(via Ruby Franke, Popular Parenting YouTuber, Arrested for Alleged Child Abuse)
According to Salt Lake City’s Fox 13, arresting documents describe a child climbing out of a window and running to a neighbor’s home to ask for food and water. The neighbor noticed that the child had duct tape on their wrists and ankles and called the police. Another child was found at the home the first one escaped from, which belongs to Franke’s business partner and therapist Jodi Hildebrandt.
Viewers of “8 Passengers” and investigative vloggers have flagged Franke’s concerning behavior around feeding and withholding food from her children for a long time. In one video, Franke brags about not feeding her kids breakfast until they do their chores, despite them being “literally starving.” In another, Franke explains the reasoning behind not bringing her hungry 6-year-old lunch at school, because it’s actually the kid’s responsibility to pack her own lunch. It’s all deranged.
Why do people that hate kids ever have kids? And why do they have such strong urges to share their evil with others? I guess it’s...ATTENTION and MONEY.
One can’t help but notice the unfortunate pattern of Youtubers or parenting influencers on any platform who’ve compromised their children’s wellbeing. Remember Myka Stauffer, who “rehomed” her adopted child with special needs in 2020? Or the “FamilyofFive” parents, who were convicted of child abuse in 2017 for the elaborate and cruel “pranks” they pulled on their children? The parenting choices these people made are upsetting enough, but their incessant need to capitalize off of them for content at their children’s expense is horrific.

My complaint with the Ruby Franke doc is it was an avenue for Kevin to rehab his image and pretend he had nothing to do with the abuse.

Honestly in Utah, which is ground zero for problematic religious family vloggers, this is such a huge deal. So proud of Shari for taking action and making a difference.

btw "religious psychosis" is Ruby Franke telling her children they are "satan" because they did petty kid's mischief, and not....an influencer becoming Christian and explaining how Jesus saved their life

Watching the Ruby Franke doc and this Jodi Hildebrandt woman is a long term closeted lesbian with religious psychosis leading a cult and instead of kicking her out of the house and protecting her kids, Ruby kicked out her teenage son for kissing a girl cause the crazy woman said that’s what’s making the demons possess her…

The House of my Mother
By Shari Frankie
A must read, 8.5/10
I have always loved reading memories, and this one is of a topic I have been passionate for a while. Family blogging and the exploration of those children, and the abuse behind the scenes. I think this is a topic, while has been picking up speed, will be an unavoidable conversation in the next 5 years.
Shari does her do diligent in this telling of her life so far. He struggle mentally, how the dynamic in the home affected her.
I really appreciate that she doesn’t want to make her much younger siblings the apart of this story. Her eldest brother is but is a consenting adult. To take a stand and do what her mother didn’t, protect them. This is mostly about her and her journey with her mother and Shari’s internal and external struggles.
She broke my heart over and over again in this memoir. Doing a great job of laying out the foundation of how her mother was not turned evil by family blogging, but it gave her a platform to create an echo chamber of Ruby’s parenting decisions. How the perception of being a good mother, having complete control, and the love and acceptance of strangers was more satisfying than love, well being, and happiness of her children.
I could say so much about her father, and how he is just to blame as the Ruby is. Absentee and complacency. He is not innocent or the savor, while his hand in decisions was limited, he didn’t try to be advocating, and followed Ruby’s orders.
It’s still so new and I don’t want to put in any spoilers but if you want to talk about this book with me message me please, I need to talk about this book.

shocked but not surprised to learn that ruby franke and jodi hildebrandt most likely shared a physical relationship at one point. it definitely makes everything about the '8 passengers downfall' make just a little more sense.
#the way shari describes the changes in ruby's attitude during it too. definitely something to be said about religion and sexuality there#anyways shari's book was really good. i grew up watching 8 passengers. definitely super jarring to learn about#shari franke#conneXions#8 passengers#ruby franke#gothihop speaks

I feel like the family vlogger thing is inherently exploitative, in part because when it begins the people who will be the most impacted can’t really consent to being involved because of how young they are. Still, I see a lot of people saying they found 8 passengers so sweet and wholesome and the truth is that Ruby Franke being an abuser isn’t shocking if you recognize that children are people. No good parent takes away their kid’s bed for nearly a year over a prank. Or threatens to cut up a preschooler’s favorite stuffed animal as a punishment. What that woman showed for her own children wasn’t tough love, it was contempt and it wasn’t well hidden.

We know about the whole 8 passengers thing right?
Well anyways I was watching rotten mangoes video on her and the family and all I can say is her earlier punishments sound a LOT like my dad.
Everyone has always told me he's abusive and I didnt believe them for a while and im still not sure now?? But she was talking about how ruby gave her kids push ups for something as small as leaving a sock outside and BRO ME TOO??
I had to do like 25 burpees a few days ago for leaving a door open and I have to every time I forget. And like taking away the kids door permanently and stuff. I had to put my own door back on last summer bc he took it off and refused to give it back (my door doesn't work great now but whatever)
Yeahh im not a hundred percent sure I'll ever talk to my dad when I move out (which im glad is soon)

you know i really thought that the new Ruby Franke doc where Kevin is interviewed would at least give me some insight into why he seemed to stand idly by while all of that happened. but my impression of him after watching it is 10000% worse, what a spineless LOSER.
thank God for Shari and thank God for their neighbors for giving a shit. Kevin didn't give Ruby an ounce of pushback, no matter how obvious it was that Jodi was an absolute basket case putting his kids in immediate danger. He deserves jail time.
#jodi was telling him she was possesed and he only way to fix it was him leaving the house and he was just like SURE?????#Kevin Franke#Ruby Franke#mormons#mormonism

man i hope ruby franke having to serve 30 years (up to 60) in prison changes something in the way youtube allows parents to exploit their children for views. she’s not the first family blogger to abuse her children and she certainly won’t be the last
