March 2025 Shiny Hunting Challenge

Welcome to March 2025, when we hunt only shiny blue Pokemon for the entire month!

I'll just finish up a Smoochum hunt then we'll be on our way to paint the Pokemon canvas blue....

New Moon's hint brings a being that is usually scorned, feared, or loathed for the ability Bad Dreams- Darkrai! Depending on where you look, Darkrai is actually more of a tame Pokemon over something malicious. If ya know the latter though, no spoilers!~

Seriously though, Darkrai is such a cool Pokemon. To this day I am STILL shiny hunting it in BDSP... it's been a tad too long for my liking though, almost as long as my shiny Arceus hunt honestly. But if my memory serves me right, Darkrai doesn't mean to give bad dreams- that or it gives bad dreams just to get others out of its territory, I forget which one it was... eh, both work depending on the individual!

one thing i dont get about the "pokemon is made for 8 year olds, not 20+ year old fans" argument for why pokemon games are so easy and bad is like.... so is mario. so is kirby. so is zelda. so is splatoon. so is basically EVERY other nintendo franchise, but they don't seem to have this problem?? adult fans and children alike can both enjoy those games. i feel like this is an argument that just kind of excuses the terrible yearly release schedule and crunch the developers have to go through.

pokemon fans can be whiny and annoying dont get me wrong, but we fucking LOVE this franchise and just want to see it get better. the pokemon company unfortunately knows that the vast majority of the people buying these games are parents buying it for their children, and being the largest media franchise in the world, they know that they can get away with garbage.

Pokemon Moon: Made of Cheese

Beating the game under-leveled was too easy, I shiny hunted under-leveled too, got this beautiful lady after around ~250 tries

(Edit: if you're wondering why I have a different team now, this is the team that I use for the non-required battles so I can stay under-leveled.)

finally resubscribed to pokemon home subscription after having it a long time ago and then canceling it~~

I have half of the boxes full~~

mainly just a question aimed at myself but idk~~

thought about rifling through all of them to save the shinies and legendaries and getting rid of everything else to start over with scarlet and violet~~

(also wanted to restart violet to replay it again but almost the entirety of the pokedex is done :( screw the pokedex and start over cause I want to? or don't start over at all? I can probably do it all again~~ just save the shinies and what legendaries I have I guess~~)

boxes are mainly filled with random stuff, almost an entire box of shinies from my shiny hunting in sun, moon, ultra sun, ultra moon and pokemon x, and those hunts were a while ago.... no lets go ones I don't think. lots of oshawott and eevee so bet I can guess what younger me was hunting when I actually was shiny hunting.

If I do the latter, then what? thinking either monotype psychic or fairy~~ but idk...

idk what type I'm best with... might realistically irl be a normal type trainer if pokemon existed irl.... I'm pretty average, lol

how do you choose a type to monotype?

tho I did (when I used to pokegen and hack gen 4 games) crush cynthia's team in platinum with lucian's team~~ but I just copied and used his team~~ doesn't mean I'm good with the psychic type, lol

idk what type I'm good at playing with~~ rip

what are the rules for terastralization anyway? if I do a monotype can I use the pokemon if it's tera type is the type I'm soloing the game with? gym leaders do that...

also found an app to help with shiny hunting but you need an account for it? why??? I'll just use a random counter app I downloaded a while ago just for this purpose, lol. cause the other one that I was using for shiny hunting stopped working a long time ago...

but usually I don't count my hunts, I just go until something shines~~

Welcome to April 2025! We shall honor the new song of life by hunting shiny fossil pokemon! Starting with the archen line because I missed it in Pokemon GO and I am NOT salty about it. Not at all, why would you think that

Well!!!!! It's a good thing I decided to stick with the m Meowstic outbreak actually because not only did I get three (THREE) shinies out of it I. Haven't seen a Meowstic outbreak since 🧍

Another decent metaphorical nicotine patch is whatever Game Freak is calling Pokemon's Wonder Trade these days. Surprise trade I think?

Start the game, play normally, breed your starter, trade the offspring. When you get something nice like a competitively bred pokemon or rare pokeballs, you can breed those as you see fit. When you ''lose'' and get not-very great pokemon, you're still doing good by cleaning up the odds for other people. And you can breed pokemon just by fiddling with the game while watching tv or similar, so the only thing you're spending is time, which you can double up on.

And you *will* eventually get shinies (legit and hacked), witty nicknames, rare and powerful pokemon out the ass, legendaries, aesthetically pleasing pokeballs, etc. because you're just rolling the die that many times. If the value of your "wager" doesn't feel like enough, you can grind for held items to give the 'mons you breed, give them clever nicknames, breed multiple generations to get a perfectly statted 'mon in a fitting pokeball; there are a lot of ways to up the value of what you put up for trade.
