Flynn has always had a remarkable knack for doing a LOT of Narrative/Emotional legwork in a fairly narrow time-frame, and as you both say, the relative simplicity of the original "Mega Man" story means it works VERY nicely with that style. Spaziante's art also really does work wonders here, the deft blend of the Intricate Detail with clear simple shapes proves exceptionally compelling and the choices of angle and framing is really strong throughout.

I love this whole "converting Rock into a combat robot" montage, its prolly one of my fave parts of the whole comic! From Dr. Light's monologue, testing out Mega Man's features, to the awesome art and spark effects done by Spaziante, It all comes together to make a grand 1st issue!

Didn't think you could fit the whole introduction of Mega Man in one issue, huh? xD Well, the first game's story was just that simple, though the narrative here takes a lot of inspiration from the Mega Man: Powered Up remake, right down to the Wily evil plan announcement. This comic's full of homages to moments from the games and remakes!

Omg, thank you, and this is such a great ask. I really had to think about this.

Tohru: I feel like she’d like Ridley for being so, well, dragon-like. She’d also probably appreciate Bayonetta after hearing about the whole “killing angels” thing, given her own thoughts on God. If she played any other characters, she’d definitely stick to the “villains”, like Bowser or K. Rool.

Kanna: ABSOLUTELY Pichu. I mean, of course, right?

Kobayashi: Probably someone she recognizes from her childhood games, so maybe Zelda? I feel like she’d definitely steer towards the classic characters. Zelda and Link, most likely.

Elma: Palutena. I also want to make a joke about her and Kirby, but tbh I’m not sure if she would. She’d also be terrible at the game, let’s be real.

Fafnir: Whoever’s considered S-Tier at the moment. Fuckin’ tryhard.He knows all the matchups and will pick to counter whoever he’s playing against.

Takiya: Plays a variety of characters because he plays more than the others, and plays against fafnir. Hard to pick specific ones for him, but I bet he’s the kind of guy who mains a female character and gets attitude for it when he plays in local tourneys, right before he casually destroys them. Probably Peach, for that.

Lucoa: Absolutely terrible. Plays Jigglypuff and Isabelle because they’re cute. Typically runs off the edge of the screen 5 times in a row at the beginning of the match.

Shouta: Robin & Ness. Maybe also plays R.O.B. Feels too embarrassed to pick any of the girl characters. Tries to explain the rules and mechanics to other players who don’t understand them, even when he’s facing them. Just a good kid.

Saikawa: Doesn’t play, cheers Kanna on, distracts her by attempting to hug her while she’s playing.

I genuinely consider Archie's "Mega Man" comic to be one of the single best takes on the "Mega Man" franchise ever; given the...spotty record of Mega Man adaptations, that's maybe not saying much, but still, I'd put them proudly right alongside the actual games themselves as genuinely essential material for "Mega" fans. So I'm definitely excited to see them get The Big @robotnikholmescomicblog run down!

This is a very striking cover! It's got good colours, nice art by Patrick Spaziante, and shows all the important characters...so important that Rush the dog ain't even here yet, and Roll's got her post-Mega Man 8 clothing. They had to go with what was most eye-catching for fans back then, huh?

It's been a little while since I covered old Archie Comics properties on here, so what say you we have quick look at Mega Man #1?
