AMOUNT OF SLEEP: I usually get a lot of sleep, I just get my sleep at odd times. Lately I’ve been busier than usual at my 9-5, so I’m awake those hours, but as soon as work lets out in the evening, I go to bed. Then I wake up somewhere between 1-3 AM.

LUCKY NUMBER: 3, 33, or 27 (which is 3 to the 3rd power). They were Nikola Tesla’s lucky numbers.

FAVOURITE SONG: Are you kidding me? Since I have to pick only one, for this unfathomably cruel and limiting inquiry, I will go with OMD’s “Red Frame, White Light.” But that’s just one of my all-time favourites.

FAVOURITE INSTRUMENT: Do you really have to ask?! It’s not like my blog isn’t already basically a shrine to synthesisers. I will say, though, that I love the sound of a good old-fashioned analogue synthesiser in particular, and I think it would be cool if more artists incorporated even older electronic instruments, like the hauntingly unique theremin.

AESTHETIC: I could tell you, or I could show you. Check out my other blog, @valerian-toyen, for a steady stream of pure aesthetic content. I like sharp and elegant designs, and prefer brutalism to baroque. But that’s not to say that traditional art doesn’t appeal to me--I love West African masks and the sculptures of the Cyclades and such things. Ultimately, I’m basically a goth, but industrial goth is a very different animal than traditional goth. I spend less time imagining myself as a vampire or ghoul, and more time pondering the mysteries of Frankenstein, and the atomic scientists.

FAVOURITE AUTHOR: The best books I’ve read recently were the Dune series of Frank Herbert. Don’t stop at just the first book--it’s the absolute worst book of the whole series, practically a joke in comparison to the scope of the whole thing. The series really gets at the very heart of the human experience, and asks us whether we can ever truly overcome the unfairness of our circumstances, and whether it’s worth sacrificing honour for comfort, or love for a greater good.

RANDOM: As a child, I used to leave plastic bottle caps on top of the exposed lightbulb of the lamp in my bedroom. I watched them slowly soften and melt in its heat, and then re-solidify into strangely organic, oblong shapes.

Totally unsurprised that Nim Vind is my top artist this year, I've been listening to Anthology 1 pretty much constantly since it released and I can't get enough of his music. For the rest though I've been going back to a lot of old favourites this year, kinda like a musical security blanket. MY FAMILY IS NOT DOING WELL!!

My 4-year-old sister is struggling with chickenpox with a weakened immune system and a stunted growth due to two years of malnutrition. She’s extremely traumatized and screams when she hears the slightest loud noise. My 17-year-old sister keeps fainting due to starvation and lives with constant headaches. My older brothers are mourning the loss of a close friend. My mother is sick, exhausted and breaking down. As for me, for a week I’ve been feeling extreme pain in my teeth and ears.

We spend hours at the market trying to find something affordable, negotiating to no avail. We spend hours walking around, trying to find a new apartment, because the room we live in is infested with rats and cockroaches that bite us, run over us when we try to sleep and contaminate the little food we have. But everything just costs too much. 1kg of sugar is $150. One 25kg sack of flour is $1,000, and prices keep rising, commissions too. Our current rent is $500 every month. We need help, we’re drowning here.

I know even outside of Gaza people are struggling and donating is hard. I swear I understand that and I’m not forcing you. But please, please just share if you see this post. There is someone out there who can help us and I just need help to reach them.

In Gaza, hundreds of thousands of parents are left speechless as they endure the countless atrocities inflicted upon their children. For many families, they lose their child before they even have the chance to truly know them—their dreams, their aspirations.

The Alamoudi family longed for a child for years. After enduring four grueling rounds of IVF, they were finally blessed with twins. But their joy was short-lived. As the war raged on, their baby, Ahmed, was born with urgent medical needs—holes in his heart requiring immediate surgery. On top of this, he suffers from nerve damage in his eye. Yet his parents are powerless, unable to seek the medical care he desperately needs, forced to watch helplessly as their child’s condition deteriorates by the day.

Imagine being a parent, filled with love and hope, only to realize that your child is being denied the medical attention they deserve because of an inhumane crisis. Ahmed’s father, Sharif, is unable to work overseas due to a herniated disc that causes severe spinal and nerve pain. As of this writing, their campaign has gone without donations for a long time.

Those heading to food distribution points often return in body bags.

Same concept:

People dying for a glimpse of hope and survival.

But the difference is — Squid Game was fiction.

In Gaza, the blood is real. The death isn't scripted.

Yesterday morning, my husband and one of our neighbors went to get a bag of flour. They found thousands of people there , then it started . The Israeli army started to shoot them randomly while they were trying to escape. Our neighbor was hurt and now he is in the hospital,we don't know what is going to happen with him 😞

Why does the Israeli occupation allow American aid into Gaza, but block most other forms of humanitarian support?

Because they don’t want us to live — just to survive.

They want us breathing, but broken. Alive, but only enough to suffer. So we can be bombed again. Hunted again. Forced to cling to the very aid that barely keeps our children alive.

Every day, one of us risks everything just to fetch food or clean water. A mother. A father. A brother.

They step outside for a bag of flour or baby milk — not knowing if they’ll return home… or become another name whispered in mourning.

This… is only a glimpse of what we endure in Gaza.

The world sees the headlines. But it doesn’t feel our pain.

And no one seems able — or willing — to stop those who keep killing us

Hunger is consuming us and our children.
