The Youkai of Boundaries, Yukari Yakumo~

It's been a while since I drew (and posted any art on this blog for that matter), and I was in a mood to draw Lady Yukari, to the surprise of absolutely no one!

You are glad Lady Yukari made it so that this is what typically comes online first. It usually gives you something to look forward to. Though it would perhaps be nicer to be able to see or move first. However, you know from experience that these are some of the more difficult parts of a shikigami to make work.

In place of this there used to be a gap connection to the outside world. Lady Yukari called it a "Load Bearing Coconut", even though it was clearly connected to a rock. However, it apparently shattered last year, which of course caused practically everything to either malfunction or break completely. This is a replacement she made. This increased loading time, as did all the previous band-aid fixes over the last several centuries.

Your eyes are very dry, much like every morning. They open automatically when you first awake, but you can only blink voluntarily. Not an urgent fix, since this cannot cause you any damage, it's just unpleasant.

For the time being, you are stuck staring at the ceiling. Yukari told you once that body motion and eye motion are controlled largely separately in humans, but this is not the case in your body. You cannot move your eyes until the bodily output bus comes online.

At long last. You blink and rub your eyes in an attempt to get rid of the dryness. You finally sit up. You get up from your bed.

What is this gap for, in any case?

You should probably start going about your day.

You look around your room for what might be your hairbrush. None of your visual processing modules are on yet, and so identifying objects is difficult. Also, your left eye is taking a while to start working. Nevertheless you find what you figure is a brush - it is about the correct lenght, has one thinner part that may be a handle, and a wider part bearing what might be the hairs. Using the same memorized motions you've used for centuries, you brush your hair.

Maybe you should leave your room. Might be good to try to cook something, or if your object identification processing module isn't on yet by then, maybe get a drink.

You walk towards what seems like a door. You look over it to make sure it is not your closet door. The shape of the handle seems right for the one you are looking for, so you start walking towards it.

[FIXUP_OVERHAUL_v0.99: On]

Suffering a momentary lapse of consciousness, you crash right into the door, and fall onto the floor.

This was an attempt of Lady Yukari's to eventually replace all the overly big "fixup" modules with some more streamlined implementation. This giant module, currently attached somewhere around the other fixup and motorics modules, is the result. Frankly, you would be better off without it.

You get back up and open the door.

Took a while. You walk out of your room and head to the kitchen, using your mental map of the house, walking carefully, since your ability to notice obstacles by sight is still impaired.

You enter what you're fairly sure is the kitchen. Probably best you do not cook just yet. You remember Yukari recently purchased some outside world drink. You could try that, to pass the time.

It is bottled, so you look for a bottle, and a glass to pour the drink into. You find objects identifiable as such.

You pour yourself a glass. Isn't this smell strange? You take a sip..

You spit it out. This is vinegar. This was not the right bottle.

You hear a sound behind you in the kitchen. Laughter?

You look in the direction of the sound. The source of it is some sort of person. You cannot tell apart faces yet, but they are wearing one of Yukari's dresses and have blond hair, and so you easily conclude this is probably Lady Yukari.

YAKUMO YUKARI - [Unintelligible]

You cannot yet process speech, so you don't know what she is saying.

YOU - "I'm sorry, Lady Yukari. My auditory processor is not on yet, and so I cannot understand you."

The person you presumed is Lady Yukari laughs again.

You sigh.

You used to be able to do a lot of this processing with the core soul alone, didn't you? Has your core just lost its functions, as it could rely on all the auxiliary processors?

Not that it matters.

You come back to the stove to cook breakfast for yourself, Lady Yukari and Chen. By the time you are done, most modules should be on.

sometimes yukari permits ran to temporarily develop an understanding as to what her personality used to be like, primarily for the idle fun of watching her run around in a headless panic, collapse dead-eyed to her knees, etc. it gets boring pretty fast though so she generally only gets to retain this sense of perspective for about half an hour

(Sorry this took so long guys, thank you for waiting and I hope you enjoy it)

. Yukari is... a weird one. She is fairly whimsical in her attitude and behavior. Sometimes she’s carefree and energetic; other times she is lazy and just wants to lie down. Despite her laziness, if you're the lucky someone to marry this sage, she will always set aside time for you, or she’ll just drag you into the bed with her if it's one of those days when she just wants to sleep; don't bother getting up. Her grip on you while asleep is firm, and if you do manage to sneak out, She'll move her arms around for a bit, and when feeling the empty space, she'll grumble and just gap you back into the bed and then use her legs to entrap you more. Honestly, sleeping with her is how a decent chunk of time will be spent since she enjoys it so much while sleeping with you. Normally She sleeps on a futon, like most people in Gensokyo, with a few exceptions. However, if you prefer a normal bed, like ones from the outside, she is willing to gap in the bed you had or gap you into the outside so you can buy one, or she’ll just steal one.

. Just because you’re human doesn't mean she looks down on you; this also applies if you're a lower youkai since if she wanted, she could’ve had a stronger partner, and she makes this clear if you’re feeling insecure, not to imply she can replace you, but that you were special to her and caught her attention enough for her to stay awake and spend time with you, also because she hates those who brag or gloat about their power; she can’t stand them. The more mundane or normal you are, the more likely she is to be interested since she wants a partner who is used to living a more normal life, one not invested in the external or internal politics of Gensokyo. She understands the importance of her roles and actions. Still, sometimes she just wants a break from all of it and to zone everything out by lying down with you and just hearing you talk and keeping her updated with what’s relevant in the village or the outside world, something more normal and less chaotic for her to digest and enjoy for the evening as you hold her.

. She does introduce you to the other sages at some point, although it will never be during another meeting since she doesn’t want to involve you in one of the many aspects of her work life. For the most part, the other sages are respectable, although this doesn't mean they hate you or think you don’t belong. It’s…just awkward for them since they usually don’t discuss much besides business or issues relating to Genokyo, although after some effort you're able to get along with them. If you're from the village, you might even be invited to give more insight if a relevant issue relates to the village.

. Yukari has a habit of dragging you along with her whenever she wants to travel around or just roll the dice and gap to a random place(much to your horror when she accidentally gaps both of you into a dangerous situation.) Usually, it’s to visit Reimu or Yuyuko and hang out with them for a while (or harass if you ask Reimu while hogging the Kokatsu). Reimu and Yuyuko enjoy your guy's company but just act annoyed. Yuyuko and Yukari have been friends for a very long time, and chances are Yuyuko acted as a matchmaker for both of you once she saw that the two of you were compatible (poor Youmu had to cook so much for both of you to have an excuse to sit in the same room and talk to each other). Reimu also kind of helps play matchmaker, but she plays it straight and gently but firmly tells you guys how to solve some issues you may have in your relationships since, despite how old Yukari is, she hasn’t ever been in a relationship with a person, and if you ask her about this, she’ll get flustered and loudly exclaim that she, the “great Sage of Gensokyo, has been in many relationships with many suitors, although you and Reimu know this is a lie as you stare blankly and unamused at her. Both know this is her first intimate connection with a person. 

. Yukari genuinely loves you with all of her heart, but she is worried about you, and she grows more and more anxious as the relationship goes on. One concern she has shortly after the relationship begins is mortality if you’re a human; she wants to enjoy every second she has with you if you’re a human, although if you’re comfortable with it, she is willing to use her border manipulation to extend your life or just outright make you immortal (at least from age). If you say yes, she’ll be ecstatic knowing you’ll always be by her side for all of eternity or until she's ready to find her peace in the world.

Yukari could've chosen so many others but she chose you, she is loyal, she is powerful, terrifying, and everywhere, but you a normal human, outside world or from the village, normal youkai or powerful youkai she loves you for who you are, she doesn't care if you have all magic or no magic she just wants someone she can love, someone, to cuddle, to hold her while she sleeps, to watch Ran and Chen while she rests and help maintain Gensokyo’s order of balance. Yukari will always love you, and she always reminds you of that.

An evening drink with Lady Yukari~

gfdjifsdjfq another very self indulgent art of my self-insert (in my casual clothes this time!) and Yukari Yakumo! I think I may have made her a biiiit too tall, but I'm still happy with how it came out!

anyways, the idea was a nice evening drink with her so she can relax with her newest servant/shikigami, and i get to be rewarded for doing good work by relaxing with her (and getting drunk presumably because i'm bad with alcohol)

I should post more art here so here's my Touhou Project self-insert! Long story short, the scenario includes being kidnapp-- spirited away from the human village by Yukari, kept for a few months as a servant/entertainment with the intent of being eaten at the end of it because youkai are like that, but actually ending up gaining the Yakumos' affection and being properly and permanently taken in as a servant and part of the family. It's a very self indulgent comfort scenario of mine that's been running for several years (mostly through daydreaming and sometimes roleplays) and one of the things that keeps me going.
