Whispering Infinities
Speaking of mildly cursed how 'bout that new Tumblr layout, amirite?
You were a smith, working the aging scrap metal in abundance around Rusthollow; no matter the likely magical nature of all of it, you made good use of it to make nails and tacks, horseshoes and plows, chains and even the framework for lanterns. No doubt reusing it lent itself a bit to the curious phenomena haunting the town, but you and the rest of the people who lived there weren't about to turn down such a ready supply without needing to delve into a mine. You took precautions, of course, keeping a stock of brass and cold iron just in case something went really awry.

Spellbound Scones (Magikal Morsels)
By Fleur DeVillainy
A Review

*I do not own the image above.
⭐️⭐️/5
My thoughts
This 160-page novella was an ok read. It was a decent short break in-between the book before this and my current read. It didn't require any thought or for me to be super focused to follow along with the story.
My feelings on this book? Meh.
I didn't hate it. It wasn't my favorite either and I'll tell you why.
The book felt like it was trying to do too much. The story is very rushed. Now, I understand that it's a novella, it's only 160 pages. but I've read many novellas that accomplish the same ideas in a manner that flows better. It was so choppy and discombobulated.
The author listed seven different tropes (some of which I question as tropes) in the summary. I don’t mind popular tropes or fast-paced stories as a whole. What I find difficult to digest is the rapid, disjointed progression through the plot. The idea was there, the execution the tropes was just a bit too clumsy (for me). I almost DNF it, but it's such a short read; I may as well finish it.
A book is less fun for me when I can easily clock the next scene or sentence and even the ending. I appreciate that it was a quick read that didn’t require a lot of thought. It was the style of read that could have been easily enjoyable (if not for the startling problems I had with it).
The point of a book like this is that it's supposed to be a quick, spicy, smutty story. The spice was just ok. There was an effort to create character development, give them a heartfelt backstory, but it felt rushed. I couldn't connect with the characters to get into the spice. And it happened so fast in the last few pages of the book, I didn't feel satisfied by it. The (apparent) sexual tension was way more significant and present in the book.
No hate to the author. No hate to the existence of the story. The way the story was written is just not my cup of tea. This is type of story I usually enjoy--it's light, it's short, it makes for a great break in between bigger, heavier stories! The potential (for me) was there, but it missed the mark.
Also, I believe this novella is part of a series by another author. I don't know if the other related stories delve deeper into the lore and filled it out.
I believe there were a couple small editing errors or KU issues. But they weren't that distracting.
Idk if I'd recommend this one.
Book Summary Below:
Summary (copied from Am*zon)
A spicy small-town billionaire romance novella, perfect for fans Juliette Cross and Laurie Gilmore. Nettie's exhausted. Maybe working overtime to pay for her dream of becoming a nurse wasn't such a great idea. Between school, family, and baking spelled scones, she's falling apart. Until an alpha wolf billionaire walks into the bakery where she works. Conner came into Magickal Morsels to find a spelled scone to help him finally close a lucrative deal with a reluctant CEO. He's irritated. Furious, even. The wolf shifter almost doesn't notice the pretty woman behind the counter. But then he takes a bite, and suddenly, she consumes his thoughts. Did she give him a love spell? Because, if so, there are going to be big problems. She'll either ruin his deal or break his heart. The heartwarming novel Spellbound Scones transports readers to a small town where a grumpy character and a sunny personality collide, creating a delightful romantic dynamic. With its cozy setting and guaranteed happily ever after, this book is a must-read for romance lovers. (I removed the trop list and anonymous reviews). Welcome to Magickal Morsels, a bakery unlike any other. Nestled in the small town of Rusthollow, this charming establishment is run by a coven of witches with a knack for baking with a hint of mischief. But this season, their spells seem to be going awry. As the town's residents flock to the bakery for their holiday treats, chaos ensues and the witches must find a way to fix their mistakes before it's too late.
