Shiny Toedscool Line

Violet - December 10th 2023

I got sick of trying to spot Shiny Flabebé in outbreaks because my vision is bad apparently and went off to hunt these two instead! I used some Herba Mystica and was just barely able to find them both with one sandwich!

I have two shiny toedscool from a mass outbreak. I got lucky and found two shiny toedscool and was going to evole one. But then an outbreak of toedscool happened-so why not hunt for the other. It was a pretty quick hunt and now I'm thinking to just give away the extra one.

for some reason there doesnt seem to be any official toedscruel plushies, so i made my own! (hes shiny bc i have a shiny toedscruel ex card c:)

Review shiny toedskool line?

Toedscool: Monotone shinies for Pokemon whose original designs weren't monotone aren't terribly common, mostly because it removes any contrast the original design might've had. That said, it does work really well here; partially because the design was very simple to begin with and partially because there are dozens of white mushroom species, which makes it work on a conceptual level as well.

It also helps that the shiny stands out a lot from the original due to the loss of pink and yellow, making it easy to snap identify. The subtle use of grey (hard to see in the above image, but trust me, it's there) also helps prevent details like the spots getting lost.

Toedscruel: I kind of would've liked to see Toescruel keep the monotone white, both because it looks good and because it works conceptually; plus it would be a bit more consistent, as the regular forms share a palette (minus the addition of black on Toedscruel). However, this shiny still looks pretty good; it's once again easy to tell apart from the original, and pink and black always look good together.

My only nitpicks are that I wish the tip of the mouth was white, as all of the pink areas on the original became white except for that one single spot. Also, I kind of wish a slightly lighter pink had been used for higher contrast with the black areas, maybe just fading into the neon hot pink towards the tips of the legs, as this feels just a smidge eye-strainy to me. Regardless, some pretty good shinies overall, with Toedscool being the better of the two.

I've been attempting my first every shiny badge quest in pokemon violet the last few days, with the extra challenge of all the gyms requiring pink shinies to advance and all the titans and star bases requiring regular shinies and so far its going pretty well
