no because when you take away katniss and peeta's love story katniss's choices make no sense or are transformed into something they're not. everything starts for prim but she didn't almost kill herself with the berries for prim. it was for peeta. how do you make sense of the quell, and everyone protecting peeta if you don't get that yes, katniss does love him and will not cooperate if his protection is not guaranteed. there is no consistency in their story. and then there's the fact that the main motivator in katniss accepting the role of the "mockingjay" is, again, peeta's rescue and safety. a movie is a movie and it's different tool for storytelling but a good adaptations works with the book not against it.

irt “wanting to learn everything” as performative— it feels like it comes down to semantics. we as human beings can only do so much, we can only learn so much; what’s performative about saying you want to expand your horizons? to learn as much, even everything, that you can? Is the issue just vocalizing that you want to “learn everything”? To figure out if you really are into something or not you still have to go out of your way to do learn at least a little bit. I think that to take issue with people saying they want to learn everything and expand their knowledge is ultimately anti-intellectual and, frankly, taking your fellow human being a bit too literally. I truly wish I could learn everything but the human condition limits me— but learning about things I ultimately don’t care about will never be a regret, because why should it be?

You echo my exacttttt thoughts about this! I also understand, so fully and so truly, that there’s a lot of frustration to be had about people only interacting with things superficially — but beyond blaming people for wanting to live in “aesthetics,” can we start blaming phone addiction, the cutthroat work hours, the education systems that dissuade us from being anything more than workhorses, the generational trauma?? Yes people can be to blame for only wanting to do certain things for clout, and we should blame them — but let’s also start investigating the environment surrounding how my generation operates. Like there is a lot of reasoning beyond nature lol. My unpopular opinion is people’s version of “subverting” these things in this present day can itself be shallow and performative. I don’t like how we are all so predisposed to attacking each other first, and then attacking unfair circumstances long after, if ever. Let’s be more fair & more compassionate !!

so the premise of this thing was that lwj met a charming peasant named wei ying in caiyi and quickly started a little affair with him and then a hot dangerous sect leader of the yiling sect showed up to court him so I suppose the dual identity thing was the draw and I was kind of excited for it but it just wasn't excucuted very well? obviously lwj was like 'I'm not going to marry this guy because I already love wei ying' and the author's attempts to convince us that the yiliing laozu was starting to grow on lwj failed imo bc lwj clearly resented the yllz for his offer and had zero intention of ever accepting his offer but he was concerned for the sect's reputation because he liked the yiling disciples but then AFTERward he says he was in love with both which like ???? he thought yllz was hot and a little misunderstood but there was NOTHING like the chemistry between him and wy

but in literally chapter 3 (we're on 5 now) the truth came out and obviously lwj is horrified about being deceived, cuts it off, etc. well wwx said sorry a bunch so in the end they got back together and now they're wedding planning and I complained a lot about wwx being a shitty guy earlier but I kind of miss it because this is one of the most boring things I've ever read...I guess wedding planning would be exciting if you're enthusiastic about the characters and the relationship but it just didn't do it for me. which is wild bc the chemistry between lwj and 'peasant' wy was SO good
