Best Pokémon Villains Tournament- Individuals Bracket- Round 2: Match 1

And so we kick off Round 2 of our most villainous tournament to date with two redheaded winners from Round 1!

Lysandre had a close struggle against side game star Nobunaga, but he came out on top- a testament to the power of being a Team leader it seems! Still, he didn't have an easy time, and now against another main game character, has he met his match? Well, your votes can still swing things his way!

Between Lysandre and victory stands Ariana! Having proved herself the vastly more popular Team Rocket admin over Proton last Round, she's not one to underestimate! While not a formal Team leader like Lysandre, she had more support in the comments of her last match than he did, so it could be anyone's game!

Ohhhh god imagine if Proton of all people got slapped with the self aware shtick and not only found out that he was a character in a game but that he was a lot more PG than he ever wanted to be

He worked so hard to get into the violent side of Team Rocket but the fact that it’s just a kids game is devastating to him

After player goes to bed he’s just knocking back lemonade like a shot because the game won’t let him get drunk

The player just keeps running around him in circles instead of facing him in battle and advancing the plot or even flat out resetting the game after their final encounter so he just has to keep showing up unexpectedly just so that he doesn’t get erased

He only signed up to chop up slowpoke tails why did this have to happen

NOW THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!!

Proton of all people becoming self aware, and it being such a shock, the game crashes.

He isn't real. His team isn't real. His boss isn't real.

They are all just a bunch of lines of code in a toy.

Proton feels a wide range of emotions. Anger, shock, and even despair.

The criminal empire himself and his fellow Rockets have cultivated for years... is just... not real.

And even worse?

Depending on how fast you play the game, everything they have accomplished crumbles to dust in either a span of days, or even just a few hours.

Somehow you manage to completely obliterate every Rocket grunt and Admin, and even their boss in every battle you engage with. Even in what you call 'challenge runs', you still win.

Just his luck. He doesn't even have a chance to win this game. It was always rigged from the start.

At least... You seem to like him. But he doesn't know if that makes him feel better, or if it makes this whole thing sting even worse. Especially when you basically reset time just to meet him again, and again...

who's the other parent? was it just a surrogacy situation, is the other parent still in the picture, or is it like silver where the other parent is never actually stated and we're just left to speculate?

what was her childhood like in general? was archer a decent father and it was the team rocket shit alone that made her pissed off or is there another layer to it?

what did the other executives/admins think of her as a kid? what about now?

what does archer think of her now that she's really against team rocket?

honestly? she was designed with the intent of the mother being a random grunt. lmfao. thats never going to be stated ingame though

archer was a decent father at first, though in the years after giovanni vanished he became obsessed with finding him and started neglecting all his relationships (including his relationship with minerva.) he was never straight up physically neglectful, she always had food on the table etc, though he was extremely emotionally neglectful/absent

i imagine proton tried his best to ignore her. hes not a kid person. ariana is in the same boat, but i think petrel would be shockingly good with kids. hed play with her a lot when she was small and bored. now that she's older and mostly estranged from archer, proton more than anything blames archer for driving her away by being a shitty parent. ariana and petrel left team rocket in the dust long ago, so they dont really know whats going on with her.

he treats it somewhat as an edgy teenager phase, assuming that she'll come crawling back any day now. (she wont.) that is until he gets defeated and his plans are dashed for good. (spoiling my own game lmfao) and he has the epiphany that this is entirely his fault and he fucked over everything himself. he wonders if theres any way he could possibly make it up to her. the answer? no lol

Mars puts the Pokeball the took from the hiker she'd beaten up, possibly killed she's not sure what happened to him after she left him bleeding, on the side of the mountain. Inside the Pokeball is a Gligar whose quick to start flying around the room when released. It stops landing near Proton to sniff him and eye him hesitantly but curiously. It recognizes the scent of other bats on but also the scent of blood.

Rocket Admin Proton was gifted a Gligar by Galactic Commander Mars!

Family. To Ariana, it's a term that has been horribly mangled and twisted over the years.

Her mother and father had been family, and yet they had forfeited their only daughter over to a monster, swayed by greed and the Masked Man's honeyed words. (Weren't families supposed to stick together?)

Her and the other abducted children had been family, but the Masked Man's icy rule kept them in line, discipline and punishment looming overhead like executioner's guillotines, a pair of hungry jaws threatening to rip them apart from each other. (Weren't families supposed to be loving, kind, and supportive?)

And now, after Rocket and Giovanni helped Ariana pick up the pieces of her psyche, the Executive finally understands. Even when Archer dumps endless piles of disciplinary reports on her desk, even when Proton tracks blood into her spotless office, even when Petrel reprograms her damn Murkrow to sing annoying jingles from the radio...and even when loyal admins and grunts badger her with unnecessary questions, requests, complaints...

Despite her strict, impassive demeanor, Ariana would go to bat for any of them. She would even die for some of them. For better or worse, the Executive has cast her lot in with this band of broken souls and outcasts, committed wholeheartedly to Rocket's vision, to keeping everyone together and unified towards the cause.

Against all odds, Ariana has finally found a family here. And she wouldn't trade her allegiance to Rocket--in all its twisted, imperfect glory--for anything in the world.

Lucy and Archer first met when the Pike Queen used Rocket's services to obtain her Steelix, a former Rocket tunneler. Bonding over their shared appreciation for poisons and gambling, the pair quickly became...close associates. Lucy was given permission to visit Rocket's hideouts without interference, and Archer was given a visitor's pass into the Battle Frontier should he ever be detained there.

Archer often shows up on Lucy's doorstep in the middle of the night, covered in blood or in some sort of trouble. While she pretends to hate such intrusions, Lucy always lets him inside for a drink, patching him up if needed. Both of them know to stay in their own respective lanes, so such meetups are usually extremely discreet. (And at least Archer uses the door. She's sick of Proton phasing in through the wall.)

To get under Archer's skin, Lucy will sometimes visit the Rocket-sponsored Game Corners in the Kanjoh regions and absolutely clean them out when he's not around. (Archer is one of the few people who can actually outlast her at poker. If they ever combined forces, they could easily bankrupt any gambling operation.)

Archer is Vera's favorite executive/admin. He's one of the few people who can actually pet the Seviper without getting his hand taken off. Likewise, Lucy always has plenty of scritches and high-grade Pokeblocks ready for Archer's pack of Houndooms.

[A "human" with a Zorua tail is picking up a keycard on the floor, when suddenly a knife is brought to xyr neck.

"So we finally meet, Menace," a green-haired person with a Rocket emblem says. Proton, one of the Team Rocket admins. "Or should I say Zorua? Or Illanero? Come on, what should I call ya? I'm cruel, but I'm not cruel enough to deadname someone."

Illanero stayed silent, tail between xyr legs.

"Quiet, huh? Bet you're wondering how we know about you?" Proton asks. "We know everything, kid. You should have quit while you had the chance."

"Now, this lovely knife is called Top Surgery," Proton says. "I like using it on repo jobs. Always gets so dirty, though, and I just cleaned it this morning. And I'd prefer not to get it dirty again so quickly."

"So, what'll it be, kid?" Proton asked, still holding the knife to Illanero's neck. "Will you be a good Zorua and leave? Or will I have to show you how the repo man does his job?"

"I..." Illanero began, before xey were suddenly much shorter and much more Zorua-shaped. No longer under immediate threat of the knife, xey dashed down the hallway, keycard in xyr mouth.

Proton simply smirked.
