Maybe that's why he got along so well with Naruto. The two were complete opposites at first, and Naruto was like a sun to [Name's] moon. He made the shy boy's personality shine. [Name] knows that this is the main reason why he loves Naruto, his personality is everything to him and his way is honestly amazing.

Well, he didn't because Naruto simply wasn't yelling, he was just serious and didn't say much. "Hmph, I won't talk about him, not even to him. I don't want to hear anything about him."

Kakashi was close to the two kids, reading a weird book while taking care of them on his day off. Despite being unconcerned, even he looked at Sakura with wide eyes, which were returned by the girl. Looking at Sasuke, he also seemed surprised as he talked to Naruto. Sakura couldn't tell what was going on here, but it was definitely about Naruto and [Name]'s friendship.

The three reunited later. They loved the silence and calm that the fight between Naruto and [Name] had given, but it was much better to see the two boys being friends. Sakura was the first to speak in the circle. "Kakashi sensei, Sasuke kun... I know we were finally at peace now that Naruto and [Name] stopped talking, but they need to be together again." Kakashi agreed, and soon began to think about what could happen between the two boys so that they would no longer talk. The trio was silent for a few seconds, but Sasuke was willing to speak his mind. "I don't think it's anything serious." The pink-haired girl and the team's sensei immediately raised an eyebrow. "... It's like you don't know the two of them. They agree on everything, but when they disagree on something, they always end up arguing."

Kakashi seemed to think again, and came to a slightly different conclusion. "I believe the discussion was more serious this time. They've never gone so long without talking to each other." The trio comes to a conclusion: They fought over something they disagreed on, and now they don't want to talk anymore.

Meanwhile, the two brats returned home, and unfortunately for both of them... They lived in neighboring houses. The whole time, they didn't look at each other and had their arms crossed, trying to avoid simply looking at each other. "You know it's wrong. You live it, so you know better than I do that it's not fair." He needed to speak, he had to win this argument and convince Naruto. "You don't know anything about my life, I like my house and the way it is!"

[Name] wouldn't take that for an answer. Yes, the reason for the argument was more than a bad board game that [Name] liked and wanted to play all the time. The boy saw Naruto's situation, and knew that he deserved something much better than what he was living. But Naruto didn't see it negatively. He always had the bare minimum (and sometimes not even that), so for him, the bare minimum was enough.

They enter their respective houses, still fighting. Naruto throws himself on his bed and stays silent, while [Name] runs to his room and locks himself there, without greeting anyone in his house. The situation was serious.

It was a new day. Kakashi, Sasuke, and Sakura spent the entire night coming up with a plan to bring [Name] and Naruto together again. When Sakura had to leave because of her parents, Kakashi and Sasuke began to put the plan into action. It was simple, because the two boys didn't have enough brains to realize it was a trap. It was simple: lock the two boys in the same room. They wouldn't make enough effort to get out of there just so they wouldn't talk, Kakashi was sure.

The new day arrives, Sasuke went to call Naruto for Kakashi's 'new' training, while Sakura went to take [Name] to show her new move that she learned from Kakashi. The two fell, and when they arrived at the place (which was something like a small house with a lot of junk behind Kakashi's house), were locked together. Naruto and [Name] only heard the door lock close as they turned to face each other. They ran to open the door, but only heard a "I'll only open it when you're friends again."

For a long time, they remained silent. Deep down, they knew that they wanted to resolve things, because they had enough strength and power to break down that door or the fragile roof of that little house. But they didn't do that. Kakashi, Sakura and Sasuke couldn't hear anything coming from the room, and Sakura even considered calling a Hyuuga to use the byakugan and see what was going on in there. Time passed slowly for them.

Meanwhile, Naruto and [Name] finally talked. "...Naruto?" "What is it?!" The boy sighed, and seemed to want to give up on the conversation for a few seconds, but soon continued. "Sorry."

Naruto looked at him for the first time, he seemed surprised. It was the first time [Name] had apologized for something. Normally neither of them did, and they just went back to being friends normally. "You're right, I shouldn't interfere in your life. It's just that I can't find it normal that you have to eat only noodles and milk that are almost always expired. That's not fair, you shouldn't live like this." And for a few seconds, Naruto even looked like he wanted to cry. He missed his best friend. He wastes no time in throwing himself at [Name], nearly making him fall. "... I'm sorry too, okay? You only want the best for me and I treated you with so much contempt..." There, it didn't even sound like Naruto speaking. That came from his soul.

They stay in each other's arms for a while. They were tired of so much arguing and being apart, this distance wasn't good for them. It's not like Naruto will understand what [Name] is thinking right away, and it will take him a while to get used to the idea that he needs to cry out for a better life. He just needs his friend for that. His best friend.

The next day, the two were already doing crazy things around the village, running around Konoha and messing everything up. Kakashi didn't even listen to people's complaints, because in a way, everyone was happy that the two were back together. He remembers when he opened that door because his curiosity piqued him, and saw the two hugging. Of course, they let go of the hug immediately and Naruto almost fell to the floor in embarrassment. At least it's a happy memory for the two of them, without any fighting. Sakura looked irritated with the two, as usual. But Kakashi knew the girl, and knew that she was very happy with the two of them too. Sasuke seemed neutral, but if you have good eyes, you will see a smile.

You walk up to him one day, looking incredibly nervous for some reason before you grab his attention

The forest was unnervingly quiet, save for the occasional rustle of leaves and the distant calls of unseen creatures. Your team was on high alert, having already encountered several hostile teams. The tension in the air was thick, and even Naruto, usually the loudest among you, had fallen silent.

“Stay sharp,” Kakashi’s voice echoed in your memory before entering the Forest of Death. The four of you moved cautiously, every sense heightened.

As you turned a corner, the eerie stillness broke. Three figures emerged from the shadows—Gaara of the Sand and his siblings, Kankuro and Temari. Their presence was suffocating, the air thickening with unseen pressure.

“Sand shinobi,” Sasuke muttered, his Sharingan flickering to life.

Gaara’s gaze locked onto you the moment you stepped into the clearing. Unlike his usual piercing, almost predatory stare, there was something different. His teal eyes lingered on you, unreadable yet intent.

Naruto took a step forward, puffing up his chest. “Hey, we’re not looking for trouble, but if you start something, we’ll finish it!”

Temari snorted. “Bold words for someone like you.”

While the others exchanged words, you couldn’t shake the feeling of Gaara’s eyes on you. It wasn’t the cold, calculating gaze of an enemy; it felt… curious, almost entranced. You glanced at him, meeting his eyes briefly. His expression was unreadable, but something about the intensity of his stare made your stomach flutter.

“You,” Gaara finally spoke, his voice quiet yet commanding, “What’s your name?”

The question caught everyone off guard. Sasuke narrowed his eyes, stepping protectively in front of you. “What does it matter?”

Temari frowned. “Gaara, what are you—?”

“Let’s go,” Gaara interrupted, turning on his heel. His siblings followed reluctantly, but not before Kankuro gave you a puzzled look and Temari sent you a wary glance.

As Gaara disappeared into the shadows, his voice echoed in your mind. Why did it feel like a warning? Or… something else entirely?

The tension in the stadium was electric. The third part of the Chūnin Exams had everyone on edge, and your upcoming match wasn’t helping your nerves.

“Next match: Y/N from the Leaf Village versus Gaara from the Sand.”

The announcement made the crowd buzz with excitement, but your heart sank. Gaara’s reputation preceded him—his ruthlessness in combat was unmatched. But there was also the memory of his strange behavior in the forest. You didn’t know what to expect.

Gaara stepped into the arena, his arms crossed and his gourd of sand looming behind him. He looked as calm as ever, but as you stepped forward, you noticed something odd. His gaze wasn’t cold or hostile; it was conflicted.

The proctor raised his hand. “Begin!”

Gaara didn’t move. The sand at his feet twitched, ready to strike, but he made no move to attack. You hesitated, lowering your stance slightly.

Gaara’s eyes flickered with something almost vulnerable. “I don’t want to hurt you.” he whispered

“You can’t just stand there. Fight me.” you called out, frustration creeping into your voice.

The crowd fell silent at his words, confusion rippling through the spectators. Even Naruto, watching from the stands, yelled, “What’s his deal?!”

you snapped, fists clenching. “This isn’t a game. If you don’t fight me seriously, I’ll make you regret it.”

“Enough.” His voice was sharp, almost pained. “You don’t understand. I…” He trailed off, his fists clenching. The sand around him stirred violently, as if reflecting his inner turmoil.

“What I understand is that you’re underestimating me!” you shouted, rushing forward. Your kunai flashed in the sunlight as you lunged at him, aiming for a weak spot in his defense.

The sand reacted instantly, rising to block your attack. It shoved you back with surprising gentleness, almost as if Gaara were still holding back. Your feet skidded across the dirt, but you didn’t stop. You charged again, determination burning in your chest.

“Stop holding back!” you yelled, weaving through the sand and landing a glancing blow on his arm. It wasn’t much, but it was enough to make him flinch. “I can take it, Gaara!”

His teal eyes darkened, his jaw tightening. “You don’t know what you’re asking.”

“I’m asking you to take me seriously!” you snapped. “If you don’t, I’ll—”

“Enough!” Gaara’s voice was sharp, and the sand around him surged forward, faster and more aggressive than before. It wrapped around your wrist, yanking you back and slamming you into the ground. Pain shot through your body, but you gritted your teeth, refusing to give up.

You struggled to your feet, blood dripping from a cut on your cheek. “That’s more like it,” you said through a pained grin.

But something shifted mid-battle.

You had gone in for a risky close-range attack, only for Gaara’s sand to lash out like a whip, tearing at your uniform. The clash left your chest exposed briefly, revealing something Gaara hadn’t expected: : the faint lines of a pair of bandages squeezing your chest, functioning as a binder.

Gaara froze, his sand halting its attack for just a moment as realization struck him like a hammer. His mouth moved before he could think.

“…Oh. Are you a girl?”

The words were quiet, but they rang loudly in the arena. your eyes widened, ur own face flushing with anger, embarrassment, and a mix of emotions that boiled over.

“I’m not a girl!” you snapped, his voice louder than he intended. Your chakra flared, and you leapt back, your hands trembling with rage. “Don’t you dare call me that!”

Gaara’s expression faltered, his usually stoic face showing a flicker of confusion. He hadn’t meant it as an insult, but the way Y/N reacted—so raw, so defensive—it struck something in him. He realized he had said something deeply personal, something he didn’t fully understand.

The fight continued, but you fought with a fierceness Gaara hadn’t seen before, your movements sharper, your strikes heavier. The crowd murmured at the sudden shift in intensity.

Gaara’s chest tightened as he watched. He couldn’t stop thinking about his words, about the hurt in your voice. He didn’t understand why it mattered so much to him, but he wanted to make it right. Still, this wasn’t the place.

you decided to end the fight on your own terms, forcing the proctor to declare a draw when it became clear neither would back down. As you turned to leave the arena, Gaara’s voice stopped you mid track.

His tone wasn’t cold or distant this time. It was hesitant, almost vulnerable. “I… didn’t mean to hurt you.”

you paused but didn’t look back. “Then don’t say stupid things like that again,” you said before walking away, his shoulders tense but his head held high.

Gaara stood alone in the arena, the roar of the crowd muffled in his ears. He didn’t know what this feeling was—guilt, admiration, something more—but he knew one thing: he’d never see Y/N the same way again.

It was a few days after the Chūnin Exams, and the Leaf Village was bustling with post-event celebrations. The arena fights had been the highlight, but for you it was hard to shake the memory of Gaara’s words. You tried to brush it off—since you've been called worse—but something about the way Gaara had said it, so calm yet so clueless, made it sting in a way you weren't used to.

Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura, however, hadn’t let it go.

“That guy’s such a jerk!” Naruto huffed as the four of them walked through the village. “I mean, who even says something like that in the middle of a fight? If I were you, Y/N, I would’ve knocked him flat on his—”

“Naruto,” you interrupted, rolling his eyes. “It’s fine. I don’t care anymore.”

“You do care,” Sakura chimed in gently, looking at you with concern. “And it’s okay to care, Y/N. What he said was—”

“It was dumb, yeah,” u said quickly, cutting her off. “But I’ve got better things to think about, okay? Like what’s for dinner tonight.”

Sasuke stayed quiet but shot Y/N a sidelong glance, clearly not buying his attempt at nonchalance.

Before the conversation could continue, Naruto suddenly stopped in his tracks, his body tensing like a spring. “Speak of the devil,” he muttered, pointing down the street.

You followed his gaze and froze. Walking toward them was Gaara, flanked by his siblings, Kankurō and Temari. Gaara’s hands were tucked into his pockets, his usual stoic expression fixed in place, though his eyes flickered with recognition as they landed on you.

Naruto stepped in front of you without hesitation, arms outstretched like he was ready to protect you from a wild animal. “Oi, what do you want, Gaara?” he snapped, his voice louder than it needed to be. “Haven’t you already done enough?”

Kankurō raised an eyebrow, glancing at Gaara. “What’s he talking about?”

Gaara ignored his brother, his gaze locked on you. “I need a word with him.”

“Like hell you do!” Naruto growled. “You think you can just—”

“Naruto,” you said firmly, stepping out from behind him. “It’s fine. I can handle this.”

Naruto shot you a wide-eyed, incredulous look. “What? No way! You don’t have to—”

“I said it’s fine,” you repeated, giving him a pointed look. “I’ll be back in a second.”

Naruto grumbled but didn’t argue further, though he made no effort to hide the daggers he was glaring at Gaara.

You walked a few steps forward, stopping in front of the Sand ninja. “Is there anything i can help you with, Gaara?” your tone was neutral, but your posture was defensive, arms crossed over your chest.

Gaara hesitated, his teal eyes searching your face for a moment. For someone so fearsome in battle, he looked almost… unsure of himself. “I wanted to apologize,” he said at last, his voice quiet.

“…What?” you said

“What I said during our fight,” Gaara continued. “I didn’t mean to insult you. I… didn’t understand why it upset you at the time, but I realize now that it wasn’t my place to say anything. I’m sorry.”

You stared at him, your mind racing. You expected a lot of things—denial, indifference, maybe even hostility—but not this. Gaara’s apology felt genuine, his usual coldness replaced by something softer, something… human.

“…Okay,” you said after a moment, his arms relaxing at his sides. “Thanks, I guess.”

Gaara’s gaze lingered on you, and for the first time, you thought you saw something like guilt in those piercing eyes. “You’re strong,” Gaara said suddenly. “Stronger than I realized. And… I respect that.”

You felt your cheeks heating up, and quickly looked away, pretending to scratch the back of your neck. “Uh, y-yeah... Thanks.”

Behind them, Naruto let out a loud scoff. “What’s he saying now? He better not be trying to weasel his way out of this—”

“Naruto, shut up!” sakura shouted over his shoulder. You turned back to Gaara. “Look, I appreciate the apology, but… don’t do it again, okay? Just think before you speak about it next time.”

Gaara nodded. “I will.”

There was an awkward pause before Gaara glanced down at the ground, as if considering something. Then, so quietly you almost didn’t hear him, he added, “You’re… important to me.”

You felt your breath getting caught, and your eyes snapped back to Gaara, but before you could say anything, Gaara turned and started walking away, his siblings falling into step beside him.

Temari glanced at you with a knowing smirk. “Huh. That’s new,” she muttered under her breath.

Kankurō groaned, throwing his hands up. “Am I the only one who doesn’t get what’s going on here?”

As the Sand siblings disappeared down the street, you stood frozen in place, your own heart pounding in your chest. Naruto stomped over, his hands on his hips. “What did he say to you? Do I need to kick his butt?”

Yu shook your head, a little smile tugging at the corners of your lips. “No, Naruto. It’s fine.” you turnedback to the team, shoving your hands in your pockets. “Let’s just go get some ramen.”

Sakura and Sasuke exchanged glances but didn’t say anything. Naruto, meanwhile, continued grumbling under his breath about “weird sand guys,” but you barely heard him. Your own thoughts were elsewhere, stuck on Gaara’s parting words.
