same thing (i cannot explain this better i am sorry).

Sketch 14: Cookie Masterson eating his Dunkin’ order when you tell him to fuck off in Movies.

Sketch 15: An alien from Push the Button.

Sketch 16: An attempted realistic bust of the design for the green human on the Zeeple Dome menu select’s box art.

Honestly, very freeing thing for me to do, i’m surprised i don’t sketch my heart out like this more often! (but i could do without the pain in my leg, honesty)

Heard an Archie redraw was happening.  👀 I had some time, so I redrew one of my favorite panels!  ✨ Here’s also the original image!

Today marks the 11th anniversary of SonicSong182 joining YouTube, signaling the beginning of a journey into what it is today. There was no way I wanted to miss out on celebrating a monumental moment of my favorite Sonic YouTube channel and I had to make something for the occasion.

For starters, I went with some lineless art when drawing Amy and Knuckles, and seeing that LINE! released a series of stickers based on the sketches from the Japanese manuals of the first three Sonic games, it provided some good influence. The Master Emerald and Piko Piko Hammer were also done without any lineart though working on the hammer was much more difficult than I anticipated… Of course, that was nothing compared to coming up with a background. That left me stumped because I wanted to try and reference the channel intro used at the start of Ask the Sonic Heroes while also incorporating each lineless piece I did and how long this channel has been around for, but it didn't work out the way I wanted. On top of that, nothing was coming up on an idea for an alternate background choice… until yesterday.

There are times where I would read random issues from the Archie Sonic comic, especially from the rebooted continuity, and fortunately, it gave me the inspiration I needed to continue and finish this up. You know there is always a recap page in the later issues that has a section containing the major characters, also known as the "Character Select" column? If that's what this image reminded you of, then you guessed correctly. I was determined to replicate how it typically looks, from redrawing the ring that's around at least one character to finding the closest matching fonts, and it left me with some satisfying end results.

From myself and every member of Team182, we would like to say, "Happy 11th anniversary, SonicSong182!"

Oh man, I love those recent gijinkas, and you should never be afraid of putting them out there in the tag! ... But now I'm wondering: where's that panel you made a redraw of from (the one with the "ultimate crybaby")? I'm a sonic fan in the loosest sense of liking the characters a heckton but not having any clues about the various spinoffs, adaptions et.c. /sweats

Thought I’d use this as an excuse to go into a journey into the various branches of my Shard Redesign from late 2013! How’s about we see how a variation of it ended up in Ghosts of the Future, and thus the variation on the image above?

LATE DECEMBER 2013

I liked Shard and his colour design, but I’ll admit, the mechanical details didn’t impress me. So I did a design I felt hit what I look for in Sonic mechanical design a lot more.

Over the next few years over various redraws I’d adjust details on whim.

SONIC VARIATION 1

Another design take. The concept was more elaborate this time- no longer a tentative design to fit Archie Sonic, instead a design to fit my personal headcanon at the time of the Sonic games. This was around the time I decided to focus on his “battle” design, the red lights, the scary look that contrasts the easy-going personality. Around this time, I believe, Evan ( @spiritsonic​ ) asked me if she could use the design as a base to work from, and focused more on the green light, more personable design.

SONIC VARIATION 2

Around a time I started refocusing designs to fully match my ideal of Classic Sonic. Still same design overall, just refocused, some feedback taken from Evan, a grill, etc. Cues taken from Excalibur Sonic.

SONIC VARIATION 3

Done in a stream. Different colour, maybe a “Super Shard”? Used as a means to test some glow effects.

This was the last go I had at a “Shard the Mecha Sonic” design. From this point on, every variation I’ve done has been playing with the design, while removing all the Sonic elements from it.

OC VARIATION 1

Nothing much to this one- one of a number of characters in a big canvas of various designs where I grabbed multiple Sonic fancharacter and redesigns I did, and started reworking them into OCs of mine.

OC VARIATION 2

From a webcomic idea I had. I developed the design further, tried to push more outside the Shard mold, to the point of a recolour. Name, “Venusian”, for liking the sound of it.

OC VARIATION 3

Variation of the same character as “OC Variation 2″, meant to be 10 years earlier.

OC VARIATION 4

The creation of the webcomic mentioned above fell through, and the setting evolved in my plans and mind- including the removal of robotics. So the character got cut from the setting. Meanwhile, in my work with Cellar Chateaux, I started exploring the idea for a game, involving an army of robots-

And in that regard, I then considered again one of these robots being reworked into a variation of my Shard design. This is the current status of “Not!Shard”, the current design, not yet a character.

OC VARIATION 5

And that brings us to...

When making this gift for Evan, I used the basic vague game idea as a setting. This posed a problem- I already had a normal-Shard-expy, it’d be redunctant to just make him big for the GOTF-Shard-Expy. So I reworked the design further, wanting to emphasise his role as a big robot, inspired by Tetsujin 28. Hence finally reusing the green again, too.

A Christmas doodle set I did for @spiritsonic. I’ve for the past few years done redesigns of Sonic fancharacters to remove the “Sonic” from them, to make them original IPs, so to speak. Inspired by the recent posting of Ghosts of the Future and Shard’s introduction, I wanted to do something as a gift, and as a challenge, especially regarding Shard!

I’ve been tweaking Reese, but I’m still not sure which one I prefer.  The one in the middle is my least favorite right now (it was also my first attempt at redrawing him).  What I may do is combine both the left and right ones, but make the hat ‘removable’.  I like the idea of the hat being his signature, like Jughead in Archie comics, but I know there’ll be times when I need him to not be wearing it.  I’m also going to add some sort of image to the front of his t-shirt, probably a cartoonish ghost -- the skull he had in the old comic was just too cliche.
