INTERVIEW_16
Tumblr media
LIN FAN
Countries & Regions / Taiwan
1. Job Description
I work remotely as an engineer for a partner company of Salesforce in Tokyo. We undertake system issues for domestic and foreign companies and consult with companies to come up with the best solution with our team members.  We also support them by having a weekly meeting, suggesting better ideas, buidling clear visions, new systems when necessary. Even after the contract period, we are sometimes asked for maintenance supports such as system stability and system recovery. Also, we provide translation service. My job may seem to repeat the same service through the year but in reality, as we care varieties of clients for diverse issues and as IT improves every day, I am very encouraged to learn something new.
2. Why do you work in Shizuoka ?
When I was a university student in Shizuoka, I had an opportunity to join a training program conducted by a company, and it was truly destined to bring Shizuoka and me together. At that time, my assignment was to deal with inbound travelers and thanks to the two-month training program, I learned how the society in Japan works. In addition to work, after-work dinners or drinks were unforgettable.
On my days off, I enjoyed exploring downtown Shizuoka and its suburbs, which made me want to live and work in Shizuoka after graduation.
3. Charms of Shizuoka
Shizuoka is half urban and half rural, and I often think it has the best of both worlds. In addition, since Shizuoka is located in central Japan, it is very convenient to visit anywhere in Japan. The climate is blessedly mild, neither too hot in summer nor too cold in winter. People of Shizuoka are very relaxed and easy to live with, just like the characters in Chibimaruko-chan, Japanese popular anime for kids. Moreover, you can see the symbol of Japan, Mt. Fuji, every day. I can say that living in Shizuoka is like having a ticket to VIP seats all year round to see Mt. Fuji!
Also, rent is much cheaper than Tokyo, which improves my quality of life. I changed a job once and actually considered moving to Tokyo, but I ended up settling  in Shizuoka, and now I can say with certainty that living in Shizuoka is a better way of life!
Recently, due to COVID-19, here has been a trend to move from urban areas to rural areas. I am proud of my decision to stay in Shizuoka where being selected as the best prefecture people would like to move to in Japan for three consecutive years from 2020 to 2022.
4. Messages
Shizuoka has mountains and the ocean.  When you need to refresh yourself, you can easily plan a one -day trip to enjoy the great nature, fresh foods, and talking to local people. When you want to exercise, you can enjoy hiking, cycling, marine sports, and many other activities. Personally, I recommend that you climb Mt. Fuji at least once in your lifetime to feel the great sprit of nature.  Actually, I have climbed it by myself, and though it was a difficult walk to the top, I feel that it gave me a new outlook for my life.
Furthermore, Shizuoka has lots of hidden gems that you can only discover if you live in Shizuoka, such as the port town of Mochimune and  the deep mountains of Oku-shizu area. Unlike Tokyo, you might not see foreign people in Shizuoka, but that gives you more opportunities to interact with the locals and enjoy Japanese life more!!  I really hope you will live in Shizuoka as your second hometown!

Accelerate and Innovate Salesforce with Continuous Test Automation
Salesforce environments move at a different pace. Your systems are constantly bombarded with change in the form of release cycles, in-sprint updates, refreshes, critical integration and ongoing project innovation. In the midst of all this change, there is no denying the fact that Continuous testing is essential to achieve these dynamic needs.
In this blog, we’ll discuss major hurdles in implementing continuous testing for Salesforce. We’ll also discuss how to overcome these challenges to achieve continuous innovation.
Why you need to implement Continuous Testing for Salesforce?
Introduce and expand test automation – Continuous testing is all about testing early, often, and comprehensively to get quick feedback. So, enterprises that want to implement continuous testing for Salesforce need to introduce test automation to achieve this. To get faster feedback on whether latest changes have broken any critical business processes, automation is necessary. However, getting started with test automation in case of Salesforce is quite difficult because of complex architecture (dynamic elements, frames).
Release Readiness – One of the major goal of “Continuous Testing” is to determine whether or not release candidate is ready for production. Salesforce delivers hundreds of innovative features in the form of seasonal releases i.e. Spring, Summer, and Winter. IT managers cannot make go/no-go release decision a guessing game because a bad release can cost you revenue and reputation. Prior to deployment in the production, IT managers need to understand the impact of new features on existing business processes and critical configurations.
End-to-End Integrations – Salesforce can be integrated seamlessly with numerous third-party applications. In a scenario when various packaged apps work behind the scenes, it is recommended to test all the micro-services, APIs, and other integrated platforms during different cadences to ensure that user experience and business processes have not been impacted with new functionality.
Focus on the right continuous test automation approach to address these challenges
You cannot expect success by allowing manual testers to download some open-source test automation tool to automate processes across Salesforce. To succeed, your continuous testing approach should be built around change. You need to determine how changes have impacted your existing business processes and configurations. In fact, you need to bring in a continuous testing process that supports quality, speed, and efficiency. And, this can only be achieved with right test automation tool.
Our proposed solution: OpKey
We propose “OpKey”, a Continuous test automation platform for Salesforce. OpKey gives real-time visibility into changes to QA teams that comes with a release. OpKey’s AI-powered change impact assessment engine performs a comparative analysis of the old and updated instance to highlight changes across the configurations, transactions and custom screens while predictive intelligence recommends test cases based on the impacted areas. By highlighting risks, OpKey allows testing teams to refactor test cases while enabling IT managers to plan release better. OpKey’s prebuilt test libraries for Sales, Marketing, Service Cloud, & CPQ help QA teams to cut down initial set up time by 70% while AI-powered self-healing capabilities make test maintenance effortless.
OpKey is the only test automation platform that offer support for support for web, mobile, APIs, Desktop, Citrix, Mainframes and other legacy applications. OpKey allows SFDC test automation along with enabling end-to-end test automation across multiple ERPs/ packaged apps. Integrated change analysis, risk assessment and automation capabilities of OpKey will help enterprises to seamlessly implement continuous test automation for their Salesforce instance.
Contact us today and ensures your business processes run smoothly, regardless of change with OpKey’s Continuous Salesforce test automation platform.

Art and Science of Salesforce Sandbox Refresh Process
If you are a Salesforce developer or an admin, you know that Sandboxes are integral part of your organization’s development and deployment strategy. Sandboxes let you develop and test your applications in a controlled environment that avoids any impact to your production environment.
Especially, if you are dealing with complex development projects, having a well thought out sandbox refresh strategy becomes critical to the velocity and manageability of the implementation. It becomes all the more important when the org is complex and you have lot of custom code along with restriction around PII data compliance or test salesforce releases.
Which brings us to the question, is Sandbox refresh an art or science?  While checklists and SOP’s (aka the Science) are important to ensure that you are not wrong footed. However, expertise and judgement (aka the Art) is equally important in more complex scenarios.
In this blog, we take you through three critical considerations, which sum up the art and science of effective sandbox refresh:
Understand the type of Sandboxes you are using and their refresh limits
Abide by the list of Dos and Don’ts – and a lot of them!
Don’t forget those post refresh activities
Let us look at them one by one:
Different types of Sandboxes and their refresh limits
*Sandbox templates
Sandbox templates allow you to pick specific objects and data to copy to your Full or Partial Copy sandbox to control the size and content of each sandbox. Sandbox templates are only available for use with Full or Partial Copy sandboxes.
Selection of type of Sandbox is dependent on purpose, volume of data required and periodic refresh requirement. Based on these factors, developer and developer pro sandbox is mostly used for development, unit testing and training, partial sandbox is used for system and integration testing, Full sandboxes for data load testing, integration testing, user acceptance testing, performance and load testing, and staging purposes.
2. Do’s and Don’ts of Sandboxes Refresh
Do not plan sandbox refresh during Salesforce spring, summer and winter release dates and times.
Data masking for data copied from production to sandbox for critical and sensitive data elements (utilize relevant AppExchange product or having customized scripts/apex class for this purpose)
Recommendation to plan for full copy sandboxes refresh completion for a minimum of 48 hours as the timing of the refresh is dependent on the salesforce Queue and also amount of data.
Building Sandbox templates depending on business requirements for refreshes in case of having multiple lines of business using one salesforce org.
Having proper communication plan including proposed schedule/timeline and impacted audience including integration teams, development teams who might be doing any testing on your full copy or other sandboxes
For having time controlled or early full copy sandboxes refreshes, contact Salesforce.com premier support in advance to identify place in refresh queue in order to get a better perspective on expected timing/completion of the data copy.
Have a refresh calendar setup to have right sandbox refresh strategy
Keep a full metadata backup of the instance being refreshed in case you have not setup DevOps / continuous integration
Disable Salesforce to Salesforce connection if enabled
Do not do sandbox refreshes during regular development times. This would increase the effort of the development team.
3. Do not forget the Post Refresh activities
Create read only users for consultants/developers in production which you have to create every time after the sandbox refresh. This way after you refresh sandbox, you can easily update them in sandboxes to give them access. In absence of this, you will have to recreate these users every time which is a waste of time.As a Salesforce admin, using these tips for effective sandbox can save you (and your users) a lot of time and avoid potential heartburn. So, here’s to the yin and yang of effective Sandbox refresh strategy!

TrailheaDX India, the first ever international Salesforce developer conference, was an amazing two days of learning, connecting, having fun, and giving back. This event hosted over 100 technical sessions, expert-led workshops, networking opportunities and much more. Here are a few highlights from this epic learning event. News from the Opening Keynote Lightning Base Components: Now Open Source Lightning Base Components are the component library built on top of Lightning Web Components. Now, you can jump start your UI development with over 50 open source Lightning Base Components. If you’re already building with Lightning Web Components, you can extend existing components, contribute your code and learn best practices by exploring the source code. Build Functions and Microservices with Salesforce Evergreen Salesforce Evergreen, a new addition to the Customer 360 Platform, enables you to build engaging contextual digital experiences using your Customer 360 data. Evergreen brings elastic compute to your Salesforce workloads through functions that can be invoked directly from Apex, or using Salesforce platform events. Evergreen lets development teams build apps and business logic using functions and services with Apex and other languages like Node.js and Java, and leveraging their broad, open source package ecosystems. Learn more about Salesforce Evergreen in this introductory blog post. Cloud Information Model (CIM) With the new Cloud Information Model, you can integrate cloud apps using a common, shared model amongst properties. This removes the need to reinvent the wheel for how to structure your data, giving you more time to focus on delivering functionality. Developed under the Linux Foundation, anyone can join and contribute to world’s first open enterprise standard for building integrations faster and easier. Read more about the Cloud Information Model here. Salesforce Blockchain Salesforce Blockchain, introduced at TrailheaDX in San Francisco earlier this year, is now in Developer Preview. Blockchain allows you to create networks of partners who can use a distributed data model to record digital transactions in a trusted, immutable way and with Salesforce Blockchain, you can do this through clicks so you can focus on building an app. You can build blockchain apps with Lightning Web Components, Flow, Einstein, Bots and more. Data Mask Testing your app with all data in a sandbox is great, but there is data you may not want to expose to everybody testing your application in the sandbox. That’s why we now have Salesforce Data Mask, a new feature that allows you to anonymize sensitive data. This helps you meet compliance requirements while building your app. Plus, Data Masks anonymizes data automatically on Sandbox Creation and Refresh, or manually in an existing sandbox. Real-Time Event Monitoring With new Real-Time Event Monitoring features, you can create targeted transaction security policies to avoid data loss. You can configure these policies declaratively using Condition Builder, or programmatically using Apex, and you can define actions that you want to take place when these conditions happen. For example, you can block the user, notify admins, or even require two factor authentication. Read more about Real-Time Event monitoring in the Winter ’20 release notes. Now that you have an overview of all the Opening Keynote highlights, it’s time to get hands-on with these new features. Take our trailmixes based on the Keynote chapters: Build, Connect, and Manage.
