As originally written, the Romulan Commander from "The Enterprise Incident" was male, and it was Sarek who had to distract him for the mission.
So it's logical that the scene would have played like this:

The Surak we see in The Savage Curtain is a manifestation of Spock's idea of Surak, so if the first thing he does is reprimand Spock for showing emotion that's because that is exactly what Spock would expect. That the greatest vulcan who ever lived, father of all we now hold true and his personal role model would be disappointed in him

Spitballing with the fellas on discord and we've come up with a Star Trek character we want to see: A 200-year-old top Vulcan diplomat attending a function and laughing boisterously and slapping backs with everyone and then just relaxing into resting bitch face the moment nobody is watching him. He takes his job deadly seriously and studied parties extensively in the diplomatic academy. Every year he's brushing up on new developments in party theory. He knows every party nuance you could possibly think of, for the sake of intergalactic relations. Peace in the galaxy depends on it. It's weird but you gotta meet people where they're at, he thinks.

Star Trek: The Original Series originally aired from 1966-1969, and they've been showing re-runs on various channels ever since.
In a flashback to "19-sixty-something" in the episode "A Tale of Two Stans", Stanley & Stanford Pines are seen to be somewhere in the 8-12 year old age bracket. Ford is shown to be especially obsessed with sci-fi.
Thus, it is highly likely that Ford watched Star Trek: The Original Series at a young-ish age, probably just before and around middle school. My question to you is this:
clarifications
Not what character he identified himself with or had an obsession with - we all know that one's Spock. I'm talking about what character he was attracted to. Who sparked this man's romantic and/or sexual awakening?
If you headcanon him as aroace or otherwise not the type to get crushes, who do you think he thought was the hottest/most attractive aesthetically?
we're not talking about whether he was aware of it or not. 30 year old Ford looking back at his younger self and going 'aw shit i was super into The Gorn i just didn't realize it at the time' still counts.
I didn't want to put "The Enterprise" or "The Ship's Computer" as its own option bc the joke would probably skew the polls. if that's your genuine opinion (valid) pick "Someone else on the Enterprise"
I know Sarek is an ambassador to the Federation from Vulcan - he's not technically in the Federation. I wanted to put the image in your head of teenage Ford watching one of the Sarek episodes and understanding the term "DILF" years before it was created.

Finally making more progress on the pile of ST books I own but have yet to read. Here’s some good stuff from The Vulcan Academy Murders by Jean Lorrah.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: The cover of the book The Vulcan Academy Murders. The background has lots of dark purple tones. In the foreground, Spock stands with a phaser pointed at a Vulcan creature with green skin, a cat-like face, a fin down its back, sharp claws, and a long tail. The creature is hissing down at Spock from a rock. End ID]
First of all, what is going on with this cover? Nothing like this happens in the book.
Tumblr media
[Text ID: “Kirk recalled that all male Vulcans were married—had to be—and glanced at Spock. His First Officer, however, was very busy inspecting the almost un-touched wine in his glass.” End ID]
Interesting interesting. 👀
Tumblr media
[Text ID: “Kirk had been given Spock’s room (underlined red by me) and McCoy the guest room in Sarek’s house—a house far from anything Kirk would ever have imagined as the home Spock had grown up in. He had envisioned either a sterile, unadorned ‘environment,’ or a castlelike ancestral residence. Instead, the house on the outskirts of ShiKahr was a simple single-family dwelling.” End ID]
This book is way too casual about Kirk sleeping in Spock’s childhood bedroom. Also, there’s no mention of where Spock is sleeping while they’re there???
Tumblr media
[Text ID: “He remembered forcing Spock to control his emotions when he was five, and his schoolfellows taunted him for being ‘different.’ Under his father’s tutelage, Spock had refused to cry when the others shut him out of their games, calling him ‘Earther’ and ‘half-breed.’ Amanda had hidden her tears from their son, and Sarek had hidden his anger. Or had he? Perhaps I directed it at my son instead, he realized. He had intended to prepare Spock for whatever lack of acceptance he would face in life. And the message Spock received was that his own father did not accept him as he was, had to mold him into something he deemed acceptable.” End ID]
We love reflecting on our past mistakes. 👏🏼 We love character growth. 👏🏼
Tumblr media
[Text ID: “’A computer cannot lie,’ said Spock. ‘Nevertheless, this one is giving false information.’ ‘Why don’t you try playing chess with it?’ came a voice from the doorway. Sarek turned to find Leonard McCoy, bouncing on his toes and grinning.” End ID]
I love them. I can picture this so perfectly.
Tumblr media
[Text ID: “’What dost thou know of Surak?’ she asked finally—but her voice spoke more of perplexity than challenge. ‘What everyone knows: he was the founder of Vulcan philosophy. I know he is a personal hero to my friend Spock, the way Abraham Lincoln, from human history, is to me.’” End ID]
Kirk will bring up Abe Lincoln whenever he has a chance. That’s canon now.
Tumblr media
[Text ID: “’You are not only anything, Spock. You are more, not less, because of your dual heritage. It is fruitless to wish now that I had made that clearer to you when you were a child.’ ‘You wanted me to be Vulcan.’ ‘That is true,’ Sarek agreed. ‘And you are Vulcan, representative of IDIC in its fullest sense.’ Spock studied his father. ‘You never put it to me that way. The last time you and I spoke as father and son, before I went to Starfleet Academy, you reminded me of how important it was that I think of myself as Vulcan. Do you remember your words, father?’ Sarek remembered. ‘I am Vulcan by birth. Your mother is Vulcan by choice. You are Vulcan by both birth and choice.’ ‘And then I disappointed you by making a different choice.’ Sarek searched his memory, trying to recover the logical reason for what now seemed completely irrational. Finally, he said simply, ‘I was wrong.’” End ID]
Yes! Let’s talk about our feelings! Let’s resolve those daddy issues!
Tumblr media
[Text ID: “He went back to his room—Spock’s room, really. Kirk had brought with him a sturdy suit and boots, for Spock had suggested they might go camping in the mountains after the summer heat abated. (Last sentence underlined in red by me.) He put on the boots and the trousers to the suit, but decided the heavy shirt would be far too hot—" End ID]
Spock wanted to take them camping. 🥹
Tumblr media
[Text ID: “‘He will recover, though?’ asked Spock. ‘Yeah—you can see him later, Spock,’ said the doctor. ‘He’s gonna be in considerable pain—you’re probably the only person he’ll be able to stand. Your son would’ve made a good doctor,’ he added to Sarek. ‘I don’t know how he does it, but he’s really good with people in pain.’ Spock’s eyebrows shot up at the unexpected compliment from the man Sarek usually saw him trade barbs with. Then Leonard left them to go back to his patient, and Spock turned to Sarek. ‘May I ask you something, Father?’ ‘What is it, Spock?’ ‘When Mother became conscious, you called her…?’ ‘Beloved.’” End ID]
Spock being very concerned about Kirk’s injuries. Bones saying Spock is the only person Kirk would tolerate while in pain. Spock asking his father about expressing love for an outworlder. It’s a lot.

Janeway visits Tuvok on Vulcan and they're waiting around for whatever reason when from behind them Janeway suddenly hears what sounds like a series of consonants interspersed with clicks and a shriek which somehow all together sound like the first steps of some undiscovered bird, stretching its wings for the first or perhaps final time. Tuvok looks up and turns toward the noise. "Yes?" This is his last name.

Saavik headcanons -
As promised, here they are! It’s not that much, but those just live rent free in my head.
When the rescue vessel first arrived at Vulcan, Amanda came to the spaceport to greet Sarek and Spock. This was Saavik’s first encounter with her, and she instinctively clocked her as a trustworthy figure. In the early days of her Vulcan education, she would pull up the ta’al toward Amanda with a smile, rather than a neutral expression, having not yet learned emotional control. She still tends to show her emotions more around Amanda (who is a very happy grandma) (This is the image i have basically: 🖖🙂)
Considering the conditions of starvation in her childhood on Hellguard, Saavik encountered a plethora of health difficulties: Namely, her immune system was not built for bacteria native to Vulcan, and she fell ill in the first few weeks she spent there with Spock before they moved to Dantria IV. Her bone density is also significantly lesser than the average vulcan, a result of the lack of certain nutrients and proteins in her alimentation as a very young child. Her genetics still makes her stronger and more resistant than a human, but much less than a full-blooded, healthy Vulcan. She is also among the shorter percentiles in terms of heights.
On the plus side, she is not a picky eater at all. Her curiosity applies also in the matters of gastronomy and she enjoys discovering new foods and manners of preparing them. She insisted that Spock teach her how to program replicators (Spock asked Jim’s help on that, because he knows more about replicator code than even Spock does)
She more than once spooked Spock in the middle of the night, allowing him to discover that Vulcan’s secondary eyelids acted much like an earth cat’s tapetum lucidum, reflecting the light and glowing. He had never noticed it in his peers, having not spent much time with them in the night, and had to hold back an emotional reaction when she simply wanted his help to grab a glass of water at 2 am.
Saavik also took a long time before she trusted people enough to fall asleep near them. She would always curl herself up in the corner of her bedroom, and to help her Spock placed her bed farthest from the door, while also making sure in case of danger she could escape by the window. The first time she fell asleep on the living room floor from exhaustion after reading one too many datatape was extremely endearing for Spock. He got the chance to carry her to her bed.
Spock had to learn to take care of her curls, and would facetime with Uhura in the late hours of Dantria IV’ night to get advice. Saavik would sit on the living room floor and he’d carefully untangle her curls with a wide toothed comb nearly every night until she began doing it herself.
Once she joined Vulcan school after the year on Dantria IV with Spock, she often got teased for the green color of her eyes, her peers likening it to blood and trying to elicit an emotional response out of her. Sometimes it worked and she’d fight them off, sometimes she threatened to get Ambassador Sarek’s rightful power (I dont wanna say anger) on their parent’s career. (might as well use her adopted nepotism against bullies)
During her first year at the Academy, Saavik let the others, mostly human students, assume that she was just fully Vulcan. After the events of The Pandora Principle, she began cryptically correcting that she was Half-Vulcan, like her father, bringing about school gossip about her parentage. Once it became widely known she was Spock’s child, the gossip shifted on whether or not professor Spock had her with a random human woman or if he and professor Kirk found a way themselves. (The gossip about the professors at the academy must be fire)
When she got accepted in the Academy baseball league, she began reading up on all the aspects of the sport, to a point where she could quote stats from players who played back in the 20th century.
In Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, her hair is actually straightened, in an effort of seeming more Vulcan to the human crew during her first starship assignment. After Spock’s loss, she cannot bring herself to continue straightening them, hence her curls return in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. I also think Uhura helped her with the do she had during the funeral ceremony. (The volume sorta reminds me of Uhura’s TOS hair.)
That’s all for now!

Funny mental image: Sarek’s first time experiencing a snowy Earth winter and wondering why in the galaxy he left Vulcan for this 😂
Imagining “This day’s inclement weather will impede our planned excursion, my wife” emanating from deep within about 10 layers of thermal clothing masquerading as the Vulcan Ambassador to Earth while Amanda has maybe got a coat and scarf on and is cackling in delight.

"Spock's World" review
Tumblr media
Novel from 1988, by Diane Duane. In a similar vein as her previous work, "The Romulan Way", is a combination of novel and historical account, this time about Vulcans instead of Romulans.
The historical chapters present different moments in the life of the planet and its peoples, from the very creation of the rock known as Vulcan out of primordial stardust, to the initial career of Sarek as ambassador and his encounter with Amanda. Many of these chapters have a chilling, somber ending, always presided by the ever-watchful eye of T'Khut (Vulcan's moon, which isn't really a moon). My favorites were the ones dealing with primitive Vulcan, at a time when speech wasn't even invented and everything had a touch of the mythical, and the ruthless story of a family of Vulcan asteroid miners, destroyed by their greed for diamonds (this was before Surak, obviously). Some details about Vulcans seemed a bit weird to me, like their wide array of customized psychic abilities, or the technological advancement in pre-Reformation times. I had this image of pre-Reform Vulcan as some sort of "warrior and monk" society. Though this is probably a silly complaint, since not much is known about Surak's times... Yet I still have difficulty picturing Surak as a corporation accountant, I don't know... I liked more the version of Romulan history from the other book, though these episodes were also beautiful in their own way.
As for the main plot (if you can call it "main"; it doesn't take more pages than the history part), is set in post-TMP times. Vulcan threatens to leave the Federation, in a climate of political discontentment, so Kirk, Spock and McCoy are invited to join the public debate, to defend the pro-Federation position. It's a simple but compelling story, more focused on discussing the different worldviews than in actual plot. Though there's also a conspiracy for the protagonists to uncover, but I won't spoil it here. Despite the cover and the title, Spock doesn't have such a big role. McCoy is actually the one who's doing most of the investigations, having become kind of an expert in Vulcan (including learning the language and speaking it with a Southern accent). The plot also shakes a bit the usual status-quo, by turning a well-known character from the series into villain, and killing another. On the other hand, and as minor nitpicking, some things about Duane's Enterprise still seem strange to me. The wild parties aboard, and the opinion network of the ship (where everyone can freely publish their opinions about anything, including invectives against Vulcans) make the Enterprise seem more like college than a ship at times.
Spirk Meter: 1/10*. I can only think about the encounter between Spock and a vengeful T'Pring, who threatens him with taking away his career and his Captain, the same way that Spock made her lose Stonn (it's a long story). It would seem that, in her mind, Kirk means for Spock the same that Stonn meant for her... Though on the other hand, she could mean it just in a professional way.
For his part, McCoy has a tendency to whisper into Spock's ear, from time to time.
*A 10 in this scale is the most obvious spirk moments in TOS. Think of the back massage, "You make me believe in miracles", or "Amok Time" for example.

Things I screenshoted in Star Trek III - The Search From Spock
Tumblr media
This hilarious pink chair Saavik sits on. I think it's very cute, clamshell like - but kinda a funny starship/station (I don't actually know what are they on in this scene) decor choice, isn't it? It's giving boudoir.
Tumblr media
Oddly enough, this clamshell kind of design is similar to Kirk's belt here. Again, it's not really space related, but I actually really like it. I think Kirk's outfit here is amazing. I want this belt!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This scene. This scene could be an opening to a gay porn. I think it's because of the mustache on the guy (and Sulu's whole swagger, of course). Don't tell me he doesn't look like he could in a Tom of Finland graphic.
Tumblr media
Sarek's fuck ass breastplate. Ngl, this old man is slaying hard at his son's rebirthfuneral.
Tumblr media
What religion do I have to sign up for in order to have sexy women dressed in gauze carrying my corpse? It's time sensitive.
Tumblr media
Lastly - outfits!!!! I think this movie is one of best ones styling wise. (Although it's missing the disco Bones factor). I don't have good images of it to put here, but I love the scenes where the gang is breaking out Bones out of prison/psych ward and they all have semi matching brown leather jackets on (except Uhura). Sulu and Chekov is sporting theirs here.
