Veteran Hollywood actors, Bette Davis and James Stewart, made just one movie together and it was late in their careers. They were both 78 years of age when the movie, Right of Way (1983) was filmed for HBO. It was reported they worked well together and had a professional respect for each other despite their very different personalities.

Teenager, getting out of the car: oh my god I am SO sorry
The mom, getting out of the car that blocked my escape-the-crash-path: why are you apologizing??
Me, gently t-boned by the teenager who was pulling out of a parking spot at dairy Queen:

[PT: a gif of John Travolta looking around, obviously confused]
"I saw the whole thing!" Cool! My bunnyfriend got the closest view, considering she was nearly hit! Didn't hear much more of that snobbiness after the teen quickly admitted a rearview check was not performed. I'll just assume the mom meant "why are you admitting fault" rather than "why do you feel guilty"
(everyone's ok btw! My mirror isn't tho)

Day 2367, 15 December 2024
Baffling road signs!
Close to where I live the road narrows between two buildings. These signs indicate who has right of way but seem to conflict. Maybe an expert on road signs and the Highway Code could interpret and tell me who has right of way before I have an accident?

From the comments "In my experience clothing on anyone looks best when it is done with confidence. We are all different shapes and sizes. I was really struck by your post on dressing well that included John Goodman in a faded t-shirt and jeans. He rocks it!"
Excellent advice, whatever gender or style one is looking for. Thank you
I'm a trans guy and Derek, I can tell you my wardrobe has improved a huge amount simply by reading your threads. The "dress for your body type" stuff never worked well for me; your threads about putting together an intentional look and for getting a good fit - that's 99% of the game.

The last days of the petition against conversion therapy are FASCINATING to watch. I have been following it pretty closely for almost a year now, and the progress was, above all, steady. There was this jump when some algorithm in Finland picked it up, but even that was local.
And now, everyone is panicking.
Which really shows.
These past three or four days, multiple countries have reached the threshold. Even more notably, the number of signatures in total, the ones that we need to get one million of, are growing rapidly. There are only 400'000 signatures missing. Two days ago, it was closer to 600'000.
You can see the progress here:
Consider joining the fun by making everyone around you sign it!

Growing up, I was the taught the Law of Who is Squishier which is where, even if you have the right of way and / or the traffic signals have already changed for your turn, you yield / back off if the incoming vehicle is bigger / heavier or the cross traffic doesn't look like they're going to stop.
"i have the right of way" was a form of protective charm uttered by urban travellers in the early 21st century. They believed this phrase acted as a ward against danger and injury, invoking the divine spirit of 'Traffic Law', one of their primary deities.

my family is fucking addicted to macgyvering and it's becoming a problem. every time something in this house breaks, instead of doing the sensible thing of replacing it or calling someone qualified to fix it, we all group around the offending object with a manic look in our eyes and everyone gets a try at fixing it while being cheered on or ridiculed by the rest.
it's a beautiful bonding activity, but the "creative" fixes have turned our house into a quasihaunted escape room like contraption where everything works, but only in the wonkiest of ways. you need a huge block of iron to turn on the stove. the oven only works if a specific clock is plugged in. the bread machine has a huge wood block just stapled to it that has become foundational to its function. sometimes when you use the toaster the doorbell rings. and that's just the kitchen.
it's all fun and games until you have guests over and you have to lay out the rules of the house like it's a fucking board game. welcome to the beautiful guest room. don't pull out the couch yourself you need a screwdriver for that, and that metal rod makes the lamp work so don't move it. it also made me a terrifying roommate in college, because it makes me think i can fix anything with enough hubris and a drill. you want to call the landlord about a leaky faucet? as if. one time my dad made me install a new power socket because we ran our of extension cords
