I have no chill when it comes to story making and so here take my favorite oc thing to date-

 There's supposed to be this part where the main 4 characters r caught and forced into some sick form of execution and its basically music chairs, but with goblets and  three goblets are safe one is 'poisoned’ now two of the mains r native to the fantasy world, two are from earth. They're all technically human but because of genetic strains there's some unnoticeable differences one of these being that the fantasy folk think what we consider alcohol to be lethal;so that poison is just some like, fine wine and  so they all try to sniff and sip the goblets and everyone's really on edge and scared but one of them just makes a face and is like 'Ew oh god thats nasty-" But is generally fine because earthling+alcohol=lil drunk but fine and the others r just horrified  because obviously none of them got the poison and they're just staring at her and she just looks at the other earthing like

“Kian oh my god taste this, it’s horrible!”

“Uh!? You say that like it wasnt the horrible poison or whatever!?”

“Nono! It’s like, beer or something?” 

and he reluctantly takes it and sniffs it and makes a face like, 

“Almasi that’s just some really bad wine, I Don’t think it’s quite beer.”

And he takes a sip and just kidna judges it before passing it back and shrugging. “Yeah it’s kinda awful”

and the two natives r like “What the fuck-”

Falling down a deep dark pit and at the bottom there's a plate of cookies. They're my OCs. I've cookie run -ified the WBB cast what have I done.

I'm not sold on most of their names tbh. Febe especially deserved better than Red Licorice Cookie, but I do imagine her sailing on a ship with red licorice ropes would be a fun visual thing. Cattail Cookie for Reka is similarly not the best but alas, i was very tired when I wrote most of these.

I was dealing with some troubles organizing my thoughts regarding the fashions of each nations I'm dealing with in this world/story. I have plenty of Pinterest boards that I was relying on but I wanted to organize my thoughts more properly so these explorations were created!

I'll add some elaborated thoughts under the cut since it's a lot

The first two pieces are depicting the fashion of the Winter Court. If you know my more recent OCs, this is where Kaerrfuar and Faruaill are from. The first piece is meant to be general daywear. The focus in on robed/dress looks with lots of ties/fastens like belts or strings.

I want to revisit the Winter Court fashions and dissect it a bit more because while I think that what i did here isn't bad it is limited. I want to include more furs into their outfits, get a clearer distinction between outside wear and inside wear. The Winter Court (and Courts in general) are the type to have different outfits for all occasion and I think breaking that down more would be very beneficial to me in understanding the fashion culture.

I also want to revise the fastens because I think i need a LOT more lacing. Semi corsets and fashionable belts, LOTS of jewelry. I didn't even touch on the gloves the shoes the accessories. I made a note about patterns and then didn't do any patterns. A lot to be revisited!

The second photo is depicting Winter Court nightwear and undergarments. They do a lot of layering and because I do draw Kaerr a considerable amount in their pajamas i wanted a good reference. Especially since a big part of Kaerr's transition in marriage is finding clothes they arent overheating in after they move lol.

I think generally the pajamas/undergarments are straightforward and remain a reliable source.

The next picture depicts Wetland fashion. That is where Neirin was raised, as well as where his (adoptive) mother Reka, and much of his friends like Lage, Keel, and Reif are from.

The Wetland fashion has a lot more variety in longer shirts and functional layering. Lots of sashes and netted accessories because they are both a land and water based mer civilization. getting in and out of the water means they have more options in how the fabric is going to lay on them in motion and the functionality of it especially for the small fishing village where much of my characters are from will focus on wearing things that can be refashioned in various ways.

I largely think my exploration here is reliable. I'd like to do more in the way of jewlery and potentially feet and hand wrappings, since the mer don't tend to wear shoes, but overall I think I'm happy with it!

Lastly is my exploration for Coreilmar. This is where Neirin was born and where Neirin and Kaerr live for much of the story. Importantly, it is where Neirins family; Mairenn, Taran, and Manon live and I desperately needed to figure this out for styling them.

Guys,,,, its SO hard... Coreilmar was the one I needed this for most because it was the most difficult and I still think I have a lot to do for it.

Coreilmar has two main things I needed in their fashion, brighter more colourful attire. And armour inspired looks. This includes lots of junky body jewelry, pauldrons, and Bracers. I was struggling a lot with the chest and neck areas since at the time I was worried about the mer wearing anything over their gills. I am now at a place where I can imagine they do wear stuff over their chest at least, but it would have to be looser fabric or jingly jewelry. This is something I haven't figured out how to style yet and I really wanna do more work on it.

Coreilmar I also dearly want to figure out more of how fashion might differ between class levels, as well as identify how their marital jewelry might be significant from their other jewelry.

With all of these countries I want to test out more of how children are styled. How similar it might be to the adults and how much it might not. Would a child in the Winter Court put up with all the belts and layers the adults wear or would the court find easier ways to fashion children to be less bothersome. Are kids in Coreilmar eager to put on their bracelets and run around or would that be considered a waste of resources?

There's a lot to be explored for both the variety of the fashion and the context of the fashions so I hope to do more of this eventually <3

Tragic lore drop but Taran isn't a great person when the story starts out. Most of the characters in wbb are grey aligned, and Taran fits into that. But at the beginning he is very much an antagonist driven by his stormy feelings and is prone to lashing out. He doesn't mean to break Kaerr's wrist, but he's angry with Neirin and Kaerr trying to get between them and take some blame only escalates the situation. Taran hasn't had to reckon with the fact that he's so much bigger than Kaerr, there arent other fair folk or humans around that he's ever had to know. The merfolk who arent his family are quick to appease his temper, and his family are just as strong if not more than capable of deescalating him or else able to take a shove or a grab from him if he's really provoked enough.

Its not right, its not good, that he responds so violently. This is not who he wants to be, but it takes realizing his lashing out can have real consequences for him to find a way to reign himself in. Kaerr ends up paying the price for this lesson.

Some art of the sweeties in more formal wear. I imagine they're getting ready for or have just returned from an event of some sort. Hell on earth trying to design these outfits but I really have to draw them in jewelry more. Kaerr canonically wears a lot I think and Neirin should be wearing some too be it tokens from his friends or being made up for an event much as he loathes it lol.

Just two rebel girlies holding the world together. They're going for a nice walk out to Bookend to get away from how crazy things are getting at school.

When life settles down a bit for them the spouses take a trip checking in with the winter faith. Specifically Kaerr guest speaks at a schoolhouse and then gets to talking with the teacher. Meanwhile Neirin entertains the kids and gets hit with hella baby fever lol.

old bit of concept art thinking about who Taran's dance instructor might be. For those who don't know, Taran is a dancer and a general enjoyer of performing arts. He grew up idolizing the stories of battle his mother once lived. he had initially wanted to learn to fight, but his mother fought so hard for a world where her kids wouldn't have to do that. so she redirected him towards a form of dance in Coreilmar which is a sort of blend between a fighting style and dance. Im imagining a more fluid form ballet esq interpretation of a kata if that makes sense. Anyways, of course because Manon is an incredibly paranoid woman she wasnt going to let just anyone teach her kid, and hired an old friend of hers who followed her through war. Heulwen here was a dancer when they were younger. Though that passion was abandoned as they joined arms with Manon, just as the empress herself and many other stepped away from the arts their nation was known for to take up arms. Now with war largely over, they have reconnected with the art they once lived. they cannot perform as gracefully as before with their prosthetics and more limited range of motion in old age and disability, but they still adore the art and are proud to teach Taran. :] They're like an honorary uncle figure to Manon's children, which is really nice given Manon's estrangement from her actual siblings.

can't believe I didn't post this but I made a silly little zombie apocalypse au for WBB that came with the side affect of making them all human and modern which i think is just about as far as you can get from what WBB normally is. The merling designs translated far easier to human than the elves did tbh taking away their purple skin felt treacherous lol.

But the au itself is fun and I had a lot of fun fiddling with the idea when i was in a bit of an art slump :]

Also we made a group decision to make them collage aged instead of highschoolers recently just fyi. They get to grow up with us! we've been in this rp for so long lol
