The Secret Ingredient
Mira had always loved cooking, but no matter how much effort she put into her dishes, they never tasted as special as her grandmother’s. Her daal never had that warmth, her biryani lacked the soul, and even her simplest roti felt… ordinary.
One evening, as she struggled to perfect her grandmother’s famous chicken curry, her eight-year-old daughter, Aisha, peeked into the kitchen. “Mama, can I help?” she asked eagerly.
Mira smiled and handed Aisha a small spoon. “Taste this and tell me what’s missing.”
Aisha took a tiny sip and scrunched her nose. “It’s nice… but it doesn’t taste like Nanu’s.”
Mira sighed. “I know. I followed her exact recipe, but something is still off.”
Aisha giggled. “Nanu always says her secret ingredient is ‘love.’ Did you put that in?”
Mira laughed, shaking her head. “Maybe I forgot.” She ruffled Aisha’s hair and let her sprinkle the last pinch of garam masala. They stirred the pot together, laughing as Aisha exaggerated her “love sprinkle.”
When dinner was served, Mira took the first bite—and her eyes widened. It tasted just like her grandmother’s. Warm, comforting, and filled with something she hadn’t realized she was missing all along.
Love. 💛

hi jiyu: do you remember the foto of the rice cookie from south korea that you posted a little over a month ago in december?
do you remember the brand's name that came on the plastic wrap of your rice cookie?
Yup! It is just called- 미룡 달콤한 쌀과자(Mi-ryong sweet rice cracker), but I prefer chapssal (the green one which tastes like sour cream but more savory onion flavor) more. But it has too much sodium, you must only eat 2 packs.

Mexicanos, apparently. It's like lightly cheese-flavored rice crackers, but made out of corn.
(Including enough starch that they only taste lightly corny too AFAICT. Way less than tortilla chips, currently fucked-up sense of taste or no. Still not really smelling anything from them. They could well be aggressively cheesy and corny, in reality.)
Hadn't tried these before, but will no doubt want to pick up more of them. Very nice texture if you do enjoy senbei.

Which I kinda do, though the current supply is starting to run low. Hadn't tried that Thai-made coconut milk variety on the left before, but would definitely recommend those too.

"Happy" Food
The Mouse likes/”needs” crunchy snacks, potato chips are good, but too much fat and salts. The Mouse’s “ideal” snack of the moment is rice crackers, not so much salt, very little oil. Mmm! Crunchy 🙂 The Mouse’s MikeyD dinner. Happy Meal with Tomato Wedges added Happy Meal Toy Be well, eat well. The Mouse.

We were gifted Japanese goodies and sake from my boyfriend’s coworkers. The Rich Butter flavored Black Thunder was so heavenly. (^ー^)
The sake is called MUKU from Koshi No Kanbai and it is a Junmai Daiginjo from Niigata Japan. Muku means “unclouded, clear, and new” so I really want to channel that energy for the new year.
