Rogue Trader - Act 2 - Heinrix Footfall
At the beginning of act 2 Heinrix will shortly leave you on Footfall. You can get him back quite fast and easily - you only need to go to the Atrium and speak with the Liege and you will get a quest update that repairs on the ship are done and you are needed back.
Just head back to the docks where your shuttle is waiting and Heinrix will be waiting for you.
It is worth it to do this before running around for the other quests on Footfall because you will otherwise miss out on dialog for Heinrix.
For example:
1. Heinrix and Idirah (Argenta will add to the dialog too) if you talk to Hieronymus Doloroso about who the enemies of the Imperium are:
Tumblr media
2. The "Figaro/pirate funeral" quest - here Heinrix will comment at the start of the quest (if you select the "What is this place and what is going on here?" line)
Tumblr media
-> If you arrive incognito on Footfall and here for this quest pretend to be Fidelio you get an interesting different quest process where you eventually get a little more dialog with Heinrix (as response to who is going to wade into a canal filled with waste and excrements to pull a lever...)
3. Heinrix on meeting Jae in the cantina (Martyr's Endurance) - this is even voiced
Tumblr media
Heinrix has additional dialog in the cantina - with Ryzz, (Fellowship of the void reputation contact), the one guest (Gordei Skatov, who speaks about Footfall architecture) and with Octaviana (the bartender).

Here is a post from me regarding the drink at the bar you can have.
Tumblr media
4. If you talk to the Liege, there is a short conversation between him and Heinrix too:

One of my absolute favorite in-game moments and the solidifying event of Vis' friendship with Jae. More RPGs/CRPGs should make a point to include platonic events with companions and not gatekeep bonds between characters behind romances.
This is the good shit that sells me on companions and in-game worlds. I want my character to be bonded to these freaks through drunken, havoc-inducing situations that will be on the front page of every trashy tabloid this side of The Maw!
You just know both Abelard and Heinrix were in full meltdown mode by the end of the night.

Rogue Trader - Heinrix dialog - Drink in Cantina
On Footfall (act 2 or 4 works) if you go to the Cantina you will learn that Heinrix has been there before (Octaviana the bartender directly assumes his presence means the RT is not for pleasure but rather for business reasons there)
Tumblr media
You can try what the locals drink and Heinrix will warn you (he tried it before which is interesting - that he would drink it in the first place (low quality) and that he would drink while on the job).
Tumblr media
If you pass a thoughness check you can drink it without wincing (I haven't had the version where I failed so no screenshot of this unfortunately) and Heinrix says nothing but is impressed
Tumblr media
Based on the localization file (look unter your game directory -> Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader\WH40KRT_Data\StreamingAssets\Localization) I think he is replying "So much for my warning" if the check fails.

Midnight stroll (WIP)
Ana’s relative solitude was soon to be interrupted however, as the sound of heavy boot steps came from the area she had come from earlier.
She turned to observe the source of the new sounds, initially thinking it was a house guard on night duty only for it to be none other than Heinrix Van Calox, the Inquisition agent she had picked up back on Rykad Minoris and then later once again on Footfall.
From her perch she watched him intently, wondering if he had perhaps followed her, though a quick and thorough observation told her he had no idea she was in the same room as he was. He strolled up to a window that gazed out into the void beyond and seemed to quietly take in the starscape outside, hands folded behind his back.
Ana tilted her head to the right slightly like a curious dog. From the moment she had first laid eyes upon this man in the Electrodynamic Cenobium a few months before he had fascinated her to no end. His clearly carefully crafted cold and pitiless demeanor practically beckoned to her a challenge to see what sort of man he truly was, a challenge only further fueled by the observations of her navigator Lady Cassia.
And so it had been that, bit by bit, through conversations and arguments alike, she had begun to catch tantalizing glimpses of that amber colored ember within him. And it only made her want to see more.
“Hey there stranger!” She called out to him, her voice friendly and casual.
Heinrix rounded quickly at the sound of her voice, briefly glancing about to determine its source until his gaze rested upon her. For a moment she could swear she caught a glimpse of fear or embarrassment upon his features before he regained his composure and cleared his throat.
“Lord Captain I…..was not aware that you were here at this hour.”

RT replay has crossed over into self-indulgent territory, my pace is SO slow because I keep wanting to take Xinrix pics 😂
but also - knowing more of the general world lore has made for different dialogue and decision choices this time round (and also because Xin's base traits have changed from pyro/telepath to diviner/telepath. Plus, Thelisi is here too!

There's a side conversation between two NPCs in the sewers in Rogue Trader to this effect:
"Well at least we're getting more corpse starch"
"Oh is it made out of rat corpses."
"Oh no...not that at all"
Corpse grinder cult is giving out free BBQ on Necromunda, just don't ask where the meat comes from
I think if you find yourself unable to intuit where the Corpse Grinder Cult sources their meat, frankly you deserve the resultant Kuru

MEET THE RETINUE ⮚ JAE HEYDARI
Footfall is full of daredevils, criminals, and those who walk the fine line between righteousness and heresy. Someone who has tread that line for many years without ever crossing it is Jae Heydari, head of the smuggling network under the auspices of the Kasballica Mission. Jae Heydari and the Rogue Trader are bound by a pact of mutual favours: the wisdom of a Cold Trade specialist in exchange for the high patronage of the Emperor's anointed. However, there is much more to Heydari's past than disagreements with the Kasballica Mission — a past she prefers to keep well buried.

First time Heinrix sees Runa pet a fluffy creature. 😸
“Rogue Trader?”
The Interrogator’s imperious voice rang out across the bustling dock, his words loud enough to carve cleanly through the din of the rabble. Tall and broad, the man cut a strong, indomitable figure, the crimson mantle at his back bearing a not-so-subtle reminder of the Inquisition’s ever-watchful presence.
The authority of that Inquisitorial presence accompanied the heavy tread of the Interrogator’s boots against plasteel grating. Catching the attention of many a wary port guard, he inadvertently drew glances of both fear and resentment, his appearance alone attracting more than just a few curious pairs of eyes.
But Heinrix was unconcerned with the whispers of locals. His focus never deviated from the back of the Lord Captain’s head, eyes locked onto the mane of ivory hair that she had bundled into a substantial yet untidy chignon at the nape of her neck. Not once did she turn around, instead stepping into a hurried, purposeful stride as she left her retinue behind, in pursuit of a goal yet unknown.
Heinrix’s frown deepened, and his pace increased in order to catch up with her, ignoring the pointed stares from the other members of her retinue. Footfall’s reputation preceded it – the dock was a lawless place at the best of times. Losing sight of the Rogue Trader in a place as busy and unpredictable as this one could only spell disaster.
Ultimately, the Lord Captain was unaware of his concerns for her safety, and thus, she continued unabatedly. But even then, her pace gradually began to slow, and she came to a halt directly before the door of a rusted container; where she dropped to her knees, crouching low against the plasteel walkway.
“Rogue Trader!”
Still, she did not turn around, and the poorly concealed impatience was evident in his exasperation. He blew out a huff of irritation as he closed in on where she was kneeling, coming to a stop behind her.
“Runa.”
Folding his arms across his chest, Heinrix stared down his long nose at where the woman remained crouched, tending to something as yet unseen. His curiosity was masked by an increasingly irritated glare – she either did not understand the dangers surrounding her, or she did, but simply did not care. Recalling her background, he assumed it was the latter – but those days were well and truly over. A considerable responsibility now rested upon her shoulders, and hers alone. And what use would it be to the ancient and esteemed House von Valancius for its last remaining heir to be stabbed by a cultist in a Footfall alleyway? She needed to reevaluate her position – and remain focused in the meantime.
Runa stood carefully, clutching something small within both hands, and the Interrogator was pulled out of his thoughts and back into the present. Frowning impatiently into the back of her head, he considered what it was that she had been so eager to retrieve. Like any smuggler worth their weight, she had developed an additional sense for discarded archeotech – something that may fetch a high price on the black market. Perhaps she had located a cache of some description.
But after a few moments, Runa turned around to face him – and nothing could have prepared Heinrix for what she was carrying.
Supported by one gloved hand and nestled against the swell of her chest was a tiny lump of black fur; an object that he recognised instantly as a trembling kitten.
The Rogue Trader did not acknowledge him, but the soft wonder in her eyes as she gazed down at the juvenile cat almost immediately threatened the integrity of Heinrix’s stoic foundation. He remained utterly frozen in place, watching as the fragile creature nestled comfortably against her, trusting the Rogue Trader implicitly – just like any other of her devoted subjects.
He didn’t have to wait long before Runa glanced up at him, her face split by a radiant smile. The index finger of her free hand tickled the kitten’s tiny chin.
Oh– well, this was not at all what he had been expecting.
Speechless and utterly blindsided by her smile, of all things, Heinrix found himself unconsciously gravitating a step closer, his arms dropping to rest loosely at his sides. The happiness on her face was unlike anything he’d ever seen, the joyous smile dimpling her cheeks and drawing his attention to her golden canine. He found himself suddenly transfixed. Far more familiar with being on the receiving end of her sardonic sneers and unkind smirks, he found his irritation at her sudden abscondment had been entirely forgotten.
“A kitten–?” he began, hesitant voice soft as he glanced down at the animal she clutched so possessively. It stared back up at him with round, curious blue eyes; the innocence of a tiny creature destined for a short, miserable existence, hand-plucked from the gutter by one of the most powerful women in the Expanse. Heinrix exhaled through his nose. It was so small – so unbelievably feeble.
The kitten would never know how lucky it was.
“I saw it.” Runa looked down at the fluffy animal fondly. “From all the way across the dock. The eyes, they’re reflective – I think they must’ve caught the light at the exact right time.”
“I see.”
Heinrix couldn’t even find it within himself to admonish her for her carelessness, and so, he simply stared; observing how the kitten twisted to get comfortable in Runa’s hand, settling its chin against the reassuring warmth of her bare skin, directly above where her heart was beating. Its tired eyes began to close as the Rogue Trader continued to soothe it, rubbing tiny circles into the dusty fur.
He had never considered the potential that the voidborn was even remotely capable of such warmth, such tenderness – partly because every conversation he’d ever had with her had been conducted under duress. She ignored him frequently, refusing to cooperate with many of his sanctioned requests, even despite the friendliness and kindness she displayed to the rest of her retinue and her crew. She maintained a cold, terse distance between herself and the Interrogator, making it clear to him – and everyone around them – that she deeply resented his presence on board her ship.
Normally, she would be observing him coldly, with her nostrils flared in not-so-subtle disgust; a biting comment clenched waiting between her teeth. But this time, something was different – her smile never wavered, even as she glanced up once more from where the kitten was pawing at her. There was no maliciousness in the way she considered him – and for the first time since joining her retinue, he recognised a steadily growing sense of alarm that had begun to build within the pit of his stomach.
“What are you going to do with it?” he forced out, an unfamiliar heat prickling beneath the collar of his shirt.
“It’s one of my subjects.” The Lord Captain’s smile faltered, morphing instead into a lopsided grin. “I’m bringing it back with us.”
The kitten stretched out its paws, almost as if it had understood her, shifting to nestle more closely against the comforting swell of her cleavage. He watched as it pawed fruitlessly at her golden necklace, attempting to catch the opal stone pendant within its tiny claws.
Never had he ever expected to find himself envious of a stray kitten.
As Runa allowed the kitten to burrow closer, she laughed; a light, joyous sound; and Heinrix felt something deep within him clench uncomfortably tight. He stared at the creature, which gazed back at him in turn with inquisitive eyes.
The kitten knew exactly what it was doing.
