“For five minutes… Could you not be yourself FOR FIVE MINUTES-“
My nephews and I were joking and thinking about which voice was right for whom in Poppy Playtime, and we agreed that Alexey Kolgan's voice sounded cool for Doey.

Honestly we do not give enough credits to russians for the way they adapt the greek myths and stick to the original sources, especially compared to the american ecranisations.
You're already familiar with the 70's soviet films, but here's an adult series from the late 80's and the 90's:
The first one is called "Birth of Eros" and it's based on a variant from Simonides on his birth:
https://youtu.be/P8jmPaKVIow?si=xraZPzEG8UPQnPmM
The second one depicts the myth of Apollo and Daphne:

Next we have "The Nymph Salmacis":

Finally, there's "Polyphemus, Acis and Galatea":

This made me realize how oftenly americans have treated the Greek Myths as Fairy Tales for kids in their cartoons and movies (which is one of the reasons why they water down and change lots of things from the original ancient texts), instead of acknowledging that they could be better understood by a mature audience.
Omg yes!

The little robber-girl was about the same size as Gerda, but stronger; she had broader shoulders and a darker skin; her eyes were quite black, and she had a mournful look. She looked earnestly at Gerda, and said, —
“They shall not kill you, even if I do get angry with you; for I will do it myself.”
"The Snow Queen" (Danish: Snedronningen), fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, was first published 21 December 1844 in "New Fairy Tales. First Volume. Second Collection", 180 years ago.
I wanted to commemorate its anniversary by drawing my favorite character from the story, and one of my favorite fictional characters of all time, The Little Robber Girl, as she appears in 1957 Soviet animated adaptation by director Lev Atamanov. Design of the character belongs to artist Alexander Vinokurov.
This character, with her short appearance in the movie, had impact on me back in childhood: she’s feisty, violent, and self-serving, and has grown up among the people with no moral conduct, but she’s able to recognize love and courage, and be magnanimous and caring. And in the movie, she’s got a convincing arc from antagonist to ally in just about few minutes of screentime.

One person once observed that I seem to like “dark characters with warm hearts”, it may be accurate in that regard.
