Watching my spouse play the Oblivion Remaster has made me realize something: As an adult, I am so much more disappointed with Oblivion than I was when I was younger. And I was disappointed with it when I was younger, too, just for different reasons.
As a teenager, when the game first came out, I was disappointed because I'd read all of the lore books in Morrowind about Cyrodiil and expected something a lot more unique and interesting. When it ended up being so LOTR, I was thoroughly let down because I am not a fan of traditional fantasy when it's played straight.
As an adult, I'm just... aghast at how much potential the game had, only to fall flat on its face. The quests have so much flavor to them, but they're all very "wham, bam, thank-you ma'am." You're in, you're out, it's over. There are memorable NPCs, but they're one-note. Oblivion gates are not very scary at all? And isn't the point that when one of them pops up, it should be a big deal? Not just something you can wander near and mark it on your map to come back later. Feels like you should have FNV Quarry Junction levels of fear about some literal gates to hell.
Because it almost looks tempting to try. It almost looks like it could be fun. It almost looks interesting. And the game will throw cool concepts at you and then fumble the ball and fall over only to get up and shrug afterwards. I should not be trapped in somebody's nightmare and be able to solve it in, like, five minutes without guidance and just have the whole thing end with the guy having the nightmare saying, "For no reason, I believe you and I'll wake up now. :)"
For the record, I have the same issues with Skyrim, but like... AUGH. Oblivion has such better concepts for quests than Skyrim, so it feels even more disappointing.

When you get past the fact that it's part of the O'Brien suffering canon, "Tribunal" is kind of a hilarious episode.
I know this is Star Trek, so this is a feature and not a bug, and one that goes all the way back to TOS, but when you can make literally anyone look exactly like literally anyone else, how is literally anything kept secure in this universe? The Federation really operates on a lot of faith in the inherent honesty of the majority of people. How were they even surprised when they met changelings? Like, yeah we're not as quick about it but we've been able to change people's faces and species since tribbles existed and we've been doing it at least once a show since, we can give you some pointers. How are there not more checks for things like this?? Boone apparently somehow avoided getting any kind of medical exam during the entire time he served with Miles on the Rutledge. How are people still so sloppy about it too?? Like, Boone's transformation was so ahem thorough, his wife (and parents) didn't notice outside of a personality change... but the Cardassians didn't bother to get him dental implants or otherwise disguise that he was missing one significant tooth??
Also, is it just because the Archon in this case is completely corrupt, or does the Cardassian justice system make about as much sense as one designed by Alice in Wonderland's Queen of Hearts?

Seek God and Righteousness with an Upright Heart
Tumblr media
Seek God and righteousness with an upright heart. Those who live with integrity avoid falling into Satan’s traps and evil paths, leading them toward salvation, life, and true happiness.
This world is filled with countless traps set by Satan, designated to lead us astray.
However, many people, unaware of these deceptions, fall into Satan's snares, often without realizing how much their lives are being destroyed.
In this fast-changing world, more and more people are overwhelmed by hardship and suffering, facing challenges that seem unbearable.
On the other hand, for those who trust in God, there is a constant source of joy and peace, unaffected by the turmoil of the world around us.
Through God’s daily grace and blessings, we lack nothing and experience a sense of fulfillment in every area of our lives.
His divine love empowered us to live with an upright heart, free from the negativity and despair that consume those who follow worldly ways.
Living with integrity helps us recognize and avoid Satan’s traps, exposing his schemes and ultimately overcoming him.
My heartfelt prayer is that each of you, through daily gratitude and a pure love for God, will avoid Satan’s snares, defeat him, and experience the joy of a fulfilled life both now and for eternity.
