| Semester at Sea Chronicles | MV World Odyssey | December 23, 2017 | Disembarkation Day |           Did you forget that my semester abroad was a full semester of college education? When we weren’t out exploring the world, we were on the ship taking a full semester’s course load, learning from the best of the best. I was fortunate enough to have three professors who are extremely knowledgeable and passionate about tourism, geography, and teaching students how to evaluate the world in new ways. The student - professor relationships on the ship were unlike any I have experienced before. I lived directly across the hall from all of my professors. Not kidding. I had a professor knock on my door one day just to see if I wanted a cookie. We shared meals with them in the dining halls, we sat next to them at educational lectures, and we even had the pleasure of traveling with them. If you didn’t travel with them, there was plenty of time to catch up and swap travel stories. It created such a unique bond. I learned about the tourism industry in the classroom, but what really made an impact was our field classes. I dove head first into real life tourism industry current events. These experiences are invaluable to my education and my understanding of the industry I now work in. | Semester at Sea Chronicles | New Delhi, India | | October 26, 2017 | Humayun’s Tomb | Built in the 1560’s, Humayun’s Tomb is recognized as the first garden tomb built in India. This trend-setting architectural feat is believed to have inspired many other similar tombs, including India’s prime tourism jewel, the Taj Mahal.  Humayun’s Tomb is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, meeting various criteria for its admirable Mughal architecture, authenticity, and cultural significance. With high tourist traffic, it was easy to forget that we were visiting the final resting place for a number of rulers and their family. | Semester at Sea Chronicles | Cape Town, South Africa | October 9, 2017 | Seal Island & Penguin Colony | We began our day traveling to Hout Bay. We sailed out to Duiker Island to observe the Cape Fur Seals in their natural habitats. Due to nature of the weather, the waves provided a particular balancing challenge. From fear of dropping my camera into the ocean, I decided to leave my camera in my pack. | Semester at Sea Chronicles | Tema, Ghana | September 28, 2017 | Torgome Village Visit | I had the privilege of participating in a day trip to the Torgome Village visit during my time in Ghana. When our bus arrived at the village, the children ran to greet us, grabbing our hands leading us to greet their village elders. The village elders welcomed us with traditional prayer and dance, inviting us to dance with them. The children laughed as we tried to imitate their cultural dance, but were willing to teach us. One by one, we all received a village name, a handmade piece of pottery, and a traditional, handmade village bracelet to welcome us to their community. My village name is Afi Morkporkpor. My first name is Afi, meaning I was born on a Friday.
