to answer your curious question, i think i'm the most grateful for my hobbies!!!! specifically, writing, reading (romance novels in particular), singing, video editing, and playing video games!!!! i've talked about it sporadically on here but i'm currently out of school due to my depression and am going through esketamine therapy for it. needless to say, my hobbies are what's keeping me sane throughout this entire time, and are my sources of joy despite everything being so, so bleak and exhausting. i honestly think i wouldn't have lasted this long without these things that i love, and i'm really proud i get to say that i dabble in these activities and am (kinda) good at some of them (i did musical theater in college lmfao).

selly!!!! sorry it took me so long to get to this. i have no other explanation other than i was terrified by the prospect of writing for you and i wanted to do it well lmfao. that is, until i realized i'd never get this done if i kept thinking that way so i just said fuck it and wrote this before my therapy session. this kind of writing style is kinda new to me, but i hope you still enjoy it! thank you so much for playing and for being the trailblazer that you are <3 kisses!!!!

c.w. vague references to shouto's traumatic past. eeya once again deludes herself and roleplays as a therapist.

it’s times like these that shouto wishes he were different.

not that these types of instances were exactly rare. that is, instances in which he finds himself longing for a different set of circumstances—another set of cards to have been dealt with. less losing cards, if you will—cards you could actually work with to make a decent game.

a decent life.

although…he supposes it’s too late for all of that. twenty-five years have passed with no luck in erasing his past—in stubbornly willing a do-over—the reminders of his troubled familial history perpetually present in the form of no-nonsense headlines during anniversaries and detailed spiels that precede his introductions in interviews.

and though he’s learned that while blood may not be thicker than water, it’s still thick enough at the end of the day—enough to leave a stain in the canvas that he calls his life. a truth that he still grapples with to this day, perhaps a little more gracefully now that he’s making it a point to see his good friends regularly.

and his equally blunt yet well-intentioned mentors, like aizawa.

and his therapist, whom he’s been seeing a little less sporadically now, thanks to the behest of bakugou and midoriya.

but most importantly—

“todoroki-san?”

shouto’s gaze refocuses at the sound of his surname, and only then does he realize he’s been staring blankly at his fiddling thumbs on his lap.

the half-and-half hero straightens up, clearing his throat, letting his eyes land on the familiar middle-aged man sitting across the hardwood desk.

“what were you thinking about?” the doctor asks gently, his smile small. “just now?”

“nothing,” shouto retorts almost instinctively.

although when the man only shoots him a knowing yet somehow encouraging look, the pro-hero falters. “it isn’t anything important,” he adds.

“would you let me be the judge of that?”

shouto visibly hesitates, before ultimately shrugging in resignation.

he’s been doing this a lot these days—relenting—instead of putting up a fight.

“i was just thinking,” shouto starts quietly after a moment, tugging at the peeling skin at the side of his thumb, “about my life.”

the doctor hums. “therapy does have a way of making people do that.”

shouto chuckles weakly. the man smiles at him.

he takes that as a sign to continue.

“like i said, it’s kinda stupid,” shouto resumes, “but i was just thinking about my life, and how i’m doing pretty okay considering what i had to work with.”

“okay,” the man says, nodding. “but?”

shouto sighs. there it was. “but, i don’t know. i don’t think—i don’t think i’m doing enough.”

“of what?” the doctor asks without missing a beat, “hero work?”

“no,” shouto shakes his head firmly. he works too much as it is. “i meant i’m not doing enough for my girlfriend.”

“okay, and did she tell you that? explicitly? that you’re not doing enough?”

at that, shouto pauses, before shaking his head once again. “no. she-uh, she actually reassures me a lot. tells me i’m a great boyfriend, and all that.”

“so where do you suppose this critique is coming from?” the doctor queries, eyes downcast on what he’s jotting down on his clipboard.

“i—” shouto starts, “i don’t know, actually.”

“mhmm. is there a possibility that it’s coming from other people? like yourself?”

shouto cocks his head to the side at the suggestion. he hadn’t thought of that. he just always assumed that was true—that he was falling short somehow.

“falling short of what?”

shouto whips to gape at the doctor, who only stares at him expectantly. only then does the pro-hero realize that he just said that last bit out loud.

the bi-eyed male coughs awkwardly in instinct. “um–i’m not sure…people’s expectations of me, i guess?”

the doctor hums again. “in other words,” he enjoins, “you think people see you as better than you actually are?”

slowly, shouto nods. that sounds about right.

“does this feeling apply to your girlfriend, too? you mentioned she’s great at reassuring you. that must help with the feelings of being an impostor.”

“yeah, but it’s only because she’s incredible,” shouto finds himself admitting. “she’s the most amazing person i know.”

the man nods, clearly deep in thought, shifting in his seat. “i have a question for you, shouto.”

despite himself, shouto stiffens. still, he forces himself to answer. “okay.”

“and i want you to be as honest as possible,” the doctor continues, to which shouto can only nod reluctantly.

the doctor takes a deep breath.

“do you possibly deem yourself unworthy of your partner?”

Opening Pandora's Box by Nightowljane

This is a Gojo x Reader fic on AO3 in which both characters have a meaningful conversation about Gojo's and Geto's fallout (bisexual Gojo implied). It's a beautiful and quick read, I loved it with all my heart, the dialogue is incredibly well written, and God knows I'm a complete SUCKER for good dialogue.

2. The Ghost of You by Rampagescandal

This fanfic centers around Nanami's thoughts as he sits beside Haibara's lifeless body in Jujutsu High's morgue. I just discovered this gem today, and I'm ecstatic to recommend it (I'm still working on my comment on AO3, lol), and God knows how much I like reading stories about grief. First off: the MCR reference in the title? I mean??? I'M GOING TO CRY (I actually did while reading it). I don't want to spoil anything, but everyone is beautifully in character, and it addressed something I thought about for the longest time (how Nanami probably blamed Gojo to some extent when it all went down). It's a great and quick read, I highly recommend it.

3. Ikemen Kaisen by @rahuratna

If you wanted more filler episodes/chapters from JJK or are finished with the light novels but still need more canon-alike content, this is the one for you. While I was reading this, I actually felt like I was reading one of the light novels, and the characters depictions are so extremely on point — it still is, to date, my favorite fan depiction of Nanami ever. I mean, whoever follows me or has asked me about a fic I love has probably heard this already, lol. I also read this kicking my feet like a school girl. From their interactions to the world building, everything is just on point. Mwah, chef's kiss.

4. If art can be touched, will you let me hold you? by @seiwas

I read this in one go so fast. I'm so not normal about it. Firstly, the way the author weaved the motif all throughout the story was SO WELL DONE I could've wept, for real. Also, the parallels between sculpting, bread making and other things were amazingly well executed. This fic is on the very sensory side of things (at least for me), so it felt like I was reading living, breathing words — it feels alive. It's an amazing experience, and I'd totally read an entire book of this.

5. The widow's keeper by @pseudowho

I cried from beginning to end. I mean, is it possible to read it WITHOUT crying? If it is, please let me know. I'm very much someone who enjoys reading and watching media about grieving, so when this one appeared for me, it was an instant "yes sir please I want it". The most painful (and beautiful) thing about grief, at least for me, is the love that lingers on, and oh boy, it is beautifully woven into the story here. It's about guilt, grief, loss, and the life and keeps moving forward despite parts of the ones we still love being forever bound to the past. This one is also a must, do not skip it.

Fake Wedding Date Sakusa - i remember this was one of the first times i wrote for kiyoomi and also one of the first times in a while where my heart was actually racing as i was writing it LOL but seriously he is the blueprint for protective, attentive boyfriend

blood moonlit, must be counterfeit - don't get me wrong!! I like this fic, but writing it was kinda hard because it didn't come to me as easily as bakugo fics usually do. rushed romantic interactions without a lot of exposition aren't my forte, so cramming in a makeout session at the end felt off. but i'm glad everyone liked it nonetheless !

Most definitely No Prey, No Pay (opla!zoro x you) - this fic was when i really started liking writing banter and continuing the worldbuilding from the first fic was fun :)

Beach Day (End Game series) - i am sooo proud of this entire series but this chapter in particular is my favorite of all time. it felt like a perfect culmination of the romantic tension established thus far, and the implication of former pro!reader made it even sweeter

holy shit I Think He Knows - if you're a kiri lover you're literally going to adore this LMAO i actually really liked writing this concept and i was actually dying (/j) by the end of it

Seeing this fucker grovel after everything he put Majima (and Saejima. kinda? Maybe? I'm pretty sure he had a conspiracy going on with Ueno Seiwa to fuck Saejima over) through made me smile. GET HUMBLED

That.... came out of nowhere. Okay they did explain later that she looks like The Ex™ but I'm still like ????????? okay????? Sure?

.......how did they... on the roof??? huh??? You know what, I don't wanna know. Kuze got that motorbike into the sewers, why the hell not have this as well?

I've known this man for 2 minutes and I love him. GOAT. I want his lore. Give him a plate of soup and a billion yen.

Can I just say: I LOVED this whole interaction. And the fight. Minami's fighting style reminded me so much of Majima's Breaker and Mad Dog styles that I was just kind of smiling the entire time. Majima's boys seem to admire him a LOT. As in more than the average member admires their boss. I wanna see Majima and his men interacting more.

Hana has been... simply incredible this entire time. She has her shit together, she's handled Akiyama's bs well, she kicked ass and now she's setting healthy boundaries - and didn't let Akiyama talk her into staying. Such an all-around brilliant and HEALTHY character.
