swords-before-words:
He looked confused when she asked him about the flight obviously and even more confused when she mentioned being at the airport. But he took it in stride, even politely asking her how her flight was instead of running away from her.
His laugh was nice, warm, rich, soothing, and it pulled a smile from her. “It was fine. A little bit of turbulence, but not the worst flight I’ve been on.”
Good, you answered the question normally, she mentally patted herself on the back. Now keep your mouth shut.
Micah kept her tucked into his side as the conversation continued. Aurora couldn’t help but wonder if their paths would cross if he would be around more this summer. It seemed like he was quite friendly with Micah and Fi so it wasn’t impossible. She would really need to get her shit together if that was going to be the case.
Fi seemed delighted when he said he’d be there all summer.
“That’s wonderful news! It’s been ages since we’ve had more than a week or two with you,” she gushed.
“You’ll have to come to the gym with me and Isha. You too, little bear,” Micah added looking down at her. “Need to make sure you haven’t forgotten everything I taught you.”
Ro laughed and shook her head. “Not a chance. I was sore for weeks after last time. I’m here to relax and get some sun. Not all of us need to jacked for our day job.”
His chuckle rumbled through her. “We’ll make a stuntwoman out of you yet.”
She scoffed.
“Speaking of stuntwomen, where’s m favorite one?” she asked, grasping at the chance for an exit.
“She was just in the kitchen,” Micah reported, earning him a glare from his girlfriend that Ro didn’t totally understand.
Yes, an out.
“I should go say hi. It was nice meeting you,” she said to Jake. “If you’ll excuse me.”
She used every ounce of self-control she possessed to not sprint from the room. One she made it out their line of sight, she did bolt straight for the kitchen where she found Isha making a drink. Her future sister-in-law beamed when she saw her.
“Ro! You’re up. Come here,” she grinned, opening her arms wide for a hug. “Oh it’s so good to see you.”
She pulled her in tight rocking them back and forth in excitement. Ro hugged her back just as tightly.
“It’s good to see you too.”
“Why are you all flushed and out of breath?” she asked, concerned by her friend’s appearance. “Are you drunk already?”
“I wish,” she groaned. “No, I’m sober. I’m just mortified.”
“Why what happened?”
“I just made an ass out of myself in front of literally the most handsome man in the world,” she sighed. Before Isha could ask who precisely she meant, Ro continued. “By the way, was anyone going to tell me that you’re all apparently friends with Jacob fucking Collins. Fi introduced us and I sounded like a stalker asking him how his flight was when he had not mentioned being on a flight. Our friends did nothing to stop me from word vomiting at Jacob Collins. Who I want to reiterate is literally devastatingly handsome. Like how is anyone actually that good looking? It is so unfair and distracting. It should be illegal,” she huffed.
Isha’s expression should have clued Ro into the fact that they weren’t alone sooner. But Ro was on a roll until her friend made a “cut it” gesture below the counter and hissed her name that she noticed. The sickening realization of what her expression of second hand embarrassment could mean slammed into Ro and her whole body flushed in embarrassment.
She pinched the bridge of her nose, only peeking one eye open to see Isha’s response to her question. “He’s behind me isn’t he?”
Isha nodded, looking apologetic.
“Is that window unlocked?” she gestured to the small window above the sink. She could make it out if she really tried. But it might be a tight fit.
Anything would be better than having to face her celebrity crush of over a decade right now.
“Turbulance is never fun.” Jacob noted with a nod of his head before he turned his gaze back to Fiona.
“Don’t get too excited, Fi. I do have to train for most of the days But I won’t be going anywhere until September.” He informed before turning to Micah.
“Oh definitely!” He exclaimed at his suggestion, though he was a bit confused about Aurora being invited. He still couldn’t figure out who she was, and considering what she was saying, he could not figure out what she did for a living. Perhaps he had until September to figure that out.
Speaking of September, the actor could not hide the excitement in his face at the thought of it all. Though the news was not out to the public yet, he was going to be returning to film the season finale of the show that had given him his big break. He was going to reprise the role of the oldest Hartland cousin, a role so close to his heart that he hadn’t had the chance to play in over a decade. To say that he was thrilled about his character’s return to the show would be quite the understatement, but it sucked that he could not even tell his friends about it.
“You too, Aurora.” Jacob waved her off when she excused herself from the conversation and made her way over to the kitchen to say hello to Isha.
“So, this was who you wanted me to meet.” He remarked to a rather smug Fi, and then excused himself to grab himself another beer.
When he made it to the kitchen, the last thing he’d expected to hear was his name being said out loud in the midst of what seemed like a rant. And he would not have expected it from Aurora, who seemed a lot calmer to him just a few minutes ago.
Jacob was stunned as he stood by the threshold to the kitchen, briefly making eye contact with Isha as Aurora continued her rant. When Isha cut her off, he took it as his cue to walk over to the bridge and grab himself a beer, not really acknowledging what he had heard until Isha abandoned her friend and fled the scene.
Clearing his throat as he closed the fridge, he turned back to face Aurora. “Care to explain what I just walked in on?” He did not want to embarrass her by any means, but that did not mean that he was not intrigued by her. Everyone he knew seemed to be so fond of her, yet he had no clue how she was and how she’d managed to be at the same party he was at. And the actor was determined to find out.
