SHANG TSUNG'S ISLAND

The island: absolutely breathtaking views. Tropical paradise. Various old structures and architecture of many many various eras and dynasties of China. Sometimes you can feel the island like it's alive....how ominous. Shang tsung says the island is in a realm of its own. A pocket dimension,not quite affected the same way as the realms it connects to. It sorta of is timeless,much like the man who rules it...still wonder what he means by this.

But overall it has lovely shores and beaches. Lavish courtyards and gardens. It has an upper courtyard,and lower. The Lower courtyard is mostly for guests,kombatants when there is a tournament,servents and guards. The upper courtyard is for me and shang tsung. He doesn't let anyone wander around in it unless he invites you. Which he does rarely.

The interior: the interior is traditional but has modern facilities. (Look shang is old but come on man!)

Tho he does have a traditional kitchen and a modern. But the modern one is his personal one near his living quarters. The rest of the inner palace is still got an old school vibe.

The inner palace/private living quarters:The bed chambers is lavish. Large. Silks,velvets,gold,red. *sigh* . Beautiful.

Shang's private kitchen,bathroom,hot spring,etc is all connected.

Armor/clothing:has beautiful armor and a ceremonial sword in his bed chambers too.

Some armor is for kombat. Some is ceremonial. Either way it's always beautiful to look at.

I too have lovely outfits. Aren't they great?

My magic apprentice outfit. Sorceress in training if you will. (Not exactly how i had it,but it was closest to i could find)

Shang and i (lady tsung) have snake rings. A pendent that helps my magic training. Master tsung has a snake flask(with what alcohol or its contents, i dare not ask him) and a dragon pipe for Tobacco(or other substances im sure).

Throne room:Shang tsung's throne room is also breathtaking. A Large room,holden dragons,the tournament master private dining room, a small courtyard next to it. Isn't it lovely?

I have been tagged by @lordbelacqua to talk about this gifset (thank you sm, I always wanted to make my own sort of gif tutorial hehe). Also, shout-out to lordbelacqua’s gifset here.

Since this is going to be long, I put everything under the cut.

planning: so since this is an inspired gifset, obviously the idea came from another post, this one here and as you will see this post has an insp credit on its own, but the user changed their url so I had to do some search to find their gifset. anyway, it’s here. the first gifset includes the greek words ‘eros’, ‘philautia’, ‘storge’, ‘philia’ but you will notice in my gifset I have an extra word which is ‘agape’ (my personal favorite as a greek person), this extra word I saw from the second gifset. 

At first, I wanted to do this with #alina starkov from #shadow and bone, but I realized that the word ‘eros’, i.e. romantic love would go for #darklina, whilst ‘storge’, i.e. familial love, would go for alina and mal, and becaure of the ship wars in the fandom, I didn’t want to potentially attract haters from doing this. btw, someone else did this after I posted the yennefer gifset and I was really happy to see it, especially because they used many moments/relationships I had in mind, so shout-out to @darkstarkova for the gifset. 

anyway, I also ended up choosing yennefer because for me it just felt much more meaningful to do such a gifset for her, since she has so much love to give and so few chances to do so. I also wanted to do right by it and use quality frames, so I went the extra mile and downloaded higher quality episodes. then I had to choose the shots that would work. some of the words, like “eros” and “storge” and “agape” I already had an idea what they would be, but for the words “philautia” and “philia” I had to fast-rewatch some episodes again. long story short, I first planned to blend this gifset for “philautia”, i.e. self love:

but then I rewatched the scene at the end where yennefer burns it all and as she was remembering all the times she’d been abused and maltreated, I teared up (I always do) and that scene just felt much more powerful to me, because it was then that she truly accepted herself and “let her chaos” be unleashed. 

giffing: to sharpen my gifs, I used the light sharpening action from this post. for the coloring and blending I’ll use the first gif as an example, but more or less, I didn’t follow any specific color palette, but went with what looked nice and what didn’t. so at first I had this gif: 

after I finished staring at this (took me a few minutes), I actually focused on the coloring. so first I used a curves layer and chose the light and dark areas (left pic below). Basically you choose the marker in the yellow circle to choose the lightest spot on yor gif, and the marker in the dark circle to choose the darkest spot respectively. I also play individually with the greens, blues and reds (right pic below) until I get a lighting base that I like:

Now at this part I usually just add a levels and brightness layer to further enhance the light and dark spots. At this point the gifset looks like this: 

personally I didn’t like the red tint on their faces and the cyan tint on geralt’s hair, so I used a selective color layer and turned up the cyans in the reds and turned down the cyans in the cyans like below. I also turned down the yellows in the cyans but I see that this didn’t change much, so it’s something I simply forgot to turn back to normal. 

I also added a color balance layer. With this I usually increase the blues, the magentas and cyans for midtones, shadows and highlights. So now: 

At this point, I add a gradient map layer in b&w, right-click on it, select ‘blending options’ and turn it to soft light, then play with the opacity if necessary:

Usually this is where my coloring ends, but I still didn’t like the result so I played around some more and ended up adding a second gradient map layer in b&w, left it at normal blend mode and turned the opacity down to 47%. So this is what I have finally:

So then I colored the second gif similarly and blended it in. For blending gifs, I follow this tutorial here. So now I had this:

As you can see, the coloring and light of the blended gif doesn’t match the base gif. Adding a similar second gradient to the blended gif didn’t really work nice. Then I decided to turn it b&w with a simple black and white layer and voila, the result just clicked. 

For the text I downloaded various fonts from here. So the title line “eros” is in the Bellerose font and the rest are in the Avenir font from here. I used the gradient text effect described here for the title line. And as for the second subtitle text, I simply opened “blending options” again, set the fill opacity to 0 and used a white stroke of size 1 px. Final result:

For the rest of the gifs I did similar coloring and blending.

arranging: To arrange, I simply play around with what looks good. The size I used is 540 x 450, because in the first gif I needed yennefer’s dark hair to take quite a large proportion of the gif, so that I could place the blended gif on (it does not show on light areas), so this determined the dimensions for the gifset. 

posting: I always “save as draft” before I post any gifset because I want to make sure all gifs play out correctly and also I want to see if the mobile app shows them correctly as well. So after I verify this, I add the caption and I search the necessary blogs to tag to spread awareness. 

I’d say it is my most quality gifset yet and I am kind of proud of it :)

How nice of Kodaka to finally release the “Kaz & I are canon” update even if it’s only in island mode /hj (My editing’s shitty but I wanted to be a bit self-indulgent)

Slightly over 50% of the Remembrance mode of 13 Sentinels and decided to make a relationship chart, partially because I wanted to sort out some info for myself and partially just because I could.

In summary, the complexity of the web is impressive, especially since the story is really good and each of the character relations bring something different to the table. Chart and thoughts below the cut.

Chart is made of all 13 main characters + Okino. I’m not counting Ms. Morimura or Chihiro as Iori, just the teenage version of her and her dreams/alternate timelines. However, I am counting Shu Amiguchi as Ida Tetsuya because Shu dreams of being him and I haven’t gotten to a part that explains what the exact difference between them is.

First, an explanation of the legend. Green = friends, pretty self explanatory. Pink = crushes and romantic interest, short or long term, and the arrows indicate direction (since there’s quite a few that don’t appear to be requited). Some of them have question marks to indicate either uncertainty that it’s a crush or if I doubt the sincerity (specifically Okino wrt Hijiyama). My “knows” category is somewhere above “knows X character exists” but below friends and was involved in the other character’s story somehow. Blue = works with in some way, mainly SIU or the sentinel project stuff.

Juro and Iori had a whole bunch of connections, which I expected since they seem to be the main main characters (given the box art and the order the characters are introduced in). Looking at this, I was surprised at the number of connections Kisaragi has since she doesn’t seem like that main of main character. Amiguchi and Okino also have lots of connections to other characters (having Amiguchi = Ida bumps his count up, which would also happen to Iori if I counted her as Chihiro and Morimira).

Looking at the pink lines around Amiguchi is kind of amusing because he’s in a love triangle line. Ryoko is crushing on him while he’s pining after Yuki. I’m intrigued with his/Ida’s relationship with Kisaragi because it’s like it took place in a parallel universe, where teenage Ida and Ogata switch roles.  

I made a previous post where I said Miura/Natsuno was my favorite ship so far. I think they have good chemistry so it made me excited to see that they *were* dating in the 22nd century. And through all the time shenanigans they only have eyes for each other. They’re one of the few sotuations that’s mutual otp material right there. Total cutiepies

For a while, I thought Ei had a crush on Ryoko and that’s why he wanted to protect her and was upset with Ida, but then he said something about “big sister” so I didn’t add that to my chart. Curious to find out more about those two.

Okino and Gouto are curious because we see them in the background of lots of other characters’ routes, but Gouto’s is locked for a large portion of the game and Okino doesn’t have a playable story (fun fact: gouto was literally the last character i unlocked, only for him to be closed off to me immediately). Despite that, Okino has a lot going on. Okino teases Hijiyama a lot, but I can’t get a good read on what he really feels about him. The character summary says he’s using how Hijiyama feels about him/Kiriko to manipulate him, but it’s possible he could have non ulterior motives. Not enough info. Something’s fishy about how important to the story he is, yet isn’t one of the main characters (makes me think he’s an antagonist or main villain). I want to know more!!

Hijiyama is interesting given his lack of connections. He turns into a sort of sidekick for Okino but hasn’t interacted with Miura in 1985 and only had a passing interaction with Ei, who did most of the talking with Okino. The absence is particularly intriguing since the player has to get at least 8 players to 80%. Which maybe means he interacts with more characters or his story is dependent on later actions. I lean towards the latter since no one seems to know who he is in the tutorial Destruction battles. (where he also kept quiet about Okino at his request)

How Persona 5 Got Me Out of My Gaming Slump

Persona 5: Rio Drift.

I have a very bad habit of getting into a game, or a game series, or fine, yes, anything BioWare, and then not coming back out for quite a while. When I’m done with one game I get nostalgic and replay another one, and it’s a vicious cycle. When I saw this thread on Persona 5, it was like the universe shoved the game at me and said, “Here. This is your jam. Please give Dragon Age a break for two weeks that’s all I’m asking”.

So, not wanting to let the universe down, I gave it a shot. It turns out that a lot of the things that I love about the BioWare games crop up in other games too. Sort of like these things are indicative of rich gameplay experiences or something. Absolutely wild. Full disclosure, I have never played any of the other Persona games, and may do something when I get my hands on a copy at some point.

In this iteration, our mostly unnamed protagonist gets himself into some trouble and gets shipped off to a new guardian and a new high school. No good deed goes unpunished, as they say. He and his new friends discover the Metaverse, a world where desires and vices can be manifested into Shadows and Palaces.

First, because even if I don’t know my audience I sure know myself, let me be absolutely clear that there is romance in this game. It is painfully straight (Ryuji, my goof-off fashion icon fave, may some mod out there give you the smooches you deserve), which I consider a heads up and not a spoiler. The main character is a dude, and all of the possible love interests are delightful even if not always appropriate*.

I love them.

Now that that’s out of the way, the rest of this review is in no particular order. Game-play was fairly intuitive, in that I didn’t completely forget what I was doing after setting the controller down for a few days. Things are pretty clearly labeled or explained memorably. The fusion system seemed clunky and excessive but, while I’m sure I didn’t make the best choices or utilize the fusions to optimal pairings, with a bit of experimenting it made a bit more sense. I get attached easily, so once I found a fusion that I really liked and maxed out, it was hard for me to swap them out for something else. There’s a story mode (safety) which gives you a do-over if you die in combat. This is delightful if you don’t fancy the idea of dying within sight of your next checkpoint/safe room. Otherwise there’s the typical easy, normal, and hard. If you’re feeling very frisky, there’s also a ‘merciless’ difficulty that you can find via a free DLC.  

Speaking of not making the best choices or utilizing things to their maximum potential, the confidants were sort of amazing. I love them all. One of my absolute favorite tropes is found family and Persona 5 has it in spades. An absolute cast of misfits and dreamers pit against society wanting to grind them down.

Honestly, one of the best tropes. Six of Crows, Dragon Age (okay, a lot of BioWare actually), One Piece, and other stories like that just always get me right in my feels.

Mini-games or stat-building exercises are always a good time for me, as long as there’s variety, and there sure is variety here. Be it doing laundry to clean up some found gear, hitting the batting cages (so to speak) to raise proficiency, or browsing shops in Shinjuku, there’s fun to be had just in exploring the world. Unfortunately you only get so much time a day, and while you can eventually stay out a bit later and get some help so you can multitask, it just seems like a lot of time is spent waiting to go to bed. It would have been nice to be able to spend a little of that before sleep time confined to your room but still able to read, or even a mini-game that didn’t raise stats. I understand wanting to keep your system balanced, but having to hear that I’m too tired to do anything, or being yelled at by my cat to go to sleep, sure gets old. (I already get yelled at by my real life cats enough as it is.)

The soundtrack is top notch, and vocalist Lyn has some catchy tracks that are perfect for staging your own heists a run around the neighborhood. Shoji Meguro is an absolute master at mixing the high energy music one would expect of a flashy heist with calm, walking around the rainy city music. That’s pretty much all I have to say on that part. Catchy as heck. Nobody will know if you’re pretending to be a Phantom Thief in your head.

The art, likewise, is gorgeous. It’s interspersed with anime quality cut-scenes (and indeed, there’s an anime prequel and series to be found as well), and the character splash screens are delightful. I hadn’t been paying attention to the fact that it was an Atlus (and P Studio) game going into it, but the minute I saw the MC straight-on I recognized their animation style.

One thing that could really go either way is the framing narrative. I love a good framing narrative, and this works as an in media res start to the game while also providing a fairly solid, narratively appropriate tutorial level. It can, if you’re new to the series, require a lot to be taken on faith. It answers many of the questions eventually (while raising a few more, naturally), but compared with many games that provide an info dump at the beginning it can be a bit of a surprise. A welcome surprise, to be sure, as I was immediately hooked by both our MC and Sae Niijima.

Go get ‘em, Tiger!

Overall, I realize people tend to like hard numbers and ratings so I’ll say it’s an 8/10 from me. It loses a full point for the unnecessary homophobia, and another for general mechanics that tired me out. Otherwise, it’s a solid *expletive* game.

Persona 5 is available now on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. It was released September 15, 2016.

*Atlus has a history of iffy romance portrayal and a history of homophobic jokes and situations. Catherine was a game I love/hate played and has legitimate transphobic issues, which Persona 5 skips in favor of homophobic stereotypes. There is a bartender that shows up eventually that isn’t so cringey, but I can’t say the depiction does much to balance out the rest of the queer portrayals.

In other news, deleted Dance Trips coz their events, both the dance and cooking ones take far too much effort and time. And yeah, restaurant games just aren’t for me after all.

PrestaShop is an immensely feature-rich, free, open-source e-commerce solution which you can use to run stores in the cloud or via self-hosting. It's currently used by 250,000 shops worldwide and is available in 65 different languages. Although it takes a bit of work to get a store launched, I'm impressed with what the platform offers.

PrestaShop's business model rests on selling services for commercial partners to its customer base, including optional add-on features and themes. This seems to allow it to offer a sophisticated e-commerce option for anyone interested in selling digital or physical goods online.

PrestaShop is fairly easy to use, provides a powerfully responsive store interface for shoppers, offers a comprehensive set of features, and it's free. If you'd like a quick look, explore the PrestaShop demo store, which includes both a front-end store and a back-end management dashboard. In the end, I actually preferred the ease of use and simplicity of other specialty t-shirt application vendors. PrestaShop offers a WordPress-like web interface with far more sophisticated capabilities regardless of what kind of product you wish to sell.

Cloud or Self-hosting: You can sign up in minutes for a free store in the PrestaShop cloud or you can download the open source PHP code and host it yourself.

Templates: Similar to Envato's ThemeForest, PrestaShop sells a variety of high-quality themes to professionally customize your store.

Store Builder: With a WordPress-like dashboard, PrestaShop offers a feature-rich store construction interface, including detailed product listings, navigation and search.

Shopping Cart: PrestaShop integrates with a variety of payment providers, major shipping carriers and tax rules.

Mobile: PrestaShop's responsive stores and checkout systems make it incredibly useful. Even its back-end dashboards are responsive for on-the-go management.
