So today has been a really rough day. Decided to do some baking, you know, frustration baking 😅

Made mini muffins

Chocolate espresso with caramel chips. They are amazing.

The other ones were supposed to be something like carrot cake, with carrots and raisins, cinnamon, nutmeg, nuts and orange zest. My husband tries one and goes they taste like literally nothing. Of course I didn't believe him. But he's right. Somehow, despite all those ingredients, they have literally zero flavor 🤣🤣. I didn't know that was possible.

So... negative flavor muffins are a thing. Who knew. Maybe that's what ration bars taste like? 🤔

Taking a few months to pull away from too much internet saturation in order to focus on my new career has been totally worth it because yesterday I received an offer to interview next week for a promotion. Three months in, and a promotion!!!

So, I'm slow on updates, but yeah, this whole opportunity has been very important to me to put first lately. I will be back to regular updates maybe sometime next month. ❤️

I had a lovely Sunday lunch with two mutual friends, A and B, with the added delight of facilitating a budding sapphic teen relationship!

A and B both have 15-year-old daughters. Recently, daughters discovered each other on social media, without realising they had met before, when they were both wee little things.

Daughters mutually agreed that they find one another hot and online flirtation commenced. They then discovered that their mums knew one another, and promptly demanded that the mums meet up for lunch and allow daughters to tag along and go shopping together. So the mums plus me had lunch and the daughters went on a date :)

Please repost this around! Recently I had to take my cat to the emergency vet. She's on the mend now, but I need help recovering the vet bills and medication, as well as looking ahead to the follow-up with her usual vet. As of posting we're only a third of the way there (the total goal is $300), so there's still a ways to go.

Guess who just put in their one week notice at the hotel they worked at?

Do I care that's it's near the holiday when the Muslims go home to visit their family and the hotels might be packed? No, I do not.

Do I care how understaffed they might be? No, it's not going to be my problem much longer.

Are they going to get mad at me? Yes, but I'm not the one who broke the contract agreement first.

They made my wait for my pay until it's past the middle of the month and they only paid half. The agreement was that they pay me after the end of every month.

It's nearly the end of this month and they only paid me fucking half for last fucking month pay.

This has been going on for every fucking month since I worked there in 2022. Always late when paying their workers but gets angry and demanding perfection when we don't have the motivation afterwards to do a good job.

A deal is a deal. Even if it's not a crossroad deal. They're lucky I gave them a week to find my replacement.

Not fandom related but, some time ago, my sisters and I decided to take the Myers Briggs personality test for fun and giggles.

My older sister and I had already taken it some years ago, but we wanted to do it again to see if the results were the same (and because non of us remembered well what we had got that time besides the type).

Anyways, when we finished, we shared results and—

•My older sister told me she is an INTP-T. Then realized she didn't remember what type she got the last time and therefore she couldn't compare.

•My type actually changed? But some months later I did it again and was the same than before. Huh. (Btw, I went from INFP-T to ISFP-T to INFP-T again. Does taking it more than once affect the results? Idk and I don't care. But also, I have a really bad memory for most thing, so it probably doesn't. It also could be that I took it after I went out of a really bad mood. Like, I-need-a-therapist bad. No, I didn't see one. But I have a dog, so.)

•I don't remember what my little sister got on type because we got too trapped in other part of the results like—

Taking a social media break detox for mental health while I prepare to transition into a new career, but tumblr will never shake me, I've been here too long, so I'm still here. Also, I will still be writing, but I have to pull back from too much social media for a moment so I can focus while I start a new leg on my life journey. ❤️

Wait, what’s going on with Embers???? That fic has been on my read later list since 2021, what’s happened with it???

Brief overview, then I'm likely never touching this topic again, because this is not a Drama Blog:

Context: Embers is a super old AtLA fic that was written during the early fandom days, read widely at the time, and was the origin of the widely-used fanon name of "Wani" for Zuko's ship (kind of by default that it was one of the first popular fics to give his ship a name, I think?), even though most fic writers don't seem to realize it's from there anymore.

"What's Going On": I used to include a link in all my stories to it, because I believe in crediting other writers for borrowed elements, and I was using "Wani" in all my fics. But BOY did I not want to be sending readers that way anymore, so I've adopted a new name for Zuko's ship, and removed all Embers links.

None of the criticisms about Embers itself are new; I'm assuming they date back to when the fic was being written, because this isn't an "it aged badly" thing, this is an "actually yeah this gets worse the longer you think about it and I shouldn't have ignored my bad feelings just because some of the worldbuilding was interesting" thing.

An Incomplete List of Why I Made the Change:

I don't actually like the story that much anymore, and don't want to rec it

I tried to re-read it recently to see if some things were as bad as I remembered and it turns out they were So Much Worse Oh Yikes. More specifically, the treatment of Katara and Aang and their respective cultures has... rather a lot going on. One example: The Fire Nation and Air Nomads are both given multiple backstory elements in an attempt to make the average Fire Nation soldier's participation in the genocide/war in large part the fault of the Avatar and the Air Nomads themselves, and also fully justified from the Fire Nation perspective. And I do mean fully. One of its core tenants is "People from the Fire Nation (and only people from the Fire Nation) who don't follow orders Literally Die, therefore murdering pacifists and babies and continuing the war (and their regularly scheduled war crimes) is the only thing it is physically possible for them to do". I cannot emphasize enough how literal that is.

Also the name "Wani" means "Alligator" and is... objectively a pretty lame name for Zuko's ship? Where's the personality, where's the deeper meaning, where's the resonance with Zuko's themes? @tuktukpodfics initially thought I was calling the ship "Wanyi", and that's what I've switched to, because it is Objectively So Much Better. In their words: “Wànyī (萬一): Literally ‘one in ten thousand,’ ‘perchance.’ Used grammatically in Chinese to mean ‘what if’ or ‘just in case.’ I think a ship called ‘The Perchance’ is perfect for a boy clinging to false hope.”

TL:DR; I don't rec Embers anymore, because I don't actually like the story anymore, and there are things about it that get worse the more I think on them. I've removed links to it and renamed Zuko's ship to "Wanyi" ("The Perchance") because our boy deserves a ship name that reflects his character arc.

Alright, folks, let’s talk about how to sleep sitting up, because apparently people don’t know how to do that. As someone who has spent two or so months out of every year for over half my life having to sleep propped up, can’t relate, but we move on.

First, you need a solid base layer to put everything else on. Preferably a solid pillow, but anything that gives you a base layer slightly above the bed level. Next, a big fluffy layer between the back and the headboard. This serves to prop up your shoulders and is ultimately what your head rests against. Up to you how tall. The essential third layer. The flimsiest, squishiest layer. It bridges the gap between the bed and your other layers and provides your lower back with support.

Exact angles and heights are up to you and are between you and your body. Go forth and sleep comfortably when you can’t lie down.
