So, it's Thursday here, which means...
28 Years Later is out in cinemas today!! Last year, I spent a fantastic six months shooting it and its sequel back to back, mostly up in the Newcastle/Northumberland/Yorkshire area.
I'm honoured to have been the Script Supervisor on this incredible film. Hope you enjoy! 😊

Ugh, I really hate that the two biggest Script Supervisor software programs (ScriptE, Scriptation) are Mac based only. I'd like to upgrade from the way I'm doing my job now, but I have been an Android/Windows user forever, and I really don't want to switch. I'd consider getting a Mac/iPad if I could get something cheap (even if it's an older model), but I know that's probably more than I want to spend... =/

Owen why. Why is the dry teabag on the counter. Are you pretending to drink tea when the cup is empty? What is this insanity Owen? Please tell me there’s tea in that cup

Actually, I don’t think I’m ever going to stop being pissy about the fact that we never learned what happened to Blevin. He’s built up in Season 1 as Dedra’s main foil within the ISB; a guy whose competent complacency has been rewarded with six sectors; a guy who follows the rules not because it’s the right thing to do, but because 1. It’s easier than breaking them to solve problems that could otherwise be ignored or passed down to someone of lesser rank, and 2. It’ll get him promoted. He’s close to Dedra’s age, but a big deal is made about her youth while Blevin’s “climbed higher” in comparison and he’s not much older. He’s irritating, and he’s arrogant, and most if not all of his attendants seem to be women which does make me raise my eyebrows, but. He was a central component of the Imperial plot in Season 1, and he’s a massive, unresolved question mark in Season 2.
We don’t see him have a Ferrix-scale failure at the end of the first season, so it’s not likely he was demoted. Yet, he’s not there a year later. Was he promoted out of Partagaz’ office? How would that work, considering Lagret seems of high rank and still reports to Partagaz? Did Blevin transfer to a different sector? Did he quit? Did he die? We don’t know. All we know is that Heert’s sitting in his chair, and while I understand the narrative juiciness of pitting Dedra against her former assistant, it’s sad, to me, that Blevin doesn’t even get a line of dialogue to explain where he went. He has some of the best lines in the show, but he vanishes without a word.
Might be a weird thing to say, but Blevin deserved better. Or… maybe not better, but he deserved something, at least.

Interesting moment in unleashed where Belinda is being carted away and yelling "Doctor! I probably doubted! Don't let her be ashamed of me! Look after her!" Which implies there was an alternate version where Belinda gets arrested first and the Doctor is left with Poppy? And also that Belinda remembered his name but didn't otherwise question the narrative?

if i was directing a 4 season prestige television show about the chu han contention i'd stick the liu froggie and lu swallow segment in as either traditional paper puppets told by a street storyteller, or handdrawn paint on glass animation in the shan shui hua style. last frame of the swallow and frog reflected in the water crossfades to lu zhi and liu bang's reflection in a bronze mirror.

like the tommy calling buck evan thing is just as Schrödinger’s bad writing as 7x04. either it is an incredibly stupid move to try to manufacture some type of special unique intimacy between them (which. crazy.) OR it’s an immediate hint to the audience that he does NOT get buck and is not the right person for him (which. yay!!! true!!!)

Saw our other art director, the amazing @ellemichalka, sharing some very early pre-vis, so I thought I'd share one of my first assignments as well - moodboards for the opening of episode 1. This was very early on so we didn't have many designs or even storyboards if I recall, so I was mostly working straight off the script. My process was to read through the script, group scenes that could be encapsulated in a single image, write a 1~2 sentence description of each image, put together reference for each, and then just draw! I didn't get super far before other pre-vis tasks started to take priority, but I still really like this sequence! Swipe for a closer look at each panel, and thanks for looking! Showrunner: Dan Guterman Art direction: @ellemichalka
