“And She, Asteria, conceived and bore Hecate whom Zeus the son of Cronos honored above all. He gave her splendid gifts to have a share of the earth and the unfruitful sea. She also received the honor in starry heaven and was honored exceedingly by the deathless gods. To this day, whenever any one of the men on earth offers rich sacrifices and prays for favor according to custom, he calls upon Hecate.
Great honor comes full quickly to him whose prayers the goddess receives favorably. She bestows wealth upon him, for the power is with her.“ - Hesiod “Theogony.”
Hekate - Titan Moon Goddess Talon Abraxas
Hecate was one of the only remaining Titans (alongside Helios) that went about their business after the Titanomachy, the war that placed Zeus and his Olympian pantheon at the helm of power.
As the former Titan gods began to fade away, Hecate’s shadowy personality seeped deeper into the pages of ancient Greek religion.
Hecate’s association with surreal concepts such as magic and witchcraft straddles conventional boundaries. She wasn’t just the goddess of dark things. Hecate held dominion over crossroads, necromancy, ghosts, moonlight, sorcery, and much more.
Regardless of this, she was significantly respected by the other Greek gods and her followers on the blue planet.

YES, I know I already posted these, BUUUT that was when I was only going to make Bloom's and Stella's family. Now that YOU have convinced me to do the families of all main Winx girls, I'll be dedicating one post to each of them! So HERE! Dragon girl Bloom and her double family! I'm also working on slight details I want to add to the inhabitants of each of the different planets/realms! People from Domino are really similar to humans, except for their fire-resistant, thick skin and big, pointy canines. But Domino's royal family specifically embody the image of the great dragon too in the form of fire-like hair and scale-reminiscent freckles all over their bodies!

Stella's Family's next! I already mentioned this last time but, in my version, Solarian's come in two main races: Sun and Moon people. - Sun people (Stella and Radius) are tan to dark skinned, have much more tolerance to both heat and strong lights, and shine in the sunlight. - Moon people (Luna, Cassandra and Chimera) are pale to blueish skinned, have a great night vision and are much more resistant to cold. They also kind of glow under the moonlight!

Flora's Family is here!!! Mother Alyssa, father Rhodos and a teenage version of her younger sister Miele! People from Linphea (in my version) have leaf-shaped ears and lots of flowers, leaves and even branches all over their hair! Do they grow from their head? Are they stuck because people literally live among nature and can't help getting some of it tangled in their hair? Who knows! But most of them don't even bother to take them out anymore!

It's the turn for Musa's Family! Late mother Matlin, father Ho-Boe and long haired Musa! (I don't know if you've noticed, but I'm drawing older versions of the Winx girls for these family portraits, just to play around with their designs!) "Music" was a very complicated concept to turn intro visible physical traits, but I decided people from Melody have ears in the shape of Bass clefs, paired with a couple of feather-like antennas (which some people style along with their hair) for better reception of soundwaves and other vibrations! They also have a voice box-closer to bird's than human's, giving them some powerful and very versatile voices!

Tecna's Family is here! People in my versions of Zenith create their children with genetic engineering, nomatter their relationship status! Tecna's parents aren't really a couple, yet they decided they liked each other's genetics enough to create a child together with the best traits of both their family lines! My initial concept was that people in Zenith are almost artificial-looking, with flawless skin, polygonal ears and diamond-shaped pupils that can see and project information in a holographic-like way. Glasses and earphones are also a basic part of their attire!

Here comes a BIG family!!! (Gosh this was a hard one to do!) In my version of Andros there are two main species, and a double monarchy for them: - The royal family of the land that rules over fairies (aka Aisha and her parents, King Teredor and Queen Niobe), - And the royal family of the sea, who rule over merpeople (led by her father's brother, King Neptune, his wife, Queen Ligea, and their children, twins Nereus and Tritannus, and princess Tressa). Both her father and uncle are half mermen, half fairies, while she herself -and all of her cousins- are technically mixed too! Both species have the ability to breath underwater, and have bodies resilient to water and cold temperatures, compared to humans. Yet, mermaids can swim much faster thanks to their tails and resist underwater pressure much better than fairies, while fairies can not only fly, but also resist dry environments and sunlight damage much better! Also both species get to choose their path between witches, specialists, and Fairy/Mermaid transformation! Alfea is a school for Fairies specifically (There's another mermaid-specific), while both Cloud Tower and Red Fountain accept all species to teach their ways!

Winx Club has regained popularity all over the internet thanks to a Netflix Live Action that just came out not long ago (A Live action that has NOTHING to do with the original, I must say…), and people were both drawing and redesigning these girls, so I wanted to give them my own touch!
Bloom, Fairy of the Dragon Flame: In my opinion, Bloom was lacking A LOT of dragon in her design, so I tried to give her kind of an innocent look, while mixing it with a Dragon warrior-princess vibe! Maybe a little bit more sporty and tomboyish than the original (who I didn’t like at all besides her cute appearance, I must admit…), but I think it suits her!
Stella, Fairy of the shining sun: I wanted to show the gorgeous fashionista supermodel princess of the sun she is (Tanned her skin a little precisely because of her planet being a sunny one, and added lots of gold accessories and make up because I thought it’d fit her!)
Flora, Fairy of nature: My favorite girl!!! I must admit a chubby Flora was not my favorite concept at first, but thanks to @maikyodel’s (IG) designs and other opinions from fans I read all throughout the internet… it REALLY grew on me. AND NOW I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT IT! Smol, soft sweet Flora is here to stay!
Musa, Fairy of Music: I must admit I love Musa’s original outfit, but somehow I feel jeans are a very earthling thing, so I tried to keep her urban style while using other types of fabric! I also made her smol because I think it fits her (Plus I love smol girls with big attitude!)
Tecna, Fairy of Technology: I tried to keep Tecna’s outfit minimalist and practical, though I think I could have done better with her helmet and textures! I still like the concept, tho… specially the wings!!! 😍 (Tech-wings… like an artificial fairy? Or is it just a prosthetic for those fairies who are born without organic ones…? Hummm…!)
Aisha, Fairy of Waves: It always bugged me that Aisha’s palette was green instead of blue (being the Fairy of the waves she is, it felt wrong! And Bloom as the blue one being the only reason… it felt like a bad character design planning…). I was originally going to leave Bloom in green instead (To me a dragon theme fits green better than blue), but I wanted to keep these girls as Iconic as possible, so in the end I left this sea-inspired turquoise/teal palette for Aisha, and I’m pretty happy with it! Also I tried to keep a sporty, beach vibe in both outfits of hers!

The Shadow Witch | Chapter 2: King of the Sea
Summary + Chapter 1 | Chapter 2
Pairing: Namor x Faye Nyx (Original Female Character)
Genre: Action, Adventure, Romance
Summary: Namora is always careful, always, however, one day she gets caught by knights. They plan to take her to their king, King Edwin Stark, as a prisoner. The stories of a king underwater spread throughout the land and the king wants to draw him out. Unfortunately his plan fails when a exiled and vengeful witch rescues Namora.
Namora opens her eyes slowly and her vision begins to clear. She could see the blue sky and could feel the cool water floating around her.
“Are you finally awake, sea creature?” A female voice asked her and Namora quickly sat up and turned to her right. She saw a woman in a black dress with long black hair, tan skin, and green eyes staring at her while she was sitting atop a rock.
Namora tilted her head at the woman and noticed she was eating something. Namora heard her stomach gurgle and looked down to gently stifle the sound.
“I can imagine you’re hungry. You were almost killed.” The mysterious woman said.
Namora eyed the bread in the woman’s hand and met the woman’s gaze.
“Here.” The woman reached into her pouch and took out a slice of bread and tossed it over to Namora.
The Talokan warrior caught it and stared at it curiously. It didn’t look like normal bread, it looked different. Namora stared back at the woman.
“It’s enchanted to restore your strength, eat it.” The woman sighed.
Namora carefully took a bite while eyeing the woman. She hummed in content and took another bite. Namora closed her eyes, savoring the sweet taste of the bread.
A loud splash was heard and the woman looked over at the sea. She raised a brow at the sight, “Well, that’s new.” She watched a man flying out of the water and toward the two. He had white wings on his ankles, he was wearing regal armor and wielding a spear. Behind him was an army of blue-skinned warriors standing there and waiting.
Namora dropped the bread and swam further into the water. “Ku'ku'lkán!” Namora shouted and bowed her head.
“Namora, teech k yaax yaantal kaxtik tuméen tuláakal tu'ux. Ku ki'imaktal in wóol ti' u estés u salvo. (Namora, we have been looking everywhere for you. I am glad you are safe)” The man with wings said as he landed on the shore.
“Táan in uts, in Ajaw. Le ko'olelo' tu jeechaj kuxtal. (I am fine, my king. This woman saved my life)” Namora answered.
The man then turned to the dark-haired woman and walked over to her. “You have my thanks, mi x-ko'olel (my lady).” The man put his hand over his heart and bowed his head.
The woman tilted her head and looked him over, “Are you the king of the sea or something?”
“Something like that.” The man grinned.
“I know everything about this land, yet nothing about a civilization under the sea.” The woman raised a brow.
“You have much to learn then, surface dweller.”
“Perhaps I do. Perhaps I might pay a visit. See how much of a threat you pose.”
“And to whom are you worried I will threaten? You?” The man approached the rock closer and stared at the woman.
The woman grinned, “Not me, handsome. The kingdom.”
“So long as your king leaves my people be, there is no need to worry.”
“Oh, but what fun would that be, hm?”
“Just who are you?”
“My name is Faye. Faye Nyx, the Shadow Witch, Unspoken Demon of the land...You?” Faye said casually.
“I have many names. For now, you will call me Namor, King of Talokan.”
Faye hopped off the rock and dusted off her dress. “Well, King Namor. You better make sure your warrior doesn’t come to these shores again, the rest of the land belongs to the egotistical King Stark but these shores here...They belong to me.”
“Well then thank goodness my warrior ended up here in your care.” Namor stepped closer to Faye.
“My care doesn’t come for free.” Faye raised a brow.
“Name your price.”
“Your feathered head.”
“You are quite bold, aren’t you?”
“Some people like bold.”
Namor grinned and moved his hand up to pluck a red feather from his helmet and held it up to the witch. “I like bold.”
“Careful, looks don’t mean everything.” Faye winked and took the feather from his hand.
Namor took this opportunity to take her hand in his and pressed a kiss to her knuckles. “You have my thanks, Lady Faye Nyx.”
“Faye is just fine, your highness.” Faye gazed at him through her lashes.
Namor stepped back and bowed his head to Faye. “Perhaps our paths may cross again.”
“If you’re unlucky, maybe,” Faye smirked. Faye curtsied and made her way onto the sandy shore and ran her nails along the feather.
Namor watched her walk away then turned back to Namora. He dove back into the water and joined his people. He traveled back to Talokan, taking note of the witch’s shores.

Monster Mash? Non-Scary Anime for Halloween Wimps
Halloween is generally viewed as a season of supernatural thrills, but some us—even some of us who routinely watch horror movies or read scary stories—aren't always in the mood for the terrifying and the macabre. Some of us, in fact, are gigantic, rubbery babies when it comes to anything more frightening than E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, so what are we supposed to do when October rolls around and suddenly the Internet is flush with features proclaiming which scary anime are essential Halloween viewing?
Fear not, gentle reader, for this article features nothing but the cutest, funniest, gentlest, or strangest viewer recommendations for anime involving things that go bump in the night. Below please find (in alphabetical order) a curated chronicle of some nine shows that are more sweet than spooky.
Actually, I Am
Year Aired: 2015
Contents: Vampires, demons, gender-bending werewolves, very tiny aliens
Profile: When Asahi Kuromine's would-be crush, Yoko Shiragami, turns out to be a vampire in disguise, she's allowed to continue attending the same school as her human friends so long as no one else learns her true identity, a task that is complicated by Asahi's general inability to keep quiet as well as the presence of numerous other supernatural entities among the class and faculty.
Comfort Level: A cozy evening under the kotatsu, with plenty of mandarin oranges on hand.
Where you can find it: Actually, I Am is currently streaming on Crunchyroll, and the series is also released on DVD and Bluray in North America by Eastern Star. An English language version of the original manga is available from Seven Seas Entertainment under the title My Monster Secret.
Cuticle Detective Inaba
Year Aired: 2013
Contents: Werewolves, mad scientists, goats with a penchant for organized crime
Profile: Former police dog turned private detective Hiroshi Inaba (who is also a werewolf) was ready to leave his old life behind, but his previous partner keeps dragging him into investigations involving the nefarious Valentino Family, a Mafia organization led by Don Valentino, for whom the letters “g.o.a.t.” take on a meaning other than “greatest of all time”.
Comfort Level: A play session with a friendly but precocious puppy.
Where you can find it: Cuticle Detective Inaba is currently streaming on Crunchyroll, and the series is also available on Bluray and DVD from Sentai Filmworks.
Demon Girl Next Door, The
Year Aired: 2019
Contents: Demon girls, magical girls, overly dramatic familiars
Profile: One day, Yuko Yoshida awakens to her dark destiny as “Shadow Mistress Yuko” (“Shamiko” for short) and learns that she must spill the blood of a magical girl in order to break the seal on her family's diabolical powers. Unfortunately, Shamiko's a complete wuss who can't even throw a punch and the local magical girl, Momo Chiyoda, is a physical powerhouse, so the two end up becoming close friends instead.
Comfort Level: Winning a particularly grueling thumb-wrestling match against your kid cousin.
Where you can find it: The Demon Girl Next Door is currently streaming on HIDIVE and VRV.
Don Dracula
Year Aired: 1982
Contents: Vampires, vampire hunters, enthusiastic large women who long to be bitten
Profile: A horror-themed comedy based on the manga by none-other-than Osamu Tezuka himself, Don Dracula only managed to animate 8 episodes before the commercial sponsors funding it went bankrupt. Highlights of the series include Dracula's cute daughter, Chocola, and Van Helsing having an intestinal emergency and taking a poop in Dracula's coffin.
Comfort Level: Realizing that even people regarded as artistic geniuses have a few turkeys in their body of work.
Where you can find it: Don Dracula used to be available via streaming on Viki and YouTube, but at the time of this writing, these videos are no longer available in the United States.
Flying Witch
Year Aired: 2016
Contents: Witches, seasonal spirits, vegetables with a threatening aura
Profile: A cozy little tale that follows the apprentice training of a would-be witch with no sense of direction as she lives with her cousins in the Japanese countryside, Flying Witch celebrates all of the little things that make life worth living, such as gathering wild herbs, spontaneously chasing pheasants, and making poor life decisions after imbibing a few too many adult beverages.
Comfort Level: Being swaddled in your warmest blanket with a warm cup of cocoa (complete with marshmallows) on a chilly winter day.
Where you can find it: Flying Witch is currently streaming on Crunchyroll, and the series is also released on DVD and Bluray in North America by Sentai Filmworks. An English language version of the Flying Witch manga is published by Vertical.
How to Keep a Mummy
Year Aired: 2018
Contents: Tiny mummies, tiny dragons, tiny creatures of myth and folklore
Profile: Caring for an animal companion can be a huge responsibility, but what if the pet in question is an ancient Egyptian mummy that can fit in the palm of your hand? How to Keep a Mummy is a short-form series that's sure to deliver bite-sized moments of bliss for even the sternest monster-lovers.
Comfort Level: A sixty minute YouTube compilation of pandas falling over, set to smooth jazz.
Where you can find it: How to Keep a Mummy is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
Interviews with Monster Girls
Year Aired: 2017
Contents: Teenage vampires, teenage yuki onna, teenage dullahans, teacher succubi
Profile: Overcoming physical disabilities and pushing back against social stigmas are a daily challenge for the demihuman high school students in this heart-warming and humorous TV anime based on the manga by Petos. And you thought your adolescence was weird...
Comfort Level: The realization, muted by the distance of decades, that maybe high school wasn't that terrible after all.
Where you can find it: Interviews with Monster Girls is currently streaming on Crunchyroll. An English language version of the original manga is available from Kodansha Comics, and the series is released in North America on a Bluray/DVD combo pack by Funimation.
Is This a Zombie?
Years Aired: 2011 - 2012
Contents: Zombies, necromancers, ninja vampires, magical garment girls
Profile: Ayumu Aikawa is an ordinary high school student who has to deal with the curse of undeath as well as a harem of supernatural interlopers including a reticent necromancer and a chainsaw-wielding magical girl in this light novel-based comedy that is silly, ultra-violent, and just a bit lewd.
Comfort Level: That numb, prickly sensation you get when you sleep in a weird position and your entire left arm falls asleep.
Where you can find it: Both seasons of Is This a Zombie? are currently streaming on Funimation, and Funimation also releases the series in North America on a Bluray/DVD combo pack. An English language version of the manga adaptation is also available from Yen Press.
Ms. Vampire who lives in my neighborhood.
Year Aired: 2018
Contents: Moe vampires, moe vampire enthusiasts, a thinly-disguised Amazon.com
Profile: It's a tale as old as time: girl meets girl. Girl loses girl. Girl discovers girl is a centuries old vampire, then gets girl back again by unceremoniously moving into her mansion along with her collection of creepy dolls. Vampire girl orders otaku merchandise online. Vampire girl's friends show up. Truly, it's a close encounter of the moe kind.
Comfort Level: The supreme satisfaction of ordering pizza online and then having it delivered straight to your door and eating it off of paper plates rather than cooking a real meal and then having to clean up the kitchen and the dishes afterwards.
Where you can find it: Ms. Vampire who lives in my neighborhood. is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
And there you have it, a (mostly) wholesome list of monster-themed anime for celebrating the Halloween season in a not-too-spooky manner. The titles here are by no means exhaustive—we didn't even mention Toei's 1980 masterpiece, Dracula: Sovereign of the Damned (pictured above)—nor did we delve into other honorable mentions such as As Miss Beelzebub Likes it. or MONSTER MUSUME EVERYDAY LIFE WITH MONSTER GIRLS.
There's a whole world of cute and cuddly Halloween-appropriate anime out there, just waiting to be discovered. What are some of your favorite non-scary series? Let us know in the comments, and be sure to have a Happy Halloweeen!

Paul Chapman is the host of The Greatest Movie EVER! Podcast and GME! Anime Fun Time.
Do you love writing? Do you love anime? If you have an idea for a features story, pitch it to Crunchyroll Features!

A list of the real, historical and mythological witches Sabrina references in her exorcist spell
Sup, just a third year Classics and English student at Uni who got a lil excited when Sabrina started referencing a bunch of witches from literature and antiquity in her exorcist spell. So here are a few small descriptions by myself as well as just copy pasted from wikipedia (all wikipedias will be hyper linked) about the witches referenced. BTW, this is super unprofessionally done so feel free to @ me, and one up me and do it better. I am by all means not a professional whatever this would be considered, i’m just out here trying to spread the good word. Love you al. Idk if this has been done before. Lilith of aradia Lilith is a figure in Jewish mythology, developed earliest in the Babylonian Talmud. Lilith is often envisioned as a dangerous demon of the night, who is sexually wanton, and who steals babies in the darkness. (wikipedia). Charles G. Leland, a 19th century folklorist who wrote Aradia or The Gospel of Witches conflated Herodias/Erodiade with Lilith. He connected Italian legends of the Italian Erodiade with Aradia. Because of Leland, Aradia is often associated with Lillith.(jesterbear)
Morgan le fay Arthurian (reference to king Arthur) sorceress/fairy/goddess type, practised both good and bad magic (wikipedia)
Black Annis a bogeyman figure in English folklore. She is imagined as a blue-faced hag or witch with iron claws and a taste for human flesh (especially children).[1] She is said to haunt the countryside of Leicestershire, living in a cave in the Dane Hills with a great oak tree at the entrance. (wikipedia)
Anne Boleyn Second wife of King Henry VII, bore him a daughter and had several miscarries while Henry courted other wives. She had multiple affairs and talked about who she would marry after the King had died which lead people to believe she was conspiring against the King, and thus she was beheaded. Others alleged she was a witch and that is why she was beheaded. Really though, King Henry was an unfaithful, boring, son hungry murderer who was looking for ways to marry a new chick. He was trying to find a sliver of an excuse to kill his wives and honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if Anne Boleyn cursed his bloodline. (wikipedia)
Witch of Endor In the Hebrew Bible, the Witch of Endor is a woman who summons the prophet Samuel's spirit, at the demand of King Saul of the Kingdom of Israel in the 28th chapter of the First Book of Samuel. (wikipedia)
Hecate goddess of magic, witchcraft, the night, moon, ghosts and necromancy. She was the only child of the Titanes Perses and Asteria from whom she received her power over heaven, earth, and sea.(theoi)(wikipedia)
Artemis You guys all ready know who she is, twin sister of Apollo, virgin goddess of the hunt, childbirth, and the moon. Vengeful as fuck, straight up released a pack of dogs on a guy (Actaeon) for peeping her bathing. Not too sure how she is a witch, but she is a strong, powerful, complex goddess with domain over many things. (wikipedia)
Luna Roman personification of the moon, and a triple goddess consisting of Hecate (lunar goddess of the underworld) and Diana (lunar goddess of the earth). Her domain rests over instinct, femininity and luck, and she is also known to be able to perform miracles in a blue moon, Again not really a witch, but a powerful, strong, female sorceress character. (wikipedia)
Hildegard of Bingen German Benedictine abbess, writer, composer, philosopher, Christian mystic, visionary, and polymath. Her visions could be considered mystical and witch like. (wikipedia)
Marie laveaeu A Louisiana Creole practitioner of Voodoo, who was renowned in New Orleans. (wikipedia)
Tituba South American, Barbados woman, living in England circa mid 1600′s. The first to be accused of practising witchcraft during the 1692 Salem witch trials, as well as accused two others ( Sarah Good and Sarah Osborne ) in doing so as well. Said to have straight up acted like a witch, having talked about black dogs and cats and wolfs. (wikipedia)
Mary bradbury Mary (née Perkins) Bradbury (baptized September 3, 1615 – December 20, 1700) was tried, convicted and sentenced to hang as a witch in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. However, she managed to evade sentence until the trials had been discredited, and died in 1700, aged 85.(wikipedia)
Nehman,Badb,Macha The Morrígan is mainly associated with war and fate, especially with foretelling doom, death or victory in battle. In this role she often appears as a crow, the badb. She incites warriors to battle and can help bring about victory over their enemies. The Morrígan is often described as a trio of individuals, all sisters, called 'the three Morrígna.Membership of the triad varies; sometimes it is given as Badb, Macha and Nemain (wikipedia)
Circe A goddess of sorcery (pharmakeia) who was skilled in the magic of transmutation, illusion, and necromancy. She lived on the mythical island of Aiaia (Aeaea) with her nymph companions. Appears in the Odyssey. (theoi) (wikipedia)
Moll dyer Moll Dyer (died c. 1697?) is the name of a legendary 17th-century resident of Leonardtown, Maryland, who was said to have been accused of witchcraft and chased out of her home by the local townsfolk on a winter night. Her body was found a few days later, partially frozen to a large stone.(wikipedia)
Juventas the virgin/Juno the mother Two sides of the Roman goddess Juno- the virgin and the mother. Roman goddess of love, woman, fertility, childbirth, marriage. Again, not really a witch but still a divine, powerful, female (wikipedia)
Cybil leek Sybil Leek née Fawcett (22 February 1917 – 26 October 1982) was an English witch, astrologer, occult author and self-proclaimed psychic. She wrote many books on occult and esoteric subjects, getting dubbed as "Britain's most famous witch" by the BBC (wikipedia)

Lutewell I (Test Drive 2)
A banging at the door startled Lutewell from his slumber. He took in a shuddering breath and forced his body to roll off the stack of folded blankets that were becoming a formalized bed of sorts the longer he stayed in King’s Landing. The wizard did not even make a thump as he landed on the stone floor of Commander Stokeworth’s manse. The woolen brown material stood a measly five inches tall, not much of a height to fall from. He did not mind for the shock of cool ground and the painless drop remedied the morning sluggishness that clung to him. It made battling the sleep from his limbs all the more easier. His twin, Ottell, would claim otherwise. Since his brother was not a morning person, Lutewell always discounted his opinion on the matter. The door a short distance across from him rattled some more as another heavy knock hit its wood. Lutewell hurriedly scrambled up from the ground in a bid to find something to make himself decent with. It would not do to meet the Commander of the City Watch bare as the day he was born. It could only be him that was knocking at the hour, him or his son, Martin, so Lutewell carried on looking around the room. His eyes passed over a pile of clothes strewn about where his brother would have made his bed, and the odor that clung to the mess dissuaded him from approaching. Then they looked towards the other side of the room where a rickety desk had been shoved into the farthest corner away from the door. On the chair before it a pair of breeches dangled from the backrest, and Lutewell’s eyes lit up with relief at the find. He swiped at the article of clothing, and the chair beneath it fell with a clatter to the floor when he pulled it off the piece of furniture. The only other person in the room let out a feminine groan as she rustled away from the noise, taking the burgundy covers that hung from his person like a cloak with her. Bare chest and footed and with only a pair of dark grey breeches to keep his modesty, Lutewell headed for the door. He caught glimpses of his disheveled form from the vibrating oval mirror that was nailed crookedly to mahogany. Wide-set eyes, the likes of which his eldest brother, Liett, once said their father claimed was a marker of their Lovegood heritage, dark lilac in coloring peeked through a mop of wavy ashen-white hair amidst the chipped glass. The hues that reflected off the mirror alongside his pale skin were the true reasons why his brother and he were in service to the City Watch as glorified messengers, or at least he still was. Ottell never did return from his accompanying trip with Prince Rhaegar to Harrenhal. A part of him wondered what had become of his living mirror copy, and another part of him mourned his disappearance. Then there was that other part of him that cursed his Travers’ blood despite the fact that it worked in his favor, their favor. Ottell would not have caught the Crowned Prince’s attention had they not been mistaken for King Aerys’ bastards. Taking a deep breathe, the young man steeled himself and opened the door. The grizzled face and cold hazel eyed stare of Manly Stokeworth greeted him on the other side. The Commander was already dressed in the titular black mail armor and chest plate of the City Watch, and a golden wool cloak was strapped to his shoulder guards. He took one look at Lutewell and glowered. “Get dressed. You got a royal delivery to make,” informed the Commander tersely before striding away. “At this hour?” asked Lutewell before he could think better of it. Stokeworth paused in his movements and shot him a nasty look over his shoulder, bared teeth and all. “Complain to me when you actually guard something! Now hurry it up and rear your ass into gear pretty boy! You’re gods damn lucky I can’t afford to lose anymore men! Remember that!” Lutewell flinched, took a step back, but still somehow managed to reply with a shaky, “Yes, Ser!” Then he shut the door. “Who was it?” asked a sleepy voice. The voice was muffled but sweet, far sweeter and softer than Stokeworth’s would ever be. “The Commander of the City Watch,” he replied as he took stock of the room once more. Peeling plaster greeted him at every turn, and the smell coming from his brother’s abandoned corner was starting to give him a headache. The smell, the mess, and yet, none of it seemed to bother his bed partner nor did it deter her from last night’s activities. Were it that his mother were present, “…unbefitting of a wizard of your station! Rest elsewhere my son! Only the best for a son of mine!” he imagined her prattling. Such a place would be an affront to her Sigvardi sensibilities, but this girl was not of Sigvard. Neither was she of Llowell like he and Ottell were. She had the blood of the Forebears; that much was clear. Her brother would not have been capable of Wizardry otherwise, but she was muggle and not the kind that his forebears had lived hidden from before the Cataclysm, not of the Knownmen. Maybe that was a good thing? Going from a high standard of living to a lower one, his situation essentially, was something he would not wish on anyone. Ignorance is bliss. She lay tangled in the covers, sun-kissed skin peeking out every so often through the gaps in the cloth where her legs moved, another thing he needed to fix up, but she did so blissfully. “Are we in trouble?” she questioned, this time louder but still as gentle as before. The covers slid off her as she sat up on her knees, doe like celery-green eyes gazing up at him in worry. He idly wondered if her distant Wizarding ancestor may have been a Greengrass from the Duchie of Astonia. Weir Gods knew celery eyes ran rampant in that family, and from what he knew of Westeros, it was an odd feature to find on a Crownlander. He let his eyes travel downwards. The button-up shirt she wore did nothing to hide the slender form underneath. He longed to relieve her of it. Lutewell did not act on it, however. He sat himself behind her and began to massage her shoulders. The young woman let out a sigh and leant her back against him as he soothed a stubborn bruise situated where shoulder met neck. “No, but I won’t recommend staying here once I’m gone,” he told her. “I’ll have the kitchen staff prepare you a basket, three meals that you can eat through out the day, all nice and wrapped for your use, and should you wish to see me again, come by the West Barracks. I’m usually there by noon. Ask for me by name, or tell ’em you’re there to see one of the Salamander brothers. They’ll know whom you speak of.” The girl shuddered, and Lutewell felt tear drops hit his fingers. “Is something wrong?” he asked, pausing in his ministrations. “It’s just,” she breathed, “my brother. He-he won’t take this well.” “I’ll talk to him,” he promised, pecking her temple. He hoped beyond hope that her brother was not one of those muggle-borns, the kind that acted more pure-blood than even the current pure-bloods. *** “So, pretty boy, how’d your night with your lady friend go?” “Martin,” nodded Lutewell to a boy who was on the cuffs of adulthood, or at least the age which wizards acknowledged someone coming into their own, “I’m guessing everyone heard that then?” Martin slid his legs off the table they rested on, and his chair fell forward with a twak. “Are you kidding me?” he asked, a smug grin plastered on his face. “Who wouldn’t have heard with the number you were doing on her? I’ve always known it was the quiet ones, but gods, that was a melody you had going on there!” Lutewell felt his face heat up at the remark. Oh how he longed for a wand. If only he had not lost his at sea. He might have been able to gain some semblance of privacy hours previously. “Do you think I can have your wench as my first?” pondered Martin aloud, and Lutewell froze mid step to the wall hooks where his surcoat, cloak, and utility belt hung. Personalized throwing knives, a dirk, and a sword were attached to the leather via sheath loops. “Chances are you’ve knocked her, so there’s no risk of me fathering a bastard.” Lutewell heard him say. “That would surely appease my lord father if he were ever to find-” “She’s not my whore!” roared Lutewell, running at the table where Martin sat and slammed his open palms over it. The young Stokeworth’s eyes widen in surprise as he jumped out of his seat. A nonsensical apology followed, tumbling forth from the boy’s lips, but Lutewell could not hear him over the thrumming of his own blood. “And… she will most certainly not be fathering any bastards,” he added more softly, glaring down at the table. “Did-did you…” spluttered the boy, going apple red. “Did I what?” Without any probing the salamander leveled his hardened gaze at the young lamb. “You know…” “Spit it out,” he said eerily calm. “Did you shoot your seed up her cunt! ‘Cause if you did…” Stokeworth’s arms flapped around him fruitlessly as he trailed off, and Lutewell yanked a seat out and plopped himself on it before grabbing at his own head in frustration. “A woman’s womb quickens not at the first few seeds,” he argued weakly, repeating something his healer of an aunt had once said. “It takes several tries for a witc-” and then he stopped. Grycia was no witch. She was muggle. She had no inborn magic to subconsciously guard her womb and reject something not yet attuned. “Witc?” asked Martin in confusion. “Let’s speak of this no more,” insisted Lutewell as he stood up and moved towards the hooks. “We’ve got things to deliver.” “There’s a reason you’re the younger twin, Lutewell, and this is why,” whispered a voice at the back of his mind. It sounded suspiciously like Ottell.
