So in between benches, striping trim, estimates, and CAD I’ve been picking away at refinishing and repairing this table. . Now I thought this fade effect on the veneer was achieved by putting the dark portion of the piece in hot sand. Essentially a controlled burning. But as I stripped the shellac away with denatured alcohol it left me with the second picture. Very glad I was wise enough to leave one side for reference. . After searching around on the internet and finding nothing on how to achieve this effect I just went for it whit two colors of shellac (one dyed) and it looks like it will turn out pretty good!
