Promise Forever
masterlist 1k celebration
pairing: gilbert blythe x female reader
warnings: kissing, fluff
summary: after his father's death, gilbert travels the world and when he comes back home, he goes straight to your house to give you a gift - requested by anon
a/n: ugh i agree! the lack of gilbert fics makes me so sad because i love him and want to read more of him )): but thanks for requesting !
song: runaway - aurora

Dating Gilbert was amazing. He was such a lovely guy. Even your parents adored the boy.
He was so sweet, and you two had so much in common it was like you were made for one another.
Unfortunately, his father had gotten sick and later on passed away.
You, of course, were there to comfort him with open arms. When you were at his house one day, he told you that he wanted to explore the world for some time.
As much as it made you upset for him to leave, you supported him, as you always would. You assured him that you would be find, and that it would be a wonderful experience for him.
You spent the night with him, enjoying each other's presence before he left the next day. He promised to write to you about everything and you promised to write anything interesting that happens.
"Ughh," you groan dropping back onto Anne's bed.
You, Anne, Diana, and Cole were hanging out at the redheads house.
"Y/n? What's wrong?" Diana asks.
"I miss Gilbert, it feels like it's been forever," you sigh.
Cole frowns, "Well, he can't be gone for much longer, it's already been months."
Anne nods excitedly, "Exactly!"
You sit up and your mood brightens a bit, "I suppose you're right. Now shall we bake something?"
They nod and giggle as they go downstairs.
"Hi, Marilla!" you smile happily at the elder woman you've grown close with.
"Oh! Hello, dear," she smiles back.
"Hi, Ms. Cuthbert," Diana and Cole wave.
"Hello. What brings you all down here?"
"We were wondering if we can bake your famous apple pie," you clap your hands.
"Oh, how can I say no to apple pie?"
Gilbert runs a hand over his face as he sits on his bed next to Sebastian.
"What is the matter, my friend?"
Gilbert looks over to the man, "I miss my girlfriend," he sighs.
"Girlfriend?" He raises his eyebrows, "Is this the person you are always writing to? The one who send the letters that have you all red in the face."
Gilbert laughs, "Yeah, that would be her."
"Hm," Sebastian taps his knee. "You love this girl?"
Gilbert nods, "Very much so."
"So what are you doing here? Go back to her!"
"But..."
"Gilbert, you are a great boy. You love her and I see how upset you are without her. So go," Sebastian smiles at him.
"You're right," Gilbert falls back onto his bed.
You were reading your book when you heard a knock on your door. "Mom! Who's at the door?!"
She didn't hear you, apparently, because you got no response. You huff and mark your page, putting the book aside.
You get up and run your hands over your dress. You walk downstairs and to the door. You open it and you are crushed by a hug.
"Gilbert!" You squeeze him tightly in a hug. Both of your eyes water and you pull him inside, closing the door behind you. "I missed you so much."
"I missed you too, darling," he grabs your hands.
"How are you? How was traveling? How come you're back early? How-"
He cuts you off by kissing you softly. You melt into his hold and kiss him back.
You pull away and he grins. "I'm great, now. Traveling was eye opening. And I'm back early because I came home for you. I just got back and I came straight here, I haven't even gone to my own house yet."
"I love you so much," your lips curve into a bright smile.
"I love you so much more," he kisses your head. "I have something for you," he takes something out of his pocket.
You gasp as you look at the beautiful ring in his hand. "Don't worry," he laughs, "it's not an engagement ring. It's a promise ring. To remind you that no matter where I am, we are always forever."
"Oh, Gilbert, it's wonderful. Thank you," you blow out a breath.
He takes your hand and slides it onto your ring finger. He brings your hand up to his face and kisses your palm.
He looks up into your eyes with love, "One day, I'll replace that with a real ring."

COMFORT
—pairing : Gilbert Blythe x fem!reader
—summary : An unfortunate accident has you inevitably stuck with Gilbert Blythe—which your father had absolutely no hand in.
—content : sfw, fluff, mutual pining, poetic gushing of reader completely lost in her mirage of defenseless affliction for Gilbert
—word count : 2k

Dark stains ranging from light grey to smokey black smeared all over the townspeople's crestfallen faces, a residue of the fire accident that had taken place at the Gillis' family home.
The remnants of the fire took over their house walls. If it weren't for Anne Shirley-Cuthbert, the Gillis' residence would've been left with nothing but ashes. The house structure and foundation were still intact. Its durability remained a wonder, however.
It was fortunate that no one was injured from the catastrophe. The only casualty was the concrete house itself which had layers of ashen smudges creeping up its scorched walls.
When the fire had been vanquished, the people went to the patriarch and matriarch of the Gillis' to share their concerns and somehow alleviate their distress over temporarily losing their home and refuge. Small talk, yet still laced with sincerity.
Avonlea was a small town with a limited number of residents occupying it. They may be awfully spiteful sometimes, especially when it comes to those who take pleasure in gossip, but they sure are compassionate and genuine, if not every one.
Your father made his way to approach Gilbert Blythe. ❝Gilbert, good lad. Might I trouble you for a favor?❞ His tone was inquisitive, yet the vague certainty and subdued confidence in his eyes did not go unnoticed by the younger male.
❝Of course, sir. May I ask what it's about?❞
❝Could you possibly escort my Y/n home? It seems that my daughter is set on offering comfort to her dear friend.❞ The facial expression he conveyed seemed to be dejected and hopeless. As hard as he tried to play it out, Gilbert could see through your father—at some point.
He did not want to interject, though. Nor dare to confront him about it. Gilbert did not seem too keen to expose him, instead he appreciated your father's not-so-well-hidden intentions to play match-maker.
Mr. L/n had his fingers on his temples with his brows slightly furrowed, no doubt expressing helplessness. ❝It's just that I promised my wife I would be back as soon as possible after things here have settled down...❞ He then laughs slightly, thinking back on what had happened before his departure towards the site of the regretful incident. ❝We almost couldn't leave the house when M/n became too panicked and worried for our safety, you see.❞
Your father shoots him a careful and hopeful look. His spirits seemed to be more lifted and assured when Gilbert nodded with a smile. ❝I'd be happy to walk Y/n home, sir.❞
❝Thank you, Gilbert. My wife and I appreciate it. I'll be off now then, good night.❞ He did not even wait for a reply from the younger male.
Gilbert watched the older man walking towards the path leading to his home—well, in long strides with graceful haste more like.
His gaze then falls over you. You appeared to be the image of serene and composed, yet the strands of your h/c curls frame your face with an ethereal unruliness in them, given the accident that occured at the Gillis' family house. Who would still look presentable after that? The people who stayed home, obviously. Everyone who wanted to help scurried over to offer their aid as soon as the news reached them. Including you and your father.
While your father took the buckets back with him, you were only carrying a cozy shawl sprawled over your shoulders to warm you up from the biting cold of the night.
You and the girls were formed in a small group. With a look of compassion and gentleness in your expression, you shared a conversation directed to Ruby as the recipient of your good intent. ❝I would be delighted to accommodate you and your family to our humble residence, Ruby…❞ You started with a soft smile, in a genuine benign manner towards your dear classmate.
Ruby was hell-bent on refusing to stay with Anne and wanted to be with you and even considered staying with Diana. She had a conflicted facial expression etched on her face with her brows furrowed. Her mouth opens in an attempt to refute.
But then, you spoke again with the same tenderness. ❝But I think you should accept Anne's offer and spend some time to get to know her better. It could do you good, the both of you.❞ The calm temperament you reasoned with seemed to be taking effect since you've made your serenity contagious to Ruby.
Diana was quick to put in more words for Ruby to agree, knowing where you were going with this. It would be beneficial for not only Anne and Ruby, but also to your other classmates who always seem to misunderstand Anne. Maybe spending time with Anne would change the perception of the girl into a more positive note if they get to know each other better and resolve past ill sentiments that Ruby once had for Anne.
❝Y/n is completely right, Ruby. I've always had fun whenever I am with Anne. Please give her a chance as I have?❞ Diana casts a careful and cautious look over her sandy-blonde friend.
Eventually, Ruby nods her head—albeit hesitantly.
Diana wraps her arms around Anne as she bids her farewell. ❝I'll visit soon, all right?❞ Your brunette friend leaves the three of you with a wave of her hand and follows after her father who waited for his daughter by the tree.
Speaking of fathers, you don't seem to locate yours as you scanned around the area. At all.
Gilbert's tall stature does come to your line of sight, though.
You gulped lightly, as you seemed to struggle looking away from him. You forced yourself to focus your attention back to your friend. Pulling yourself together, you smile softly at her. ❝It's all right, Ruby. You're in good hands.❞ Being the good friend that you are, you tried to comfort her with the dulcet rubbing of your hand against her wool-clad arms. When her expression relaxes, only then did you talk again.
❝I shall take my leave now. I'll see you two tomorrow, yes?❞ Your eyes trained to Anne then to Ruby's.
Anne was more enthusiastic than Ruby to reply—which you can understand because Ruby had just lost her home and would be spending time with a girl she did not exactly want to associate herself with given what the others negatively perceived of Anne.
Before you knew it, someone fell into step with you. Looking up to your side, you came face to face with the one and only Gilbert Blythe. Your brows slightly shot up, surprised at the sight of him when his house was the other way around.
❝Gilbert, I—wha...❞
❝Your father requested that I accompany you.❞ He explains, appearing completely unbothered by the reason at all. If anything, he seemed relaxed. Delighted, maybe?
And then there was this slightly upturned smile playing on his lips that sent your mind in a frenzy as he looked at you with a certain intent—something that you couldn't quite decipher.
Quickly composing yourself, you replied with a steady voice. ❝I'm sorry to trouble you then, Gilbert. Father can be quite the worrywart when it comes to his only daughter. ❞
❝It's no trouble at all, Y/n. It's my pleasure to take you home. ❞ He grins so easily at you that his stare becomes quite difficult for you to maintain.
You stayed silent after that, simply looking ahead of you—trying to ignore the racing of your heart at his words. Maybe you were overthinking it. But the way he composed the structure of his words were ambiguous, you couldn't help it.
There were endless words to choose from. Like: walk you home. But, no. He just had to choose ❝take you home❞ did he? His implications were vague if he was actually referring to your house or—
Yeah, you were overthinking things.
It might not be as complex as you imagined.
It would only be a few hours until dawn arrives. So much for sleep. You were sure that your friends—who actually cared about Ruby sacrificed their sleep just to be with her earlier and lend a helping hand to her family.
You were pulled out of your thoughts when the sudden gush of cold wind passed, causing you to slightly shiver. You tightened your shawl around you. No doubt, even your fingers were icy cold.
Just then, you felt something heavy set upon your shoulders. Startled, your fingers came into contact with something warm—which you noticed were actually Gilbert's knuckles as you clutched the plaid material he draped over your shoulders.
Your eyes captured his ever mesmerizing, enigmatic, warm chestnut brown hazel eyes, softened with genuine concern. You weren't even aware you had both come to a standstill.
You cleared your throat slightly before you looked away, continuing to tread back home. With him.
When you glanced back at him, his eyes were sparkling in bliss with the corners of his mouth pulled up into a disarmingly boyish grin that had you utterly captivated.
You did not even realize you mirrored his smile with a shyer one. But you were far too late to be self-aware. Gilbert had already seen it. You could have playfully shoved him with the way you saw his smile widening teasingly. Instead, you scoff softly—in sheer amusement at the situation with a smile gracing your lips.
Finally you reached the plinth of your home. You paused, contemplating—not knowing what to do exactly.
Biting your lower lip lightly, you divert your attention from the door, turning around to face him. He has a calm and relaxed expression on, his body language was at ease as he returned your gaze with a hint of a smile playing at his lips.
❝Good night, Gilbert.❞
His mouth parted, stretching to a full-on winsome grin. ❝Definitely.❞
Your eyebrows slightly twitched at the cryptic implication of his reply. You felt yourself purse your lips together, feeling a warmth swarm up your face.
He took a few steps backward with his body still lingered towards your direction. ❝See you later.❞ When he saw you smile softly, he waves at you.
He stood there still. As if waiting for you to make your way inside the house first before he could set his mind at ease and depart.
Giving him a peace of mind, you crossed the threshold and closed the door with a soft click. His face was the last thing you saw before it completely shut.
Oh, yes. It would definitely be a good night. You thought with a smile creeping up your lips as you made your way upstairs to your boudoir.
This interaction of yours with Gilbert barely even consisted beyond that of at least fifty words. Yet he had you on a chokehold, didn't he?
Those infuriatingly expressive, enchantingly mysterious, earth-shatteringly gorgeous empyrean hazel eyes. And that dangerously mind-blowing coy curl of the lips, and knee-numbing honeyed words were all to blame. How can someone deserve such power assigned so carelessly to a single being—destined to wield it without even being self-aware of his complete leverage over you?
Good God, you may be forsaken for all eternity for as long as Gilbert Blythe lives.
Maybe this was why Ruby was utterly infatuated with him for a long time. His charm was disarming. With no hope of breaking free from his reigns he so blissfully unaware he brought upon you.
You were not immune.

A/N : this was supposed to be a blurb, but as you can see I may have gotten carried away-- Also, I am aware that the setting for this scene was during early morning, however I just felt that night time would have been more fitting for this

Jealousy
Gilbert Blythe x Fem! Reader, Ruby Gillies x Fem! Reader (platonic)
Requests: here and here
Authors note: These two requests are similar, so I decided to merge them together. This also steered a lot more to Ruby and Y/N’s friendship, so I kinda have a love hate feeling towards this fic.
Warnings: Kinda obsessed Ruby? Jealousy (as the title suggests),slight bullying, not 100% true to plot
Word count: 1,471
Y/N has always been close friends with the girls of Avonlea. All of them had practically grown up together, sharing secrets and talking about crushes. She had also always known that Ruby was in love with Gilbert Blythe. Ruby would be livid if anyone else had a crush on him, and everyone swore to not like him, no matter how handsome and kind he was. Y/N herself even promised Ruby that she would try to get the two together, only if she could be a bridesmaid. But what Ruby didn’t know, was that Y/N also liked Gilbert, but she had never mentioned it to anyone.
Years and years went by, but nothing had changed. A new girl named Anne even joined the school, and she too got the “Gilbert is off-limits” talk. Anne did seem a bit scared at first, but she also eventually got used to it.
“Did you all see Gilbert today?” Ruby exclaims as the girls take out their lunches.
“Yes, he goes to school with us and you're always talking about him!” Josie replies in frustration.
“No, I wasn’t going to speak about just him today. I was going to ask if you saw him this morning! He was talking to a girl.”
Y/N started to feel slightly nervous, but she kept listening to the conversation.
“A girl?”
“Yes, Tillie. A girl, about our age. I couldn’t see her face, but I wonder why he was talking to her.”
“I don’t think it's any of our business on why he was talking to her.” Diana retaliates.
“But what if he’s in love with her? What if she’s in love with him?” Ruby has tears in her eyes when she says this.
“Ruby, I don’t think that’s the case, if it was, we all would know. Right?”
“I hope that’s the case, Anne.I really do.”
She didn’t say anything else, none of the girls did. They all ate their lunch, everyone but Y/N tried to figure out who the mystery girl is.
The sky was orange and pink, clouds scattered everywhere. It was still fall, which made it convenient for Gilbert and Y/N to meet up. Today, she decided to go to his house and tell him about what happened. Not caring about her appearance to much, she ran to Gilbert’s house.
“Gil! Open up!”
A yawning Gilbert opened the door, and smiled.
“Hey! I didn’t expect you to come over today.”
“I didn’t expect to come over either, but something happened today that I wanted to tell you about.”
Gilbert’s smile drops, quickly letting her in. What the two didn’t know, was that a boy was watching, one that shouldn’t be trusted with secrets. That boy? Billy Andrews.
He was standing close by, and when Y/N entered the house, he went closer.
“What happened today Y/N/N?” he hears Gilbert, who sounds worried
“Today, Ruby was talking about how she saw you with a girl. She saw us, Gilbert. Thankfully she didn’t see who the ‘girl’ was but I just can’t stop thinking about if she finds out. Our friendship will be ruined forever and-“
She was quickly cut off by his arms around her, pulling her into a hug, and then giving her a small kiss on the forehead.
“It’s ok. Ruby won’t find out... And if she did, I’m sure she wouldn’t be too mad.”
“I hope that’s the case, I really do.”
Sure, Ruby hadn’t found out, but Billy certainly did.
Days went on, and nothing too interesting happened. Ruby continued to gush about Gilbert, the other girls continued to pretend that they were interested, Mr. Phillips continued to give the students a very hard time, and Y/N and Gilbert kept meeting up.
What was different, was the fact that Billy had kept spying on Y/N and Gilbert. He kept collecting small bits of information from their conversations, just waiting to use them against the two. After all, he never liked them anyway.
However, on this particular day, the class had decided to stay behind to play a game. The class sat in a circle after Mr. Phillips had left, waiting for Josie to explain.
“Whomever the bottle points to, you are permitted to kiss.” she made sure to look at everyone as she said this. “It needs to be boy-girl, boy-girl.”
“Where does that leave Cole?” Billy sneered
The class laughed, but Y/N wished she could punch him.
“Jane, go sit next to your dumb brother. Tilly, you're over there... and Anne, switch places with Charlie.”
Gilbert sat quietly in the circle, the one day he had decided to stay behind, they were playing spin the bottle. With Y/N and Ruby there. But, if Y/N and him kissed, Ruby couldn’t get mad.. right?
The first round, Diana and Moody kissed, and then Anne and Cole, and before he knew it, it was Gilbert’s turn.
Gilbert took a deep breath and slowly spun the bottle, desperately trying to avoid eye contact with the h/c girl he so very loved... However, the odds weren’t on his side today. As he slowly looked up to see who the bottle landed on, he met Y/N’s eyes. Both of them immediately froze in place, Gilbert seeming more nervous than the other.
“What’s wrong, Blythe? Are you too scared to kiss your girlfriend in front of us? You embarrassed for having to date her? C’mon, don’t be too scared, she's not as bad as carrots.”
The whole class gasped, and Ruby looked over at Y/N.
“What he’s saying.. Isn’t true, right?”
“No, of course, it’s not true Ruby, you know I’d never hurt you-”
“She's lying,” Billy replies. “I saw them, meeting up, for weeks. They so desperately tried to hide from you.”
The short blonde girl’s eyes filled with tears. Never in a million years would she think that her best friend would betray her. Without thinking twice, Ruby ran out of the room.
After a moment of hesitation, Y/N runs after her, quickly catching up to Ruby, whos standing outside of the small school.
“Ruby...”
“Shut it Y/N! I can’t believe you were seeing Gilbert behind my back. All this time, I trusted you. I trusted that you wouldn’t talk to Gilbert, but you did. You knew that I liked him, yet you still went and stabbed me! Right in the back.”
She couldn’t even deny what Ruby was saying, because it was all true, and she felt terrible. Ruby and Y/N have been best friends since day 1, and when Ruby told the girls about her crush, Y/N wasn’t sure on what to say, because she knew she like Gilbert too. Seeing her best friend standing there, tear-stained cheeks, it killed her.
“Ruby. Please, let me explain.”
Ruby didn’t reply, as she tended to do when she was upset, but slightly looked over at the other girl, which was all she needed to start.
“I’ve always liked Gilbert, ever since I saw him. And I’ve always liked you. You were my first friend, and we’re the closest two friends in the group. So, when you told us that you liked Gilbert, I didn’t know what to do. I wanted to be a good friend, so I tried convincing myself that I hated him. I tried not to think of him, or talk to him, or even look at him! But it turns out he liked me too, he had liked me for a while. So, I tried to meet up with him secretly, so I wouldn’t hurt you. I know I probably should have told you, and I know you probably don’t forgive me, which is perfectly fine, but I hope we can still be friends.” Y/N finished, almost breathless.
“Your right. I don’t know if I can forgive you this very moment. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t want to stop being your friend, but I really, really wish you told me sooner.” A small smile forms from Ruby’s lips after this statement, like she's about to say something else.
“What? what is it?”
“Is Gilbert a good kisser? I mean, I’m still mad but-”
The two burst out laughing.
“Honestly Y/N, I don’t think I could ever hate you, but it’ll take me time to stop being mad at you... I should go back inside though, everyone’s probably stopped the game.”
“Yeah.. we should.”
They head back into the back room, where everyone is staring at the door, waiting for them to come back in.
“Is your argument over already? Well, good. We’re still playing, and Gilbert still needs to kiss Y/N before we move on.”
“Well, what do you say Y/N?”
“I say we get it over with before Josie bursts into flames.”
Gilbert smiles and then puts his lips against hers, and to answer Ruby’s question, Gilbert Blythe is a good kisser.

Transcendent Love | Josie Pye
masterlist
summary: josie pye folded her crumpled piece of paper into a heart and gave it to the person she trusted the most
requested by: anon
words: 1.4K
a/n: re-uplod
Every one was different; that’s how people distinguish one another. And even if everyone was the same, the world would be boring and dull. Society loved change and even encouraged it, if it profited them in some sort of way, but not every difference was accepted. That’s why some people have to be quiet and blend in with the rest of ordinary people, causing no second glances when you look at them. Josie Pye was one of them. Even though she didn’t know it at the time, the feelings were there, ready to be tapped into and to be understood. Ready to be explored by some she would trust the most.
✰ ✰ ✰
Moody and you were on your way to school on yet another cold winter morning. Avonlea had turned into a beautiful winter wonderland. The winds were blowing fiercely from all directions and nothing but the dizzy whirling and the cold were surrounding you. Your arm was entangled with Moodys, afraid to slip and fall. You were stomping through the sea of deep, white snow when in the distance you hardly recognised the school’s tower. Trampling through the dusty parts of the snow you managed to climb up the hill with Moody’s help and were greeted by Cole who arrived at the same time. Opening the school doors you were greeted by the fire’s warmth that engulfed you in a big hug. You sat down at your assigned seat and turned around in order to engage in the ongoing conversation.
‘Well I think that we should meet at Diana’s house,’ Jane said. ‘Her house is the biggest and we’d have more room.’
‘I agree, but Diana’s mom has to give us permission.’ Anne replied.
‘What’s going on?’ you chimed in, still not knowing what everyone was talking about.
‘Haven’t you been listening? You have ears for a reason.’ Josie muttered.
‘Well I just got here haven’t I?’
‘Not my fault you can’t listen.’ Josie glared at you.
You never understand why Josie Pye disliked you. Ever since you moved to Avonlea you tried to befriend everyone in hopes of making loads of new friends, but Josie never seemed to budge. You remember talking to her on your first day of school and she ignored your presence as if you were invisible. You even tried baking a cake once; a lemon drizzle cake, one of your mother’s specialties, but she turned it down, making you walk back to your house in defeat. Josie had no reason to dislike you but she did. So you would just have to live with that.
‘I’ll ask mother and see if it is possible.’ Diana tried to clear the tension.
Everyone nodded in agreement and sat down for Mr. Phillips class.
Class ended earlier than usual today; probably one of Mr. Phillips’ weird days but you weren’t too concerned about it. Walking out of the school house you saw Jane, Ruby, Tillie, Diana and Anne taking their leave, leaving Josie behind. No matter how much Josie disliked you, you always walked back home together since you only live 15 minutes away and it was much safer to be a pair.
‘Can you hurry up? My mother's expectating me.’
You mentally rolled your eyes and tightened your grip around your basket, trying very hard to not lash out.
You walked side by side in utter silence. Nothing but the whistling wind and rustling trees were to be heard from afar.
‘Josie?’
‘What?’
‘Why do you dislike me so much?’
‘What?’ she turned to you with furrowed eyebrows.
‘Well it’s not a secret’’ you huffed, continuing your walk home. ‘You’ve had a grudge hold against me since I moved here. I am unaware of what I have done to cause you such negative thoughts and feelings but it’s getting ridiculous.’ Years of frustration rolled off your tongue effortlessly. Josie could tell you weren’t happy at all.
‘It’s not my fault you’re unlikeable,’
‘Oh, wow.’
The walk back home was silent and awkward. When you arrived at your house you didn’t say goodbye or looked back, you just headed inside, slamming the door shut.
✰ ✰ ✰
Josie arrived home later than expected. She spent the entire walk thinking and stopping every second. When she arrived through the door she was greeted by her father sitting on a brown leather couch and her mother reading the newspaper.
‘I’m back,’ she said bringing her empty lunch basket to the kitchen.
‘Mother?’ Josie peaked from the kitchen door corner. ‘May I have a moment? There’s something I need to ask you.’
Ms Pye nodded before folding the newspaper back in its original form and walked straight past Josie who closed the door behind her.
‘Mother, I was wondering if you might help me understand something.’
Her mother nodded, taking a sip of piping hot tea.
‘You see, we were talking about this in class with the girls and I was wondering how you feel if you hate someone, like someone, or love someone.’ Josie stared down at her feet in embarrassment.
‘Well, when you hate someone you wish them nothing but pain and misery. You cannot stand to see them happy. And well if you like someone you enjoy their company and do want them to be happy. And love,’ Ms Pye sat up straight. ‘Love is when you want to be the reason for their happiness.’
Josie sat in silence trying to process the information her brain was just delivered. She left the kitchen after their talk and thought hard about what she had heard and understood.
A few weeks after their talk, Josie went to the kitchen to make a homemade lemon drizzle cake.
If only she had realised sooner.
✰ ✰ ✰
When Monday came around you couldn’t be bothered to go to school, but with your mother’s yelling outside of your heavy wooden door, you managed to get up, even when you looked horrendous.
Grabbing your basket, you kissed your parents goodbye and saw that Moody was already waiting for you. The walk to school was still cold as the freezing wind whistled through Avonlea. Arriving at school you saw that the students were sitting inside the cozy room, fireplace burning hot. You walked around the school building to place your milk glass in the snow to cool it when you noticed the Take-Notice-Board. You were honestly still surprised at its occupation. Curious to see what hadn't been noticed yet, you stomped through the thick layer of snow, only to be greeted by a surprise.
‘Y/N is the nicest girl I’ve ever met and I’m afraid I scared her away for forever’
Your eyes went wide as sweat pearls started to roll down your face. You grabbed the piece of paper and tore it apart, letting the wind blow them away. You strut back to the building, through the door and stood in front of Josie who was very occupied with Tillie.
‘A word.’ harsh words left your lips.
Josie rolled her eyes, but stood up, following you outside into the chilly weather.
‘Are you insane?’ you glared at her.
‘What are you talking about?’
‘The note on the Take-Notice-Board? I know it was you.’
‘What note?’ Josie crossed her arms, trying to protect herself from what was coming.
‘Josie, I know you wrote the note about me. I recognise your handwriting and so does everyone else! Do you know what would’ve happened if it wasn’t me who found it?’
Josie stared at her feet not knowing what to say or do.
‘Are you going to tell everyone?’ her eyes glanced up from the white glittering ground.
‘Of course not.’
‘It’s just…,’ Josie started stuttering, trying to find the right words. ‘I was so mean to you for no reason until I realised I liked you. I like you more than a friend and I was so rude to you in order to protect myself.’
‘Are you the one that left that lemon drizzle cake at my doorstep?’ you furrowed your eyebrows, letting a smile slip.
‘Yeah.’
‘Josie, we should talk about this after school to risk not being caught okay?’ you hugged her, trying to give her some reassurance.
She nodded.
You walked back into the building and when time came to go to your place, you were surprised with what a world with Josie Pye had to offer.

Kisses I want to write about:
Goodbye kisses: Lingering and hard for longer times apart. Ones that curve A’s body against B’s and cause hands to splay against backs. Or short pecks, maybe not even completely on the mouth for short trips to the grocery store. Hello kisses: After long periods apart, these can include A picking up B and spinning them around. Fingers pressing into cheeks, palms cupping necks, and breathless laughs when they finally come up for air. Breathless kisses: A series of short pecks because they need the closeness but they also need air, so. Sometimes smiles come in between, or sometimes its just breath, gasping for the sole purpose of being able to kiss again. Heated kisses: Breath huffing into mouths, angrily or passionately. Hands grabbing at clothing and pulling each other closer. First kisses: Hesitant and nervous. Lips hover inches from each other for a few seconds before they just barely brush. It’s just a soft press, but it ignites their entire bodies. Pinkies link afterwards, still wanting to be close, and each looks down, smiling softly. After sex kisses: Lazy, slow presses. Limbs pressed together, chests heaving. Soft murmurs about what to do for dinner later, fingers trailing down backs, tracing lazy patterns. B rolling onto their back and A trailing their lips down their neck, kissing their shoulder, their chest, anywhere they can think of, memorizing B. Morning kisses: Barely awake kisses that usually end up on jaws or cheeks because A is too tired to land it properly. B makes a sleepy sound and rolls into A, nuzzling their face into their neck, ankles hooking together, while A drapes their arms around B and they fall back asleep for a while. Post-break up kisses: Soft and slow. Hands on each other’s arms in a way that neither can tell if the other is pushing away or pulling closer. The kiss ends with their foreheads pressed together, neither wanting it to be true that this is happening. Christmas kisses: More smile than actual kiss. A holds mistletoe above their heads while B rolls their eyes, but pulls A down by the collar of their ugly Christmas sweater for a heated kiss. A takes B by the waist and walks forward until they are around the corner, away from the prying eyes and hoots of the rest of their friends and family. Comforting kisses: B walks into find A sitting on the bed, shoulders shaking, cheeks wet. A looks up, face looking stricken for a moment. B is shocked, and quietly says A’s name. At this, A breaks, face crumpling, and only barely has time to reach both hands out for B before B is there, kneeling at A’s feet. B takes A’s hands first, kissing their knuckles and palms. Then B reaches up to hold A’s face, pressing soft kisses around their cheeks, their lips, murmuring “it’s okay” and “you’re alright” and “I’m here” in between. “I thought I lost you” kisses: The breath is knocked out of both of them with the force that they collide with. Hands grip the back of t-shirts and palms are pressed up and under shirts, holding them close, feeling the warmth of their skin. Palms are pressed to cheeks, thumbs swiping away tears until their mouths collide messily, the world seeming to disappear around them. “We can’t do this” kisses: Fists clenched, hands shoved into pockets. Brows low or brought together, jaws clenched. A feeling like a magnetic pull between them. Their foreheads press together, their lips brush, just barely, until B pulls away with a shaking exhale, forehead dropping into A’s neck. “Come to bed” kisses: A has their hands on B’s neck, murmuring the phrase softly. A’s hands slide down B’s arms to their hands, lacing their fingers together and slowly starting to pull B towards their bedroom. A continues to pepper B with kisses all the while, trailing them down their jaw and neck. “You look beautiful” kisses: Just a soft press of lips to the temple, resting them there for a moment, then smiling down and telling them as much. “I’ll be right back” kisses: A puts their hands on B’s shoulders from behind them, where they are sat on the couch. He leans down and around, while B turns his head a little, accepting the quick peck. “I missed you” kisses: Long and relentless, holding their body close, arms wrapped completely around their waist. A burying their head in B’s neck and pressing kisses there too. Angry kisses: Hard, gripping. Fists in clothes, shoving each other against walls. Fingers digging into hips. But the kisses always melt away from that. They turn into brushes of lips between shaking breaths, until they’re out of energy and are left just standing there, holding each other, fingers carding through hair. Sad kisses: Almost not a kiss at all. Just holding onto each other tightly, A’s lips pressed to B’s temple, whispering soft words, desperately trying to provide whatever comfort they can. In the dark kisses: The movie plays in the background, but A and B are hardly paying attention from the back row. They kiss soundlessly, long and soft, fingers locked. A’s arm is thrown behind B’s seat, wrist bent to curl their fingers into B’s hair. Dying kisses: A holds B in their arms, panicked, crying. Murmurs of “no, no, no.” Salt on their lips from tears. Voice cracking. Holding on tightly to their shirt, their shoulder, their hand, roughly pulling them against their body, anything to try and keep them tethered to this earth. Kissing them as they die (“no. No, stay awake—“), Kissing them once more even with the life has left their body (No. God, come back. Please, come back. Please, look at me, I’m right here”).

Quiet | G.B.
Gilbert Blythe x Fem!Reader
summary: Y/N goes to school with her friends Anne and Diana, but soon becomes quick friends with someone else even against the girls judgement.
genre: fluff
warnings: bullying, billy being a creep, shy reader
request: yes / NO
word count: 940
A/N: I feel like there is not enough Gilbert content on tumblr so, here you go! Hope you like it and enjoy!
Y/N was not nearly as excited as Anne was for school. She had been here longer than Y/N so she had gone near the middle of the school year. Y/N on the other hand had not been here tell school was well and over.
“M-maybe i could just stay here?” Anne shook her head at Y/N, “No! I swear school is quite delightful!” Even with the reassurance from Anne, Y/N was still nervous, though she was always nervous about everything. Even talking to people was a struggle.
Against her better judgement, Anne walked her along a dirt road to school. Y/N just walked in quiet whilst Anne blabbed on. Eventually they met up with Diana, she too joined them on their way.
Once the school building was insight Y/N began to panic, again. Anne saw her backing and quickly grabbed her. “No. Come on Y/N!” Diana grabbed the other arm and they dragged Y/N to the river. “You put your milk in the river for lunch.” Diana clarified. Y/N only nodded before putting the jar in.
After they were done with that they headed through the doors. Y/N went straight to the coat rake, putting her hat and jacket up. Once again her friends dragged her. This time to a group of girls.
Before she could even get a hello in the girls had started asking questions. “Who’s this?” “Why is she with you, Anne?” “Yes, why is she with you as well Diana?”
Y/N tried to talk, but was interrupted every time she did. So she opted to stay quiet while Anne and Diana answered the questions for her. Finally everyone started going to their seats before the teacher got here.
Y/N sat next to Anne while Diana was on the other side near the window. The teacher eventually showed up and looked around the classroom tell he set eyes on Y/N. “I presume you are the new student?” She only nodded a reply.
“I expect you not to fall behind your peers.” He said and again she nodded. All eyes were on her and she could tell. “Can you talk?” The teacher teased making a blush sprout upon Y/N’s face while everyone laughed. She looked down as the teacher went on with his lessons.
As the teacher dismissed for lunch, that's when the teasing began. First it was Josie, "Mr. Philip's is right. You don't talk. Can you even talk at all?" All the girls laughed making Y/N more red. She quickly headed outside away from the girl's torment.
As she was getting her milk from the stream a boy came behind. "Hello beautiful." The voice rang out and once again Y/N blushed. Not because she was flattered but, because all she wanted to do was sit alone and eat lunch in quiet.
Silently, Y/N tried to maneuver around the boy but to no avail. He just simply continued talking, "My name's Billy. Who might you be?" His voice disgusted the girl. Without saying anything she tried once more to move past him.
"Hey!" Billy grabbed her arm harshly. "It's rude to not answer. Or maybe you're just mute. Can't talk can you?" The more he talked, the closer he brought her to him. By now Y/N was slightly trembling.
"Billy!" A deep voice called out, "Let go of her!" Billy groaned before turning around. He made sure Y/N was behind him so she couldn't see the other boy.
"This is none of your concern Blythe." The Blythe boy just shook his head and stepped towards Billy tell he was right in front of his face. "I said. Let. Her. Go." His voice was deep and fueled by anger. With that Billy let go of and stomped off, but not before giving Y/N a glare.
She still does not dare look up at the young man now standing as close as Billy once was. “Hello there,” the Blythe boy said, making Y/N look up from the grass. “My name is Gilbert. Can you tell me yours?” He smiled down at her trying to comfort her which just made her more embarrassed. Even so, Y/N swallowed and talked as much as she could. “M-my name is Y-Y/N.”
Y/N swears his smile got even bigger, “That’s a lovely name.” The little confidence she had left her at the comment, so she looked back down at the grass. “You’re very quiet aren’t you?” Gilbert chuckled at you. You heard whispering and looking over to see Josie, Ruby, and their group staring at you.
Ruby looked like she was on the verge of tears which made you feel guilty for some reason. Gilbert saw what you were staring at along with your expression, “Don’t mind them.” You turn back to him on the verge of tears yourself. “Ruby says she has ‘dibs’ on me.” He scoffed before looking back at your teary eyes.
“T-that’s stupid.” He laughed with a big smile making you join along. Once he was finished he just looked at your smile. “I like your smile.” He said it and warmth spread through Y/N. She went quiet again at that. He leaned closer, “Hey, don’t go quiet on me now.”
Y/N smiled again, “I-i’ll try.” He nodded, beaming down at you. “Come join me for lunch, will you?” Again she nodded, but then decided to actually respond. “S-sure.” With that he took you away and that’s how you became best friends maybe even a bit more than friends.

New Girl
masterlist
pairing: gilbert blythe x female reader
warnings: just fluff, somewhat love triangle with billy, some jealousy, kissing
summary: you had just moved to avonlea from london, you were a beauty with fancy clothes and a lovely accent, who just so happens to have two boys take interest in you
a/n: there is such a lack of gilbert fanfics on here, he is such a sweetheart and needs more attention
song: angeleyes - abba

Walking up a hill from your new home, you follow a path you saw that helps lead you to school easily. You were dressed in a gorgeous light blue dress that somewhat stuck out around you. You had a ribbon in your hair and some jewelry with white gloves.
You truly didn't know what to wear, back at your old school this was the normal clothing.
You saw a pretty small white flower, you picked it and tucked it behind your ear. Smiling to yourself you continued down the path until you hear your name being called.
"Excuse me! Miss!" you stop walking and turn around to see a young boy, he seems to be around your age. Your eyes quickly scanned his features and you had to admit he was rather handsome.
"Hello, sir!"
"Gilbert- please, call me Gilbert," he smiles.
"Well then, it's a pleasure to meet you, Gilbert. I'm y/n," you smile at him.
"You're new here? You have a pretty accent"
"I am, and thank you. I just moved here from London," you blush.
"Wow, is it nice there? I've been wanting to travel."
"Well honestly I suppose it depends on where you are and what part you're talking about. But overall I like it," you explain looking at a squirrel you saw running in a tree.
Gilbert seemed to not be able to look away for you. He was in awe of you, he has never encountered a girl with such beauty as you.
"Perhaps you would join me in my walk to school? If that's where you're heading?" you suggest.
"I would love to"
You both arrive at school and see everyone already there. You put your small bag on a hook in the cubby area. All the students turn and look at the two of you. It quickly goes quiet and they start to whisper.
You smile at them nervously and start to fidget with your gloves.
Gilbert leans over to your ear and whispers, "don't worry about them, they just don't get a new classmate that often." You nod and introduce yourself. The girls giggle at your accent and the boys ask you to say some words they think would sound funny with it.
Gilbert also took notice of Billy Andrews who was in the back watching the scene. Gilbert also noticed the way his eyes lingered on you, longer than he liked.
He then saw Billy start walking towards you as the boys started to walk outside and girls went to their little corner. They all told you to come sit with them but before you could follow, someone stepped in front of you.
"My, my, what a pretty girl you are. I'm Billy Andrews," he says holding his hand out. You put your hand in his with the intention to shake it, but to yours and Gilbert's he gently picks it put and places a kiss on your knuckles.
Perhaps you would find this sweet, if it were Gilbert doing it. But this boy seemed rather arrogant in your opinion.
"Oh- um- thank you and good to meet you... I must be going now, the girls are waiting for me," you nod your head over to the girls watching in the corner. You see Diana and Anne smiling at you waving their hands over for you to join them.
You slip away from Billy and go sit in between them. "I love all of your dresses," you say to them. They were different from what you grew up with but that's what made you like them.
"Ours? Look at yours! You are very beautiful and that outfit is miraculous!" Anne exclaims as the other girls nod their heads.
"Why thank you," you then lean over towards her when the other girls broke off into some converstations, "your red hair is lovely, did you know? It suits you perfectly," you whisper.
"Oh you don't know how much that means to me!" Anne smiles so happily you can't help but do the same.
The day ended and Gilbert had a clenched jaw while he was thinking about Billy telling the other boys that you would be crawling to him in no time. Gilbert may or may not have accidentally stuck his foot out as Billy was passing by.
Gilbert saw you walking out of school and jogged over to you. "Hey! How was your first day?"
"It was magnificent, it was very different from what I am used to," you admit.
"Figured it would be, do you mind if I..." you look over at him as he continues, "walk you home?"
"Of course not!"
This then became a routine with the two of you, you both had grown very fond of each other and were very close.
Today, Billy was flirting with you again, and Gilbert mistook your actions for you flirting back. That day on the walk back, you got in a small argument.
"You were flirting back!"
"What? No I was not," you shook your head.
"Even if you weren't why wouldn't you?!" Gilbert didn't understand why you never went out with Billy, most of the girls had a crush on him.
"Because- because I fancy someone else!" you take a step closer to him, leaving only a few inches between you two.
Gilbert stops as his eyebrows raise, "who?"
"Oh Gilbert, you complete idiot," you sigh while shaking your head, but before he could respond you grabbed his collar and connected your lips to his. He quickly responds and puts one hand behind your head, and the other around your waste. You could have melted right there as you leaned into the boy. You reached up and ran your fingers through his hair, loving how soft it was.
Gilbert was about to faint, he had been dreaming of this happening since he met you. As you were pressed on him while your lips molded with each other, he prayed that you couldn't feel how fast his heart was beating. You slowly pull back and rest your forehead on his.
"You, Gilbert, I fancy you," you whisper to him, breathlessly.
"I like you as well, darling," he smiles connecting your lips again.

Future Mrs Blythe (G.B)
Summary: When the kids at school spot Gilbert writing a love note to someone in class, they can’t help but want to find out who.
The next week was torture for Gilbert. No one was talking to him or telling him anything. He tried throwing pebbles at Y/N’s window to get her attention. When dhe saw it was hum, she closed the blinds. There was never a good time to talk to Cole.
Today was different. Anne and Diana were taking Y/N and Ruby somewhere to mend their friendship. So Cole was left to his own devices.
“What do you mean, Y/N?” “Ruby...I...I was in love with you! And you didn’t love me back! And it feels like you’re rubbing in my face by constantly fawning over Gilbert!” “I’m so sorry.” “Look just forget what I said. I hope you and Gilbert are very happy together.” Y/N gave Ruby a small, forced smile before walking away quickly.
“What’s going on with Y/N and Ruby? Are they still mad at me?” Gilbert said, catching up to Cole. Cole rubbed the back of his neck. “Diana and Anne blame you for ruining a friendship, but Ruby and Y/N are a little preoccupied with getting their friendship back to normal.” “Do you think when this all blows over, Y/N and I can be happy.” Cole’s heart hurt for everyone involved. Gilbert’s heart beat only for Y/N. And Y/N’s heart beat for Ruby as far as he knew. And Ruby had only ever had eyes for Gilbert. He knew that whatever happened, someone was going to get hurt. “Y/N is the most loyal person I’ve ever met. And you know how Ruby feels for you. The only way is if Ruby tells her that it’s okay.” Gilbert nodded. “Thank you, Cole.” He said, walking home.
Anne and Diana decided that sticking Y/N and Ruby in a closet together was the only way to save their friendship. “I’m sorry if what I said upset you, Ruby.” Y/N tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. “I’m sorry that I hurt you.” “You didn’t mean to.” “But I still did.” Ruby couldn’t bring herself to look at Y/N. She felt too ashamed. “Do you have any feelings for Gilbert or were you so angry at me that you wanted to hurt me?” “Ruby, I loved you. I wanted you to be happy even if that meant without me me. I would never deliberately hurt you like that. Especially like that, I know how hard it is to see the person you love fall for another.”
Ruby looked into Y/N’s eyes. “I’m so sorry for what I’m about to do.” Y/N’s eyes widened. “Ruby wha-“ She was silenced by Ruby kissing her. Y/N had imagined this moment for years. But not like this. This was a pity kiss. Y/N pushed Ruby away. “I can’t do this, Ruby. Not again. I won’t let you lead me on just to hurt me again.” Hurt immediately filled the Gillis’s girl’s eyes. Y/N banged on the door. “Let me out!”
Anne could hear the heartbreak and wavering in Y/N’s voice and opened the door. “Are you okay?” “I need to go. Thank you for trying to help, but I fear there isn’t much you can do.”
Gilbert wasn’t having much luck finding Ruby. She wasn’t home. She wasn’t at Anne or Diana’s house. Only one place left for her to be. Y/N’s house. Gilbert found her walking towards Y/N’s House too. “Ruby!” He called out, catching up to her. “I need to talk to you.” “What?” She said. Gilbert noticed she sounded sad. “I like Y/N. I think I love her. And I know that she would never start anything with me as long as you don’t approve. Please, please tell her you’re okay with it.” Gilbert pleaded with her.
Ruby wanted to tell him no. That she would never approve of any relationships of Y/N’s. But Y/N’s words echoed in her head. “I loved you, I wanted you to be happy even if that meant without me.” Swallowing her true feelings, Ruby choked out. “Tell her that I approve and that I finally understand the sacrifices she made for the one she loved. Tell her I want her to be happy.” Gilbert looked confused. “I want her to be happy. And it seems like you make her happy. But if you ever hurt or mistreat her, I swear you’ll never be happy again. Y/N brings a happiness with her affection and the moment you’re without it, it feels worse than death.”
Gilbert smiled at her. “I will love her til the day I die.” “So will I.” Ruby muttered.
Y/N laid on her bed, crying. This wasn’t fair to Gilbert. Y/N had feelings for him, but a part of her would always love Ruby Gillis. It was time to put that part of her life behind her, but it felt like Ruby wouldn’t let her. A knock on her window shook her from her thoughts. It was Gilbert. “Hi.” He whispered shyly. “Hi.” She blushed. “Listen I know what you’re going to say. I talked to Ruby. And she said that she approved of us becoming a couple. She always said that she finally under the sacrifices you made for the one you loved. She wants you to be happy. Truly happy.” Y/N let the words sink in. Ruby had feelings for her. And pushed them aside so Gilbert could have a chance. “I like you, Y/N. And I know that a part of you likes me too. Or else you wouldn’t have met me kiss you.” Y/N blushed as she thought of her kiss with Gilbert.
Gilbert leaned closer to her. Deciding that Gilbert would be her future and Ruby would be her past, Y/N leaned forward and captured Gilbert’s lips with her. They pulled away when they needed air. “I like you too, Gilbert.” He smiled warmly at her. “Good or this would be would be really awkward.” Y/N giggled. “Does this mean your my girlfriend?” “Yeah. It does.” Y/N said, lacing her fingers with Gilbert’s.
Ruby stood outside the house with tears running down her face. She could see Gilbert climb through the window. And she knew that it meant Y/N had accepted his affection. She began her journey home and thought of what her life might be like if she had accepted her feelings for Y/N earlier.
The next day, Y/N came in smiling. It was brighter than the sun. That recess, all the girls sat in a circle and asked Y/N questions about her relationship with Gilbert. Gilbert kept sneaking glances over at Y/N. Finally Ruby couldn’t take it and left the circle. Gilbert caught up with her.
“I know why you left.” Fear blossomed in Ruby’s chest. What if he forbid Ruby from seeing Y/N? What if he told Y/N? “You love her.” Ruby didn’t see any disgust or anger in his eyes. Just sympathy. “Yeah I do.” “If it were anyone else, I would step away and let you be happy. But I love Y/N. I see a future with her.” Ruby nodded.
It seemed like Y/N was the future Mrs Blythe and there was nothing she could do about it.
