🦆 Lurching To Spring : A Post-A Day to Rite Of Spring 🦆 [7/30]

Woah! Happy 1 week to this series! I miiiight be slow on updates later down the line because Midterms week is here!

So, when's the events of Rite Of Spring happening again? Our story kicks off on the Easter Weekend as seen in this panel. Although Monica finds her lead on April 24, 1994, the story starts with a Good Friday-Easter Sunday trip.

But what could the holy weekend celebration have to do with the events of Rite Of Spring? I believe this may be a hint as to Sam's future with Monica on her back.

The Christian Denomination celebrates Lent as a commemoration of the final days of Jesus Christ before his sacrifice in Jerusalem during the Passover feast. The most important dates to remember are Good Friday, Black Saturday, and Easter Sunday.

The story technically begins on the evening to early morning of Holy Thursday where Jesus and his disciples have the last supper and Jesus washes the disciples' feet (save for Peter). They go into the garden of Getsemane where Jesus prays to his Father scared and questioning why must he be put to torture and death but ultimately accepts his fate. Jesus is caught by Roman soldiers led by Judas Iscariot and taken into custody to be trialed by Pontius Pilate the following morning. On this night, Peter denies his affiliation with Jesus three times before seeing his teacher for the last time before the ressurection.

GOOD FRIDAY (Sam leaves Woodbrook for an overnight trip; She may kill a person who may resemble the depictions of Christ or may run into Monica/George/someone who foreshadows her consequence). Jesus is brought in front of Jerusalem together with Barbaras (a notorious murderer and theif) for the tradition of releasing a prisoner and condemning the other to death during the Passover week. Pontius Pilate officiates this trial by asking the crowd who to release and who to punish: Jesus is chosen by the city to crucify. Jesus is flogged, beaten, given a crown of thorns, and is made to bear a wooden cross to Golgotha where he is nailed to the cross and endures a slow, painful death while being mocked by the Roman government. He dies at 3 pm and the earth is struck by a great shaking as the sky turns black.

BLACK SATURDAY: The body of Jesus is taken down from the cross and laid to rest in a tomb by Joseph of Arimathea. The disciples go into hiding in fear of being put to death by associating with the rabbi. On this day, Christians also believe that Jesus descended into Hell and faced a similar trial with the devil.

EASTER SUNDAY (Sam returns to Woodbrook or had returned Black Saturday; April 5, 1994): Jesus rises from the dead and leaves the tomb empty. He appears to several of his followers in the next days.

Though Rite Of Spring's events won't follow the same structure as the Easter gospel or the same events or abide by the timeline, we can mirror some of the events of the comic to the scripture.

JESUS CURSES THE FIG TREE: Sam's resentment for the commercialization of Woodbrook. Perhaps now that a big box department store has arrived in town and depletes Burly Brown's income, Sam may feel the need to do something about it. Jesus curses the fig tree because it bears no fruit, and Sam might curse the department store in a more violent, passionate way. Maybe this mirrors more the story of Jesus cleansing the temple?

AGONY IN THE GARDEN: Let's consider the possiblity that Monica is our POV character in ROS too. Centerville has become her Getsemane- eight years toiling away, waiting, tortured by the ghost of death; She's holding on to the possibility that he might be found dead or alive- hopefully alive, but she knows he's dead. She's accepted he's...gone. This could also go for Sam on her camping trip, and Issue 2 will be a reflective issue focused on her journey becoming the established businesswoman and serial killer she is today. But Woodbrook's changing, not in her favor, and she's racing to find any control again. Yet, doom is certain at the end of this line.

THE TRIAL BEFORE PILATE: It's been heavily implied Sam will be punished for her crimes in this last installment. She is going to face the greater judicial system...but what Sam turns it in her favor? Jesus and Barbaras; Monica and Samantha.

GOLGOTHA: Horvath highlights that a major theme of Rite Of Spring is SACRIFICE. Jesus' sacrifice is a selfless act to ensure that humanity would have a chance to gain eternal life in heaven by making his body a ransompiece to the devil.

Monica has made a great sacrifice herself- a selfless sacrifice to find any trace of her brother and compromises all aspects of her life to bring him to justice. Her health. Her sanity. Her dreams. All put on hold to maybe serve a greater justice to the fifty innocent people who've been eaten up by the city.

But there are selfish Sacrifices. A prediction I and a few others have about Sam's future is that she is going to hide away to live with the bears in the wild or reinvent herself, get a new identity, or die. Maybe sacrifice here is fully letting go of that life she held on to before Nigel's rampage on Woodbrook. Sam sacrifices her individuality, her identity, her place in town to live as one of them. It is going to be a big sacrifice for her, but ultimately one more to ensure she lives, and that reestablishes that this world really has no place for her.

WHAT GAME ARE YOU PLAYING, SAM

It’s impossible to pin down what Sam is currently like eight years after the first story from this first book alone, but I highly doubt she’s suddenly gained a conscious and wants to be caught. Sam has always been distantly aware of the pain she must be causing the families of her victims, but she doesn’t care. She never has and I severely doubt she will start now.

Why would a person like Sam be trawling cold case investigation websites? To track down loose ends in case anyone actually came sniffing, would be my guess. The rise of the internet and what happened with Nigel has made Sam paranoid of being caught, we can see as much in the preview of the comic that was available before publishing (sorry I don’t have screenshots) that Sam has changed her habits, alternating her hunting grounds instead of sticking to the city she got all her other victims from (while still keeping clear of woodbrook).

Sam is overconfident, believing she can take out this duck as easily as she did any of her other victims. But Monica is even more dedicated to finding her brother and his killer than Sam has ever been about anything.

Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees Rite of Spring New Female Lead?

This post is for fan entertainment, I am not being paid.

Hi everyone,

Ok I super excited for Rite of Spring since they have released screenshots of some scenes. So, I thought I would do a thoughts post of what I think could help happen in this new series.

Now please note that everything here is completely speculations, so please take everything with a grain of salt. Also, this post when have mentions of violence and death if this isn’t your cup of tea, I recommend one of my other posts.

Now the main focus of some of the artwork I seen is this female duck. Now I want to say this duck lady is either a relative or romantic interest of Daniel Brewer (the male duck that Sam had killed in the original series).

I could be assuming just because that she is a duck that she is looking for Daniel, but he is the most recent death that happen, and he is one of the youngest (that we know of) victims that Sam had gotten too.

Some of the scenes that I have seen with Ms. Duck has her conducting her own investigation. Going over other murder victims. But we can assume (it’s pretty obvious that these victims are not Sam’s) that these are not Sam’s victims because one thing Sam is she is tidy, and she disposes of the bodies when she is done “organizing” them. Most of the victims in the scenes look like they while A: They were still conscious. One of the victims died to a gunshot there was bullet casing next to the body. Another died to a machete. Another had blunt force trauma to the head. This proves the point these aren’t Sam’s victims.

Because even if we went back to Praludium, we could probably say that Otto’s death wasn’t as clean as Daniel since Otto died when he was a wake, so the death wasn’t as neat as her later victims.

Most of these bodies that Ms. Duck has found are murdered and left behind, that’s one thing that I want to say that is similar to Sam, that the victims are not the same.

Now it seems that she is knee deep into internet sleuthing posting on forms online to give herself some semblance of peace.

On one of the comics panels, we do see a username that MBrewer60, I want to say this is a family member. Now with that being said, Brewer is the last name. Ms. Duck first name starts with a M.

Looking at one post I did read what was available, and the identity of Ms. M Duck is that she is the sister of Daniel Brewer.

Which stepping back and looking at this would make sense. I can’t be too sure when this investigation takes place, all we know is since the title says spring, we could say that it takes place the following year or many years down the line.

Something We Probably Aren't Supposed To See...

This is most likely an official separate account for BTTWNS! It looks like it was recently created, and hello Horvath!

More importantly, we got our FIRST LOOK at RITE OF SPRING as seen in the account's profile photo (perhaps a scene in the first issue! Sam got a redesign!)

I'm moving homes right now and my mom brought over a box of old photos so, here's a photo from when I was younger! I think i was 19 in this one. My parents used to let me have a little garden plot in the backyard, back when I still lived in Woodbrook. It was just a silly little flower garden, but it was mine. Though, I think they had to dig it up when they fenced in the yard Kind of a bummer

So it's been 3, 4 days since Rite Of Spring #1 came out and I was particularly thinking about Sam (then Monica's) fixation on the past. Where Monica digs herself a grave running in circles and putting all her eggs in one basket, Sam acknowledges change has come- is coming, she needs time to dream for a while. Dream that Woodbrook is still that sunlit garden protected from this dirty world. So while ROS has surprised me with its ending, I too will put all my eggs in one basket (issue 2) to explain why that is. If she's still dreaming or it's a sort of rude awakening she needs Monica for. Who's to say.

I can't wait. Let me dream for a few more weeks.
