my thing w tgcf so far is i dont reeaaally like hua cheng that much yet? which is a shame cuz hes like the love interest so hes gonna be important. and maybe its cuz im just 3 books in and its long but idk i havent spent much time with him! i dont know anything abt this man besides hes in love w xie lian and is kind of a little shit thats basically all i got on him. i think his problem is that hes surrounded by lots of other v colorful characters and interesting worldbuilding so that stuff catches my interest more than he does ? maybe he'll grow on me but thats where im at rn

Beat Mesa and Cardinal Movement are such sickass names. and the designs are dope as hell. every time Beat Mesa appears in the first acts of the comic i have to pause reading and just look at that scratch construct all giddy and in awe. just such a fun and fascinating concept

Alma bit the inside of her cheek, such a bright red blush against fair skin like his was definitely obvious to her, and she couldn't help but feel some sort of smugness that she got that kind of reaction from him. It wasn't even her intention, she was just blurting out her thoughts! But, it was so fun to see him all flustered like this. He seemed happy, and that's all she ever wanted from him...

"Oh, don't worry about Barbara seeing anything. I know the clothes-changing enchantment, we use it in the theatre all the time!" As she finally pulled the tape measure off of him, taking his hand in her's as her ribbon tied itself around their wrists, connecting them and glowing that brilliant pink. "That means I'll make your clothes magic, so they can change back to normal whenever you want. Now, close your eyes, and soon you'll look just like a superhero!"

She rubbed his hand between her's, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath as she concentrated. He could physically feel the fabric shifting and growing over his body, and the light subtle weight of gold accessories beginning to adorn his forearms, shins, and chest. By the time it was over, Alma giggled in a gleeful and high pitched tone, letting go of his hand and clapping in utter joy. "Oh, you look like a prince! Look!" She cast a spell on the wall next to him to reflect light like a mirror, letting him have a good look at the supersuit Alma designed for him. "Do you like it? How about the cape? I attached it to the wrists, so when you fly you'll have wings like an eagle!"

Alma raised an eyebrow, it seemed to her that Barbara couldn't even bother to say nice things to John, let alone do anything nice for him. "Who cares what Barbara thinks? She's stupid and crazy! And you're beautiful!" Alma put on a big grin, scooping up a ruler from the pile of things she'd previously dumped out of her backpack, and working some magic to extend it and change it to be more flexible, creating a makeshift tapemeasure and starting with wrapping it around John's waist.

"Besides, what kind of stupid rule is waiting till you're grown to try on new clothes? I think she's just being cheap, the least she could do is buy you a new shirt." She busied herself taking measurements across his body with the tape measure and making note of them in her head. "In any case, I'm gonna make you an outfit just like Superman's!"

I have one (1) major issue with the sonic franchise that keeps me from fully enjoying the games and it is this: the girl characters wear the coolest outfits ever and most of the boy characters run around nearly buckass nude. Just sneakers and gloves. I'm not mad theyre naked (although if the boys r allowed to be naked why aren't the girls? Sexism perhaps), I'm mad they don't have sickass outfits. I just know Shadow would walk around wearing the edgiest shit ever. We've been robbed of seeing that and just from a character design standpoint it pisses me off. Blaze and Surge are in outfits that match their characterization so well and yet they won't even put Tails in cargo shorts like he deserves 😞

Sjust how it is unforch. Girls get cool, stylish outfits that tell you a ton about their character. Guys get shoes and like one or two small accessories maybe. It all definitely stems from classic Amy as a matter of "well we can't have a girl running around naked" and it just stuck I guess

Watching My Hero Academia for the first time: S1, Ep. 6-8

Hello again! I'm enjoying this show in all of its tropey goodness so far, and I hope to continue doing so! As ever, I make lists of the stuff I enjoyed and the stuff I either didn't get or didn't like, and then I sum it up to keep track of my own thoughts as I go through a show like this! Please don't spoil (I've got this tag blocked and I don't know much about this show going in at all) but DO interact if you see fit!

Katsuki is the most lil homie gayass of this show so far I love his tacky little mask and his silly hair. I am cutting him slack for being like. 14 years old at time of his worst statements to Izuku and assuming that's what the writers are hoping. But also he's A Bit Much, eh?

Katsuki does not handle being humbled well. LOL. You go Izuku. I do think he's just a great character when it comes to the strength of characterization and motivation.

Baby Izuku and Kazuki oh my GOD they're so precious. Guys. Stop. I don't want to be a teacher and especially not to kids that age but the little part of me that teaches and also did outreach programs for kids is like. READY to protect at all costs.

Class President-ass kid is named Iida. I enjoy him losing it.

POOR BABY IZUKU I WANT TO GIVE HIM A HUG AND CALL KATSUKI'S MOM ABOUT HER SON'S BEHAVIOR

But also very much the show gives you exactly the way the structure AROUND Katsuki did him a disservice by fostering his attitude and belief that his power makes him better than everyone. And he's going to have to learn to get over that! And if they're smart his behavior WILL begin to have real consequences for him

ALSO oh how GREAT this moment with the stream is. The way baby Katsuki internalizes needing help as weakness, the way he feels like Izuku's offer of help is perceiving him as weak. GREAT. And for Izuku like... that's just who he is.

AND THERE'S A KID WHOSE QUIRK IS JUST SCOTCH TAPE FROM THE ELBOWS IM CACKLING. I do really love all the ideas they came up with and the designs (EXCEPT FOR HOW THEY OBJECTIFY ALL THESE GIRLS MEN ARE PIGS)

I said the character designs were cute and they are for the most part. That said. Oh my fucking god I do not like how sexualized these girls who are like. Literal fucking BABIES at 15 years old are. I don't care that it's "oh it's superheroes" trope city. I hate it. I really hate it. I just. I cannot express how much I hate it.

Like. Why is Ponytail Girl just. Naked. I hate this. I really fucking hate it! I really really do! It's Not Good Chief!

I'm not going to lie my tolerance for this sort of thing is really fairly. Low. And if it really does continue like this idk if watching is going to go super well for me. There's just something about the portrayal of young girls in fiction that really. It sets me tf off when it sucks.

I am willing to go with them on how far they're pushing it with Katsuki. Pushing it far makes redemption harder, he's a teenager and that's all great for the structure. We see a lot of him being very much a product of his environment. But it is something of an issue when there's a lack of consequence. It takes a LOT of consequences for things to sink in in a good story– look at, for instance, Avatar the Last Airbender (since this show has its very own Malta Zuko) and just how many things have to happen to Zuko from THE VERY OUTSET of the show for it to really sink in. They're not immediately committed to showing that just yet, and I'm wondering why not!
