In seasons 11, 17, and 51 in your Neoworld AU, what would Maki and Kaede roles/game placements have been?

S 11: (the Ace Attorney one)

Kaede (SHSL Matchmaker) This season was full of camp and Kaede managed to survive this entire playthrough. She's great at pairing other people up, but has a history of terrible first dates herself. Rather than relying on evidence, she went on vibes, trusting her gut on people's character. She had an 80% success rate with this.

Maki (SHSL Convention-runner) Maki is an expert at wrangling nerds for a cause. She formed a gang of otaku that guarded all dangerous objects in the school. Slowly her army was chipped away and by trial 4 she was killed trying to keep the weapons locked away by herself. It took a while for the cast to realized her own hair was the murder weapon.

S 17: (jump the shark)

Kaede (SHSL composer) Kaede's actually competent in a few different instruments, she just prefers piano. People got to learn a bit more about her parents and their failed music career. Murderer for the 3rd trial, motive to not let her customers down (several people expected songs from her, she had to deliver!). Her execution is being forced to write music with a sword dangling above her head. A monokuma band plays the music live, the second she stops, the sword impales her.

Maki (SHSL caretaker) Mastermind time! The final courtroom is like a child's playroom. Her gimmick is talking down to them like children. Was extremely good at changing the subject when people started questioning how unfair this round was. Of course it was unfair, it was just to hard for them to play, and they refused to stop playing

S 51: (Ark 2, electric boogaloo)

Kaede (SHSL talent scout) would have been paired up with Kokichi (SHSL ???). She'd be all about trying to find his talent to help him and he'd be super worried abt being accused of being the traitor only to be put at ease the moment they meet Kibo. He does not have a talent. Kaede fully buys into the adam/eve concept and is heart broken to find Kokichi thinks it's a lie. Kaede dies in the 5th chapter.

Maki (SHSL Drill Sgt) was paired up with Rantaro (SHSL Beautician) killed him the second they were alone. Dude literally couldn't catch a break. Murderer for the 2nd trail. Execution set up like a firing squad only for the brick wall to crush her.

Tsumugi x SHSL Fictional Character Analyst headcannons

·       It was as if you were destined and made for one another. Just about everything about the relationship was perfect, even how you two met!

·       It was where any great romance would begin, at a con. Tsumugi was cosplaying Ginko from Mushishi, as well as you. You bumped into one another and Tsumugi saw your costume certainly had effort in it, but needed a lot of work, especially the white wig. She decided to help you since you were both cosplaying the same character and as she set to work you began to ramble on and on about Ginko’s character, specifically how he changed between the first episode and the fifth episode ‘The Traveling Swamp’ where his first shift in character began to take place with his thoughts on mushi and humanity. After that you were inseparable.

·       Your character analyses helped Tsumugi better her cosplays, getting a better understanding of the character as to become them better. In return Tsumugi taught you the wonders of cosplay, how to sew and make patterns.

·       Often the pair of you will lock yourselves away in one of your dorm rooms, picking which anime to watch. Once you choose an anime after hours of searching for one that you both find compelling, you watch. Then you watch it again. And again. And again. Very quickly the room is filled to bursting with notes on every last character. You and Tsumugi would go through frame by frame to find any piece of evidence to add to your theories or to get a better angle of certain outfits, so Tsumugi could make a proper pattern of a specific overly complicated costumes.

·       Since Hope’s Peak just cared about the cultivation of talents and not class attendants, more often than not you��d skip class and seclude yourselves in either one of your labs and work together.

·       You wound up becoming each other’s assistant.

·       You would go with Tsumugi shopping at fabric stores, searching down aisle after aisle for the perfect fabric. You could sew together simple pieces so Tsumugi could focus her time on the more complicated ones.

·       Tsumugi would help you take down notes, and to organize them. You tended to ramble; in fact, you could think better if you just spoke without thinking too far ahead, often accidentally making connections. Tsumugi would write down whatever you said so the two of you could search through it later and distill it down to the important points and connections.

·       Most date nights involved cuddling together and watching one of your favorite shows. Both of you were able to introduce the other to very old shows the other had not seen before. You once tried watching new shows for date night but halfway though the first season you were scribbling down notes at lightning speed while Tsumugi went searching through her fabrics, swearing she would have the perfect things for one of the character’s outfits.

·       The two of you nerded-out for hours on end without a care in the world. You often got so animated sometimes others would look on in confusion as you seemed to have the ability to keep talking without a moment’s pause to breathe. It was quite amazing actually.

·       The two of you were the other’s dream partner. You were able to help one another grow your own talents and gain new ones. You were able to be the other’s best friend. Neither of you could imagine having a better friend or partner.

it wouldn’t be fair not to also do a post about nanami, and i actually do have a lot to say about her. i’m going to have a lot more to say about her once we get to dr3, though, and for now i want to leave the dr3 stuff out of it. earlier i think i said i was unsure whether the dr3 reveal that there was a real living shsl gamer chiaki nanami who went to school with the rest of this group was a retcon or not, but i’ve looked it up since, and it is a retcon. (it’s a retcon i completely approve of and will defend, for the record, and i think i might actually have a bit more to say about this once we get into chapter 6, but that’s getting ahead of myself.) so this isn’t going to be about nanami (virtual) vs nanami (actual), we won’t be talking about nanami (actual) at all. Yet. It will happen

there’s something a little bit off about the way nanami is written. it can be hard to put a finger on, i think, because there are plenty of other characters being much more overtly weird at virtually any given moment — nanami actually tends to come off like the only sane woman a lot of the time. she’s the moral compass of the group, the voice of reason, the mediator, etc. on top of that, she’s a cute gamer girl who gets adorably excited over nerd shit, is kind to everybody but particularly close with the protagonist, dozes off a lot which i’m sure we all find relatable, sometimes does wacky things like eat glue off a door… my point is, nanami’s likable, she’s easy to trust, and she tends to come across relatively normal compared to the rest of the cast. there aren’t really any glaring red flags with her. and yet something is clearly Not Quite Right. i almost don’t know how to describe this except that to say that nanami feels curiously two-dimensional compared to the rest of the cast, like there just isn’t much to her. 

it makes sense in light of the reveal, of course, but before you know what’s going on it does create a strange impression. on the one hand, when it comes to the investigations and trials, nanami’s a big help and comes across as intelligent and levelheaded. on the other hand, in any situation less high-stakes than a murder trial, nanami spends most of her time dozing off and demonstrates a profound lack of knowledge about anything not directly pertaining to video games. and sure, it doesn’t seem weird that the shsl gamer acts neurodivergent about video games or that she’d be sheltered and awkward about relationships, but this goes beyond that — nanami doesn’t know milk comes from cows. she falls asleep standing up on a regular basis. whenever she talks about her life prior to the killing game it’s in the vaguest possible terms and it doesn’t even come across like she’s being evasive, it’s as if she literally has no backstory beyond “my dad was a programmer.” 

ages ago i remember reading some interview with kodaka where he said something to the effect of that when he wrote danganronpa, he wanted to avoid the common thing you see in detective fiction where certain roles in the story are filled by stock character archetypes — the tragic victim, the deranged murderer, the stoic detective, etc. — because if the characters are flat, their purpose in the story is obvious and the mystery is spoiled. he wanted the entire cast to feel well-rounded no matter what role they had to play in the story. overall i think danganronpa does well at this, even the more minor characters / those who die early on feel like they have some depth to them, and it makes the way nanami is written even more glaring. she’s not a minor character, she’s part of the main trio and plays a critical role in this game, so it’s strange that she feels like such a flat character compared to the rest of the cast. makes sense once you figure out she’s not real, though.

at this point, much like we haven’t gotten the reveal that they’re in VR, it has yet to be revealed that nanami is an AI, but i think this is the point where it becomes obvious to the player, if it wasn’t already. there really isn’t any other explanation for why she couldn’t tell them she was the traitor; she makes it clear she was unable to, and could only help hinata figure it out via implying it. in fact, looking back over how she’s behaved during investigations/trials throughout this game, nanami never directly solves the mystery herself — she raises relevant questions, drops hints, and urges the group to think it over more when they’re getting off track, but she never directly states what she thinks might have happened or who she thinks might have done it. i think it’s safe to assume that this is because her programming literally did not allow her to take a more active role in solving the mysteries; she’s not really a participant in the killing game, she’s not even a Real Person(™), just a moderator AI.

i didn’t get to complete all nanami’s FTEs before she died, unfortunately, and i’m going to complete everybody’s FTEs after i beat the game so i won’t get into it too much right now, but i do want to talk about her FTEs broadly because i think it’s important to my point here. if you do all nanami’s FTEs (and we did do most of them, so i think you get the general vibe) they play out like a dating sim route that meanders awkwardly before ultimately dead-ending. in fact, as revealed in her final FTE, nanami is bad at dating sims. i think this has to be a joke about the nature of her role in this game; nanami is essentially a dating sim route that can’t be completed. every other character in this game lives, and none of the time spent getting to know them was “wasted,” but this nanami never existed in the first place and hinata’s attempts at becoming closer with her were doomed from the outset. 

HOWEVER. and this is a big However hence my use of all caps. i think it’s overly reductive to say that this nanami is just a nonsapient computer program, and in fact that’s the opposite of what the game is implying. the question of whether an AI/robot can be considered a person / a friend comes up repeatedly in danganronpa (regarding alter ego in dr1, and regarding kiibo in ndrv3), and it’s never definitively answered but overall leans towards “yes.” the characters in dr1 view alter ego as their friend, which is used against them when junko “executes” alter ego by destroying the laptop, but alter ego still managed to save naegi in chapter 5 and did so acting of their own volition. we’ll get to kiibo later but he manages to act out against his programming in a way that suggests he’s his own person, even though he’s designed to act based on audience input twitch plays pokemon style. in nanami’s case, she figured out how to indirectly confess to being the traitor, thus defying her programming for the sake of saving everyone else. there’s actually another moment where she seems to be acting against her programming, too — it’s during her final FTE, and, again, i won’t get into it too much now since it’ll be the subject of another post, but the gist is that nanami attempts to have an actual date with hinata despite previous implications that she can’t date him thanks to her nature as an AI program. 

unless i’m extremely mistaken, we haven’t actually seen the last of nanami in this game; i’m nearly certain she shows back up in chapter 6 during the final trial. i’ll have more to say about her then, so i’ll wrap this post up. closing thoughts:

issues of identity and of past vs. present/future are a recurring theme in this game, most prominently so with the main trio. komaeda relies on his ideology regarding talent/hope to understand his place in the world, but has that ideology repeatedly challenged and learns he’s a former terrorist before anyone else here does. hinata can’t remember his (lack of a) talent and this makes him feel as though he doesn’t know who he is and can’t trust himself. nanami, by contrast, has very little identity and personality beyond her gaming talent and some references to a now-deceased programmer father… at least initially. but as the game progresses, as she becomes closer to the others (to hinata in particular) and as their situation becomes even more dire, she begins to push back against her programming in a way that suggests she might be developing a sense of personhood beyond her moderator role. unfortunately, the nature of her existence doomed her no matter what, as even if she hadn’t been executed she can’t exist outside of this VR program (something nanami herself is fully aware of).

This is a bit of a thank you for following me, and I wanna say some things about a few people. If you’re not on here, its likely I look up to you and I’m afraid to say anything about it >.< I apologize in advance. There are two sections, General and specific.

IN GENERAL:

 the people I’ve met on here are complete and utter sweethearts, and I’m sorry you have to deal with late night bullshit with me when its past 9pm without medication. But I’ve come so far imo, and its because of you guys, and some others who are no longer in the fandom. I’ve been in the DR RPC for almost 2 years now, and I’ve had friends come and go.

I’m always sad to see the ones from the past leave forever and thus leave my life, but I’m always so excited to seek out new people who I can have a good laugh with. , for the first time in the two years of DR rpc, actually 2 years of rping in general, I feel like I belong. And honestly... thank you all for including me. It may not seem like a big role on your part, but it means the world to me.

Furthermore, all though it may not seem like I like being on here, I actually do. I’m never on, and I apologize for that. Especially as of late, as I’m trying to get a job so I won’t become a NEET.  I’m in love with the threads I have going, and I look forward to the ones ahead!

what does cultural anthropology mean? well, it’s a broad field, but she specifically researches comparative mythology, and has published several papers in the academic realm on stuff such as ufo encounters between countries and other paranormal matters. she’s actually very respected and not a fringe presence, so if your oc is a nerd and into the study of mythology and the paranormal they might have heard of her

the more likely way though is through her webshow,it had surprisingly good production values for a show discussing paranormal occurrences and mythology - essentially what she currently does but in an online format. she’s also been able to travel to other countries in east asia through the help of her fanbase to conduct research there - however, the show did reach a sudden and abrupt conclusion a few years back as reiko disappeared off the map and resurfaced a few years later chilling in the academic world. some of her fans followed her into the academic sphere, but it was definitely less of an audience than prior.

It had really just started out as a hobby at the orphanage, learning and doing little tricks to keep younger kids from crying. But, it wasn’t long before I had crowds and put on shows in the lobby for staff during my elementary and middle school days. It was fun for me to do and plenty believed I was actually magical- Because I am! How else can I preform feats like this as a normal human! They have to believe it! It’s all part of the act!

I kept that act up all through middle school, too! I became known by the nerds and my tabletop group as a wizard and  everyone else as the freaky magician. I knew this was all I was good for and that as confirmed when someone scouting for Hope’s Peak Academy came to my middle school talent show. After I was tied up locked in that tank of water in front of the audience and got out completely dry, I saw them with a little clip board and my heart kinda… sunk.

“They were probably here for someone else,” I thought as I bowed and got off stage. There were other very talented people here like Yukio and Yumi Hojo, after all. They were masters of their craft. So imagine my surprise when I was approached by this man.

“You’re one of the girls from Towa City’s orphanage, correct?”

I remember giving a nod. I was never that verbal off-stage, which seemed to surprise the man as he continued.

“You were remarkable, just now. I’d keep an eye on your mail that comes to your home if I were you.” That was said with a subtle smile as he walked off to talk to some teachers and the owner of the school.

Did I just-?

That question was answered in August of that year: My caretaker had brought me in a very fancy-looking letter that caused all the other kids to stop and gather around me with wide eyes. We all wanted to know what this was? An adoption confirmation? Some kind of party I was hired for?

No, we all opened it and a lot of us gasped as I read the letter out loud. I had been chosen to attend Hope’s Peak as the Ultimate Magician! While a lot of the kids were surprised that I was called that, most of them were excited! It was so surreal! I was going to be an Ultimate! Something every kid aspired to be at my age! It was the best news I had ever, ever received!

Fast forward a few months later and I’m here now, an have been for a while. I’m in Class 79-C and I’ve managed to convince a good few that I’m actually magical! It’s amazing! I can put on shows and practice my acting and tricks all I want and honestly?

I feel like I’m finally where I belong.

SHSL FORGER (m) - Comes off as a very creepy guy cause he is a creepy guy. He’s earned his talent by replicating works of art/important documents/etc. An imporant thing to know is that he never claims them to be the real thing, he just creates them as he is commissioned. What they do with his artwork is of no concern to him, and he always leaves a little “signature” on his pieces that only a few people know about. Not at all what he seems. Is the mastermind of my fangan and has loads of secrets this is ur warning.

SHSL PAPARAZZI (f) - Exchange student from America, representing and basically what you’d expect. Shittalker and gossiping extraordinaire, very attractive, and sensational is probably even her middle name. Personal space and boundaries are not in her vocabulary (unless its about her own). She’s earned her title from getting a grand scoop of catching a famous celebrity doing a dastardly crime on her camera, and since she can’t do her job back home right now, she’s getting all she can in Japan with their idols and own celebrities. She even has a little following of her own back home... If you hate her jokes on you she survives lol.

SHSL BASKETBALL PLAYER Hyousuke (m) - HE’S LOUD AND PROUD AND GOOD WITH A CROWD AND PEOPLE IN GENERAL. Totally a daredevil, but he does have a temper on him that’s gotten him in trouble. Not the smartest but friendly and usually means well. Basically carried his middle school team hand has played unofficially with professionals. Has a fan club but doesn’t like talking about it. He’s dead you guys lol.

SHSL FIREFIGHTER (m) - Really fucking cool that’s what he is. He’s got a stern face but cares A LOT about people and keeping them safe. Takes a lot to fluster him. If Yako’s the mom, he’s the dad. He’s too young to be an actual firefighter but that’s his goal in life and he’s joined programs and such, and has even gone in and saved people in small fires (and yes he does have quite a few burn scars on him thank you very much). He likes hats. Is actually VERY good friends with basketball dude. hahahaha he straight up murders someone sorry not sorry

SHSL ARCHAEOLOGIST - My sweet boy???? Really thinks he’s straight and a super mega playboy. Well, he tries to be. He hides a lot under false bravado and toxic masculinity. Actually is afraid of intimacy and getting close to people, usually ends up ghosting people a lot (especially if they flirt back, or even worse, end up dating). Really just wants to nerd out and do what loves with his family, as his parents are also archaeologists (but they’re never home, and if not for HPA he wouldn’t be either). He’s also a survivor, but someone DOES try to kill him...

SHSL COMPOSER Yasutake Ayeka (f) - Practically a hikokomori. She’s an odd duck like the forger, but not exactly the same as it is a result from her sheltered lifestyle. Incredibly rich because of her music now, but is struggling with creating a new masterpiece. The most important thing to Nick is his dog, Milo. Nobody else really matters to him, since he doesn't really have a family... or a home.

Nick has been abandoned since he was 10 years old. He has no one except for his dog. He tends to want to keep that a secret from people, hiding it behind his sarcasm and ability to really trick people. He also used to have a speech impediment, but it only really comes out now when he's really upset.  

3.)    If something bad happened (i.e. their mum was killed), are they more likely to cry or get angry?  

They are most likely to try and keep their cool, but inwardly freak out. He could act so normal to you, jerkish even, but later on you can find him in his room having a semi panic attack.

He's a real nerd for anything comic related, but you'd never get him to admit that he loves Deadpool. He's WAY too cool for that.

He hates fish. Anything to do with fish. The smell alone makes him want to hurl.

Quite the opposite, people really aren't impressed with Nick's ability to prank or annoy people. Like, how is that even an ultimate? It confuses him sometimes. It feels so pointless.

Handsome, hilarious and talkative.

He's really proud of his natural talent when it involves medical things. If he actually had the money to do it, he could probably see himself becoming a doctor. He knows things about the anatomy/body like you wouldn't believe coming from a guy like this.

The reason he became so good at his ultimate, or why it defines him now, is because as a kid the only way to eat and get anything he wanted was to trick people and play pranks on them. He once conned a guy out of $400 dollars just by pretending to be this famous magician and swapped the stuff the guy had on himself around so much, it distracted him as he slipped it into his sleeve. He's very good at slight of hands.

He has a speech impediment when he's really angry or upset/scared and he has a tendacy to have panic attacks when under too much stress. But he tends to hide those from people until he's alone. He also has really bad night terrors.

You stop your conversation with Hoshi mid-sentence and point to the meal, holding in what is probably the biggest laugh of your entire life

In all the flights you and Hoshi had ever been on, this was certainly a first

Hoshi stares at the meal for a moment with his huge eyes

He's speechless, and so are you

He grabs the juice and gives it to you, and saves the apple for himself

"That didn't just happen…"

You nod, taking a sip of the juice

The attendant hurries back with a colouring in sheet and a blue marker, and disappears once more

The pen becomes useless, because the sheet is now covered in the orange juice you just spat out from laughing so hard

You don’t let it go for the rest of the flight

Anyway, lordy jesus, its been nearly two years since this blog has been up??? Time flies. I can remember when I first decided to dive headfirst into the Indie scene with this blog and with Riku as a character in general. NGL I was legit a nervous wreck, because I’ve always just been apart of fandoms specifically and I didn’t???? Know what to do lol. But slowly, I branched out. Gained lots of amazing friends, lost some, saw some amazing characters that still hold themselves near and dear to my heart. I as well as Ri have experienced many things, many feelings, and none of which is regretted.

sprigs = Patrick Sprigs aka Gemini Spark White from Megaman Starforce, mostly canon-compliant but a lot of my memories are from years after the game– i left the echo ridge area to get therapy after the sheer fuckery that was SF1 and me attempting to destroy the world and returned around the time of SF3. i ALSO REALLY HATE ARTHUR “ACE” EOS OR WHATEVER HIS NAME IS I JUST REALLY DONT LIKE HIM :V

sprigs: i have a specific memory involving neapolitan ice cream sandwich bars that was actually very positive so, that i guess :V

yuta: i visited hope’s peak once and it was awesome, everyone was Super Cool and sonia nevermind gave me a spheal named Balbatross

sprigs: i mean obv theres the dream island park, but i also liked wandering around … OH WOW DID I REALLY FORGET THE NAME? [googles] AMAKEN!!! i liked visiting AMAKEN with geo cause he was a Space Nerd and i was also a lowkey space nerd (not as much as i am now lmfao)

yuta: water? KIND OF IRONIC BUT (my near-death experience / canon death involves trying to swim out of the city of Fuck and exploding bc of the bracelet)

sprigs: IVE ONLY MET ONE OTHER SFKIN i havent talked to them in ages despite being in a discord server with them? theyre like the sweetest geo ever (and i hope i didnt creep them out by my constant whining when i had a sideblog for this ID lmao)

6. things in every day life that remind you of your canon?

yuta: hmmmm not a lot? like specific songs do i guess :0 and sometimes im like I WANT 2 JOG but i dont have the stamina but if im in a strong yuta shift ill be vibrating 24/7 bc i was so physically active in that life

sprigs: ngl sometimes system stuff does? cause. i was a system. a very shitty system but. :V sometimes bickering w/ mae or ink reminds me of talking to rey and i go “aw” for a bit.

yuta: SUN,,,, lies facedown on the ground and just. photosynthesizes. (towa city was always clouded over and Sinister, i hated it, legit all my memories of towa are just “dark and sad”)

yuta: I WANT YUTA TO RUN!!! i think i decided that if i went to hope’s peak i would’ve been SHSL Track Star or something like that. i could also swim which is something i cant do at front :V (edit from after question 12: ALSO CAN WE APPRECIATE THE SELF-GIVEN TITLE OF “SHSL NONFATAL EXPLOSION”)

yuta: i mean, not exploding would’ve been nice? asides from that, i wish i’d stayed with komaru more. she had no idea i was alive for a pretty long time and that must’ve sucked. heck.

sprigs: I MEAN , NOT TRY TO DESTROY THE WORLD , also fucking, tell geo what the hell was wrong with me , but it was kind of a hard position to be in? bc rey was literally a trauma split from horrific childhood abuse (moreso than was revealed canonically, for me) and i was just a middleschooler. also staying in contact with geo while overseas (the bonus boss in sf2 isnt canon for me) because from his perspective i just dropped off the map bc i was too ashamed to talk to him. ALSO HEY @ SELF DONT FUCKING DESTROY GEO’S TRUST IN EVERYONE, MAYBE,

yuta: i love my hoodie!! but it got Fucking Wrecked for obvious reasons augh. theres art of Nonfatal Explosion Yuta w/ a NGE shirt that i vaguely remember owning haha

yuta: visiting hope’s peak is the most vivid bc i got to meet all my friends? heck? and i vaguely remember reuniting with komaru and it was great. there were hugs.
