I recently started watching ( don’t ask where., ) columbo since the pod and vods genuinely had me wanting to watch it, how much have you seen yet?/any particular favourite episode so far?

just one more thing.. is there anything you’ve gotten into lately that you’d recommend? been itching for brain worms since.. 🚬.. ghost trick………..🚬

columbo is such a good time... i've been working my way through in order with holly very, very slowly, and a couple days ago we finally watched the end of season 9, "murder in malibu". it was really bad but in a very funny way, as many of the very bad late columbo episodes are. i really liked when he just handed a guy an egg for absolutely no good reason. i've also been going back to rewatch old episodes for fun, and me and a friend have been assembling a bit of a shortlist of particularly good and/or funny episodes to show a mutual friend who knows nothing about columbo. some of my personal recs from that:

S01:E07 "Lady in Waiting" (fun character dynamics, it's a lot of fun watching the murderer unravel in this one. really good 70s fashion)

S01:E08 "Short Fuse" (really funny murder. trust me.)

S02:E06 "A Stitch in Crime" (the one with Leonard Nimoy as Your Worst Doctor)

S02:E08 "Double Shock" (the first actual whodunit one with the twins and the housekeeper who fucking hates columbo and he just cannot stop making things worse for her)

S03:E1 "Lovely but Lethal" (the cosmetics one where everyone is bitching at each other and it's really funny. there's the closest thing you can get to a lesbian subplot in 1970s primetime. vincent price is there)

S03:E2 "Any Old Port in a Storm" (the wine one. not one of the more homoerotic ones, somehow, despite the murderer one thousand percent reading as a closeted man.)

S03:E7 "Swan Song" (the Johnny Cash one. some content above what i'd usually warn for in a columbo so give it a Does the Dog Die if you feel the need.)

S03:E8 "A Friend in Deed" (COLUMBO VS THE LAPD COMMISSIONER BABY!!)

S04:E3 "By Dawn's Early Light" (my favorite of the many Military Guy Episodes i think. Patrick McGoohan is always great. this one is WILDLY homoerotic.)

S04:E4 "Troubled Waters" (mystery is basically just ok but i'm a sucker for Cruise Columbo. also a guy does do poppers which is a major part of the mystery columbo has to solve which is very funny to me)

S04:E5 "Playback" (this one's just genuinely good.)

S05:E1 "Forgotten Lady" (REALLY GOOD. WILL HURT YOU IF SAD OLD PEOPLE GET TO YOU AT ALL)

S05:E4 "A Matter of Honor" (the one where Columbo's in Mexico. lots of fun character dynamics. if you're attracted to men at all this episode is just Full of attractive men in low-cut shirts and tight-fitting pants for some reason. you can see All of ricardo montalbán.)

S05:E5 "Now You See Him..." (columbo fights a magician. the magician is a nazi. i promise you this is the actual plot)

S06:E1 "Fade in to Murder" (the one where william shatner plays Definitely Not Peter Falk. really stupid, so it's great.)

S06:E2 "Old Fashioned Murder" (the Museum One so i'm biased but also genuinely good. extremely soap opera twists in a very fun way.)

S7:E1 "Try and Catch Me" (columbo vs agatha christie, basically. ruth gordon is really good in this.)

S7:E2 "Murder Under Glass" (the mystery is a little goofy in this one but it's the one where everyone spends the episode trying to feed columbo so i have to recommend it it's so funny.)

I'm going to recommend most of season 8 but let me be clear. it's not good. but it IS good. you follow me? anyway

S8:E1 "Columbo Goes to the Guillotine" (columbo fights a magician but a different one this time. this one isn't a nazi. may or may not be bisexual though.)

S8:E2 "Murder, Smoke, and Shadows" (columbo vs steven spielberg, basically.)

S8:E3 "Sex and the Married Detective" (this one's dumb so it's great.)

Either S8:E4 or S9:E1? I'm seeing conflicting listings. anyway it's "Murder: A Self Portrait" (the story of the world's worst guy fumbling the bag with his poly relationship SO fucking bad. like a third of the episode is goofy black and white staging of an extremely on the nose dream columbo is recounting. this episodes sucks and so it's great. there's a really good ytp of this episode specifically)

s9 is all really dumb in a funny way and i haven't seen past that yet

as for other recommendations...... um... well... i've really just been watching columbo, i guess.................

One Piece (Japanese: ワンピース Hepburn: Wan Pīsu) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since July 22, 1997, and has been collected in 89 tankōbon volumes. The story follows the adventures of Monkey D. Additionally, Toei has developed thirteen animated feature films, one OVA and eleven television specials. Several companies have developed various types of merchandising such as a trading card game and numerous video games. The manga series was licensed for an English language release in North America and the United Kingdom by Viz Media and in Australia by Madman Entertainment. The anime series was licensed by 4Kids Entertainment for an English-language release in North America in 2004, before the license was dropped and subsequently acquired by Funimation in 2007.

One Piece has received praise for its storytelling, art, characterization, and humor. Several volumes of the manga have broken publishing records, including the highest initial print run of any book in Japan. The official website for Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga announced that the manga has set a Guinness World Record for “the most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author”. As of May 2018, the manga has sold over 440 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling manga series in history. It became the best-selling manga for the tenth consecutive year in 2017.

I’ve watched a lot of ‘cinemasins’ videos lately, and here’s what I’ve learnt.

1. Good screenwriting focuses on narrative. Bad screenwriting focuses on moments. Example - Scottish jacobite lady sacrificing herself for Claire [Outlander S01] vs Lexa being killed after fucking the woman she loved [The 100 S03]

2. Good screenwriting doesn’t make the characters say or do things for the benefit of the audience. Bad screenwriting does. Example - Elsa’s dad setting up the association between gloves and hiding her true self [Frozen] vs Engineer George Clooney telling Medical Officer Sandra Bullock what happens during oxygen deprivation [Gravity].

3. Good screenwriting is self-aware of both tone and context aka “what it looks like”. Bad screenwriting is not. Example - Claire’s conflict about her being “an adulteress” that manages to avoid any implicit slut-shaming [Outlander S01] vs Black Widow saying she’s a monster right after revealing that she can’t have kids [The Avengers 2].

4. Good screenwriting using narration to convey insight into character’s mental state or thoughts that can’t be easily depicted visually. Bad screenwriting uses narration for exposition. Example - “I am the one that runs from both the living and the dead” [Fury Road] vs “In the beginning...” [Thor : The Dark World].

5. Good screenwriting leads to stories that feel emergent. Bad screenwriting leads to stories that feel constructed. Example - The Queenmaker plot [ASOIAF] vs The Sansa rape plot [GOT].

6. Good screenwriting treats every character like a person, being careful about how it treats them. Bad screenwriting only does so with the protagonists [ and often only the cishet males ones]. Example - Lawyer dude’s interaction with sex workers [Outlander S01] vs Tyrion’s interaction with a sex worker [GOT S05]. 7. Good screenwriting understands that “Choices are infinite. Consequences are mandatory.” Bad screenwriting, on the other hand, writes in things whose effects aren’t explored. Example - The way the fallout from Max’s rape is written [Black Sails S01] vs the way Haymitch’s alcoholism is handled [The Hunger Games Trilogy]. 8. Good screenwriting applies rule #7 to worldbuilding. Bad screenwriting does not. Example - <to be added> 9. Good screenwriters seek to evolve their vision. Bad screenwriters do not. Example - Bryan Konietzko & Michael Dante DiMartino [LOK]  vs David Benioff & D. B. Weiss [GOT].

10. Good screenwriting follows these rules fractally, even in the smallest scenes. Bad screenwriting does not. Example - Client looks for sex worker’s permission before motorboating her [background action, 0.3 seconds, Black Sails S02] vs Mon’El doesn’t respect Cara’s wishes to keep their relationship on the down low [scene, 15 seconds, Supergirl S02]. Ps. Do not cut if you don’t have to. Whenever possible, show action and reaction in the same shot. Whenever possible, start each new scene with an establishing shot. Confusing the audience just to make them think like lots of cool shit is going down which they can only see a few shaky disconnected glimpses of is a dick move.

Osiris: New Dawn is an open world Sci-fi Survival set in the year 2078, during which humans are starting to venture into interstellar travel. The player is sent to the Gliese 581 planetary system by the United Nations of Earth (U.N.E.) as a member of the second colonization team with the task of studying the planets for habitability. During the journey, the spacecraft malfunctions because of the light speed travel and consequently crashes onto a deserted planet, which becomes the player's starting destination. In order to survive, the player must build a base while trying to overcome the harsh, unpredictable conditions. The game features both single-player and multiplayer gameplay in an open world environment. The game's single-player campaign can be played offline as well. To aid navigation in the early parts of the game, players start with jet boots, along with other items.
