Week 1

To begin this project I researched into why and when fashion weeks began to understand how it began to move fashion weeks forward. Many fashion houses put on fashion shows, the first being in New York in 1903. New York Fashion Week in 1943 was the first fashion week to give buyers opportunities to alternatives to fresh designers. From this I decided the three brands I would focus on during this project. Heliot Emil, Bianca Saunders and Aitor Throup, focusing on Bianca Saunders. I carried out some initial research into all three brands to understand the approach that each brand would take to move forward during the current time. During our brainstorm with Adam our group discussed ideas that we could take forward. This was helpful to see what type of approach we should take towards the project. From this brainstorm I thought about a few ideas for each brand and  how they could find alternatives to Fashion Week. For Bianca Saunders I was thinking about how she loves and is hugely influenced by music. I thought an interesting way for the dilemma ‘All Fashion Weeks have been cancelled. How does the brand continue to function?’  for her being an emerging designer she could collaborate with up and coming musicians. I’m still unsure on how this would work but some very first ideas would be  by them possibly wearing her clothes or her introducing each artist as if it was gig style Instagram live. I hope to delve and push this idea further. For Heliot Emil I thought an interesting route to take forward could be to collaborate with an outdoors brand such as Haglöfs or Jottnar to crate a collection of both clothing and equipment. I think this would be interesting to move Heliot Emil forward as there brand focuses on functionality. Another idea I had was to collaborate with SapceX, as they are both forward thinking and experimental brands. SpaceX is set to test launch their first manned rocket on the 27th May which would coincide with Heliot Emils latest collection. My final ideas were with Aitor Throup, as his sketches are like a character in themselves and almost have their own personality I though it could be interesting to collaborate with a game, such as Cyber Punk to have a Aitor Throup style character in the game. A new Cyber Punk game is being released in September so is being largely spoken about in the gaming industry. A collaboration during this time would be good publicity for both brands. Aitor Throup’s @thedailysketchbookarchives is having a silent action with Hypebeast of one of his live sketches. Throup could continue to make this platform more interactive with his followers. Finally, from Aitor Throup’s past work with Kasabian, this could be an opportunity for them to collaborate again to promote both their brands during this trying time. Again through sketching / artwork, Instagram lives or a virtual reality music video. Next week I will finalise my ideas and write up my research into brand reports.
