C - the Coliseum
= a-z challenge for R U N says the D E V I L = ask or interact here to join the T A G L I S T = likes/reblogs greatly appreciated
[The Coliseum] is a one way ticket to fame and success, but it rarely left one feeling anything but battered and exhausted.
Tumblr media
A contest of champions, with elite warriors sent in from the various regions of the continent of Mezilon, the C O L I S E U M provided a (relatively) safe way for nations to show off their cultures, display their specialties, and “establish dominance”.
Run by an internationally representative committee, the Coliseum took advantage of two massive, uninhabited swaths of terrain full of monsters. The southern plot was nicknamed the badlands and became known for it’s massive if unintelligent beasts that rivalled even the biggest manors in bulk, coupled with horse-sized pack animals built for the barren plains. The northern area earned the title Host Forest - due the number of hyper-intelligent and often parasitic beasts that lived within it.
Each presented its own challenges, and teams representing one of the 27 nations and micro-nations of Mezilon were sent into the territories to ‘claim’ land and defeat monsters. The corpses were collected by the committee and sold in parts - venoms, hides, bones, and other resources were essential to many non-magical medicines - the funds of which were used to fund the Coliseum. Whichever nation ‘claimed’ the most land was deemed the winner and got a large portion of these proceeds as a prize.

Note
hello yes please tell me more about this coliseum
Ahh!! Ty for asking let me see what I can put together for you
So aside what I referenced in the post, I can tell you a bit more about the Coliseum Teams and their specialties!
Tumblr media
Each Coliseum team is made up of two-three people: a battle mage and one to two fighters. (Some have tried to make a team without a mage. It did not work. The monsters 9/10 times can use magic, and they will fuck you up if given the chance) Each team focuses on a monster specialty and is funded by the country they represent. Larger countries will have over a dozen teams, each with different specialties, while smaller ones will only be able to fund one or two.
Team specialties usually focus on one monster type and one area within either the badlands or Host forest. Their equipment and skills suit these specialties. Heavily armored warriors and mages capable of hypnosis were assigned larger kills. Trackers and elemental mages able to make large, hidden traps were given the plains and the predatory horses within them, so on and so forth.
Thought smaller nations, and nations with fewer resources, cry out that the costs of forming and maintaining teams put them at a disadvantage when it comes to claiming territory, larger, wealthier nations argue that it would be the exact same if it were an actual military battle and that they should shut their traps before actual military forces get involved.

F A N T A S I E S - run says the devil world building
“... FANTASIES; things aptly named for their unique nature of being entirely conjured realities. Taking a variety of shape and form, a Fantasy could be as small as a single bedroom or as large as a city, all the while using no actual physical space, merely taking advantage of the illusion of it to explain its own existence. A fourth dimension, if you will. Realities within reality. They took a complicated network of spells to make and a great understanding of magic, not to mention an obscene amount of luck and skill.”
- Excerpt from Chapter One of Run says the Devil
Fantasies are things of desperate magic. They are too risky to make, too likely to become a leech on the delicate supply of magic sustained by all magician to be made casually. Their existence is draining, and require constant maintenance to remain stable. Not things to be created without deep and intense consideration, Desdemona’s persecution of magic forced the hand of many a magician.
To survive, magic had to hide, and hide it did. Tucked between the layers of existence, Fantasies provided the ideal escape. Unlike pocket dimensions, Fantasies have a level of sentience that allows them to defend themselves, their inhabitants, and even their very existence. This inlaid security system gives time for any evacuation or combative measures their creator cares to pursue.
