Power, Coercion, and Seduction
One of the most bizarre popular interpretations of The Patriot for me is the idea that Colonel Tavington forces Benjamin Martin to become involved in the Patriot war effort when he targets his family. This reading presents Martin's violence as merely a reaction to Tavington's choices. What it overlooks is not only that Martin has agency, but he has more than anyone else in the story. That agency should come with some responsibility; instead, all responsibility for Martin's violence within the narrative falls on the shoulders of a man who has to ask his general for permission to terrorize civilians in the film's third act. For all the pearl-clutching over Tavington killing surrendering soldiers first, he is also the only officer in the film to take prisoners, which only happens because General Cornwallis ordered him to give quarter. Do we not think he would have been torturing civilians for information about The Ghost before the militia was even trained if Cornwallis had allowed it?
People often use Tavington's desire for power to contrast him unfavorably with Martin, but Martin has no lack of power to produce a craving. Colonel Harry Burwell gives him orders when he puts him in charge of the militia, but he follows or does not follow them based on his whims. He allows his men to murder surrendering soldiers until his son and subordinate calls out his hypocrisy. His orders are to target supply trains, but he uses his force to rescue his own children and attempts to do the same for his friend, John Billings' family. When they fail, he gives his men a week's furlough and marries off his son, all while the Continental Army is planning a major engagement with the enemy. Either Martin has extremely poor communication with the Army, which the film never addresses, or he is simply a law unto himself. While Tavington languishes in impotence because his general will not allow him the brutal tactics that ultimately prove so effective, Martin is riding around doing exactly as he pleases, the Ron Swanson of the American Revolution.
He even makes plans to leave on the eve of battle after Gabriel's death, and all Burwell can do is plead with him in the words of his late wife to "stay the course," that his men need him and . . .
That's desertion, Harold. If one of your Regular officers tried that, you'd court martial him. Clearly, no one can make Martin do anything he does not want to do, least of all Tavington.
Since Tavington actually is subject to the authority of his superior officers, he is reliant on seduction and manipulation to get what he wants. In the case of Cornwallis, he offers the general glory free from consequence, a tall order that he definitely cannot fill . He gets what he wants from Captain Wilkins, who is under his orders, not by threatening him but by appealing to his desire to save face. Wilkins said those who stood against England deserved to die traitors' deaths; Tavington frames himself as giving him the opportunity to prove it, and it works. Burning the Patriot civilians in Pembroke Church is Wilkins' choice like granting Tavington carte blanche is Cornwallis's choice.
Coercion compels a person to do something against their desires; seduction gives a person permission to act on desires already present. When Tavington murders Thomas, he does not transform Martin from a pacifist to a man for whom violence is the only option in that moment. Martin already has a stockpile of weapons in waiting. He knows exactly where to find his French and Indian War buddies, and he has better battle plans than any of the Continental generals. When it comes to violence, Benjamin Martin stays ready.
I would argue that killing Martin's sons is an act of seduction as well as an incitement to violence, but as is the case with the other two men, these acts have only as much power as Martin gives them. The face-off in which Martin tells Tavington "Before the war is over I am going to kill you" and Tavington replies "why wait?" represents another attempt on Tavington's part to seduce Martin into violence, but this time he fails. In a later scene, cut from the theatrical release, he tries and fails to seduce Cornwallis into assuring his reward, and the two scenes share striking visual similarities. Both feature over the shoulder shots that position the two men far closer than they need to be for the purpose of conversation. The scene with Cornwallis is more on the nose. Tavington's shirt is open, his hair is loose, the orderly leaves without bidding as the two draw closer, almost as though similar scenes have played out between them recently that had very different endings to this one. But there is no lack of heat between Martin and Tavington at the gate of Fort Carolina, particularly compared to the single seduction scene that actually precipitates sex, between Ben and Charlotte. Yikes.
Neither Martin nor Cornwallis gives in to Tavington's seduction in these scenes, which should reinforce that they are in charge of their own behavior and thus culpable for their choices. And to the extent that blame for the British defeat falls on anyone but Tavington, it falls on Cornwallis. That seems fair enough; he is the general of the British Army in the southern colonies. But when the blame for Martin's poor choices somehow also falls on Tavington . . . the story loses me. But I suppose that is part of the fantasy for the film's intended audience. Martin gets the benefit of both ultimate authority over his actions and complete immunity to their consequences. Perhaps he should have run against George Washington given that these are the very qualities some Americans seem to look for in a president.

This is perhaps bitchy and uncharitable and certainly almost a year late to really be complaining about but fuck it, we complain anyway.
Yes, I am still unreasonably upset about Sutekh clinging to the side of the TARDIS since The Pyramids of Mars, and upset because I was sort of foolishly hoping we might get some actual characterization fallout from that addressed properly this series, which of course isn't going to happen. And the reason I'm upset about it while it seems fairly few people care all that much is because it's a litmus test for the degree to which any given person sees the TARDIS as a character in her own right. And it's fairly obvious now that rtd doesn't, or at least, only does when it suits him.
Because the thing is, if the TARDIS is a character, is a person, then the manner in which Sutekh uses and usurps her, and the ambiguity in whether it was consensual ('seduction' vs 'coercion') becomes extremely important to the Doctor and the TARDIS's relationship, and the TARDIS's characterization as a whole, both going forward and echoing back. Like bearing in mind that what actually happened is so ambiguous, what Sutekh being 'there the whole time' even fucking means, that trying to pull a point out of it is almost an exercise in futility from the jump, but to borrow some wildly inadequate or perhaps even inappropriate language, it's the difference between whether the TARDIS has been cheating on the Doctor for more than half the length of their entire relationship, or whether she'd been being (sorry) raped that whole time and the Doctor just hadn't noticed.
And yeah, evidently it was too much for me to hope that there would ever be any kind of real emotional or plot-relevant followup about that, because, again, that requires you to see the TARDIS as a character whose choices and emotions and relationships matter beyond their immediate relevance to the plot. And this isn't new by any goddamn means. This isn't actually the usual split between the traditionalist and the avant-garde camps. The TARDIS's sapience and autonomy do not begin with The Doctor's Wife; this is established (more or less) in The Edge of Destruction, the third ever serial in the history of the show, all the way back in nineteen sixty-fucking-four.
And y'know, yes, it would still be a big deal if Sutekh jumped on in Wild Blue Yonder (as would make way more logical sense) rather than Pyramids; the ambiguity of consent that the show either doesn't care or lacks the stomach to address would still be a blow, but it wouldn't have the unutilized capacity to fundamentally alter the relationship between the two longest-running characters in the franchise if it was the span of a season, rather than thousands of years in-universe and nearly five decades in real life. And not to be conspiratorial or assume categorical bad faith on rtd's part, but yeah, it's hard not see that particular unnecessary detail as a petty response to Moffat and Chibnall's own continuity-and-paradigm-altering retcons, and an attempt to get his own shot in.
And it's just. Never gonna get talked about, huh. 'Cause it doesn't actually matter, right? 'Cause it's not like the TARDIS is really a person, right?
#megan whines into the empty abyss of cyberspace#doctor who#the tardis#doctor who meta#rtd critical#sa mention#in an extremely abstract sci-fi kind of way#forgive me I am trying not to be grumpy#I'd managed to sort of put it out of my mind but this has been bothering me for nearly a year now#and the closer we get to the end of this extremely short season the more I'm resigned to it never coming up again :/#the TARDIS is unironically non-jokingly one of my favorite characters on the show and if you're gonna do *this* with her#can we at least have any emotional fallout??#can it matter for more than the span of one otherwise deeply mediocre episode?#and the answer is no because that would require rusty in particular to actually think through his finales#which I'm not convinced he was doing in the mid-2000s and definitely isn't doing now#as he's all but openly admitted#whatever#this is all totally irrelevant to anything going on in this series but it's been rotating in my mind again ever since we started back up#esp with all the doomer talk about nuwho getting canceled#and like again not to be the sour note in the hype train but if we are getting canceled again and king rusty isn't enough to save it#then imo we could have at least got some cartmel-esque new blood in before we get the axe#rather than dragging out the nostalgia-poisoned geezer tour#wow this got shockingly mean and bitter down here at the bottom of the tags#wild that this is bubbling up out of me after The Interstellar Song Contest#which I largely found quite fun (and obvs no matter what ends up happening I'm glad we're getting Carol back on the show one last time)#anyway if you don't care about or respect the TARDIS then what are you even doing writing dr who??#that's their wife you MUST love her as much as they do it's imperative

mama gogo, episodes 8 and 9
the claim that tina's club is selling something that annie's lacks (loosely, romance vs sex) is fascinating to me given that the whole point of the hosts is that there are aspects beyond literally hot men dancing on stage. the thing that prince club is selling is specifically this very….idealized/fantasy version of romance. it literally references specific lakorns! which of these is more fake or more real?
first of all "tell moodang to go back to service my wife" is a crazy line. but beyond that this idea does keep coming up where people's insecurities are phrased as losing the beauty of youth but that’s not the point, the thing he’s actually lost here is….the ability to make his wife happy, maybe, or more to the point the belief that he can.
did think chen's body language here was very cute. also enjoyed him just sort of waiting for her to tell his mother off while going '...hot.' yeah me too chen.
wahh the like. bickering they do about her age (killing him for 'who's britney spears?') and then him trying to do a bit like ‘who said anything about a relationship?’ and her for once not playing along and just straight up saying directly look we both know what’s going on here are you flirting or not? don’t waste my time.
man i don't even know what to say about these except that it's alwayyyys about sex work even when it’s not. annie pointing out explicitly that their relationship has potential undertones of coercion given that she very much still owes him money, fifa asking mikhael if this is how he gets good tips when he flirts with her, mikhael offering to dance for her for free....just this constant question of what it means for money to be attached to intimacy and to affection, of where you draw the lines and how they get blurred, of the distinctions between what is paid for (and traded willingly!) and what is offered freely.
i'm not entirely sure what to make of both annie and tina's clubs bouncing back and forth over what they think their target market really wants (seduction! romance! boy bands! sexy car wash!) except to say that Eye think they're both overlooking a major market segment here.
and i'm a sucker for scenes that play with the question of what is false or true; chen and annie having a fairly direct conversation about how they feel about one another as annie's crying ('what would you do if i fell in love?') and then him offering her the eye drops so she can fake cry. i just think it's neat!
#keeping this in the tags but the reoccurrence of the thk bowling alley once again delightful to me. love a repeated set#also. i've been politely averting my eyes from the product placement for the most part bc i understand it comes with the territory#but the dueling deodorants Truly baffled me. do directors get instructions or is it just 'feature the product for X seconds. and.....go !'#mama gogo#may liveblog tag

Some Miami Vice Thots*:
Big Screen, I Notice More Stuff: That club is called MANSION. Linkin Park (from Agoura Hills, or what seems to me to be the Westchester, NY of the San Fernando Valley — Californians please correct me if I'm wrong), mashed up with Jay-Z (a Black billionaire from the mean streets of Bed-Stuy, the New New Gatsby/Big Joe Turner). Relevant to bullet point immediately below.
According to Michael Mann Miami in the mid-aughts is Age of Discovery (Digital Edition) meets Crime Family Feudalism in recursive recurrence, multiple timelines and identities inhabiting the same geographic vectors (everyone is always forever in motion). The very first interaction Sonny has with someone who is not a team member is a bartender who says she is from Lisboa, to which Sonny replies, "But you got your tan in Miami." This is what I read: She's the "reformed" Portuguese equivalent of the character in this Butch Walker song. She came from money, she lost it perhaps, but she's been since... repossessed? There's a more sinister interpretation under the surface, since she is under the roof of a powerful (and possibly related) employer whose business operations require unwavering loyalty + utmost discretion in exchange for protection (which in this case is also exploitation). Tan, in other words, as a form of Midas touch. Sacrifice to a sun(/SON!!!) god (or is Sonny more of a defecting Samson figure, speaking to an inert "Neon" Delilah who will only feign at seduction/betrayal, moving through the moves?). So already these two characters are speaking in code to each other, which is an amazing storytelling device on Mann's behalf, and you can shake so much out of that.
Derived from the above: "My Mommy and Daddy know me," hilarious line btw, becomes double-doublespeak, quadruple-speak! Not only is he pretending to tell the truth under a fabricated fundamental, the statement itself is yet another subtextual lie. His parents don't really know him, they just thought they did, which is why he's run off to become what he's become. Rico is the partner who acts out of duty first, love secondarily; Sonny is the Byronic inverse. Diaspora southern gothic. I like to think this is the mythic re-interpretation/inspiration Mann wishes a certain American population would draw from, in lieu of... current political/pop cultural figureheads.
Gina tenderly comforting the injured Zito... this shot is seconds long and yet captures my heart every time! Where is the backstory fic for these two!
Once again, the Rico/Trudy sex scene is a definite contender for the most affectionate, respectful, and sensual one in Hollywood history
Oh, Isabella. My girl Isabella. I overheard someone in the lobby call this film "such a guy movie." I don't know what drugs these people are on. Especially when counterpart to the hypermasculine satirical camp is the sensitivity and sympathy with which Mann portrays the situation of women, how we are exploited either way/anyway, deprived of romantic trust/human partnership by being put at risk by men and also by them denied the agency of taking risks for ourselves. There's both heartbreak and hypocrisy in how she attacks Sonny at the end, screaming "Who are you!" (The audience's heartbreak is: We have an instinctive uneasy sense of the systems that force her, and the rest of us, to live as hypocrites. Who are any of us, anymore, really!)
I was like MICHAEL DO THE GARMENTO CRIME DRAMA W/ ME and he was like "I made Miami Vice already, dummy! Pay attention!" Me: "OK!!!" [Pays a visit to Auerbach's Keller in Grand Central Terminal and then stays up until 5 AM playtesting West Village: Walpurgisnacht/watching the Chicago & Miami Postmodern Pseudepigrapha about Non-Recourse Factoring]
The "color coding" in this film is bonkers. More on that eventually, I'm still chewing on it.
The duality of Man(n)ager: the tragic pathos imbued to Alonzo vs. the vaudevillian coercion of Nicholas. "Why is this happening to me?!" cracks me the fuck up. This most powerful, literally biblical quandary of them all, the whole of Mann's filmography boiled down to its most singular and direct (I.E., truthful) expression, in the form of a persecuted exclamation, and it's played for laughs. Because what can you do except laugh! It's Job(/lowercase job) as circus performance, as a cabaret act. Job's poetry parodied into factional slogans and Shandyan-American dick jokes. I can't believe people think this is a stupid movie, it's pretending to be stupid!!!
*The appropriate spelling for this film in particular
#the style IS the substance. so jot that down#also risky business is the MTV generation's goodbye columbus#miami vice 2006#michael mann

Albus Dumbledore vs. Lord Voldemort: A Clash of Wizards
In the magical universe of Harry Potter, the rivalry between Albus Dumbledore and Lord Voldemort transcends a mere battle of wands. It represents a profound ideological conflict: the pursuit of power and dominance versus the embrace of love, sacrifice, and moral integrity. This article delves deep into the lives, philosophies, and the ultimate showdown between these two towering figures of wizarding lore.
Albus Dumbledore: The Architect of Resistance
Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore was far more than just the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. A prodigious wizard from an early age, Dumbledore was celebrated for his unparalleled intellect, mastery of magic, and deep understanding of human nature. However, his journey to greatness was marked by tragedy and internal struggle.
Born in the late 19th century to Percival and Kendra Dumbledore, Albus experienced the shattering of his family following his father’s imprisonment and his mother’s untimely death. The accidental death of his sister, Ariana, during a heated duel between Albus, his brother Aberforth, and the young Gellert Grindelwald left a lasting scar. These events instilled in Dumbledore a profound awareness of the dangers of unchecked ambition and the seductive nature of power.
Dumbledore’s guiding principle was rooted in his belief in the redemptive power of love and choice. His emphasis on compassion, selflessness, and free will contrasted sharply with the ideology of his adversaries. As a mentor to Harry Potter and many others, he inspired courage and resilience, laying the groundwork for the eventual defeat of Voldemort.
Lord Voldemort: The Pursuit of Immortality
Born Tom Marvolo Riddle, Voldemort emerged as one of the most feared dark wizards in history. His rise to infamy began with a tragic childhood marked by neglect and an insatiable desire for power. Orphaned at a young age, Tom’s discovery of his magical heritage became a turning point, fueling his belief in his own superiority.
While at Hogwarts, Riddle displayed exceptional magical talent but also a disturbing tendency towards manipulation and cruelty. His descent into darkness was driven by his obsession with immortality and domination. Voldemort’s philosophy rejected the value of love and empathy, viewing them as weaknesses. He sought to conquer death, considering it the ultimate defeat, and turned to the dark arts to achieve his goals.
Through the creation of Horcruxes, Voldemort fragmented his soul to ensure his survival. However, this act of defilement symbolized his ultimate moral decay, as it required the murder of innocent lives. Voldemort's relentless pursuit of power led him to establish a reign of terror over the wizarding world, marked by the persecution of Muggle-borns and the suppression of dissent.
Philosophical Contrasts: Love vs. Fear
The conflict between Dumbledore and Voldemort is not merely a battle of magical prowess but a collision of ideologies. Dumbledore represents the belief that love is the most potent form of magic, transcending the boundaries of life and death. His teachings emphasized the importance of selflessness and the power of unity.
In contrast, Voldemort epitomized the philosophy of fear and control. He viewed emotions like love as liabilities and sought to dominate through fear and violence. This stark difference in perspective was evident in their respective approaches to leadership and conflict. While Dumbledore inspired loyalty and trust, Voldemort ruled through intimidation and coercion.
The Duel at the Ministry: A Clash of Titans
The legendary duel between Albus Dumbledore and Lord Voldemort at the Ministry of Magic in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is one of the most visually stunning and emotionally charged moments in the series. This confrontation, set against the backdrop of the prophecy concerning Harry Potter, highlights the strengths and philosophies of both wizards.
The Setup
The battle takes place in the Atrium of the Ministry of Magic after Harry and his friends narrowly escape the Death Eaters in the Department of Mysteries. Voldemort, in a desperate bid to retrieve the prophecy, confronts Harry but is intercepted by Dumbledore.
The Duel
The duel is a masterclass in magical combat, showcasing a dazzling array of spells and techniques. Dumbledore’s defensive and creative use of magic contrasts with Voldemort’s aggressive and destructive style. The battle includes elemental magic, with Voldemort conjuring fire and water while Dumbledore masterfully counters with manipulation of his environment.
Dumbledore’s calm demeanor during the duel underscores his confidence and experience, whereas Voldemort’s rage and desperation reveal his vulnerability. Despite Voldemort’s immense power, Dumbledore’s superior strategy and understanding of magical theory allow him to hold his own.
Significance
This confrontation is not just about raw power but also about moral conviction. Dumbledore’s willingness to put himself at risk for the greater good stands in stark contrast to Voldemort’s self-serving nature. The duel ends with Voldemort retreating after failing to overcome Dumbledore, foreshadowing his eventual downfall.
Lessons and Legacies
The rivalry between Dumbledore and Voldemort offers profound insights into the human condition and the choices that define us.
The Power of Choice
Dumbledore’s belief in the power of choice is central to his philosophy. He understood that individuals have the capacity to shape their destinies through their decisions. This belief is exemplified in his mentorship of Harry Potter, encouraging him to choose love and bravery over hatred and fear.
Voldemort, on the other hand, represents the dangers of succumbing to fear and ambition. His inability to understand or value love ultimately becomes his greatest weakness.
The Nature of Leadership
Dumbledore’s leadership style is rooted in trust and mutual respect. He empowers others to find strength within themselves, fostering a sense of community and purpose. Voldemort, in contrast, rules through fear and manipulation, isolating himself from genuine relationships.
The Role of Sacrifice
Dumbledore’s willingness to sacrifice himself for the greater good underscores his commitment to his principles. In contrast, Voldemort’s refusal to acknowledge the value of sacrifice blinds him to its transformative power, as seen in Harry’s ultimate triumph.
The Final Reckoning
Though Dumbledore does not live to see Voldemort’s defeat, his influence is deeply felt throughout the series. By guiding Harry and the Order of the Phoenix, Dumbledore lays the foundation for the resistance against Voldemort’s tyranny. His understanding of Voldemort’s psyche and his meticulous planning ensure that Harry is prepared to face his destiny.
Voldemort’s downfall is the culmination of his own choices and the resilience of those who oppose him. His inability to comprehend the power of love and sacrifice becomes his undoing, as Harry willingly embraces death to protect his friends, rendering Voldemort’s spells ineffective.
Conclusion
The conflict between Albus Dumbledore and Lord Voldemort is a timeless tale of good versus evil, love versus fear, and sacrifice versus selfishness. Their epic duel at the Ministry of Magic serves as a microcosm of their larger ideological battle, highlighting the strengths and flaws of both characters.
In the end, Dumbledore’s legacy endures, not through the monuments of power, but through the lives he touched and the principles he upheld. Voldemort, in contrast, becomes a cautionary tale of the dangers of unchecked ambition and the rejection of humanity’s greatest strength: the capacity to love.
Through this profound narrative, J.K. Rowling reminds us that the choices we make define us, and even in the darkest of times, love, and courage can light the way.

you've mentioned before that digger is a sociopath, can you explain?
ehhhhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeehhhhehheheehehehehe okay, I am not sure if this is just general interest or if you don’t believe me lol but alrighty. first off to explain my thoughts and ideas to you, I need to explain what a sociopath is and to do that I ALSO have to explain a psychopath, becuase the terms are often used interchangeably or incorrectly which is both wrong, and so to understand my ideas of digger you need to know my understanding of these disorders....sooo look under the cut if you want
PSYCHOPATH VS SOCIOPATH??
DISCLAIMER:
this is NOT a self-diagnosis checklist, if you think you are suffering from a mental disorder/illness go see a professional
i am not a registered psychologist/psychiatrist/general practitioner, I do study psychology, however I am NOT a professional, this is not a professional opinion, this is what I have learnt in my studies, however again if you think you are suffering from a mental disorder/illness go see a professional
if anything I feel this is merely information to look at for perhaps writing or analysing a fictional character, not a real life person, okay?
ANTISOCIAL PERSONALITY DISORDER
antisocial: adjective 1.contrary to the laws and customs of society, in a way that causes annoyance and disapproval in others.
so basically in psychology terms someone who is antisocial is not just an introvert, or hates parties, or has social anxiety, it is someone who is usually disruptive to society, breaks laws, or acts in harmful or negative ways. (abuse, violence, petty crimes, vandalism, manipulation, intimidation)
psychopathy and sociopathy both are in association to antisocial personality disorders, which as the name suggests, revolve around antisocial behaviour. people with psychopathy/sociopathy suffer from antisocial personality disorder HOWEVER just because you suffer from antisocial personality disorder does not automatically make you either a psychopath or sociopath (if that makes sense).
the dsm-5 (diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders) gives the following criteria for antisocial personality disorder:
“ The essential features of a personality disorder are impairments in personality (self and interpersonal) functioning and the presence of pathological personality traits. To diagnose antisocial personality disorder, the following criteria must be met:
A. Significant impairments in personality functioning manifest by: 1. Impairments in self functioning (a or b): a.Identity: Ego-centrism; self-esteem derived from personal gain, power, or pleasure. b.Self-direction: Goal-setting based on personal gratification; absence of prosocial internal standards associated with failure to conform to lawful or culturally normative ethical behavior.
AND
2. Impairments in interpersonal functioning (a or b): a.Empathy: Lack of concern for feelings, needs, or suffering of others; lack of remorse after hurting or mistreating another. b.Intimacy: Incapacity for mutually intimate relationships, as exploitation is a primary means of relating to others, including by deceit and coercion; use of dominance or intimidation to control others.
B. Pathological personality traits in the following domains: 1. Antagonism, characterized by: a.Manipulativeness: Frequent use of subterfuge to influence or control others; use of seduction, charm, glibness, or ingratiation to achieve on’s ends. b.Deceitfulness: Dishonesty and fraudulence; misrepresentation of self; embellishment or fabrication when relating events. c. Callousness: Lack of concern for feelings or problems of others; lack of guilt or remorse about the negative or harmful effects of one„s actions on others; aggression; sadism. d. Hostility: Persistent or frequent angry feelings; anger or irritability in response to minor slights and insults; mean, nasty, or vengeful behavior. 2. Disinhibition, characterized by: a. Irresponsibility: Disregard for – and failure to honor – financial and other obligations or commitments; lack of respect for – and lack of follow through on – agreements and promises. b. Impulsivity: Acting on the spur of the moment in response to immediate stimuli; acting on a momentary basis without a plan or consideration of outcomes; difficulty establishing and following plans. c.Risk taking: Engagement in dangerous, risky, and potentially self-damaging activities, unnecessarily and without regard for consequences; boredom proneness and thoughtless initiation of activities to counter boredom; lack of concern for one„s limitations and denial of the reality of personal dangerC. The impairments in personality functioning and the individual‟spersonality trait expression are relatively stable across time andconsistent across situations.D. The impairments in personality functioning and the individual‟spersonality trait expression are not better understood asnormative for the individual‟s developmental stage or socioculturalenvironment.E. The impairments in personality functioning and the individual‟spersonality trait expression are not solely due to the directphysiological effects of a substance (e.g., a drug of abuse, medication) or a general medical condition (e.g., severe headtrauma).F. The individual is at least age 18 years.
TRAITS OF A PSYCHOPATH
psychopaths are born not made: this basically means there is a genetic difference between ‘normal’ people and psychopaths.don’t care about other people and how their actions may affect others, they will manipulate and use people with caring how this affects the other person.little to no empathy for others. they could kills your best friend and not care, they may understand what you’re feeling, but they can not actually feel those emotions themselves.good at planning and playing the part. psychopaths may not be able to fit into society in their own mind, may not feel anything for the people around them however to most people they are just like everyone else, because they know how to pretend, to put on the facade. they can mimic emotions, they can understand emotions enough to pretend they feel that way even if they don’t actually feel like that. they are good at planning so they are hard to catch, they are meticulous in their plans so as to not get caught.
TRAITS OF A SOCIOPATH
sociopaths are made not born. most people who suffer from sociopathy have suffered from psychological trauma be that from childhood abuse or trauma which makes it hard for them to function properly on society as a normal person.much more likely to form meaningful relationships with others, meaningful genuine, emotional relationships. HOWEVER forming relationships is still difficult and really only connect with like minded people, or people who show a bit more of an interest in them.impulsive and don’t plan ahead. they don’t think before they do things, their actions are not usually planned out, they don’t think about the consequences before they do things and a lot of the time their actions are a result of spontaneous anger or passion etc. its a lot emotionally fuelled.
QUICK RECAP
psychopaths tend to be born with the disorder, which can be related to biological/mental differences, for example in brain scans of normal brains vs the brain of a psychopath. sociopaths tend to have suffered psychological trauma during childhood or early teens. both show conduct disorder before the age of 15
psychopaths find it difficult and sometimes even impossible to form meaningful relationships with others, they can pretend, or play a part, however these relationships are usually for some sort of gain on there part. sociopaths have difficulty with relationships, however they still can form them more easily with like minded people.
psychopaths plan ahead, they way up the consequences in order to ensure they do not get themselves in danger, they don’t care about their people’s safety very much though. sociopaths are impulsive and act without thinking, usually influences by strong emotions like anger.
if you don’t give a shit about the digger part of this and just wanted to know the difference between a psychopath and a sociopath then you can stop reading now lol its all digger from here on out
digger is for sure someone who suffers from antisocial personality disorder, he pretty much falls under all the points.
he is manipulative, deceitful, callous, hostile, irresponsible, impulsive, takes risks, and all these things are consistent over time, they are not normal for his culture and they are not a result of other psychology disorder or a medical condition oh...and he is over 18.
how is he a sociopath over a psychopath?
he suffered trauma as a child, he did have conduct disorder. he has formed meaningful relationships, genuine ones, he doesn’t really imitate or fake feelings, he is a lot more emotional than perhaps a psychopath truly is. he is extremely impulsive, he doesn’t really plan ahead. while he LACKS empathy and remorse it isn’t to a point where he doesn’t feel it all together, he has shown remorse for certain things, he has shown guilt. (guys this is supposed to be the main part of the answer and I give this shit response....idk how much you know about digger and I don’t want to go on a tangent or sound patronising about him lol???)
#mental illness tw#and crap#lol this be my attempt at answering this question#ah#ask me questions if I confused you#or if you want to know#more bcos#this is very rushed#and not every indepth#but like its long af ya know#sooo#answered.x#out of boomerangs.x#anon.x#character shit#Anonymous
