there is something so resonating about them not being able to be out to their friends, to the people around them. hirukawas slight comment that opened the door up, but being able to shut it again without exposing anything, with minase and their place in the social world safe. the toeing the water and retreating safely back because the water isn't always safe, and sometimes it won't ever be. it's heartbreaking, it's real. i do love the fantasy of other series, where either homophobia doesn't exist or is overcome by the Support of People Around. that bubble is fun and it can be so comforting.

but i rarely get to see this version of it, where you have to come to terms with that it isn't realistic in certain situations; situations you *will* be put in and *will* be choosing yourself. and it hits close to heart, it does, and that's not what you always want from a series. i resonate with it so much though. some people i love won't ever know that part of me and that is a sacrifice i am making, but something i rarely see discussed. i love it, and i do think it's a good ending for them. they have each other and their own spaces and moments, and that is wonderful.

I really really like the idea of the new inaele protagonist not being a player but as a manager-strategist because I like how it showcases another way of participating in the sport.
